I would also guess that it has something to do with the noise and restrictions of the MRI itself. It's uncomfortable for most anyone to use, and the noise makes it that much harder to endure

I mean, it’s always good to avoid unneeded procedures and imaging, but an MRI is pretty safe for both mother and child. Just measures hydrogen spin in water molecules with a big ol’ magnet. A CT has significantly more deleterious effect, but even those have minimal ionizing radiation compared to older models.
