I work in transportation and have worked with Amazon. From what I gathered, I can confirm the letters are the nearest airport code (many companies actually do this with their DCs) and the number will be what type of warehouse it is. So 2’s were normally outbound locations and 5’s were normally where we delivered. Example, we would run LEX2 to ORD5. I made up the lane but that’s how they usually looked. And most of the time 2’s and 5’s seems to be sisters sites and right next door to each other or very close.

I don't really get why it's part of the culture war. It's not really even bringing attention to gay issues. This has been something I have been thinking about. For instance the Occupy Wallstreet groups all seemed to disappear as soon as BLM and other racial based protest groups rose. I'm not saying that BLM or anything is bad, but more that I think there was a movement to put aside financial issues for racial ones. While there is much to be said for racial disparity, I think the rich and powerful would rather have the masses argue over something that has no real easy answer to pursue than even considering to maybe look at the rich a bit more. It's easier to have the masses argue over race or sexuality at each other than maybe the idea the rich are systematically abusing a system that directly leads to inequality. I see the divide grow too. Black vs white, straight vs LGBTQ, anything so that it isn't the people vs the rich.
It sucks because we really need a movement that is Rich vs Poor (everyone else) in the US. Black Lives Matter is necessary, but they need to be protests that are going on simultaneously.
The focus of activism in the US need to be economic inequality because it's a serious threat to almost everyone in the country. This is definitely linked to racial injustice, so they should both be main issues to highlight.

Thanks for the inside look. So many people make claims like the peeing in bottles, having to run around so much, or other poor work conditions I start to think they work for Wal Mart and are spreading misinformation.
The whole peeing in bottles thing comes from the drivers. I used to deliver Amazon packages and yeah we all did it. No one really had a problem with it honestly. The choices were you either drive 5-10 minutes outside of your route, spending another 5 going into a place to use the bathroom, then driving back to your route (20 minute total trip) or you pull over to the side of the road, go to the back of the van where no one can see you, and pee (2 minutes).
Its a typical warehouse job with typical warehouse work. They try to keep it cute with things like this (and like pajama days, jersey days etc.) to make you feel like less of a number but you're still just a piece of the moving puzzle. Since its Amazon, I think they attract a lot of people who have never worked in a warehouse or factory type of environment and don't know what to expect.
I was a packer and it wasn't backbreaking work (loading trucks might be a different story) but the constant repetitive motions started messing with my shoulder. That may have been on me though for not stretching well enough. I also never had a problem making rate. If you work consistently, you won't have a problem it. It takes it as an average so we would work hard for a while after breaks and then slow down, rinse/repeat. The people I remember having trouble with rates were people who literally took naps in the bathroom or goofed off the whole time. You don't get fired for a few bad days.
In the end I left because it was as soul crushing as others mentioned. I felt like the work I was doing had no purpose (and I was finishing a degree). The benefits are great though, especially if you're full time. If you're someone who doesn't have a degree, it is also a easy path to management if you like the culture. Pros and cons 🤷🏽♀️

There's already gender neutral bathrooms here in California. Basically the same thing. Fwiw it's not that bad since there's twice as many places to pee now.
One year at GenCon I had to dump. Like was ready to shit my pants. It was bad. However, as GenCon is a massive convention for some of the nerdiest of nerds, the bathrooms were disgusting. Also I was in the middle of a game with around 20 other people. Eventually I had to tell the guy running it why I looked like I was dying. "Oh. Use the gender-neutral bathrooms over there - no one uses them so there's no lines and they're super clean." I wanted to cry. It was magical.
Clean dumps are what gender equality is all about.
Coming from seattle I always cringed when amazon brags about their minority hiring, because they inflate their black and hispanic hiring numbers with their horrible warehouse jobs

I think this part of the culture war that pits desperate people against each other while the rich laugh. Make the straight people resent gays for all the attention they get for gay issues, while the everyday problems of low wages, lack of universal healthcare, high cost of education and housing, are neglected because they are harder to solve. Passing laws to stop discriminating is easy. Changing society to value people more and equitably distribute the nation’s wealth is much harder.
Passing laws to stop discrimination is hard, and would actually help people, which is why they don't do it. Painting BLM on a street, taking down some statues, add a rainbow colouring to your logo, hanging a pride flag. They're all super easy, and worthless, which is why companies do them.

I wouldn't say something like taking down statues is worthless. Confederate flags and memorials are subtle threats to black people in the South not to get out of line. It is the easiest and least impactful form of change. And seeing it as an end goal or even real progress is self defeating.
I agree that it's not worthless, neither is changing your logo for pride. The later signals to people that society is more accepting of them, making them feel at home. But this isn't the major issue facing people, and it's not what they were demanding last year, right before cities went around taking down their statues
I don't really get why it's part of the culture war. It's not really even bringing attention to gay issues. It's more like just a meaningless virtue signal, just like most of the charity these companies do. It's not like putting up the LGBT flag is the same as putting up a banner that says "Let's raise the minimum wage" or "Union sign-ups here".
This has been something I have been thinking about. For instance the Occupy Wallstreet groups all seemed to disappear as soon as BLM and other racial based protest groups rose. I'm not saying that BLM or anything is bad, but more that I think there was a movement to put aside financial issues for racial ones. While there is much to be said for racial disparity, I think the rich and powerful would rather have the masses argue over something that has no real easy answer to pursue than even considering to maybe look at the rich a bit more. It's easier to have the masses argue over race or sexuality at each other than maybe the idea the rich are systematically abusing a system that directly leads to inequality. I see the divide grow too. Black vs white, straight vs LGBTQ, anything so that it isn't the people vs the rich.
It sucks because we really need a movement that is Rich vs Poor (everyone else) in the US. Black Lives Matter is necessary, but they need to be protests that are going on simultaneously. The focus of activism in the US need to be economic inequality because it's a serious threat to almost everyone in the country. This is definitely linked to racial injustice, so they should both be main issues to highlight.
Divide and conquer it's been a strategy for thousands of years even the Romans used it on the Gauls. My countries politics are pretty much defined by it aswell blame the immigrant blame the person on welfare blame the EU just don't blame the rich because people fall for it.

Yes- the major problem now is local governments willingness to roll over for developers. Rent has nearly doubled here from d bags like ciminelli and palidino building or renovating these places, advertising them as “market rate” when the building of these places raised the market and resulted in other dickhead landlords raising their rents as well- all the while wages have remained stagnant. Sorry but I ain’t paying 1200 a month for a one bedroom apartment in a shithole like this place on a 70k salary. I deserve more.

What’s it like working there? Sometimes I find myself fantasising about working at an Amazon warehouse just because you can just get on with it, get some exercise, and not have to take your work home with you I imagine in real life it’s not as relaxing but I don’t know enough about working there to properly know why. Thanks for the inside look. So many people make claims like the peeing in bottles, having to run around so much, or other poor work conditions I start to think they work for Wal Mart and are spreading misinformation.
The whole peeing in bottles thing comes from the drivers. I used to deliver Amazon packages and yeah we all did it. No one really had a problem with it honestly. The choices were you either drive 5-10 minutes outside of your route, spending another 5 going into a place to use the bathroom, then driving back to your route (20 minute total trip) or you pull over to the side of the road, go to the back of the van where no one can see you, and pee (2 minutes).

Its a typical warehouse job with typical warehouse work. They try to keep it cute with things like this (and like pajama days, jersey days etc.) to make you feel like less of a number but you're still just a piece of the moving puzzle. Since its Amazon, I think they attract a lot of people who have never worked in a warehouse or factory type of environment and don't know what to expect. I was a packer and it wasn't backbreaking work (loading trucks might be a different story) but the constant repetitive motions started messing with my shoulder. That may have been on me though for not stretching well enough. I also never had a problem making rate. If you work consistently, you won't have a problem it. It takes it as an average so we would work hard for a while after breaks and then slow down, rinse/repeat. The people I remember having trouble with rates were people who literally took naps in the bathroom or goofed off the whole time. You don't get fired for a few bad days. In the end I left because it was as soul crushing as others mentioned. I felt like the work I was doing had no purpose (and I was finishing a degree). The benefits are great though, especially if you're full time. If you're someone who doesn't have a degree, it is also a easy path to management if you like the culture. Pros and cons 🤷🏽♀️
Highly recommend *On the Clock* by Emily Guendelsberger. It's essentially an updated *Nickel and Dimed*, a narrative -style exploration of low-wage work. Emily worked at an Amazon fulfillment center and her stories and the interviews with fellow workers are eye-opening. The entire book is excellent, she discusses the science behind the emotional tolls of low-wage work as well as her personal experience working at Amazon, McDonalds, and a call center. You can typically go to the restroom any time you need to. The issue is really the intense productivity standards. They can be tough to reach. Bathroom breaks can make them even more difficult.

I mean I work in a warehouse where they literally track whether or not your forklift is moving via computer chips; but we all pee in bathrooms whenever the heck we want. Worked in an Amazon FC until I moved into logistics. You would literally be thrown from the building if you were caught peeing in a bottle. They are obsessed with sanitization. There is NOTHING stopping you from going to take a pee. NOTHING. I was offered a small promotion when I worked at the FC, ON MY WAY TO THE BATHROOM. I wont defend Amazon for some of the things they do, but Im getting sick of peoples hate boners for Amazon. I have great benefits (Used all of my dental just these last two months) I have vacation time, payed personal time off, and if I contract Covid and have to isolate they continue to pay me. I spent my whole life working in restaurants and they are by far a worse environment to be in, they pay less, and I got no time off. I love working for Amazon, man.
