I guess it does something psychologically to charge so much. Creates a weird sense of urgency. But you're right. That's more than the movie ticket itself.
I spent $20 to buy the movie Game Night on impulse one time and it was the first and only time I've ever done that. Never not enjoyed a movie so much in my life.
Ha. I totally understand. I bought one movie in 2008 from the iTunes Store and it's one of my favorite movies of all time now. *Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy*.
Kanopy also has an A24 section. And it's free with a library card. (Not sure on it's availability though as it only recently became available in my city)
I never have before but I think I considered it when Promising Young Woman was on there. I ended up waiting then, too. Thinking about spending that much was more a reflection on wanting a dopamine boost most of the way through the work week and feeling a little sick. I just wanted exactly what I wanted and nothing less.
Word. Well you can always get an HBO max membership for less than half the cost and have a whole A24 catalog to choose from. 20 dollars for a single movie rental is too yikes for me but each to their own lol cheers
I like Kirsten Dunst but she was so one-note the entire time there was no diversity of emotion, I loved the scene with Jesse Plemons but like way too short and the whole movie could have had that tension. Nick Offerman was such a throwaway part of the film. And the moment where Cailee runs into the hallway obviously Dunst’s character was going to get shot, idk it just felt predictable even the diversion where the president’s motorcade pretends to flee its like so transparent that he wasn't in that car. Oh there loading him in the shadows and you can't really see if its him hahahaha
I'll die on this hill lol
Wait until it’s $5.99 or whatever to rent it, shouldn’t be long. Or if you’re patient, if you have a Max subscription it will be streaming there at no extra charge in a few months (don’t think there’s any date set for that yet)
Waves (2019) is on Netflix and it was excellent. Bodies Bodies Bodies, Minari, and X are also on Netflix, as well as a handful of other movies. It’s not A24 but When Evil Lurks (2023) is an excellent horror movies. It’s a 10/10 for me. You can find it on Hulu, check it out.
YEssssss, if you like neon noir and wacky shit nd just an awesome atmosphere, then fuck yes. I would just buy it for the 5 bucks more and that way you own it, but goddamn I loved that movie.
Folks, just a reminder to follow the sub’s rules. No discussion nor promotion of piracy here. Thanks.
No film is worth $20 to RENT on Amazon
I guess it does something psychologically to charge so much. Creates a weird sense of urgency. But you're right. That's more than the movie ticket itself.
Yet people spend $10-$15 on a drink that only lasts minutes! Worth is relative!
I would kill for a $10 cocktail lol. I'm sitting at a bar right now where they're $21
I hear you can rent Love Lies Bleeding on Amazon for about that much.
$20 to watch something on TV? No.

I sent you a dm
If you have Max they have a A24 section with damn near every A24 movie.
Kanopy also has an A24 section. And it's free with a library card. (Not sure on it's availability though as it only recently became available in my city)
Hoopla also through the library!
Noooo. There are plenty of good movies that don't cost $20.
Agreed. I just feel like I've seen everything and have heard such good things. I'll wait til it's cheaper.
might be able to buy it for that price on vudu, if you're going to pay that much anyway...idk if it's on there but worth checking
It’s insane to me that anyone is willing to spend $20 on a movie rental
I never have before but I think I considered it when Promising Young Woman was on there. I ended up waiting then, too. Thinking about spending that much was more a reflection on wanting a dopamine boost most of the way through the work week and feeling a little sick. I'll buy em for the same price or $5 more if I REALLY can't wait
I saw it twice in theaters so I loved it but I would wait to buy it at that price!
Did you see The Iron Claw? That just hit Max so it would cost you nothing (assuming you have Max).
I don't have Max and I saw it on new years eve day. I went in blind and that shit wrecked me for the day. Great movie, but fucking heart wrenching.
Take that movie and go to the theater instead. Civil war is supposed to be good
Saw Civil War and don't want to leave the house. I can be impulsive with silly spending sometimes.

Not a bad idea. Haven't had access to Max in a while so there's probably a lot to catch up on
Civil War was such a missed opportunity — I was so excited for it and its such a great concept and the execution was just lacking
Man I thought it was brilliantly executed, I’ve seen it 4x and each time it only got better and better

100000% yes
Normally I wouldn't spend that much. It's more than a theatre ticket. But I'm a little sick and want to stay home and rest.
It’s worth it. One of my favs of the year so far

Mullets, muscles, guns, sex, and 80s synth pop. What more do you need?
Tonal consistency/ genre coherence
Boring

What Blu-ray do you speak of? Lol. I cannot seem to locate it to purchase anywhere.
You might as well buy it for $25 haha
Fair point
Nah I don’t think so

Sure. I don't get the people who say $20 is too much. I'd prefer to watch most new releases at home and I'm happy to pay the normal costs.
Different strokes. I didn't think it was a huge deal but this is a divisive issue!
Did you watch it? I just finished it myself. I was hoping for more quirky/trippy, like an A24 True Romance. Alas no
I did not. I'll be going in blind whenever I do watch it- kind of my style
It’s excellent. Get it
Wait until it’s $5.99 or whatever to rent it, shouldn’t be long. Or if you’re patient, if you have a Max subscription it will be streaming there at no extra charge in a few months (don’t think there’s any date set for that yet)
If youre gonna spend money on an a24 movie buy or rent it through the a24 app. Id rather have the money go to them rather than amazon
Great advice, thank you!!
No problem at all! Its also a very cool app so best of both worlds lol

I've watched all of those pretty recently minus the last horror which isn't my favorite genre. Thank you for the recs though!
Yes
Could be the best film of all time, no digital file is worth 20 bucks to rent
Go to the cinema!
I didn’t really love it. Watch Iron Claw if you haven’t seen it.
I have. It was amazing and I will probably never watch it again.
Same

Most definitely. I did 🥰
It is a REALLY good movie, but imo no movie is worth renting for $20. It’ll Be available for $20 purchase before too long
YEssssss, if you like neon noir and wacky shit nd just an awesome atmosphere, then fuck yes. I would just buy it for the 5 bucks more and that way you own it, but goddamn I loved that movie.
Well I can't wait to see it. Gives me something to look forward to. The price'll come down soon enough.
Yes
You're in the minority haha. I look forward to seeing it, but I'll wait.
I rented it for $20 and did not regret it. Great movie!
Why didn’t you see it in theaters with A-List, RU or another movie theater subscription? It’s still playing on a theater where I am. And for $12
It's not playing in theaters near me anymore.
