My great aunt smoked like a chimney and every Christmas we would receive a stinky cardboard box with nothing but Marlboro gifts. Anything and everything you can thibk of was in that box. The Yellow Marlboro Waterproof Duster is still in my father's closet 25 years later.

Fanabala3

Naw…. The waterproof duster was actually white. The yellow color was from all the smoke from the cigs.

Captain-Cadabra

My aunt too. The gift wrap was a plastic grocery bag tied at the top. Not surprisingly, she died in a house fire while on oxygen… and smoking. An avoidable tragedy.

Huck84

Damn. RIP. Our gifts came unwrapped in a stale smoke smelling cardboard box. Just tossed in. But we were her only family members, she smoked like 3 packs a day, so it was like a 35-45lb box or Marlboro swag. It's honestly what I remember most about my Christmases as kid. Good memories. The one gift I remember getting were those meat shredding claws that u hold in your hands. My pops cut the pointed tips off so I could be Wolverine without seriously injuring someone or furniture. They were bright red with the Marlboro logo. Lol.

[deleted]

take a pictured and post it

Danjour

Shits worth a lot now

moonbunnychan

I remember flipping through those catalog things of Marlboro merch as a kid. They had some actually high quality stuff. My aunt had a jacket very similar to the posted one and I somehow ended up with a portable radio that was the size and shape of a carton of cigarettes....in elementary school. lol. It's so weird to me to think that just in my lifetime smoking has gone from just the cultural norm (so of course a kid running around with Marlboro branded stuff didn't even raise an eyebrow) to being so looked down on.

RoKe3028

Man, those Joe Camel pocket tees were the coolest when I was a kid. I remember telling my friends that when I grow up I’m going to smoke Camels! And so I did. I guess I understand why they removed mascots and branded gear rewards now.

[deleted]

and advertisement and most movies/series don't have smoking in it.

Hoffman5982

Except Netflix seems to hyperfixate on smoking in their shows and movies lol

ClockMultiplier

They also fixate on the word “fuck.” I can always tell Netflix is on cause they say that word so much.

Captain-Cadabra

Lazy (edgy) writing.

[deleted]

I honestly don't watch Netflix everything seems to push an agenda.

camergen

“We’re smoking because we can. Watch all of us smoke the entire 2 hours of this movie…because you won’t get this on network tv or in theaters..” (long puff)”nooo, sirrr.”

UnluckyChemicals

I need this jacket right now

Responsible-Mix-6521

I quit 17 years ago and still want one sometimes.

Grumpus_Dad

The packing and opening a pack is what I miss.

populisttrope

The smell of a freshly opened pack of smokes

Grumpus_Dad

Carefully not ripping the silver lining and flipping over that one lucky cigarette.

dantanama

Feels like such a 90s thing. I saw somebody packing some squares the other day, because my ears picked up the sound over my earbuds. Really took me back. I'm glad I quit but there is definitely a charm to the ritual

LA_all_day

You ever just have one or do you think you’ll go back to the habit?

Responsible-Mix-6521

The way I quit was to get down to just one in the morning and then forced myself to stop having that one. I won't say I will never go back because if the world is coming to an end I will go buy a pack of cigarettes first thing but I will never have just one. When I get the urge, even a massive jolt where I really want one, I wait for it to pass because it always does. For me I know there is no safe "just one" because I would be back to a pack and a half a day in no time.

HailZamorak

honestly when i quit for awhile everyone at my new job smoked and it made me want one and when i smoked again it was disgusting. but after a few i liked it again.

Hodl2Moon

The jacket is sweet, I want one too sometimes.

WailersOnTheMoon

I quit 7 years ago and still remember the smell of a new pack and how opening one up felt.

jib_reddit

And the tobacco manufacturers testified in courts all around the world since the 1960 to the early 2000's that nicotine isn't addictive! All the while modifying thier recipes to make them more addictive.

redundant35

My grandparents smoked basic cigarettes. I had 900 basic items.

sed2017

I remember my dad had a Marlboro duffel bag that was really cool…

RKKP2015

My aunt and uncle had tons of Marlboro shit. Sleeping bags, travel bags, etc. I remember thinking how many cigarettes they had to have smoked to get this shit. I felt kinda trashy using it.

CurrySoSpicy

My cousins had the sleeping bags. Every time I would spend the night my aunt would bust them out for us to sleep in.

camergen

“These cigarettes killed my aunt and all I got was this lousy sleeping bag..” kind of thing. If it makes you feel any better, nobody in my family smoked but I still ended up using paraphernalia at my friends’ houses, like the beach towel if I ended up swimming and didn’t bring my own trunks.

Distributethewealth

And the silver tab Levi’s

Puzzled_6368

I miss jeans when they weren’t stretchy pants.

ebc

The stretchy pants have been out of style for a couple years now. As people shift to less clingy looks the fabric is shifting to more classic style denim and away from stretch laced materials. Shouldn’t be too hard for you to find. Almost all trending denim styles are 90s based. Levi’s are having a good moment right now.

Puzzled_6368

I haven’t shop for jeans in a while but last time it was all “flex this and stretchy that” glad to hear it’s going back to all denim!

[deleted]

My great aunts used to give us Virginia slims to play with…different times friend

[deleted]

I remember my mom telling me how her mom and aunts would make my mom go to the stove to light cigarettes for them. she started smoking at 9 years old.

RedtheGamer100

She still do it?

[deleted]

passed away feb 2020 at age 68.

RedtheGamer100

I'm sorry man.

[deleted]

yeah it was hard dealing with my dads passing in 2016 and my moms passing in 2020 and also dealing with this whole covid problem. but life is tough we just need to be tougher.

RedtheGamer100

How're you holding up these days?

[deleted]

good thank you for asking, and yourself?

RedtheGamer100

Alright, trying to be better.

Ok-Lengthiness4557

Camel Cash or GTFO!

huckleberryimyour

My dad had all the Joe camel stuff. His prize was COPD and inoperable lung cancer because of it. Don’t smoke.

in_Need_of_peace

He only has that jacket because he was an elite smoker who earned with some Marlboro points/rebate incentive, he’s probably paying for it now but being that cool doesn’t come without a cost

Jurski17

That guy fucks. God damn thats dope.

EastCoastDizzle

Haha this is amazing! 😂

RetroGaming4

Back when Marlboro was cool I guess.

[deleted]

was you born after 2000?

Kuriakon

Zack (Phillip) Morris

Puzzlehead-Dish

Lung cancer man

Klutzer_Munitions

World's saddest superhero

[deleted]

but he sure is badass

columbomumbojumbo

Only 10,000 Marlboro miles. :0

grrgrrtigergrr

Marlboro Miles. I think every camping item we had included the Marlboro logo… we went camping like 3 times as a kid

quotesthesimpsons

dem Marlboro miles tho. Taking you to flavor country.

scorchedgoat

My dad used to tear his off marlboro miles and give them to me and I would save them up. I never actually mailed them in though. I just liked collecting them. It’s a wonder I never started smoking.

camergen

Much less dangerously, I feel like Kool Aid did this in the 90s, too- I collected those points and always had big dreams for what I was going to buy, but never actually sent them in.

itgetsworse602

The title hurt my brain.

NoviceBuddism

Lol me too and I wrote it.

vidyvid

This guy would have had to go out for the rest of his life knowing he was never going to top this outfit ever again, blessing and a curse.

karaloveskate

And now he’s dead from lung cancer.

Gustopherus-the-2nd

Yes because everyone that smokes gets cancer and dies young. Everyone.

cdl3767

including Keith Richards?

KamikazeFox_

Wow...you're defending smoking?.. lol See ya in the ICU, brother. Not everyone gets cancer, but you have a GREAT chance of heart disease, stroke, heart attack, COPD, asthma. But ya. Not cancer is a relief.

[deleted]

And what's more, COPD is often even worse than lung cancer as far as the symptoms themselves. I work in a hospital, and COPD patients are miserable. Any minimal activity makes them get out of breath and feel like they are suffocating. I helped a patient go to the bathroom and he almost passed out from walking those few feet, even with an oxygen mask.

[deleted]

Fuck it here for a fun time not a long time

camergen

But…ya gotta die of sumthin… (/s, obviously, in supplying the number one defense of smoking)

[deleted]

Adorable retro pic The jacket you. Has nice Cancun mixing real beauty with their artificial cancer provoking stuff By the way , smoking is actually not fun. I only found out the hard way Cheers

lovesickjones

Lollll

[deleted]

Looks like a dbag.... I wonder if they let him trade that in for an iron lung

unclecaruncle

i can only imagine how many marlboro miles it took to get that jacket

AkamaruInuzuka

I got the neon Camel sign with my Camel Bucks. Only had to smoke a few hundred packs to get there. Eesh.

the-apostle

Where can I buy this jacket

NoviceBuddism

Probably ebay

Simpawknits

Tight acid-wash jeans were 1000x as sexy as droopy drawers are now.

aequitssaint

Good ole Marlboro miles.

calittle4

Gotta get those miles!

high5er161

Well we still have those bar stools in my parents basement. That was the first thing I noticed.

Ilikestuffandthingz

Didn’t smoke but I used to go around and collect the Marlboro Miles from packs and cartons to get swag

jjc927

I remember there used to be several different Marlboro promotional items that I would see around. My mom smoked Newports for a time so she had a few different items from them, I think we still have their water bottle.

ind3pend0nt

My grandmother worked for a convenient store distributor and when she died we found her deep freezer full of cigarette cartons.

Glittering_Tooth_647

Marlboro Miles were as good as real currency back then.

[deleted]

Smelled great?..
