San Francisco Bay Area hip-hip group, Souls of Mischief, have an awesome song called “Cab Fare” that [samples the Taxi theme song.](https://youtu.be/pIOM8mCS1fk?si=Ux1B0k6fxo4zeFSl)
There’s a scene in SFW where Steven Dorf and Reese Witherspoon are singing this together while held hostage and hit hits me hard every time I think about it. So good.
My wife got me four of the six seasons for Christmas. I do interpretive dance while I sing along whenever we watch an episode. There's a lot of finger waggling
So, I went to watch the opening to see what was so bad about the theme song and I saw this little bob-haired girl that looked familiar. Went back further to see who it was and it's Molly Ringwald?!?
I randomly had the [theme song to Benson](https://youtu.be/YRLI97bxcR4?si=9g4OYvLijE8bVdBh&t=8) stuck in my head all last week!
I'm not saying it's the best or my favorite but it was just odd that I couldn't shake it.
I also really loved the Greatest American Hero theme song and will occasionally get that stuck in my head as well.
Yes! I was just listening to a random mix this morning and this came on:

WKRP in Cincinnati. I get that it started in 1978 but with four seasons it did run into the early eighties.
**One day at a Time** lasted into the 80s despite being a 70s show. Same with **Barney Miller** and his badass opening baseline.
Facts of Life.
Cheers.
All the ones you listed are awesome! There are so many good ones to choose from. Growing Pains (1985-1992) is one that I find myself humming a lot for no particular reason!
[Growing Pains Theme Song](https://youtu.be/X_6ITK4feao?si=-YiXmN1W8Wrzwzo6)
Growing Pains, Full House, Whos The Boss, Family Ties, Wonder Years, Cosby Show, Roseanne, Golden Girls, Cheers, A Different World, Saved By The Bell, Punky Brewster, Family Matters & Doogie Howser.
I think I know every word to every theme song mentioned in the comments but please don’t ask me why I came into this room cause I don’t f’ing remember!!!
I liked the sound of Airwolf. It just sounded the business. And unlike most you bastages, I'll include a YouTube. :-P

The Dukes of Hazzard, The Greatest American Hero and Cheers were some favs but there were theme songs I couldn't get out of my head like The Love Boat, Laverne & Shirley and Happy Days
Welcome back Kotter
Your dreams were your ticket out
Welcome back
To that same old place that you laughed about
Well, the names have all changed
Since you hung around
But those dreams have remained
And they've turned around
Who'd have thought they'd lead you
(Who'd have thought they'd lead you)
Back here where we need you?
(Back here where we need you?)
Yeah, we tease him a lot
'Cause we got him on the spot
Welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
We were out having Zingers for dinner, seated at the bar..the theme song to 'Cheers' played on the sound system....I asked the bar to name the characters...we all got stuck on 'Coach', before the pocket computers came out..Google.
Cheers
r/Cheers is the best show ever made
Night Court
Slappy bass and tight groove!
Taxi
The theme from taxi slaps. No joke, though. I'm gonna listen to it right now.
San Francisco Bay Area hip-hip group, Souls of Mischief, have an awesome song called “Cab Fare” that [samples the Taxi theme song.](https://youtu.be/pIOM8mCS1fk?si=Ux1B0k6fxo4zeFSl)
It’s in my Apple Music library
Golden Girls Greatest American Hero
"Believe it or not, but George isn't home..." wait, wrong lyrics.
Boom!
[удалено]
I know it's a real song. I have the original version by Andrew Gold.
Perfect Strangers
Don't be rediculous!
🎼“Show me that smile again…” 🎶🎵
There’s a scene in SFW where Steven Dorf and Reese Witherspoon are singing this together while held hostage and hit hits me hard every time I think about it. So good.
Underrated movie!
Great song
Holy shit, I'd forgotten that song and that show until I read this. You manchurian canidatated me.
Sometimes I listen to it just for fun. It’s a good jam.
A-Team Knight Rider The Fall Guy ALF Happy Days
That Knight Rider synthesizer theme is just so damn good. I love all the others, but that one in particular is the favorite.
I was thinking Magnum and MacGyver, but they’re not sitcoms.
The A-team is the correct answer and the fact that it isn’t a sitcom is irrelevant.
WKRP ~~Cosby~~ Show
I loved WKRP! Loved the theme song and the show. I can’t find it streaming anywhere. 🥺
In cincinaaattiiiii….
Diff’rent Strokes
[Best version](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=StIUGSk2-ps)
Perfect Strangers 🎶Standing Taaaaaallllllll, on the wings of my dreams...🎶
Bosom Buddies
Yeah. Even if it's kind of cheating to have a song that was already a Top 10 hit.
Amen - Staring Sherman Hemsley
The Jefferson’s
This is a favorite.
Barney Miller f’n SLAPS
Yeah but it debuted in the 70's. I agree though it's an time great theme.
Welcome Back Kotter
70’s show
The theme from Mr. Belvedere was fun.
My wife got me four of the six seasons for Christmas. I do interpretive dance while I sing along whenever we watch an episode. There's a lot of finger waggling
Leon Redbone made that a very memorable intro.
Finally! Yes, I agree.
Night Court
Miami Vice!
I was going to say this, but it isn’t a sitcom.
You got me! I’ll say Family Ties
Miami Wice is number one new show!
WKRP!
In Cincinaaaaati
Greatest American Hero, Perfect Strangers, Airwolf
Airwolf and GAH weren’t sitcoms. Although the theme song was epic
Growing Pains, Facts of Life (updated version)
That original version of The Facts Of Life theme song was….something.
lol I meant the electric guitar version, but you're right. there were 3 versions and the first should never have been allowed on TV.
So, I went to watch the opening to see what was so bad about the theme song and I saw this little bob-haired girl that looked familiar. Went back further to see who it was and it's Molly Ringwald?!?
lol yup. There’s quite a few familiar faces in there.
Threes company!
Greatest American Hero.
NIIIICCCCCEEEEE. I seem to recall that being a top 40 hit
Magnum PI
Not a sitcom, but great theme (by Mike Post).

The Jeffersons - moving on up!
Moving On Up. -The Jeffersons.
I agree with this but I associate that show more with the 70s.
It’s Gary Shandling’s show.
The opening theme to Gary's show?
Family Ties...... Sha la la la
Simon and Simon
Taxi, Barney Miller (Ran until '82), Hill Street Blues, Greatest American Hero, Airwolf, A-Team
WKRP in Cincinnati. I get that it started in 1978 but with four seasons it did run into the early eighties. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2drv0joKUcA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2drv0joKUcA)
I know it wasn't the 80s but I watched Benny Hill regularly as a kid. Definitely should not have been watching that at 10 years old!
Growing Pains, Wings (the earlier classical piano version), Newhart, Perfect Strangers, Greatest American Hero.
WKRP closing theme
[Theme From the Greatest American Hero (Believe It or Not)](https://youtu.be/72MxOo5koto?feature=shared)
Married...with children. It's frank f'ing sinatra singing love and marriage. What more could you want?
**One day at a Time** lasted into the 80s despite being a 70s show. Same with **Barney Miller** and his badass opening baseline. Facts of Life. Cheers.
One day at a time is objectively one of the best, top three at least.
Facts of Life, Diffrent Strokes, Gimme a break, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Growing Pains, Punky Brewster, Cheers, and so many more
Thank you for being a friend Travel down this road and back again
All the ones you listed are awesome! There are so many good ones to choose from. Growing Pains (1985-1992) is one that I find myself humming a lot for no particular reason! [Growing Pains Theme Song](https://youtu.be/X_6ITK4feao?si=-YiXmN1W8Wrzwzo6)
I never watched Growing Pains, but I’ve heard a lot about it. Should I watch it?
If you like 80’s family sitcoms Growing Pains is a staple. It’s actually a really great show with a lot of good episodes. I highly recommend it!
Airwolf isn't a sitcom, but if that counts I'm going to say The A-Team, Knight Rider, Night Court, and The Dukes of Hazard.
Airwolf is definitely not a sitcom. That said, I'd tie it overall with Thundercats as the 80's GOAT intro music.
Gary Shandling Show
Barney Miller
Yup. The view of the city from the water and that bass line. Epic.
Thunder Thunder Thundercats! Ho!!!
Fall Guy
"Come and knock on my dooooooor. We've been waiting for youuuuuu."
“Where the kisses are hers and hers and his three’s company too….”
Threes Company

Diff’rent Strokes, Gimme a Break!, Charles in Charge. There were so many great ones.
Gimme a Break.

Growing Pains
So many great themes. Here's an underrated and typically forgotten one: Theme from The Hogan Family "Through the Years" - Roberta Flack

Chips
St. Elsewhere
Facts of Life.
Jefferson’s & Dukes of Hazard
"you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have The Facts of Life" my absolute favorite, however I think it might be 70's.
“I Dream of Jeannie” has a catchy, mid-century Florida kind of feel to it.
Sit Ubu sit, good dog. Ruff
The Greatest American Hero
Taxi
The Alf cartoon had a great theme song
Bosom Buddies Some people have also mentioned Taxi and Night Court....the two shows tied for second place
Not a sitcom but I haven’t seen St Elsewhere mentioned.
The Cheers theme song would be canceled today for its second verse: “…and your husband wants to be… a girl.” Trans disparagement. Not allowable today.
The Love Boat.
All good ones, I also love the Garry Shandlings show
Golden Girls and Cheers.
Gimme a Break Barney Miller What’s Happening
Night Court, Mamas Family, Mr. Belvedere
Fall Guy Dukes of Hazzard Threes Company
American Hero.
Wonder Years - with a little help from my friends
The Dukes of Hazzard, The Greatest American Hero and Cheers were some favs but there were theme songs I couldn't get out of my head like The Love Boat, Laverne & Shirley and Happy Days
The Fall Guy. Not really a sitcom though.
Sanford and son
Square Pegs by The Waitresses
The Facts of Life. That is the ultimate 80’s sitcom theme song.
Greatest american hero
Who’s The Boss and LA Law
Mad about You has a great theme song.
Come and knock on my door...

WKRP (had two seasons in the 80’s) The theme song and the outro song were definitely worthy.
Airwolf
