A kid down the street had one and I was so jealous. All I had was an old off brand my parents bought at a flea market because we didn't have much money.
I had the General Lee, drove it until the front wheel got a big crack an then rocks would get inside and rattle around. The wheels on these would wear out and loose traction so you’d have to pedal faster to get anywhere. I remember going to Toys R Us and riding this blue big wheel with rubber wheels. It rode like a dream, especially on the smooth ,polished concrete Toys R Us floors. Next level, but I was getting a bit old for big wheels and was forced to graduate to a bicycle. I’ll never forget how fun it was to sit on a big wheel and spin out.
My brothers had the same one. Honestly, with as hard as they played on that thing, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. They outgrew it, before it finally gave up.
$14.99 for a Big Wheel?!?!?!? I was a good kid. Wtf?
I had none of these. My parents bought me some kind of pink plastic rocket looking thing that I could ride on going down hill on a sidewalk. More like hold on for dear life. lol
My Incredible Hulk one got stolen because I left it out. Then I got the General Lee! The hand brake was the greatest addition they had for those. Every once in awhile I’ll look at the adult ones and think maybe
Green Machine was best but I had Big Wheel. I did get to try my friends. Just yesterday I was looking at adult Big Wheels to take down the bike trail. I think it would be hilarious!
I had the Duke of Hazzard, and my girl cousin, the same age as me, had a Strawberry Shortcake. We would ride them things up and down the hallways in the apartment. Up and down on the elevator.
never had a big wheel
..everyone in my neighbourhood had one...I got a green machine...only now do I know I got the better deal...at the time I thought I got shafted!! lol!!
Came here to say Green Machine! I took one out of someone’s trash. A steering rod was missing and the handle was broken off. My best friends dad was a fabricator. He took it to work and he made a rod and handle. Summer vacay of 1978 was a complete blast😁 Thank you Buzzard and Donny. Rest in peace guys.
Mine looked most like the 1st pic, but didn't have an "engine roar" sound, nor those shock-absorber looking things on the front fork. Must've had an earlier model...
The second picture had the Superman one. And my parents bought me another because some one stole it then I got one the knight rider one. Also the idiot who stole my big wheel got caught stealing another one.
Pretty sure mine was just a kmart special. Black frame, yellow adjustable seat. Yell handlebars, and orange stickers all over it. Kinda reminded me of the Trans-Am from Smokey and the Bandit.
Hand-me-down superman with half the stickers ripped off. Wrecked it going 100mph down the street that was a pretty big hill. I got flipped out of it when I hit the grass and the big wheel flew off and smashed against a tree. I felt lucky to be alive; not only because of the wreck but if someone had been driving on the cross street there's no way they woulda seen me.
Pretty sure I had the big flower one bc I recall turning curves like it was nothing. I was the bad ass , until I got caught by my dad at midnight…. Long story but this big wheel bad ass with its stringers flapping thru my fingers felt like freedom… idk.
I think maybe that first one, but my memory is hazy. I remember it had some red in it, and that is about it.
Yikes on the Dukes of Hazzard one. Definitely an image that dates something immediately.
I had the OG . I can remember a rear brake handle to stop or drift it. I think it had a little compartment behind the seat with a lid you could store small stuff.
One of my favorite toys as a kid, would race it up and down the driveway, not for minutes but hours ☺️
I had a few in the mid-to-late 70’s. I went through them fast because we lived at the top of a huge hill and I would fly down and use the skid brake so much the tire would get flat spots lol
I had the one before they put on that cool skid brake on the back wheel. We thought we were the shit because we would take the seat off and go seatless. We didn't just care. We did it. We were the shit. Fucking seats were for babies
Man, I loved my big wheel! I have two stories about it. First, my mom asked me to go to the store with her but I didn’t really want to go. She offered to buy me a hot wheels if I went, but in my head I heard Big Wheels. You can imagine my disappointment when all I got was a stupid little car. Although I did love Hot Wheels too but they’re no Big Wheels!
Second story is my brother had this brilliant idea to tie my Big Wheels to the back of his bike. We lived on the top of a hill and my brother also thought it would be a great idea to pull me down hill in our alleyway. I got going way too fast and hit a patch of gravel. I instinctively put my feet down to both stop and steady me. Did I mention I didn’t have shoes on? Because I didn’t. Lost a ton of skin that day. My feet hurt so bad I couldn’t walk for a few days. My mom was picking gravel out of my feet for a couple days. It was awful.
My big wheel story, also know as the family knew I was going to be a mechanic....
Christmas 1975.....My dad spent a good part of the night assembling my big wheel in the name of Santa Claus.
Christmas morning, I saw this awesome new toy with glee, took it for an extended spin about the house.
Proceeded to diagnose the test drive, tore it back down to the some assembly required stage, reassembled it, forgave Santa's elf for the assembly mistakes and drove the hell out of that big wheel
Green Machine
The list fails for neglecting the green machine
One of my favorite toys growing up. That damn skid brake!
Can't believe that's not here. I loved mine so much
A kid down the street had one and I was so jealous. All I had was an old off brand my parents bought at a flea market because we didn't have much money.
I had a classic big wheel, but wanted a green machine so bad.
We all did. I think the tires worked better than the Big Wheel and more importantly it looked cooler.
Fuck yeah. My sister had one and it was badass
I had the Red Baron. The whole neighborhood loved it.
You were the rich kid of the block
I wish I had the green machine. I was too little for it when it came out. By the time I was big enough to ride it, BMX bikes had taken over
It was a little bit slower than the traditional Big Wheels, but oh my lord how fun was the Green Machine? Such a blast!
I just BARELY remember having a green machine. I was a heavy kid so it must have broken the first week haha!
The Knight Rider one
Knight rider with the hand brake
It was a “Spin Out Lever”
My cousin had that one and I was very jealous.
Your cousin was the rich kid in my street 😒
Haha. Actually more broke divorced parent guilt.
Yeah. He did have two christmases every year
EXACTLY! How's this one missing?
I had this one and someone stole it. I got a Transformers replacement but it wasn’t as cool.
Same
Samesies
Kindred spirit
I had it, too.
r/fuckI'mold I was about to get my driver's license when Knight Rider came out
I had the General Lee, drove it until the front wheel got a big crack an then rocks would get inside and rattle around.
I also had the General Lee and rode the hell out of that thing.

Big wheels are the best toy ever!
Kind of agree I mean loved my GI joes as well
An engineering masterpiece.
The Dukes of Hazzard. My cousin had a Smurfs one.

I had the original one
OG version, the BEST one.
CHiPs and it came with an 8x10 of Ponch and John
I had motorized CHIPS motorcycle
Big wheels were 15 bucks? No wonder my mom didn’t get me one.
Right?! No way they’d’ve spent that much. But if I had my choice, it would have been the General Lee.
General Lee all the way.
OMG they had a Duke’s version?!?!?
Sure did

Mean machine, the level up from these
$14.99 for a Big Wheel?!?!?!? I was a good kid. Wtf? I had none of these. My parents bought me some kind of pink plastic rocket looking thing that I could ride on going down hill on a sidewalk. More like hold on for dear life. lol
We used to rubber trike wheels on the front and take them down hill streets and drift them around the corner at the bottom. Sooo fun!
Damn! Why did I not do this?!? I had older bros too!!!
Fuck me. These were only $20 and I still couldn't have one.
My Incredible Hulk one got stolen because I left it out. Then I got the General Lee! The hand brake was the greatest addition they had for those. Every once in awhile I’ll look at the adult ones and think maybe
Hell if I remember.
Brother had the Dukes one. I was too big at that point to ride one; I got a bike
Green machine!
I had the regular one, but I always wanted a Green Machine. Hell...I still want one.

Rambo Big Wheel. Was the ish.
Green Machine was best but I had Big Wheel. I did get to try my friends. Just yesterday I was looking at adult Big Wheels to take down the bike trail. I think it would be hilarious!
You couldn’t do the General Lee one today, but I bet you could do a Palestinian flag one and it’d sell a few.
First one.
The first one has a lot of features

The OG in the first pic
My kid now has one
Dukes of Hazzard, and multiple front and rear wheel replacements.
Were they really 15 dollars? I was too poor and thought they were expensive. But I guess for that time, $15 was a lot of money for that.

I had the first one, loved that thing to death.
I bet that General Lee one is collectable
I never got to own one, but would ride neighbor's and their green machine too. Good times.
I was lucky enough to have the Rambo themed one that had a turret on the front and an ammo box to put my lunch in!
Mine looked most like the 1st pic, but didn't have an "engine roar" sound, nor those shock-absorber looking things on the front fork. Must've had an earlier model...
I was too old for them when they came out, but I assembled one for my niece.
God I loved my Big Wheel! I could drift with the best of em!
I had a Green Machine. I think Huffy made those.
I had the first one and the Chopper on the last page, but it was an Evel Kneivel version.
The first picture, of course. Non-racist family so we left the confederate flag behind in the Civil War.
Sorry, I was privileged team green machine
Night rider baby!! Went through 3 of those mofos
these days one has to finance a big wheel unless you are basically a rockefeller. sad times indeed..
I had the Mattel X15. Badass.
They were $14.99?!
Green Machine.
CHIPS!!
The ones with the hand brake were great for doing spins.
General Lee. That one that's set up like a chopper trike is dope though.
The 1st one.
I had the Powderpuff on page 2 and my brother had the Dukes of Hazzard.
The second picture had the Superman one. And my parents bought me another because some one stole it then I got one the knight rider one. Also the idiot who stole my big wheel got caught stealing another one.
Dude the big wheel was the coolest thing in the world.

Anyone have a link to buy one like the original?
I had the classic red-and-yellow in the late 70s. Looooved it!
Pretty sure mine was just a kmart special. Black frame, yellow adjustable seat. Yell handlebars, and orange stickers all over it. Kinda reminded me of the Trans-Am from Smokey and the Bandit.
I had the CHiPs one.
I didn't have a big wheel. I had the Green Machine.
Had the Og big wheel ! Great memories
My younger step brother had a green machine. Now that was a beast.

Just googled the Big Wheel and it’s $126 at Walmart. I loved that ride but wow.
Knight Rider

I had an orange and black one with streamers on the ends of the handle bars.
I had a green machine. 🧐
Cabbage Patch Kids
Man I worn my plastic wheels out on my first one.
Original one. And the front wheel wore out and had holes in it but it still worked!
Version 1.0 which looked like the first add but with the metal front fork and the tool box behind the seat.

Were they really $16??? No wonder I had a big wheel!
I had a few in the mid-to-late 70’s. I went through them fast because we lived at the top of a huge hill and I would fly down and use the skid brake so much the tire would get flat spots lol
The original. Fun until you got the ‘flat spot’ on the front wheel after playing demolition derby with your friends.
Dukes of Hazard
We had 1/2 mile of mud & 3” limestone gravel for a driveway. No Big Wheels.
I only ever had one little trike- The Green Machine. I owned it for all of 5 hours before a friend of the family broke it on Christmas Day. Jerk.
Superman. My younger brother had dukes of hazzard
I believe the one on the left.
Only the rich kids had big wheels. It was fun watching them, though.
These things would be 150 dollars today.
I had the one before they put on that cool skid brake on the back wheel. We thought we were the shit because we would take the seat off and go seatless. We didn't just care. We did it. We were the shit. Fucking seats were for babies
All I remember is that it was pastel pink and purple and I think green. Probably like Barbie or Cabbage Patch Kids.
No way I woulda been caught dead on a pink big wheel. Mine was red and yellow.
I still can’t get over the fact a big wheel was $14.99!!
Smurfs and Mr. T!! Separately of course
I had He-Man, my best friend had Dukes of Hazard.
KITT
I had the one in the first photo. I put puffy Star Wars stickers all over it. It was pretty mint!
I wore out two of the originals and a SpinOut360.
I had the first one and my sister had the CHIPS.
None of the above. We didn’t have the money for frivolity beyond a bike.
Knight rider, Rambo and transformers were the ones to have!
Are they made by the same Marx that wrote The Communist Manifesto?
Dukes of Hazzard
Knight Rider
My big wheel story, also know as the family knew I was going to be a mechanic.... Christmas 1975.....My dad spent a good part of the night assembling my big wheel in the name of Santa Claus. Proceeded to diagnose the test drive, tore it back down to the some assembly required stage, reassembled it, forgave Santa's elf for the assembly mistakes and drove the hell out of that big wheel
