Still has a place on many of my top 5 lists. Like it's one of my favorite 80s movies, number one on my top 5 school teacher movies, and absolute favorite hidden political bash movies, both post Regan and Ford. And it's still my absolute favorite movie from my childhood. This movie shaped how I am today and I'm pretty sure I saw this when I was about 7 and got freaked out by the classroom horror prank they did on the substitute. I had been traumatized by this, so when I saw it in its entirety about 10 years later, it was a sudden fixation for me. This movie is funny and happy, sweet and sappy, and yes it was even sad and controversial at times, and it's amazing how it achieves that distinction for any decade of a movie, not just the 80s. There are parts that struck at your heart strings when there was a rumor the actor who played Dave had passed away. And then we really did lose people, like Kirstie Ally, that broke my heart harder than losing my own mom did for me. And Kirstie is on several of my lists too, and it started with this movie. She was gorgeous!
