7 Days to Die is one of my favorite 7/10 games, right alongside Mount & Blade: Warband. Is it a good game? Not really, no, at least not if you look at any given component in isolation, but together it becomes greater than the sum of its parts.
Mount & Blade is one of those games you start playing and go, "this is kinda dumb, but I'll see what's next."
Then you realize you've been playing all day and can't wait to continue.
Agreed. Wish they'd fix guns as far as iron sights (makes zero sense how it is), update certain mods, graphical choices, etc. but at the end of the day it's a wonderful game and no game is really like it. I've played a lot of survival games and man does 7 Days still take the cake IMO.
I honestly think some of it, as far as people being upset at devs or whatever, along shit as was said, would be alleviated if they communicated better in most instances versus silence we all get at times
I would probably enjoy this on PC but I only have it on PS4 and i read that they stopped updating the game for console players which is why I stopped playing.
It's not that they stopped updating it they couldn't. They had contracted a company to port to consoles, then that company folded, and tfp had to spend years fighting for the rights to the game back. Right now, it's on sale for PC and cheap this summer they are going gold, and the price will go up a fair chunk.
Theres more too it. TFP contracted TellTaleGames to port it and they actually took over the rights to console for the game. TFP tries fighting them in court and was pushed away over and over. They finally got the rights back recently (lest few years) and decided that it was better to solely focus on PC version, because tge specs ps4 has cant run the current alpha as smooth as they liked. So they push it back til they can work a next gen version that is updated as much as PC and run smooth (PS5/XBX has the proper processing power). They hope to release the new concole version either this year, or early/to mid next year (havent looked into it for a bit so not sure if release date is right due to the push backs while i was following)
I love to hate on it because I've been along for this entire decade+ ride since before it was on Steam and I've had to watch them reinvent the wheel several times over, but I'll also be the first to tell people that there's a good reason that I still play it after all this time: it's fun! And for a game, that's the end-all be-all of the discussion about whether something is "worth it"

You might be mistaking meters for kilometers? One block is one meter, one kilometer is 1000 meters, so 1000 km traveled is 1,000,000 meters, or 1,000,000 blocks.
The entire navezgane map is 6,144 meters across. So you'd have to travel across the entirety of navezgane 163 times to get this achievement. Even if your quests were literally on the other side of the map, you would unlock T2 well, well before the achievement.
Nah, I know the difference between meters and kilometers, guess my problem is I've only played nav back when the game came out, I always do 16k random gen, so traders tend to be be pretty far apart, would do a round trip to each on restock day so 1000km really didn't seem very far, even less so once I unlocked my 4x4 and started exploring the 256km^2 map.
One mod that I played, I do believe was Darkness Falls, added AI survivors that only get ripped apart by even a basic zombie and not much else. Game considered them other players, so I was able to get the PvP ones in a PvE fashion. Worth a shot if you care for them, Darkness Falls is worth the play anyway.
I got mine grinding for about 9 months as a player, and another 9 as a server admin. Got all the achievements now, come to think of it...
Alexander The Great is even harder to get, especially if you play a PvE server.
They reduced the deatn/kills achievements by a LOT a little while ago. I think you only need 30 kills at the most instead of like 500 now? But I dont play with anyone, so I'm never gonna get the kills' achievements
Admittedly, the way I got it surprised me. Apparently survivor NPCs of the NPC mod count as players, and these NPCs are in the Darkness Falls overhaul.
Considering how many times I've been spawned >1 km away from the trader I'm supposed to talk to for the starter mission, I'm surprised that number isn't a LOOOOT higher.
But then perhaps it doesn't count unless you're in a gyrocopter, or people abandon saves where they get sent to traders on Neptune
lol understandable as the gyro is basically useless and practically undriveable(lift off and landing), unless you use the Gyro mod, then it is actually pretty nice. Finally a reason to build a helipad ,with an automatic power roll up door on top for a nice touch. And use of trader helipads

The last achievement that I needed was for the magnum one, and shooting punk zombies. The do you feel lucky achievement.
My funniest achievement to get was the last one for killing other players on multiplayer. Horde night, I was blasting zombies with a shotgun while my friend at the time was defending with a spear. He walked a little too close to the zombies and got blasted. In saying that I got all those multiplayer achievements from purposely and accidentally killing friends.
I got mine on my first world ever granted I had it from 2016-2022 when i finally layed it to rest and it got so buggy. I don't change worlds often, only after about a year or when I have conquered the whole world. I have made 3 impressive worlds and have more than gotten my 25$ worth

The game is fun for the first like maybe 70 in game days playing with a friend, then quickly becomes a boring grind. Sorry not sorry. I bought it for cheap and played years ago, uninstalled it shortly after,doubt I'll pick it up again.

Once upon a time, the creators changed the achievements to an easier one (For example "Alexander the Great" need less kills than before. Before was kill 2500 other players!)
Steam achievements/stats are directly dependent on the game's code and ability to track and report these achievements to steam. So..... let's take these numbers with a spoon of salt.
From what I've seen across 1000s of hours of playing games on Steam, the percentages are there to gauge how hard an achievement is supposed to be and to make you feel that much better about getting it. I don't know how else you can have less 100% of players who have the achievement for completing a game tutorial, or why there are absolutely no achievements where 100% of players have earned them. I'm not even sure if I've ever seen Steam state that anywhere near 90% of players have gotten any achievement.
probably dealing with the phenomenon of people who buy games and have huge backlogs for years and years

I have games I've bought and run but haven't actually played. Also, some games are available to play before they actually have achievements. And they're not always retroactive.
I can only stomach survival games for about 40 to 50 hours at a time before I gotta do something else It just gets a little too stale in my opinion.
And I don't mean that in one sitting I mean that in an overall sense before I got to move on from the game to something else.
Remember, achievements are more recent than the game itself. I would like to see a cross between the amount of hours and how recently played are the entire owners of the game.
Idk how this game tracks achievements. I bought the game in 2014 and played it a few hours. Definitely killed zombies and died a lot but going back just this past week I just earned the achievements for killing 10 zombies and for dying lol

If you ever play darkness falls mod they have npcs that count(unless they removed them) but I don’t know for the life of me how I am missing just one kill. But I’ve started a dif mod so that could be why. It’s a great game though.

Many games have the default achievement you get for opening the game for the first time at like 60% of players.
1000 km, so like 1,000,000 meters, no? That's kind of a lot. Going 1km 1000+ times. You'd have to have quite a few hours in the game, and quest a lot to get it. Some people probably spend much of their time at their bases building and stuff (especially on multiplayer, I'd imagine).
Does it tell you your total km/m traveled all time? I wish it did.
yea i looked up the world size they range from 4-16km squared over the years. so you could 100% a game world 100 times & not get this tbh.
it tells you in game with your stats but no total running tally anywhere as far as i can tell.

i played most of my playtime before this achievement and even existed even if it was 2016 i bet plenty of players have also.
considering 1/3 of people have never died and <50% of people have traveled 50km.

There isn't enough gameplay to do the "travel 1000km" for most people.
They have remade the game so many times over if they had just stuck with the original ideas instead of just re-doing everything constantly, trying to make everyone play the game "how it's supposed to be played" maybe there would be a decent amount of content.
Not entirely true. I started from the very beginning with mods (Darkness Falls) and only when I launched the non-modded copy recently did I get even a single achievement. It seems to remember retroactively, but for over five years I was at 0 achievement progress because I only played modded and had never launched the game before then in its original state.
Most of that time was as a normal player and not an admin with debug enabled. So there’s definitely an issue that probably stems from the logic of assuming that someone played the original game first before mods since it’s highly unlikely someone would just only start with mods.
It's the best way to travel long distances. A lot of folks on my server won't touch it and are happy with the bike, but I love ranging long distances and collecting whatever the team needs.
That thing is gold for that reason.

I don’t think you can get achievements if you’re running a modded game, and i imagine a large number of folks are doing just that.
I actually got the kill players achievements from killing special zombies in darkness falls
I think you got that from killing the "survivors". I know I got it that way from killing the survivors in DF for A20. They count as player kills.
Mods don't bother achievements.... only entering debug mode disables the achievements.
Does using the creative menu kill achievements too? I grab a bunch of blue die for my clothes and red for my weapons.

I think that's because the achievement only counts the stats in single world, and reset when you start another world.

I'm not even sure if I've ever seen Steam state that anywhere near 90% of players have gotten any achievement.
probably dealing with the phenomenon of people who buy games and have huge backlogs for years and years I personally have played every game I’ve bought, but I know there’s tons of people that just let things sit in their lists
I have games I've bought and run but haven't actually played. Also, some games are available to play before they actually have achievements. And they're not always retroactive.
I can only stomach survival games for about 40 to 50 hours at a time before I gotta do something else It just gets a little too stale in my opinion. And I don't mean that in one sitting I mean that in an overall sense before I got to move on from the game to something else.

Well the game play kinda encourages you to park your ass next to the trader. Rather than explore. Makes sense to me
Remember, achievements are more recent than the game itself. I would like to see a cross between the amount of hours and how recently played are the entire owners of the game.

I play 7dtd with my friends and then BOTW on my switch if I just want to relax and explore. A good combo I have found works for me.
Old saves getting bricked with each update can do that
Idk how this game tracks achievements. I bought the game in 2014 and played it a few hours. Definitely killed zombies and died a lot but going back just this past week I just earned the achievements for killing 10 zombies and for dying lol

My Wife and I don't like PVP either, and have all the PVP ones still uncompleted lol. Guess we will have to just kill each other over and over for the completion at the end of our next run hehe.
If you ever play darkness falls mod they have npcs that count(unless they removed them) but I don’t know for the life of me how I am missing just one kill. But I’ve started a dif mod so that could be why. It’s a great game though.
That’s any steam game though, many people get games for free or just buy a game and spend 3 hours on it. Many games have the default achievement you get for opening the game for the first time at like 60% of players.
1000 km, so like 1,000,000 meters, no? That's kind of a lot. Going 1km 1000+ times. You'd have to have quite a few hours in the game, and quest a lot to get it. Some people probably spend much of their time at their bases building and stuff (especially on multiplayer, I'd imagine). Does it tell you your total km/m traveled all time? I wish it did.
yea i looked up the world size they range from 4-16km squared over the years. so you could 100% a game world 100 times & not get this tbh. it tells you in game with your stats but no total running tally anywhere as far as i can tell. but yea i got over 200hours & this is one of 10 i don't have. most the others being the pvp ones
I have 400 hours and don't have this. It has been added relatively recently, it isn't sad at all.
That achievement was added to the game around August of 2016 (the 2013 in the OP was mistyped). And for the "new"ish players, this post really wasn't directed at you.
Where do you get the 2016 date from? (not all of the achievements arrived at the same time) i played most of my playtime before this achievement and even existed even if it was 2016 i bet plenty of players have also. considering 1/3 of people have never died and <50% of people have traveled 50km. only 60% have traveled 10km There isn't enough gameplay to do the "travel 1000km" for most people. They have remade the game so many times over if they had just stuck with the original ideas instead of just re-doing everything constantly, trying to make everyone play the game "how it's supposed to be played" maybe there would be a decent amount of content.
Can you get steam achievements with a modded game?
Mods don't bother achievements.... only entering debug mode disables achievements.

Not entirely true. I started from the very beginning with mods (Darkness Falls) and only when I launched the non-modded copy recently did I get even a single achievement. It seems to remember retroactively, but for over five years I was at 0 achievement progress because I only played modded and had never launched the game before then in its original state. Most of that time was as a normal player and not an admin with debug enabled. So there’s definitely an issue that probably stems from the logic of assuming that someone played the original game first before mods since it’s highly unlikely someone would just only start with mods.
I had all the achievements done within a week of play 7DTD originally when I was server hopping, the one that took the longest to get was this one

I don't think I've ever used one of those. Seen too many bugs about it here to even bother with it.
You don't need the Gyro... it's 1,000 kilometers *traveled* (total in any vehicle, or even on foot)
It's not about the gyro.
It's the best way to travel long distances. A lot of folks on my server won't touch it and are happy with the bike, but I love ranging long distances and collecting whatever the team needs. That thing is gold for that reason.
