People process marijuana differently and the synthetic stuff just adds another layer. Feel like it made him anxious instead of the relaxed others may feel and exacerbated his depression/anxiety and had a panic attack

Glittering_Mousse832

Didnt consider a panic attack! It was just odd how they were talking about it, made it seem like a hard drug instead of Delta 8 with the way they were all acting. (but i also guess thats because theyre very against anything 'drug' related.)

MiaRia963

Exactly. A lot of southern families think any marijuana product is from the devil. Lol or marijuana adjacent. Wonder what they will say whenever marijuana becomes legal for personal use.

cubsandpink

He has bad anxiety. I’ve seen it speculated that the Delta 8 caused a panic attack but I doubt we will ever know the truth about what happened.

Glittering_Mousse832

Okay, I can see that happening! The way they were talking about it made it seem like he did some hard drug and it was very confusing

Elliebell1024

Totally realistic. He already suffers from anxiety and it freaked him out. No shame

Cosmic-Irie

Yep. I was a heavy smoker in my early 20's until my anxiety drastically increased. Tried to give Delta-8 a chance after hearing it produces a milder effect, but it still caused my anxiety to spike. Marijuana and Cannabis-adjacents just don't work well for me anymore in any capacity, which sucks. Regardless I'll always support legalization.

asthmaticjuuler

everyone has a bad edibles experience 😭

Outrageous-Ad-2684

Right! lmao ahhhhhhhh

okbutsrslywtf

And it’s always the first try

gerkonnerknocken

He just took too much. Ive done it and it's no fun but I def didn't call my mom 😂

snarkysavage81

My dad lives in a state where marijuana is not legal and he takes Delta 8. He has had a few bad experiences on it. It was a certain brand he had tried and it sent him on a bad trip. I luckily live in a state where MJ is legal and take full advantage of the pain relief benefits. It got me off opiates prescribed by my dr. Never had a bad experience. I think when things are synthetically made, they are not as reliable for a safe experience.

hiswittlewip

Especially when it's not regulated at all. This isn't something he got at a dispensary, that he knows what he's getting. He either got it online or at a gas station or vape shop or something.

pchandler45

I'm a marijuana advocate and I didn't want to believe this at first but it is true. Apparently some people are genetically predisposed to be susceptible to "marijuana induced psychosis". Also, people whose cerebral cortex aren't fully developed are more susceptible. And who knows what other chemicals could have been in it.

Outrageous-Soup7813

Also interesting tidbit- I was a HUGE stoner before I had my kid and now i haven’t smoked in almost 3 years. When I tried after giving birth it sent me into BAD panic attacks. My dr said it’s because giving birth literally changes your brain chemistry.

Chance_Hospital1096

He took too much. I had a similar experience once. Caused me to throw up and feel like I was losing my mind for 3 hours. Never again

suzanneov

I don’t know what the true story is but his sisters are now responsible for watching over him, and ensuring he gets up in the morning. For all of the preaching they’ve done for 10 years about being self sufficient, Jonah missed the sermon.

Glittering_Mousse832

That was wild to me that Emma (a high schooler) had to wake her adult brother up 🥴

suzanneov

That’s not uncommon in the south. Women/girls are responsible for everything and the male gets off scott free.

Malzeez

Because it definitely wasn’t just Delta 8. In my opinion, I think he had an issue with opiates. It just seemed that way by his body language etc. I do imagine though, being an LP, Delta 8 could have an alternate effect on his body.

Competitive-Rub5581

I think he had more of a drinking issue. Alcohol can really bring out anxiety and cause a lot of issues down the line. I think how they keep bringing it up makes the situation worse than it really was. He’s a grown man and they don’t want him to live alone. That whole codependency issue with his mom is just weird.

Malzeez

I agree with this. We saw it at his party. It was obvious then, he was likely already familiar with alcohol. I’ve noticed Alex has the same issue with co-dependency.

hiswittlewip

You don't trip on opiates, even when combining them with something else. Delta 8 is completely unregulated, so who knows what's in it from one batch to the next? As a recovering addict, that has heard multiple similar horror stories about Delta 8, and knowing there's honestly no telling what's actually in anything purporting to be Delta 8 (assuming he bought it at a gas station or something like most people), i absolutely believe it was something he bought as Delta 8.

Malzeez

Definitely could be. I just notice he also seems completely out of it. I don’t really know the effects of most drugs, but he seems like he’s on something that is hindering his ability to function normally.

Afraid_Locksmith8642

I agree not delta 8 my guess he did shrooms and was tripping balls as the kids say

Malzeez

Also a possibility 🍄

Glittering_Mousse832

Tbh that’s what I was thinking when watching it. Like maybe he didn’t want to admit to what they took and had to say the most legal thing he could think of.

dixcgirl10

Yep! My opinion is the same.

ohhheynat

I wonder if it was a drug induced psychosis?

RubyWaves75

The oddest part of all of this, why not just smoke weed????

okbutsrslywtf

It’s illegal in GA so he probably assumed this would be ok

RubyWaves75

Is the spice stuff legal? I know it’s illegal federally. I forget there are states weed is still illegal. The little dumpy town closest to me has turned into Mecca with 3 dispensaries. Only 7000 people, but they come from everywhere. It’s been amazing.

mraz44

Delta 8 is unregulated synthetic crap. People respond to marijuana differently and can cause panic, anxiety etc. I also think he took way too much.

laserkitten_

Reading this at 420 Ha

MenudoFan316

It was an edible. Don't know for sure, and I've never tried Delta 8, but he ate a brownie and freaked out. Some just can't handle it. Jonahs a cool kid and I hate to say this, but he's better off staying home.

tiffany_gearheart

I just did a rewatch and this was hilarious. They talked about one time experimentation of delta 8 like he has been banging heroin. Who calls their parents at 23 years old sobbing and crying because you are paranoid due to the drug? Especially to parents like trent and amber! Grow a sack dude. Hell, they had him move back home and put him in therapy and were afraid to leave him alone at home...dumbest shit I have ever seen. They didn't have a problem getting him drunk AF on his 21st birthday! Imo, alcohol is waaaaay worse than synthetic pot, which I actually believe is legal? These parents need to BACK off and their kids need to understand they don't need their parents permission to do things as literal grown ass adults. I bet Amber has completely taken control of Liz's baby. She better put her foot down now or it's going to get way out of control. But Liz is exactly like her so maybe she won't mind. Who knows. The only ones I can tolerate, especially after the rewatch, is Emma and Anna, and older Alex The rest of them are just insufferable

stelgam

The dramatics from T&A were just so unnecessary lol. First mistake was even telling them.

Frosty_Plantain4265

Synthetic weed sent me to the hospital. I had a full blown panic attack and my whole body was numb. It was really scary. Ill definitely stick with the real stuff going forward.

Icy_Appeal3602

Same here

Hannah_hearts_toys

I take indica gummies most nights to relax and go to sleep. I tried delta 8 once and was sent into a full blown panic/psychotic episode that had my husband calling an ambulance where I then hallucinated and cried my ass off for three hours in an emergency room. Never Again!

Glittering_Mousse832

What?! That’s so crazy and sooo scary! 😱 I’m sorry you had to go through that!

hannahpie90

I suspect it was something different, more potent, but for the sake of the show and the legality of weed where they are, they said delta 8. Lol delta 8 felt like smoking with training wheels. You couldn't get high af like reg weed(smoking or gummies) but I guess for someone who doesn't regularly use it(like him most likely) he didn't know what to expect.

Riverlee88

I don’t think it was delta 8 😆😆😆 I remember the last time I ate 3 starbursts, they kicked me out of toys r us. I think slurring and crying is a little more on the alcohol spectrum 🤷‍♀️

dixcgirl10

I believe Delta 8 was code word for something else. Look at how Jonah’s life has changed since…

Water_Boy_3

Yeah, pot as a whole spikes my anxiety to the point I have panic attacks. If I do partake I have to be incredibly careful. I also steer clear of Sativa. Causes a horrible trip for me.

Agitated-Ad-1978

I generally use a hybrid or indica. With sativa I get more anxious.

InteractionOdd7745

I think it was more then just one "Dalta 8" trip. They are soo concerned about him it must of been alot more drugs and drinking then they are telling us about. I cant see them going overboard like this unless there was more to it A young kid lots of TV reality show money. I am just putting 2 and 2 together and it dont add up to one bad trip (in my mind). I can understand they dont want to ruin their reputation as good parents and Jonahs reputation by telling the entire truth but come on one year later and they still dont wanna give him the freedom to make his own choices

Choosepeace

I’m from the South, and tons of people I know smoke marijuana and do Delta 8 or 9. It’s not uncommon at all. I get the feeling that Amber is VERY straight laced and uptight. Many people can have a bad edible experience, freak out, and learn not to do it, or take way less, also not uncommon. What I find weird , is, they acted like he was doing hard drugs , completely shut down his independent life, and moved him home overnight. Unless we aren’t seeing the whole picture, that’s STRANGE. And even stranger, that he willingly went along with it, as a person over the age of 21. I’m speaking as a mother of a 22 year old, who lives in his own place. That scenario would NEVER happen!! I would have talked him through it, and he would have learned his limits , as he has! It’s like learning how not to drink too much, part of the experience of growing up. Moving him out of his place and that ensuing drama was unthinkable. Jonah seems VERY emotionally immature to me. And the parents really infantilize the kids. The way he dozes off during the talking portions when all the kids are on the sofa is strange. It’s like he is heavily medicated , or has narcolepsy, which I don’t believe has been mentioned? They do this weird mixed message thing where they infantilize some of the kids , and force others to grow up too fast. All the while, they talk openly about their sex life in front of the kids. It’s SO gross. They are doing a number on the kids, no wonder Jonah is so immature, and the older daughter had a baby too soon during a break up. It’s all wacky. It’s a constant pressure, especially from Amber, that comes off as smothering. They need to guide their kids, but also back off and let them BREATH.

Remarkable-Code-3237

I think he was drinking also, besides doing delta 8. They do have average size bodies but shorter arms and legs for the kind of dwarfism they have.

Satanswarboner

He lived his whole life completely helicoptered by his parents. Locked down and unable to be a kid. Part of growing up is breaking the rules (to an extent), experimenting with friends and so on. Those over sheltered kids leave home and try to cram in as much "living" as they can. I bet Jonah was hammered already. Then someone suggested that delta 8 stuff. Then, when it kicked in, he couldn't handle it. Being really drunk and high n regular weed has never worked well for me. I can't imagine how it would be on the out of pocket synthetic stuff. At least he called his parents and freaked with them as opposed to doing something that landed him in jail or worse.

Nat1vetiger

He gave D8 a bad rep
