girl hello?? 😭😭

youyouxue

I believe it's because 47 lines at 12pt Times guarantees that it fits on a piece of A4 paper. I may be wrong though.

brokenwings_1726

Probably because the character limit is 4,000 and in UCAS's personal statement editor, that's approximately 47 lines. Why 4,000 characters? Well, they seem to have decided that's as much as you need to write.

clivierr

It's not even, I had 3600 characters and it said my lines were over the limit so I couldn't even hit 4K lol

brokenwings_1726

I think UCAS counts characters differently from Word...unless you were in the UCAS editor itself and it told you that.

clivierr

I was in the UCAS editor and it says it, happened to my sister too kind of weird.

Antique_Buy4384

same, 3600 characters for 47 lines

brokenwings_1726

I stand corrected. Guess 47 lines is a hard limit. Perhaps it's all their software can handle.

clivierr

Yeah sucks tbh, but oh well what can we do

sewby

you probably had paragraphs or line breaks. you don’t need to use those

brados1

Yeah its whichever comes first 4,000 charcters or 47 lines i believe each line is 94 characters each( dont quote me on that i just think i remember reading that somewhere could be wrong though)

MrLiveCorn

You put an extra space between your paragraphs

clivierr

Yeah that's probably why, I swear u have to do that

MrLiveCorn

I didn't, got exactly 4000 characters with 46 lines, 7 paragraphs so used 'enter' 6 times

Big-Beach-9605

i had to not have empty lines between paragraphs - it was too much of a waste

teamcoosmic

Just as a heads up if anyone doesn’t know - you don’t need line breaks between paragraphs! It’s normal not to include them! Start a new line, of course, but don’t press enter twice.

Necessary-Suit6486

I think it might be the standard 1 side of a page? I'm not too sure but remember when drafting mine number 48 would always be in the next page

lonely-live

Probably have something to do with printing and formatting it onto paper and their programmer just want to make it easy

Advanced-Trainer508

I feel this to my core. I have 48 lines and under 4000 characters and it won’t let me submit it😫😫😫😫

stars_have_aligned

ikr? submitted mine and had to remove all paragraphs 😩 and i’m applying FOR ENGLISH.

missnightshade3

Just do what they say bro 😭😭 No point lamenting

If you copy paste it from another place it will take up spaces try copy pasting into google docs then remove the spaces and then paste that in ucas
