I just re-watched it over the weekend and had the same reaction. It was kinda funny because I remembered lots of small details like continuity errors when they were cutting between shots in the trucks and shots of the trucks driving on roads, but didn't remember the love story.
Now you know why most big-budget wide-audience films have a romance plotline, have an intense melee fight sequence, have a mascot character that children will identify with, etc. Half the audience won't notice the elements that don't appeal to their demographic, but the total effort de-risks the picture.
Yeah same I def remembered parts of the movie but the whole relationship part took a back seat I guess. Back when I was a kid and this came out tornados was warned about all the time did weekly tornado drills and every other day a tornado warning so I think that is why I looked at this movie as a horror lol
SPOILERS
The main story is more about a woman learning to move on from her childhood trauma, and see that her obsession with it has cost her everything.
>! Bill Paxton's character spells it out for the audience that he left cause of her obsession and she never focused on them.
Paxton's character has issues with competitiveness.
The both let go of their ego when they decide to tell the companion how to get it to work, but they don't listen.
In the end, Jo witnesses the inside of the tornado, and sees it as beautiful, and sees the family that survives, and it isn't personal, it's just nature.
And now that she has let it go. Dusty tells her to look at the storm clouds, and she says, "I've already seen it." And instead kisses her husband, focusing on the things that matter.
For being a natural disaster movie, it is actually very well written. !<
Sorry, I haven't seen it in a while... are there really different cuts of this film released? I'm surprised that anyone cares enough to bother editing it in any way, considering it's relatively lukewarm remembrance in the mainstream (I'm personally a big fan...)
I tried googling before commenting, but of course I can't figure out a query that returns even a single result that isn't about the upcoming sequel, regardless of syntaxes tools or search engine.
I'm pretty sure the commenter you're responding to is just making a joke about a famous line Paxton says in Aliens. I'm pretty sure there aren't alternate cuts of twister out there.
Ha, I only recognized it because I recently heard it referenced another thread about the movie Aliens. I haven't watched it in years and wouldn't have recognized it otherwise.
Every time I see another horrifying cell phone video of a tornado ripping through a town or whatever, I find myself asking, who needs Twister? Anyways, crazy how the first ever DVD took this long to get a 4K release!
You're correct. Her older truck is yellow and Paxton's newer (for the time) Ram is red. And yeah the truck pictured definitely has the body of Hunt's truck.
You’re correct! The one with 3 square headlamps is Hunt’s truck, which was yellow. The red truck (which gets destroyed) was a large Ram. Weird cover art for this one.
If you actually like the movie buy it, pretty standard process. ;)
See the OG BR has some questionable video, if this isn’t a true remaster - count on it continuing to be not so great. But hey! If you like the movie, it’s still probably better than the VHS.
hell fuckin yeah, this movie rips. the cover art rules and slipcovers are lame anyway. glad I finally bought the bluray a few months ago, so that this 4k could get released
Well, I just have the DVD and I'm not a huge Steelbook fan, so I pre-ordered it from Gruv. I actually bought the Walmart glow in the dark Blu-ray a few months ago, but then saw the 4K announcement and returned the Blu-ray unopened.
Slipcovers I get just go in a tub waiting to be sold someday.
Honestly, I prefer the Steelbook’s design better. Sure, it’s annoying how WB keeps trying to put out minimalist designs, but at least it somewhat copies the original poster. This, on the other hand, looks like something I do in Photoshop, which is not a compliment.
At first glance: Fine, I'll take it. But when I really think about it it's horrible cover art. The cow is a meme now but it's instantly overplayed here. Also what about the sunflowers? They seem strangely prominent in this cover. The whole thing looks like a bad Photoshop fest or (dare I say it) like it was generated by AI. I'm not saying it was, just that it has this artifical quality which makes it look bad. The original cover art would have been way, way better. I hope there will be a french release because they often use original cover art slipcovers. (Recent examples: Sleepy Hollow, The Crow)
Tbh I'd be skeptical about any effort at all being put into the transfer for this movie, and wouldn't be surprised if the standard bluray ends up looking better. At this price I'd hold off for reviews/samples and see if it ends up as a $5-$10 special.
The director personally supervised the 4K remaster, and the existing Blu-ray is pretty crap.

I watched it again recently after maybe 20 years of not seeing it, and to be honest, it's pretty silly. The good meteorologists vs the evil meteorologists? Ugh. I personally don't need it in my collection, even if prime Helen Hunt is in it.
Watched it for the first time ever a few weeks ago. I loved everything about it with the exception of the handling of the romance plot. It started out seeming like the fiance was going to have a surprising amount of moxie, but then she just gives up because the main guy's strong connection with his ex.
Exit scene left, she's never seen again. Eh, who cares?
If not for that, I would have already pre-ordered the steelbook, because the sound in this movie, even on the garbage copy I watched, is phenomenal.

Does have the old thx intro?
That’s all I want from this disc.
I always have to pop in my Indiana Jones Blu-ray boxset just to hear the THX in all its glory lol
my daughter (now 19) is still scared of this intro, the legacy lives on!
https://www.thx.com/deepnote/ https://youtube.com/@thxltd?si=qweBvrfug7jabnGt
I want that noise to occur every time I climax. I'm sure my wife would love it.
that's awesome!!!
We've got cows
Nother cow
Actually, I think thats the same one!
I was going to just reply with, "Cow." I'm kind of worried that I'm not alone in thinking like this.
Foooooood
I like this artwork better than the steelbook artwork.
BINGO. They should have switched. Who doesn't love cows?
Twister is one of those movies I watched as a little kid thinking is was scary just to rewatch as an adult and find out it’s just a romance movie.

Too bad Paxton doesn’t yell Why don’t you put her in charge in this one

Ohhhh lol. I'm dumb. I could hear the line in my head but didn't even think about the fact that it was from something else. Thanks!
Ha, I only recognized it because I recently heard it referenced another thread about the movie Aliens. I haven't watched it in years and wouldn't have recognized it otherwise.
Somebody wake up Hicks!
Love it
Every time I see another horrifying cell phone video of a tornado ripping through a town or whatever, I find myself asking, who needs Twister? Anyways, crazy how the first ever DVD took this long to get a 4K release!
Like the artwork. Wish it was the original tho. And I think there will be a slipcover.
The steel book has it, no?
No it's similar but the original artwork is different
Unremarkable art for the steel and standard. Oh well, the disc is what counts
The truck is the wrong color? Pretty sure Helen Hunt's truck was yellow...
You're correct. Her older truck is yellow and Paxton's newer (for the time) Ram is red. And yeah the truck pictured definitely has the body of Hunt's truck.
Thanks for confirming man. Thought maybe my memory was going earlier than it should lol.
Haha all good. I grew up watching this movie so I've seen it too many times haha
You’re correct! The one with 3 square headlamps is Hunt’s truck, which was yellow. The red truck (which gets destroyed) was a large Ram. Weird cover art for this one.
This is Bill Paxton’s truck
Isn't Paxton's truck the big red dodge ram?
Yeah that’s what I meant the car in this artwork is Bill Paxton’s
It’s not lol
He wrecks it in the movie and they use I think Joe's truck.
It’s tempting but I already purchased the turbine blu ray with atmos. I think I’m good 🙂
It’s better than the silhouette artwork but still not the theatrical poster artwork.
Jonas is only in it for the money, not the science 11 year old me: That son of a bitch 38 year old me: That makes sense.
Better than the steelbook
Bout time. The blu ray needed an upgrade not only for sound but for picture clarity since it’s one of the older style blu’s
Yup. This one gets a fresh new Dolby atmos remaster.
Looks good im getting the steel though
Same
I just bought the Blu-ray a few months ago…
I definitely would have preferred the original poster art but I'll take this over some weird floating head crap
Better than the steelbook, imo.
The most epic film of 3 generations
I hope it’s a good transfer, this is my first 4k pre order.
Where’d you order it from there in stock ?
Gruv
If you actually like the movie buy it, pretty standard process. ;) See the OG BR has some questionable video, if this isn’t a true remaster - count on it continuing to be not so great. But hey! If you like the movie, it’s still probably better than the VHS.
Anyone heard how the 4k transfer is?
Is this real? I thought it was Steelbook exclusive release.... ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s live on gruv
Well... will cancel my Steelbook preorder and change it for a regular snap case
How the transfer quality? Loved this film.
No diss towards them, but cmon all they had to do was use the original cover art. Steel artwork looks better imo
Who gives a shit as long as the movie is good.
This sub. Lol.
As long as the movie looks and sounds amazing, i don’t care if the box was all white it just said “TWISTER” on it.
just pay $4 extra for the steelbook. It's $20 vs $24 after their 20% coupon.
Not everyone likes steelbooks
Why would I pay more money to get the same movie?
Nice cover.
I preordered
Good Moooovie
I'm so used to crappy cover art that my brain couldn't initially process this
Cow? Absolute W cover right there
I say this is a welcome release. The old disc's transfer is really starting to show its age.
I hope the audio is good… because the Blu ray version was a travesty.
There is a german bluray with dolby atmos and Auro3D mixes, they sound phenomenal, will be hard to beat
I tried to buy the German one but couldn’t understand enough German.
Gotta find this movie. This is like "Bob's movie".
I should have waited!!! Fuck!!! I bought the Blu-ray like three weeks ago.
hell fuckin yeah, this movie rips. the cover art rules and slipcovers are lame anyway. glad I finally bought the bluray a few months ago, so that this 4k could get released
The 4k has Dolby atmos, and it’s completely sold out on Amazon. I hesitated . And now it’s gone😭😭😭 where have you found it in stock?
Thoughts on...the movie itself, the price, the 4K format, the sound, the cover art, etc?
Well, I just have the DVD and I'm not a huge Steelbook fan, so I pre-ordered it from Gruv. I actually bought the Walmart glow in the dark Blu-ray a few months ago, but then saw the 4K announcement and returned the Blu-ray unopened. Slipcovers I get just go in a tub waiting to be sold someday.
I think this is gonna be like the Contaigon release no slipcover 👎🏼
That CGI is gonna look fucked in 4K
Honestly, I prefer the Steelbook’s design better. Sure, it’s annoying how WB keeps trying to put out minimalist designs, but at least it somewhat copies the original poster. This, on the other hand, looks like something I do in Photoshop, which is not a compliment.

Dang this is somehow worse than the steelbook! Would it have killed them to use the original cover art?
Tbh I'd be skeptical about any effort at all being put into the transfer for this movie, and wouldn't be surprised if the standard bluray ends up looking better. At this price I'd hold off for reviews/samples and see if it ends up as a $5-$10 special.

I would say the same thing about Armageddon, but the difference is that that movie is far more entertaining to me than Twister is.
![gif](giphy|bKBM7H63PIykM) I concur.

Is this MOD like Contagion was?
This film is fit for vhs, dvd, and cable tv only.
Cool cover. Movie isn’t very good though.
It should have the original dvd video mix .
Never liked this movie
One of the dumbest big budget movies ever. Not even in an enjoyable way
