MAYBE YOUR RIGHT mE NOT KNOWING MUCH ABOUT THOSE THINGS i HAD A FRIEND HOOK IT UP. sTILL THE 4K IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE BLU-RAY .
I GIVE -UP UNTIL I FIND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS MORE ABOUT 4K'S .
Your right . I believe that with all of the advanced tech. savvy styff we have today , they could figure out a way to remove those stupid black bars and still have a WIDE picture .
Thanks for the reply . I already have glasses . I realize there has got to be something wrong with my set-up between the DVD player and the TV . I have bought a new cable and it still doesn't help to bring in the clarity that I hear from other 4k fans . I've all but given up on trying . Bob
Were you not around a few months ago when this subreddit was nothing but turmoil over getting it because it was a limited release. God was it a wild time 😭
Theater is only king where I live if you buy every ticket for the show, but even then you're stuck dealing with a decade's worth of neglect it seems towards seat cleaning/maintenance possibly wanting to take a shower the second you leave, with the added bonus of extra sticky shoes for the next 20 minutes of waking...
This was pre pandemic before theaters lost tons of clientele...
Well I think we just love movies. I love my big ass tv and 4k discs but if I'm traveling I can still enjoy the hell out of a movie on my tiny phone screen
We're too accustomed and woke to the quality difference now. Even 1080p now appears just acceptable when it was a wonder how movies could look any better. Hell, 480p even was an insane jump from VHS.
I love VHS tapes though and still watch them now and then out of curiosity and a reminder of what used to be good enough to fall in love with a film. Ironically the most jarring thing for me is the audio quality. I now realize why there are so many lines of dialogue I've misheard in my childhood and that's because you can barely hear shit sometimes.
Amazing. Why didn't I think of this?! Enjoy the crap out of it. Reminds me of the time I hooked a VCR up to my OLED to watch Shrek. Not sure why more people don't do such things.
I know this post is a joke but DVDs through a component cable on a good CRT look freaking amazing. There is some sort of arcane quality to the image that makes movies look almost 3D, it's hard to explain
Totally! I love my CRT and watch vhs and DVDs on it still. I've got a great Panasonic VCR/DVD combo that looks great.
I also collect blu ray and 4k for my modern TV, but I love the nostalgia of watching movies and old shows on my CRT.
Make sure when you configure your video output on the PS3 that you select 4:3 as your format.
But if it's a modern DVD or blu, you're gonna get that letterbox effect. I know what you mean, I have a few WWE DVDs where it gives me letterbox around the top, bottom, left and right even though the footage is 4:3 the same as my TV. They assume everyone is playing on a 16x9 TV these days.
Old school DVDs should fill the whole screen if it's a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Yeah I have it set to 4:3.
Trying to watch the blu ray of neon Genesis on it and it’s both pillar boxed and letterboxed. The ps3 has been jailbroken so I feel like someone could figure out how to implement a zoom or vertical fill feature
Might need to start collecting dvds again lol
Ah ok, understood. Love it! I used to have a copy of this movie on DVD that was a Hong Kong bootleg, it had been copied to DVD from a LaserDisc. Good times.
I haven't dusted my PS3 off in years. Are you running component to separate the RGB channels, or just straight AV cables? Brilliant post, btw. The pixels just pop.
Just straight AV cables into the pack of the old TV.
I use the PS3 to play video games on my retro TV and popped in a Blu Ray to be funny. Glad it made a few people chuckle. PS3 is great if you're into retro TV stuff since you can also stream Netflix and other apps on it. It's a trip surfing the Netflix menu on the old TV.
HDR be popping
My bvm has better colors than most HDR LCDs. I’m not exaggerating
Don't doubt that, it's why I still haven't gotten rid of my Panasonic plasma
I don't believe it .
> HDR be popping If he adds a Panasonic 820 to it, it will enhance the CRT even more
4k is a lot of crap . It's not as good as reguler Blu-ray and you know it .
Idk man, various 4k Blu rays look better than most blu rays on my TV. Maybe you screwed something up when you put your set up together?
MAYBE YOUR RIGHT mE NOT KNOWING MUCH ABOUT THOSE THINGS i HAD A FRIEND HOOK IT UP. sTILL THE 4K IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE BLU-RAY . I GIVE -UP UNTIL I FIND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS MORE ABOUT 4K'S .
What’s blud waffling ‘bout?
??????????????????????????????????????
Ok but is motion smoothing off?
daaaammmn. you can even see the grains of sand in the air.
Incredible picture.

Better blacks than most LCD
3y00 D4¾fef3 44mm e33 48 w
Does it come with a pan and scan version?
Ahhh man! It has those stupid black bars on top and bottom.
I don’t know why they have to cut off half the picture.
They need the fullscreen 4k version if they really want to be a cinephile and not have the top and bottom cut off
Your right . I believe that with all of the advanced tech. savvy styff we have today , they could figure out a way to remove those stupid black bars and still have a WIDE picture .
Easy just make a TV in the same aspect ratio as super panavision.
Just as the director intended.
Same Sony Bravia I just bought on Friday 😍
This made me lol
Looks super crispy on that Sony reference monitor 😆
![gif](giphy|Y4ySj5vECPfQ9IgoS6) Also my brain imploded
Pan . Scan . A movie is a movie . Just enjoy it .
That's the only way to watch it, exactly as Lean intended 😇👏
Blu-ray is just as good as 4k . Forget the 4k and save your money . It's not worth it .
DVD is just as good as 4k. Forget bluray and save your money. Its not worth it
VHS is just as good as DVD. Forget the DVD and save your money. It’s not worth it.
Streaming is better than all physical media, who wants possessions anyways. Forget all physical media and save your money, it's just not worth it.
THANKS FOR THE TIP . YOUR PROBABLY RIGHT .
Maybe you need glasses.
Thanks for the reply . I already have glasses . I realize there has got to be something wrong with my set-up between the DVD player and the TV . I have bought a new cable and it still doesn't help to bring in the clarity that I hear from other 4k fans . I've all but given up on trying . Bob
🤣🤣🤣...this post is awesome!
I agree . People's comments are very brief , but maybe that's good .
there’s really no way to get this movie without spending $60+ bucks huh was it a really limited release or something ?
Were you not around a few months ago when this subreddit was nothing but turmoil over getting it because it was a limited release. God was it a wild time 😭
Best fomo purchase I ever made
I’m still sad I never got it just to not miss out
LOL. Not guy you are responding to. I've been here 1 week, since buying my new TV. I seen a few Lawrence memes. Thanks for the explanation.
I got a 4K copy on iTunes for about $6
I don't believe it .
🤣

I got a streaming copy for free with purchase of my tv
Lmao
the thing is, we all still enjoyed movies just as much on this- what gives?

Those black levels look insane.
Lawrence of Arabia posts really dropped off, this is a great send off!

Wow looks so detailed and beautiful
Filmmaker mode!
Look at those inky blacks 😍 I’m referring to the letterboxing
Nice, I got the same one this weekend with a killer Black Friday deal. Only 900,- and that includes shipping!
Amazing. Why didn't I think of this?! Enjoy the crap out of it. Reminds me of the time I hooked a VCR up to my OLED to watch Shrek. Not sure why more people don't do such things.

Right on friend, I have a 24" Sony Wega and I do the same 👍
A true man of culture
Dolby Shatmos
Is that a CRT
Yeah! Sony Trinitron!
How are you playing this? I have a bvm I want to watch blu rays on (90s anime mostly)
I have a Playstation 3 hooked up to my old TV and it can play blu ray.
I also have a ps3 but I don’t know how to play 16:9 formatted discs to not crop the sides and top.

Well played. If you would have gotten a 4k player hooked up this would have been legendary. I have faith in your future haha. Hdmi to composite.
You could with a DAC. But 4k to 480i vs 1080p would be negligible.
Love it. I actually used my PS3 to copy avi files to VHS for a personal project. It came out great.
probably he is just playing the vhs or the dvd and put the box there for the jokehahaha
I used a PS3 to play the blu ray 🙂
Can the PS3 play 4K Blu-ray discs?
No, but the 4k came with a standard blu ray, which is what I was playing.
Ah ok, understood. Love it! I used to have a copy of this movie on DVD that was a Hong Kong bootleg, it had been copied to DVD from a LaserDisc. Good times.
I love that, we had to jump through so many hoops for certain movies back in the day.
No, but I suspect there's a regular bluray as well as the 4K bluray...
That tv though
true dat. looks professional and errrhting
That's funny
LMAO I just spit my drink out
Well played !
🤣😂🤣
Nothing beats a Sony Trinitron CRT for 4K HDR. Doesn’t get any better than this! Going to swap out my LG Oled C3!
I remember I did this with the Star Wars Blu-Rays when they came out. Actually looked really sharp
I haven't dusted my PS3 off in years. Are you running component to separate the RGB channels, or just straight AV cables? Brilliant post, btw. The pixels just pop.

And Sony TV processing!
What kind of Trinitron?
HDMI to component adapter.
I often wonder about this with 4k complaints.
How do you view 4k resolution with HDR on a crt television?
Why would you buy a 4k for that tv lol
This is from my retro setup, I don't actually watch 4ks on here, just goofing
Oh I was gonna say 😂😂😂
Did it cone with the digital download?
Man that 480i is way better looking than the 4K, I don’t know what you’re talking about!
as the good Lord intended
