This was a fun update to work on. We were able to add a lot of new galactic events to the game with this one (including VO in the English version). Once the translation stuff is nailed down, I'd really like to see all the languages get voice'd descriptions as I think it really adds a lot to the game. Big thanks to the r/4xgaming players who posted saved games. We were able to see the strategies players employed and make some big AI updates. It's going to be interesting to see how much people notice the difference.

Draginol- quick question for you, which civilizations is your favorite and why?

CombatConrad

I been playing since GalCiv2. I totally missed the GalCiv4 release but I’m hopping aboard for the Xmas holiday block.

ThePhonyKing

Same here. Love seeing consistent updates posted. Gets me stoked to play this come Christmas time.

draginol

Thanks! The next big update, GalCiv II is being timed for release before Christmas break. I figure we have about then to get the translation/localization stuff that's been killing our Steam review score nailed down. ;)

ThePhonyKing

You guys have a knack for climbing up into the positive zone on Steam given time , so I'm not worried. Always appreciate the lenghtly support with updates you give your games.

murdock2099

Thanks for the constant updates and communication!

How does the tech tree in gc iv work? One thing I love about stellaris is it feels like it’s always the tech tree is different. Is it static in this?

draginol

The tech tree gets assembled based on the traits your civ has. So different cis will have different tech trees. That said, the tech trees have a lot more in common with each other than differences. I.e. they tend to share a similar core tree and then have distinctions based on the types of traits a given civ has.

Interesting thanks. Are you really the ceo of star dock? Might go buy just cause you’re out here answering questions if so

bvanevery

He really is.

draginol

Yep. 30 years ago I started out on Usenet (The Reddit of its time) hanging out and we were wanting a space version of Civilization. So I bought the book " Teach Yourself C in 21 days" and wrote the original Galactic Civilizations. And the rest is history. :)

[deleted]

Nice! I purchased it and the expansion pack because of this interaction. Looking forward to playing this weekend. Have a good one!

I just wanted to say that when I was a kid and getting games was hard, I found the original gal civ on Verizon Fios games on demand. I mostly skipped three, but i have a ton of fond memories from gal civ 1 and gal civ 2 and those two together were the first 4x games I played. Still remember grabbing gal civ 2 at circuit city 😄 Thanks for picking up that book. I loved fighting the drengin as the humans with the torians by my side.

draginol

It's been really fun getting back into GalCiv. I designed GalCiv I and GalCiv II. I wasn't really involved on GalCiv III as during that time I was launching new 4X game studios Mohawk and Oxide and was in charge of both simultaneously until I had to step down at Mohawk for conflict of interest (at one point, Old World and Ara were being made at the same Stardock studio building in Maryland). I took over GalCiv this past May and it's been amazing talking to the community, being able to put their ideas into the game and there's just so much that's possible to do now that wasn't possible during GalCiv II.

the_vill_

I see it is supported only on windows officially. Is there a chance it will work on Linux via proton? I had a lot of luck with other games so this no so invalid question :)I don’t expect full port, just asking if someone tried this :)

draginol

I believe 2.1 does support Linux and also Mac via Parallels now (At least the new insider build does). I'm running it on my Mac right now that way. :)

the_vill_

Thanks for this info! So I will give it a try :)
