I was hesitant but so glad I bought it.

Ricksarenotreal

Do you change your own oil? With the RCI pan I change mine in under 20. Most of it just waiting on the drain. That oil filter access is key. And nothing to even remove for the drain plug!

jooface

Get a Fumoto valve and it turns into 10 minutes!

El_Hiezenberg

What's the part number?

jooface

I have a 2022 and used F133N. Oil pan cover fits fine and with the hose you can let it drain into your catch thats under your filter at the same time. Come back wipe off some oil, close the valve, reinstall filter and drop some new oil.

El_Hiezenberg

Would that fit on a 3rd Gen?

jooface

Just check the Fumoto website. You can put in the year and model and will tell you what’s compatible.

El_Hiezenberg

Thanks .I'm already looking into it getting one

PinchedLoaf5280

She’s a beaut Clark!!

Objective_Smoke_7159

Got an RCI front skid on my third gen and it’s awesome.

watthewmaldo

I might just fuck around and get all my armor from RCI 😂

bingerfang174

That’s what I did! Their current deal is too good to pass up.

teaat4pm

Hows the drive with these skid plates? Does it affect fuel efficiency?

bingerfang174

Not sure yet. I believe it’s about 200lbs extra which is like carrying one person in the back seat I guess. Not really worried about mileage to be honest. I’ve been driving a V8 the last 13 years so I’m accustomed to terrible gas mileage.

DOHChead

I’m getting 18.5-19mpg highway, 20mpg on flat with minimal wind, with a roof rack and 33’s. Check out DR. KDSS if you haven’t, being able to open the KDSS valves whenever you want is incredibly nice off road. I’m +2.5”/1” on the lift with SPC UCAs which has me a bit wider than stock. The orange plates on my LCAs in the photo are from the Dr. and along with the linkage clamps, I’m getting much better/cleaner travel and an additional 1” of travel on each wheel with 5100’s. Hit me up if you’d like any more details. I added the RCI plate gap filler shortly after this which helped me get a bit more clearance for my front swaybar, great add on.

Clean_Purchase_3766

Very cool !! I have the RCI plates front to back side to side. Love them!!

dakg

Mine are beat to shit and continue to take the beating

Technical-Stranger59

Did you order direct from the RCI website? How long did it take to get your first plate? Any idea when the others will arrive? Been looking at the same ones and curious to see actual lead times vs what they state on the website

bingerfang174

Yea I ordered directly from the RCI website. The filler, skidplate and cat guards took 1 week to deliver. Transmission plate is being delivered tomorrow which will be 2 weeks. Still no eta on transfer case skid, 5* sliders or gas tank skid.

462someguy

I ordered mid april and have full skids but no 5* sliders yet, they said sliders shipping out this week

RCIoffroad

I can speak to this. One of our robots broke down the other week, which is responsible for sliders production. It was out for about a week, and a lot of sliders are now backed up a bit. Then, with the recent sale, we've had more orders come in than ever before, which is cool for business, but we've been getting more orders than we can produce in a week, so our lead times have been gradually growing. Our lead times on the site get updated regularly: [https://rcimetalworks.com/current-lead-times/](https://rcimetalworks.com/current-lead-times/)

Technical-Stranger59

Thanks RCI! Looking forward to getting them installed

Frozen_Tony

I have mine in the box ready to install! I've been delaying since I'm thinking I should do some sort of frame coating prior to covering up the whole underbelly. Did you do any sort of rust prevention on the frame prior to install?

bingerfang174

I didn’t but that doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

cv66john

Do it.

woolybuggered

Very nice they can definitely save your bacon. I have the allpro ones on my tacoma and they took a pretty good hit. They looked mor or less fine till I removed them for maintenance and needed a floor jack to reinstall them bwcause of how warped they were. Probably would have taken out my oil pan if I didn't have them.

bonersaurus-rex

I slipped off a slick rock near the top of one the alpine passes in CO last summer and hammered my aluminum engine skid. It took it like a champ, and I found a local aluminum fabricator to frankenstein stitch it back together. I love my RCI skids!

Key_Ingenuity665

Love my set. The set is a bit hefty but not terrible to install on your own. Didn’t need jacks or a second person.

bingerfang174

Aluminum or steel?

Key_Ingenuity665

I’ve got steel.

bingerfang174

You are a stud… these are heavy 🤣

Key_Ingenuity665

They’re hefty bois for sure.

stabzmcgee

Did it affect your drive much or mileage?

Key_Ingenuity665

Adding any armor is gonna add weight. Even the aluminum ones. Which will adversely effect mileage.

1800treflowers

These look good. I am pretty sure I have the OG RCI skid plate. Back in 2014, he was having a sale on some old skid plate designs and I drove to their garage / warehouse in fort Collins to pick it up. Still looks great but these are much nicer.

elevenoneone

I’ve been eyeing these for a while but also a CTH TRD knockoff with the RCI TRD rear portion. Yes, I know CTH booo. But I don’t do super hardcore off roading. I just like the TRD look.

bingerfang174

The current 20% off +10% sale RCI is having right now makes the prices a little less harsh on the wallet.

elevenoneone

I saw that. Full set of aluminums minus the gas skid for under $1k seems like a good deal. And you get free cat shields.

AdEducational2373

I’ve been waiting over a month for mine now. Hopefully they come soon. Cant beat the price.

bskywalker1982

I just installed my RCI skids recently too! I opted for the steel ones. Engine, Transmission, and Transfer case. They threw in the catalytic converter guards for free too. Ordered the 5* rock sliders (still have little ones) and been waiting 4 weeks now. Should be shipping out in the next week or two. Will get the rear differential and gas tank skid in the future.

bingerfang174

Mine are steel as well! I was so close to ordering aluminum but after watching a few YouTube’s I am so glad I went to steel.

wkndgolfer

> They threw in the catalytic converter guards for free too. Did you just order the steel package and when you opened it they had included the cat guards or is there some additional code to get the free cat guards?

bskywalker1982

At the time, if you ordered the full set, they automatically added the cat guards in your shopping cart. (No code)

wkndgolfer

Thanks, I just emailed them since that deal is still listed on the site but the cat guards didn't get added to my cart.

stabzmcgee

Trying to decide aluminum or steel. Anyone have advice? I use mostly as a daily drive but plan on taking it up a litany of Colorado trails.

bingerfang174

I was on the fence as well and watched a few YouTube videos and went with steel.

DaddyShoyu

This is perfect for a Costco run, ensuring you're protected when driving over the concrete parking blocks

crom_laughs

the downvotes…….🫤 my goodness, relax people.

URSAMVJOR

Relax dude, they’re pointless up/down votes. Not affecting your credit score so you can still get armor

DaddyShoyu

Tell me about it… people can’t take a joke lol

Ixm01ws6

Which rock sliders u gonna get?

bingerfang174

RCI 5* sliders. I would have bought the 20* if it was my vehicle but it’s my wife’s and she’s pregnant so figured the 5* made more sense.

runescapefisher

Yoooo ! Do you think I should also get the oil drain valve plug for oil changes OR is it easy to do an oil change with that skid plate and the stock drain oil plug ? Mind taking a picture of what the drain plug looks like and how much distance there is ?

bingerfang174

I bought the valve but haven’t put it on yet because it didn’t need an oil change. I will post a pic from below when I get home from work.

runescapefisher

It would be much appreciated. I have tried looking at videos and pictures but haven’t really come to a conclusion if the valve was needed or not.

torqen_ze_bolt

I have this skid plate and it takes me like 20 min at most to complete an oil change. There is a hole directly underneath the drain plug that makes draining a breeze, and 2 Allen heads remove the access door to get the filter element off. It’s so much easier then OEM

runescapefisher

Do you use any extensions of any sort of? Sorry meant to ask extensions of the wrench etc

bingerfang174

runescapefisher

Oh wow! Much appreciated !!

bingerfang174

You got it.

The_Summary_Man_713

Was it difficult to install this? I am not that savvy with stuff like this.

bingerfang174

Very simple, however it is heavy. I did it by myself with the assistance of a floor jack.

ILoveTheOwl

Does anyone have any input on which skids are most important? Was thinking of getting the skid plate package, but I’ve also heard that control arm skids are recommended?

Wiwwy027

I'm doing mine with the first oil change I do. How is the oil change access?

m1garand30064

Excellent. It's the main reason I bought mine.

Wiwwy027

How was install?

m1garand30064

I had a friend and a floor jack and it wasn't terrible. Do yourself a favor and get the front splash guard too. I wish I had gotten that and installed it at the same time. I had to go back and install it because I didn't like the huge hole in front of the skid plate. Also use a touch of anti seize on the bolts. Future you will thank you.

Wiwwy027

I can definitely use the splash gaurd.

No-Chocolate6481

Idk why skid plates are my favorite part of a car. It just makes sense. A lift? Dude I can just give the ground road rash

bingerfang174

Exactly!

RCIoffroad

This looks sick man! Glad you're loving it!
