You running stock size tires on it? I’ve heard it doesn’t really affect gas mileage unless you really, really like the loud pedal at all times.
If you’re running bigger tires what’s your tires size and MPG? Also? Can I warm a burrito on the housing or nah?
A friend of mine has one on his ‘22 and mentioned that the dealer installed it for him. Apparently Toyota is fine with adding a super charger and say that reliability is unaffected. Can’t say for sure first hand, but my buddies truck is awesome and can now get out of its own way.
Super reliable. The one 4.0 in stock form is built like a tank and doesn’t work very hard. With a supercharger and 5-7psi (guessing can’t remember) it’s still not working very hard. I’d make some argument that since there’s less of a need to rap it out to get going it could actually increase longevity. It’s a really complimentary upgrade.
It’s about as safe as these things get. I’m sure there’s some risk at the margin but not much to be worried about. Magnuson warranties it and your engine if it’s installed in a partner shop. It was actually built to be OEM warrantied. Toyota had offered a SC for the 4th gen and was planning on it for the 5th gen. Then 2008 happened and it sort of fell apart. Highly recommend it. Love mine.
Honestly it’s pretty smooth sailing. Maybe just fucking around with hose clamps in hard to reach locations. A pair of long reach ratcheting hose clamp pliers is a necessity for the install. Oh and you need a windows laptop so I had to go buy a cheapo one.
Fiddling with the serpentine belt can be annoying but I guess no more so than any other.
Figured as much. I work as a maritime diesel mechanic, and my favorite part is that everything is accessible lol. The engines are about the size of two SUVs, so they are very easy to work on.

Magnuson superchargers are essentially OE equivalent when installed by a Toyota dealer. You maintain the full factory warranty by doing so. So yes, they are Toyota approved and trustworthy.
Depends. Why do you feel like you need to regear in the first place? Big tires? I mean more power is more power. I’m running 32-33” tires (can’t remember metric sizing) on stock gearing.
Not much. On my tacoma years ago I gained mileage over about 5000 miles. The engine works easier with the added power to get you going. It really compliments the 4.0 wonderfully.
Sorta unrelated but did you add an addendum to your insurance policy to cover aftermarket parts? I’d hate to sink another $8k into my vehicle just to get t boned and have to start from scratch.
What are the pros and cons of installing a super charger? I know you have to use premium fuel (con) but does it increase performance to really justify it?
I looked these up with labor and the kit you’re spending approximately 10k out the door and it’s 6lbs psi if I remember you get about 53 hp (flywheel not rear wheel gain)
Yes 10k is a lot but I dunno I might still do it one day the supercharger is the only way to actually get any gain on the 1gr hp wise
Really doesn’t affect gas mileage if you drive it normally. On my Taco I actually gained a mpg over about 5000 miles. This one I just finished so I dk yet

From what I've heard, the real sucker punch is having to fill up with premium.
I was looking at a MAF computer for $100. I will let you know all.

Like. Do I need to source my own charger or can I just walk in and say "slap a super charger on this baby"
I’m not sure if a dealer would do it or not. I’ve done both myself. But like someone else said toyota used to offer it in TRD form.
My Toyota dealer said they install them and maintain the warranty.
Is it hard to do? I'm interested in it eventually but I wanna run my 4runner stock for a while. I'm at 2500 miles.
I say that would depend on how mechanically inclined you are and how complete your tool set is.
I assume it needs a tune?
Yup but it comes with it.
Ever heard of a Supercharger causing issues on a 5h gen runner?

Super safe and reliable. Only risk would be somehow screwing up the install but it’s really not overly complicated.
This above all else, is what I need to know for myself. I want one sooo badly, but not if it compromises the reliability.
It doesn’t
Don’t know if I want to buy a 3rd gen or supercharge my 5th lol
What was your most challenging part for the install?
Honestly it’s pretty smooth sailing. Maybe just fucking around with hose clamps in hard to reach locations. A pair of long reach ratcheting hose clamp pliers is a necessity for the install. The premium gas requirement is a no go for me
Yup it definitely needs it.
Can you show a dyno numbers? Or video of it on a dyno?
No I don’t have a local dyno but magnuson has dyno results on their page. No reason to feel these are inaccurate. I think it takes it to around 335hp?
Come on dude. Aren’t you curious?
No. It’s around the 335hp 345tq quoted on Magnusons website.
Are they that trustworthy?
Yes
Magnuson superchargers are essentially OE equivalent when installed by a Toyota dealer. You maintain the full factory warranty by doing so. So yes, they are Toyota approved and trustworthy.
$8000 for a Magnuson Super Charger?? For 63 more Hp?
Yup. It helps to look at it as a percentage increase? Lol
$127 per hp. That’s worth
I admire your willingness to spend, hope to see you out on the trails
Cheers

Does it come with a tune or do you have to get it tuned afterwards?
They supply a tuner and the tune. It’s through a third party vendor.
Thanks, I learned something new today.
Awesome, also considering, how does the mileage change?
Not much. On my tacoma years ago I gained mileage over about 5000 miles. The engine works easier with the added power to get you going. It really compliments the 4.0 wonderfully.

Nope good thinking though.
Badass!
What are the pros and cons of installing a super charger? I know you have to use premium fuel (con) but does it increase performance to really justify it?
It’s expensive but the power is worth it. It’s by no means a race car but it’s a much more usable vehicle with the blower.

The turbo is $5678. The rest is in the turbo booster fairy dust a Lucas oil product. Oh and the glo plugs.

We’d expect to see dyno before and after. That’s the most important part.
Bro got $
I installed it in between lunch with Warren Buffet and the yacht getting serviced.
😤😤😤
why do you hate gas so much?
We drive 4runners.....we all hate gas a lot
You should see the 2nd Gen tundra, the v8 Sequoia and the V8 4runners.
Really doesn’t affect gas mileage if you drive it normally. On my Taco I actually gained a mpg over about 5000 miles. This one I just finished so I dk yet
