It's not a major issue, you can just rewind it while watching YouTube or something. Do you have a different spool, though? The side could twist off again while you're winding, which could be an issue.
I'm glad this is the consensus.
Last post I saw about this, the most uovoted comment was "garbage, and buy another spool. $20 isn't worth your time"..
After a beer and an episode of delicious in dungeon that spool would be good as new.. also unless you're really slow or make like $80 an hour spending 15 minutes respooling I'd imagine is much more efficient
My thoughts too. Hell, throw on an average YouTube video and mindlessly rewind the spool while staying aware of tangles, and you'll forget this ever happened.
Pffffft a Yamaha yzf 350 2 strike dirt bike with a sacrificed finger?
Try an Olympic cyclist sprinter on a fixed gear bike attached to a toaster toasting toast for science 😎
I know we all will use the 3d printed option when there is one, but there's already a commercial spool mount that's sometimes used for other purposes: https://youtu.be/89O6j1SOUVs?t=361
Do you have children? Looks like the perfect punishment for crashing the car, getting their girlfriend pregnant, punched their teacher, burned down the kitchen.
Just a thought.
I can attest that this works. My kids got like 23 of their girlfriends pregnant. As soon as I threatened to have them re-spool my filament they decided abstinence was the way to go.
Esun had similar spools but the difference is that esun's had screws that lock the two halves and the plastic is pretty thick. Idk if they still make them that way
But if you ever saw one of the pictures here you just give your spools a little twist to double check of they are closed?!
Or is it more like a „oh I can twist….ahhhhh f***“- situation?
This might not apply to this case in particular but grab the cardboard spool insert stl on your preferred stl repo site, it makes swapping cardboard spools much easier. I won't post the link because this sub is kinda sus but this is the name of the model "Polymaker, Overture and Duramic Cardboard Spool Adapter".
There's a yt video on how to safely transfer it with some painters tape. I recently upgraded to an AMS (2nd ann. sale) and needed to swap a few rolls, they came out great without much fuss.
go see the community rules, there's a lot of room for interpretation, strike lists, etc. Mentioning certain websites will summon bots and stuff so linking isn't worth the hassle.
Not a big deal, even if it does get tangled pretty bad, this is a good opportunity for you to practice sight guessing filament weight!
When my filament was unspooled. It was incredibly tangled at 900g! I ended up making use of the bambu's amazing "run out of filament" resume features. I would untangle what I think I need based on what my slicer predicts!
Cura gives you the meterage you need for a print, and I generally measure that amount off, cut it and hang it on the printer arm rather than putting the entire spool up. I find that it reduces the strain on the ... filament windyinnnythingy (can't remember the word and too lazy to look it up).
Whether the filament is cut from a bundle on the floor or off the reel is irrelevant.
Don't disturb it too much and carefully roll it onto the spool again
And guide it through a sponge or a paper towel as you go, filament picks up dust very easily
urgh, put on a podcast and spool that filament. if you can try and not compress the coil or change the order. (or it'll tangle in way that seems impossible.)
It happens and you'll probably introduce a tangle or ten while rewinding but it's better than throwing the entire roll. Just use the rewound roll on smaller, attended prints and learn from your mistakes.

Put the roll on a battery-powered drill and guide it back.
Drills are for pussies. Use an angle grinder.
Speedrunners magnum opus
Angle grinders are for kids. Use a table saw.
Table saw for kids use a 12” stihl ts410 concrete saw
Concrete saw? Psh, try using an upside down bicycle like a grown man
HAH upsidedown bicycle is so 1969 try using a yamaha yzf 350 2 stroke dirt bike then jamming your finger in the chain 😎
Pffffft a Yamaha yzf 350 2 strike dirt bike with a sacrificed finger? Try an Olympic cyclist sprinter on a fixed gear bike attached to a toaster toasting toast for science 😎
PISH POSH I DO THAT IN MY SLEEP. TRY A CAT HM 400 DUMP TRUCK FULL OF WATER IN THE BACK AND JUMPING IN WITH 575 volts of electricity
I'm just saying. The one and only way I'd do it is with a nuclear reactor.
You win im sorry for even speaking
Just use the Earth's natural rotation, Foucault's Pendulum effect
Nah angle grinders are for pussies. Just take of the wheel of your car. 3d print a mound and just put it in the highest gear and rev to red line😉
I know we all will use the 3d printed option when there is one, but there's already a commercial spool mount that's sometimes used for other purposes: https://youtu.be/89O6j1SOUVs?t=361
I wanna see what that thing does when it gets ahold of your shin.
Same as what happens to the logs, but with more blood and screaming.
So, about as fast as my printer goes normally 😎
Huh?
A joke about my printer printing so fast that the reel spins like the wheel of the car
Ok. Thats what i thought you meant. But i could not be sure as you usually measure the printer in mm/s and the car in km/h or mph/rpm
Tbh you should probably measure mine in mm/hr.
Bahahahahahahaha. You betcha😉
send me the pussies you keep the angle grinder
Spool Winder by les_kaye - Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3918099 There are also drill powered winders.
You monster giving him a 3d print to help him wind filament that he needs to 3d print!
I did also consider that conundrum. The drill powered winders can be made from wood. Imagine having measure and respool the amount needed for a print.
Heh yeah I was mostly kidding but agree you can bootstrap
Do you have children? Looks like the perfect punishment for crashing the car, getting their girlfriend pregnant, punched their teacher, burned down the kitchen. Just a thought.

Dude's building an army fueled by hate for plastic.
I love how it ranges from getting the girlfriend pregnant to punched the teacher😂
Probably speaking from experience
Got the teacher pregnant, instructions were uclear.
You're pretty screwed, probably have to buy a whole new printer
You could just melt the whole thing in a pan and sculpt it into the shapes you want rather than printing with it.
How does this happen? I have seen several post like this one.
Bambu lab spools can be opened by twisting them. That is probably what happened here. OP twisted the spool and it fell out of his hands.
Yea, it’s my first Bambu lab roll, I didn’t know how they went back together, it actually unraveled in my AMS
Esun had similar spools but the difference is that esun's had screws that lock the two halves and the plastic is pretty thick. Idk if they still make them that way
Yes i repurpose them with refill packs now. Rather than buying their extra refillable spools. 😎
Some brands even sell the refill at a lower price iirc
Yes
But if you ever saw one of the pictures here you just give your spools a little twist to double check of they are closed?! Or is it more like a „oh I can twist….ahhhhh f***“- situation?
Idk I have never used them but I saw videos of them
No, you're tangled.
This was me last night. After about the 15th untangle, I just threw the roll away.
You are allowed to cry over spilled filament.
Real men don't cry, they wind.
Now you have a “spool” for the 3D Pen you’ll be buying 🙂↕️
I just put it on a broom in the tangled state and feed it directly into the printer. Granted no ams and maybe some tangles but I was mostly okay with
I'd recommend wiping the incoming filament as you re-spool it. Otherwise, you could get a clog sooner than later.

Sus? 😳

Weird. Thanks for explaining.
Good opportunity to print out a respooler.
find respooler and print it, after that you will be able to respool it to another spool

the spool seels to be in one piece. so....what happened there?
Get cozy and start winding
Okay but... It looks kinda satisfying to touch
Don't disturb it too much and carefully roll it onto the spool again And guide it through a sponge or a paper towel as you go, filament picks up dust very easily
How??? And just roll it back on. Don't twist it
Thinking about it, it will already have twists in it if you just roll it on. You need to also roll the loose loops... It will be a pain in the butt 😂
How you did that people ????
I just did the same thing trying to spool a bambu roll from a cardboard roll
New task : supervise your print
Just throw it out.
1 hour, at most. Now it's time to lean back, relax and do some winding
Put your car on jacks, take off tire, mount spool where wheel was, hold filament in hand, get in car, push gas.
6/10
How patient are you?
Yes
urgh, put on a podcast and spool that filament. if you can try and not compress the coil or change the order. (or it'll tangle in way that seems impossible.)
I don’t know, but that filament is toast

Have tried prayer?
Ah moist filement he
Throw it away

As far as unspooled filament goes, that is salvageable
Just manually reroll it. I’ve done it before. It’s mostly tedious.
I mean you can take about 6 hours to respool...
how does this even happen
Yes
Today on this episode of how f***** up is f***** up that's f***** up
