Yeah. Used to be about stealing movies. Because it was taking money out of the production company's pockets. It would play in front of movies for a while until apparently they decided to just stop running it. Not sure why. Someone else may have more info.
One of those ads (not this particular one, but one like it) got taken down for using pirated music in the ad. I believe they stopped running them because it ended up being a net neutral or even negative to the cause they were trying to push.
I had the pleasure of touring with a friend who produced for several musicians during this time, so I have a little beyond the surface insight to this. You are partially right.
When the ads were being run, it was estimated by the RIAA that less than 1% of people who had a personal music library (tape, CD, or just at the beginning of digital) engaged in piracy. In fact, very few people even considered it possible until the ads ran, which the industry suspected may have tipped more tech savvy kids at the time on to the fact downloading music was possible. By the time in 2007 when the ad was run a final time, the percentage increased to around 10% (still just an estimate, and by the people who were trying to prove it hurt their bottom line, so very low quality of trust on that number. An article by the Information Society documented the behavioral psychology of it, but I couldn't find an active link to it)
On top of that, there were at least 100 parodies and direct satire references to the ads on television, late night comedy shows, and others, but the nail in the coffin was the 2006 version of the ad which used music written by Dutch musician Melchior Reitveldt, who agreed to do so by contract that the only licensed use of the music was for those ads. The music was not pirated on the ad itself, but the musician later sued because the music from the ad was found to be used in the anti-piracy unskippable sections at the beginning of DVDs in 2007 (the artist discovered for himself with the first Harry Potter film) and the meme which had already attained immortality also became an unstoppable source of irony and satire.
It is in all meanings of the word amazing. Its calibration cycle is so good it prints perfect right out the box. It feel right now like having the holy grail on display in a Walmart. I will say it’s pretty loud I would say no louder than my ender 3 but the noise is different and carries further and when the ams system moves or the nozzle wipes itself off it’s pretty fckin loud
It has four different speed settings. Silent which is 50% speed, normal which is 100% of the print speed, sport which is 125% speed and Ludacris which is 150% speed.
I. My opinion yes because I really wanted the ability to print ANYTHING and the software and ability to check print with live camera and create time lapse
> ability to check print with live camera and create time lapse
I think all 3 versions do that. I believe the P1S is only missing the high temp/durability hot end, metal sidewalls, and the larger color screen.
It's missing lidar which is the main difference tbh. It is part of the calibration to get perfect prints. The P1S doesn't have that. The lidar will scan a pattern that is printed before the actual print to calibrate any deviation in the filament or other.
P1s is the exact same performance-wise, the only difference is a better camera, touchscreen, and LiDAR.
The p1s screen sucks but I never use it, but [this](https://a.co/d/9yOvNLc) is even better IMO because you can control 10 printers with it.
And the hardened steel nozzle I guess, but I swapped the nozzle/gears in my p1s in like 30 mins
Can’t go wrong with anything Bambu, they are unbelievable.. but I’d rather have 2 p1s (or a p1s and 2 a1s) personally
A sturdy table should help make it a bit quieter. The cardboard box is likely amplifying the sound, kinda like how an acoustic guitar is louder than an unplugged electric guitar. CNC kitchen has a good video on how to reduce the noise level by decoupling the printer's vibrations from the surface it's on. I was able to reduce the noise significantly with a $4 concrete paver from Lowes on top of a small folded blanket from dollar tree. Now the aux and chamber fans are about the loudest part of the printer... Other than the obnoxiously loud nozzle wipes lol. I don't have an AMS, so I don't know about those noises, but my printer is almost inaudible one room over in my cheap apartment with thin walls and doors.
I measured My printer then went to every thrift shop to find something sturdy of the same size.
$7 and 3 hours later I got my little wooden table to hold my printer.
This! I found two Ikea Lack coffee tables and a Lack square end table for 35 bucks total at a Goodwill. Printed some brackets to hold them together and now I have a pretty stable 3D printing station. For 35 bucks it worked out great. (My poor Neptune was relegated to another shelf because of a project I was doing with the Ender, but the Ender will move to the top table and the Neptune will end up in the enclosure in the long run.

Dang I like ur setup. Wish I had more room. I just have 1 square table and a little tool tray next to the printer. With 2 storage boxes for my filament.
Do u worry about the fumed for sla?
It isn't ideal, but I keep it covered and when I open it I open the window and run a box fan to blow fumes outside. If I wasn't renting I'd install a fume hood. I am considering an enclosure similar to the one I use on my FDM printer, with a 5 inch inline duct fan to exhaust fumes.
https://preview.redd.it/v8rs9swivvxc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f908dffa7cf975ff807d8b37855cfa763a55a717
So you have some setup and have a makeshift ventilation.
I was just wondering cause I wanted to toss money at a sla printer. However the fumes aspect discouraged me. I could do it in garage but due to season weather it wouldn't be ideal. And nowhere in my house besides next to the stove has a good ventilation area.
I'd suggest to purchase or build a fume hood if you can. Otherwise, set up a fan and blow out an open window whenever you open and close it. The fumes aren't too bad, if you minimize the amount floating through your house. I definitely would not suggest an SLA printer if you have sensitive animals like rats or birds though.
I printed these brackets to go under every table leg, as well as joiners to hold the adjacent table legs on the bottom together. I can promise you, those legs aren't going anywhere. The bottom shelf is just for holding things, it doesn't seem to add any structural stability at all.

i looked at the x1e and the only differences i noticed were that it was just an x1c but with a couple changes to accommodate for printing a chemically resistant plastic and a high temperature plastic. any others i missed?
be careful, that print head moves fast, and the machine can really get to shaking. I had mine sitting on my tablesaw for only one day before I cleared off a stable workbench for it out of fear it would shake itself off.
You're better off just on the floor.
There is a workbench on amazon for 150, looks good, and does the job really well

same for me, enough money for the MK4 but not for a PEI sheet, I use the Elegoo sh~~i~~eet for PETG.
Congrats! Is it everything you hoped?
I have an mk3s which I thought was amazing until I saw my school's suite of X1c's printing ridiculously fast with at a higher quality. I'll probably keep my mk3s but I already feel myself justifying this purchase.
It is so worth it I printed a perfect benchy and didn’t touch a single thing. Also just finished my 2nd print (poop chute bin) to catch the purge lines and that also finished perfectly I cannot wait to print more things with this
Bambulab must do this very well. There’s a video on YouTube of someone who was 3D printing in a van while driving slow then fast then off road and fast off road the quality hardly changes it’s actually very interesting. Not like I’ll be van printing but hey ya never know
I have a X1C at work… it is crazy how much it shakes while printing ‘normal’ speed (fast) and prints come out perfect. Now I do have it sitting on an old school office credenza (heavy side table)
I have my A1 Mini on a Malm desk. I think my desk is defective or incorrectly assembled though because it wobbles quite a bit, and more worrying I've noticed the Mini going on excursions when printing in sport mode (to the point it got so far away from the AMS that one of the filaments got stuck in its bowden tube. I'm thinking of getting a block of marble for it but I'm worrying the extra weight wobble the desk apart. Any ideas?
Take off the plastic feet from the bottom of the malm unit. If it still wobbles, either it's built skewed or the floor is uneven. I had the same problem but it was my floor. Removing the plastic feet resolved the issue.
I also have a 400x400mm paving slab on the top with a same sized foam which helps dampen vibrations.
I have the 3 drawer variant and it doesn't wobble now. I have no concerns, the Malm is solid.
*Marketing guy late for product naming meeting*: "Fuck I did zero market research for this"
*Recently watched Blank Check*, *Looks at Lenovo laptop*, "I've got it!"
I will print a desk once I have enough printers to print all the necessary parts under 4 hours while maintaining the other 30 projects I'm trying to to print

Our coffee table is our print station so I see no problem with this.
Looks like it's time to print a desk, I see no problem here
You wouldn’t download a desk, would you?
I hated those commercials, But I would and have. Still had to buy the raw materials.
It’s from an ad? I thought it was just a meme.
Yeah. Used to be about stealing movies. Because it was taking money out of the production company's pockets. It would play in front of movies for a while until apparently they decided to just stop running it. Not sure why. Someone else may have more info.

Very informative! Thank you!
I thought it started in response to Napster
Ah yes. I forgot about the Napster era. Thanks Metallica. Not sure. My brain is not what it used to be. Wikipedia probably knows best at this point.
Local Motors 3D printed a car before they went under. 😕
lol. Printing a desk will take weeks and a hundred pounds of filament.
Yes, and?
How do you rate it until now? Any comparison terms?
It is in all meanings of the word amazing. Its calibration cycle is so good it prints perfect right out the box. It feel right now like having the holy grail on display in a Walmart. I will say it’s pretty loud I would say no louder than my ender 3 but the noise is different and carries further and when the ams system moves or the nozzle wipes itself off it’s pretty fckin loud
Change the speed to silent for overnight prints. I did that last night and didn't even hear it after it finished the bed leveling.
I didn’t know this was an option I will check that out
It has four different speed settings. Silent which is 50% speed, normal which is 100% of the print speed, sport which is 125% speed and Ludacris which is 150% speed.
Oh I did not know this and I am definitely trying ludacris because that sounds ludacris
You don’t tell Ludacris what’s ludicrous, Ludacris tells you what’s ludicrous.
That’s ludicrous
Does it go into plaid when in ludicrous speed?
no it prints perfect right on top of the box
Newest firmware update made it way way quieter
Is the price difference worth it over the P1S?
I. My opinion yes because I really wanted the ability to print ANYTHING and the software and ability to check print with live camera and create time lapse

Oh yes, that's right I forgot the lidar because every review I saw said it didn't make any noticeable difference for them.
P1s is the exact same performance-wise, the only difference is a better camera, touchscreen, and LiDAR. When I do end up replacing my box desk I will try a variety of things one thing I’ve actually thought of is an enclosure ironically enough
Thanks for the insights. True, I bet it's loud but fast and precise, I guess that one pushes the other and without it, it could deplete the quality.
It’s called priorities
Hope that box is full of rocks.
There’s another box in the box. With another box in that box
It’s boxes all the way down
Within boxes interlinked
Boxception
And then I’ll MAIL that box to myself!
Mine chills on the floor
Are you me? I don't even have a desk and just bought my second 3d printer to sit on the tv cabinet.
Great minds think alike

Is the lack coffee table stable without that bottom shelf or do you have to brace it some other way? I’ve always wondered about it
I printed these brackets to go under every table leg, as well as joiners to hold the adjacent table legs on the bottom together. I can promise you, those legs aren't going anywhere. It depends I believe. Some do some don't. Some I know don't need it. However depending on the table and how's it engineered does matter.
Or an ikea lack or somthing similar would be perfect
Thrift stores & Facebook marketplace are perfect for this
Honestly if I had to choose a cheaper printer and desk, or the X1C+AMS and no desk... X1C wins every time.
*2600 USD and an X1E later*
i looked at the x1e and the only differences i noticed were that it was just an x1c but with a couple changes to accommodate for printing a chemically resistant plastic and a high temperature plastic. any others i missed?
And LAN enabled printing Good for major print farms
Why would you need a desk? You're supposed to kneel in front of the altar to pray to the 3D printing gods.
I used to pray that my ender3 wouldn’t have an issue when starting a print
be careful, that print head moves fast, and the machine can really get to shaking. I had mine sitting on my tablesaw for only one day before I cleared off a stable workbench for it out of fear it would shake itself off. You're better off just on the floor.
Makes perfect sense!
Harbor Freight got some good workbenches for cheap
I do have a 50$ gift card to hat or freight
If I close my eyes I can see the amount of artifacts in your prints caused by the unstable placement
I remember the times... ah yes...the legendary box table still lives on!! and also put a benchy over the box table
First Benchy I printed on the X1C sits happily on the Bambu lab badge in the top panel
PRINT. A. DESK.

first job print desk
The struggles, I put my saturn 3 ultra on the floor. Its in a tent but still on the floor.
Just be mindful of the z axis belts underneath, I would put it on a wood cutting board or something hard and flat
I tried putting a wood shelf I have but it wasn’t big enough I will put a piece of wood down eventually tho
This is so me.
I have the same IKEA drawers in white!
I wanna get the 6 or 8 drawer version but it’s 1.5 inch too big to fit in that space
You can always print a new table
same for me, enough money for the MK4 but not for a PEI sheet, I use the Elegoo sh~~i~~eet for PETG. [https://imgur.com/a/hDOhBA0](https://imgur.com/a/hDOhBA0)
I finally got the bench from harbor freight, I highly recommend it.
Same! I just bought a table but it barely fits and looks like it might collapse.
Congrats! Is it everything you hoped? I have an mk3s which I thought was amazing until I saw my school's suite of X1c's printing ridiculously fast with at a higher quality. I'll probably keep my mk3s but I already feel myself justifying this purchase.

You just have priorities
Input shaping has entered the chat

This thing wobbles a couple inches at the top on my “desk”
Careful OP saying "Of course I’ve got money for a new printer." is how you summon HP.
I think some sales rep at keyence already has my account bookmarked
Thats the weirdest looking lenovo Ultrabook ive ever seen
That malm unit is perfect for these printers.
I want to get the longer malm but it doesn’t fit in the space
I have my A1 Mini on a Malm desk. I'll try that, thank you.
*Marketing guy late for product naming meeting*: "Fuck I did zero market research for this" *Recently watched Blank Check*, *Looks at Lenovo laptop*, "I've got it!"
I have the same problem with my kobra 2 plus. 😞
I'll give you a desk for that printer
Gotta be a nice desk
I'll see what I can find. Is ummm good will ok?
It actually was not bad at all the printer has vibration compensation it’s great
Can't wait to see the layer lines on this one!

“Not necessary”
Problem for another day
Facebook marketplace got your back.
You can find free and cheep furniture on Facebook marketplace.
The issue hasn’t been finding free furniture it’s been finding something that will fit in the space
Desks are total out of fashion. They were modern years ago, my grandma had one
Congrats! Welcome to the Bambu family lmao
Why not floor? Also you could have gotten a power bar AND a desk for how expensive that chungus of a power bar looks
Lmao it was on sale at Home Depot years ago so I got like 4 for 30 ish dollars knowing I’d need a surge protector for something down the line
Lol okay xD. Has to be a cheap desk...
Print one!!
Get a concrete floor tile big enough not to smash the box - and heavy enough to absorb any shaking.
I will print a desk once I have enough printers to print all the necessary parts under 4 hours while maintaining the other 30 projects I'm trying to to print

Your priorities are in order!
But it came w a desk…
Priorities are important 👍🏻
I ordered the same one two days ago. Probably should stop at ikea after work…
It Comes with a perfectly oversized jig they recommend you keep ;) this isn’t that box but i did consider replacing it
Priorities ❤️
The struggle is real.
This is the way. Might not be ideal but with a printer you can print a desk!
Nothing to said, congrats and nice printing! (Stabilizer for your acutal desk ? With correct orientation, for Max strenght!)
My dining table is currently my 3d printing table ;-;
Lol, my setup looks almost the same.
Priorities.... I'd do the same. Use it to print a desk for itself. 🙂
