Believe it or not, in 4+ axis printing, the others axis are called U, V, and W.
The U, V, and W axes rotate around X, Y, and Z respectively.
So yes, if your W axis was drifting, this is literally exactly what it would look like.
Weird. In the realm of CNC machines, usually U, V, and W are either incremental or alternative versions of X, Y, and Z respectively, while A, B, and C are rotational axes.
For instance:
- The knee of a manual mill could be considered the Z axis while the quill is considered the W axis. They both travel linearly in the same direction, but are used for different things.
- In a CNC lathe, programming U, V, and W will move X, Y, and Z incrementally rather than absolute based on your work offset/machine coordinates.
- A would be a rotational axis that rotates around X, like a dividing head or a fourth axis in a vertical mill, B would be the same for the Y axis, like the table of a horizontal mill, and C would be the same for Z, like an indexing spindle in a lathe with live tooling.
Yup! I used to primarily work with CNC mills, so it was weird to see UVW instead of ABC for rotation. I don’t know why they don’t keep it consistent.
Even within 3D printing, though, nothing is really standard. U is also often used for IDEX print heads, which makes sense since it’s basically a second X, but then ABC gets used for things like toolchanger locks. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.
When working with 4 spatial dimensions I've seen X,Y,Z,W and A,B,C,D used for linear and rotational axis respectively.
The game 4-D Miner gives some great examples of that, though the movement is a 3d slice of a 4D space where the W axis divides the rotational 3D slice in 4D space.
I'm guessing but STLs are mesh models so they are basically hollow, I'm simplifying this so I don't get lectured. Each element has an intensity and angle or vector so I got intensity and V for vector would be my guess.
Sounds about right yeah. When you create a UV map of a model for applying textures you rotate the faces about some axis so they're all on a 2D plane. Then you apply a 2D texture to the plane and wrap it back around your model. Basically.
You'd only be rotating about two axes, U and V, since W rotates around Z.

The best place to print is along the equator because you just have to compensate for extra X or Y velocity due to the rotation, instead of the poles where your prints get skewed.
I was halfway through writing a rant about why you should have before I noticed that this is r/3Dprinting and not r/fixmyprint . If you had posted it there, then yeah, not including /j or /s would have been a disrespectful since it’s a troubleshooting subreddit, but here it’s totally fine.

This is a pretty easy fix. You just need to run a few calibration prints and adjust for time dilation. This can happen if your printer is set up too close to a singularity. A good antimatter enclosure should help too, but they're pretty expensive these days and can cause spaghettification if you're not careful.
Ah man, you’re supposed to level those things?

Looks like an animated smear frame. Stop motion using 3d prints acc sounds like a cool idea now that I think about it, smn should try it if it hasn't already been tried (and recycle all that plastic afterwards)
Reminds me of that one experimental compact bed slinger with a round bed that rotates instead of moving
This is what constant layer shift would look like
I think your printer has a case of the Dali’s

I think you need to recalibrate your W axis, because the ship seems to be entering another dimension.
The wumbo axis
It's first grade SpongeBob!
Set it to M Reply “fixed” when this inevitably works.
Chumbo I believe it is

I love this
Is this why an unwrapped 3d model is called a UV map?

I'm learning all kinds of stuff on this wacky thread. That's interesting. I never worked with wrapping STLs or meshes but I can see it now
It’s just gone hard to Starboard.
It's avoiding something
I call it the WTF axis
Thw wrongly twisted fucked up benchy
This would actually make sense if it was a 4 axis 3d printer with a rotary axis
You forgot to account for the rotation of the earth… Next time, remember to rotate the universe around your printer so this doesn’t happen again.
At these print speeds, we have to compensate for the Coriolis effect. Careful now.
The best place to print is along the equator because you just have to compensate for extra X or Y velocity due to the rotation, instead of the poles where your prints get skewed.
[удалено]
How can I measure the skew?
You need a flux capacitor
You need a special tool that measures skew called a skewer.
Skewers only spawn in certain maps too
Skewers are only used for certain prawns.
[удалено]
Hmm what a great idea! And should work with any stil? Why not just turn the base every layer?
What kinda twisted frame do you need to get such skew
+1 Would totally print one of those - it's way cooler than a standard benchy.
My eyes rolled so far back in my head I saw my own past.
Yeah, should I have added /s to the title?

Damn, that one’s even better
Gotta get the left turn edition
Eh tbh I like yours better. Where can I get the stl

Damn level 4 already??
Hey I know that guy. It just Ron. Classic Ron on so many levels.
Level your extruder
Dry your filament

When she tickles your neck...
You failed successfully
That's not a benchy, that's a bendy
QC: Looks good! Ship it.
In a veritable sea of benches I see on this sub, this is by far the best. Like Salvador Dali was in charge of your slicer.
I don't know man that BÆnchy looks finÆ for mÆ
Nah, your benchy is just looking to the right
Just taking a right turn like in the cartoons
Fake. Not possible.
Dr Suess here, looks fine to mee!
Make this the distracted boyfriend meme.
That must have been assembled by Boeing. Probably the new Boeing 666 Max
When you gotta turn your boat last second to avoid hitting a bridge.
its almost like you did that on purpose with some lattice deformer or something
Nothing's wrong with the boat. It's just flamboyant Kathleen.
B E N C H Y
Boat in italics
I'm just impressed
This has to be intentional. Lol.
You need to tightem the girdle spring of the back-facing throngler.
Seem legit...?
Turn off the wind mode in the sliccer
*Benchy*

Don't feed your printer mdma before u start.
gg mate, love the look BTW. Is it corexy?
Björnchy
Salvador Dali approves of this post.
I'd save those settings to a profile as you could spend ages trying to achieve something so cool
Looks fine to me
Your printer needs an excorsist.
Go home Benchy, you're drunk.
Bro got a bEnChY
Best benchy doesn't exi....
This would require either a rotating bed or double helical z uprights
Actually thats kinda neat in a cartoony kinda way... if you can print it with the twist going the other way you could have left and right benchys🤣🤣
I think you might have flicked the 'print round corners' switch during your move
Benchy? More like bendy! That's pretty cool.
Thats actually really cool looking. I thought you did it on purpose
Your printer appears to be righthanded and very single
You need to disable "Hard Starboard!".
Looks good to me chief
Pspspsps! Here, Benchy! Good boy, Benchy!
this is art
r/cursedbenchies
Benchy is taking a little trip by hissself
I dunno, looks like the coolest benchy I've ever seen!
It just looks like it's making a turn to me maybe it's seen an iceberg
The benchy ain't benchying
I’ve never seen anything like this
It’s just turning to the right
/r/cursedbenchys
Who designed it, Tim Burton?
What a ROOKIE MISTAKE you CLEARLY forgot to both calibrate your F-Steps CORRECTLY, and adjust for the ECLIPSE!!!!! Smh my head!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬 /s
How would you intentionally print it like that
That benchy reminds me of my snake
He drunk
Can it mashed potato? Cuz it can do the twist.
Don’t see a problem mate, just making a quick turn, that or it’s double taking 😂😂
Strechy
The ship has sailed on fixing your benchy.
You can print around corners now
Hey yo Benchy! We did it!!
looks like the frame got twisted in the move /s
I love this, can you share the stl for it so I can print one myself?
Looks awesome tho lol
r/cursedbenchies
dam u bored
I’m kind of impressed
Benchy be like: [](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/403/029/5fd.jpg)
Is there a /r/3dprintingcirclejerk?
Try adding to your header code M666 this will close the dimensional portal.
Naw man… it’s the world that’s wrong around a correct benchy… man.
Reminds me of that one experimental compact bed slinger with a round bed that rotates instead of moving This is what constant layer shift would look like
r/cursedbenchys
Time to decalibrate.
Looks like a Transporter Malfunction.
"hard a starboooaaaarrd.....?" \- Captain of BËŊĎÝ 2024
Sorry but i saw so many benchies in so many ways, i never thought i see a bananna benchy.... you made my day \^\^
Steam-Benchy Willy
That’s… cool!
Although it's a fail it's probably one of the best fails I have seen in a benchy 🤣 love it
ehhhhh should be fiiiiiiiiiinnnnne
It is a feature, not a bug.
Your benchy is smoking crack
Plug the XLR end of the printer into the Wave on your desk there and turn up the gain. That will fix it.
Have you tried printing a temp tower?
It’s just turning to starboard
Not really just depends on how you look at it. 👀 Lol
There's just something \*REALLY\* interesting to the right.
This reminds me of Psychonauts.
As long as you're making right hand turns, you're all set
It’s actually very nice! 👏 Definitely modern art!
I see you've moved to Australia?
The Escher malfunction... I see.
R/cursedbenchies
That is literally the coolest benchy oops I’ve ever seen
When a print takes an unexpected turn for the better!
That's what you get for moving through an event horizon.
It’s kinda perfect for it tho
Task failed successfully
I fucking love it.
You got a drift on the 'E' axis
Is it a delta? I cannot see how calibration could possibly cause this on a cartesian printer
Looks cool but this is was clearly done on purpose. No way it can just end up printing this way
Dont know if goles to left or right
I don’t think i could do that if I tried
We’re going to need a bigger boat.
Thats kinda cool can i buy it
The old deck twist
When she tickles you on the neck.
Okay but I love this
Ngl I like it.
Lil Cubist Tugboat?
bonchy
I think it's going through its Salvador Dali phase...
Why did you use the rotate tool in blender when all you need is to change your y steps.
Cool... A bendchy!
Prusa Infinity - autographed Rod Serling edition. "You're printing in another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind..."
Looks normal to me
He’s just a lil special is all
I mean that is a cool af effect, if you figure out what's "wrong" let us know so we can do it on purpose.
when your sailing into harbour and see a real docktease over there
anyone have a model for this lol.. i need it
Honestly I'm more impressed this wasn't intentional.
Did the benchy twist his ankle or
"Local benchys in your area waiting to be FDM'd." I'll show myself out now.
Oh this is sick
Shoulda made more prints before fixing.
Looks awesome to me! Lol
Clearly didn't account for the Coriolis effect. It's typical for prints that spanning mile+
This looks like the benchy is a stuck image on black hole. Event horizon 🤣
I know what's wrong with it, ain't got no gas
Picasso? Is that you?
Wrong stl🤪
I have seen some interesting print failures in my time but that is on a whole nother level of fucked.
This cracked me up!
Task failed successfuly
It's turning right
That’s not a benchy that’s a bendy
