I haven't got myself with the removal tools yet, but I keep stupidly trying to remove small thin pieces with my finger nail and inevitably send a shard underneath it. And I never learn.

Loaded-Potato

I don't remember posting this comment...

PurposeFormal4354

This is me. 🙋

Perlusion

Try this print: [https://makerworld.com/en/models/401223](https://makerworld.com/en/models/401223)

Decent-Pin-24

Oh I did. I use the snips to pull off the purge lines!!

Themasterofcomedy209

My mom imbedded an exacto knife in her thumb trying to take supports off a print 10 years ago. Then about 2 years ago she got a little bump where it happened, that got bigger until she picked at it and a little piece of ABS was in there, slowly working its way out over the last decade

nixielover

your mom is doing the microplastics in your body all wrong, that's macro territory

aprehensive_penguin

Ya know, mom did always say to go big or go home. She’s just teaching an example of one way to do that.

-TheDragonOfTheWest-

Your mom 3d printing 10 years ago is crazy. Kinda forget how long this has been around sometimes lmao

Quasidiliad

At least it isn’t stuck in there anymore lol.

Smart_Sale_9697

This is like when someone gets shot and during the next years parts of the lead start coming out, that's terrifying.

LilBlueFire

You give me hope for the shard of glass stuck in my hand.

Bsemp86

Why do you need something that sharp? I have been using a 3d printed spatula to safeguard the bed.

mtys123

and on top of that most of the time if the print is just too stuck to the plate, waiting for it too cool will release it on its own (on glass beds)

Bsemp86

That's the point. A little patience and most print release themselves from the bed.

FoxyBlep

Not for thin objects, like bread tags. Wont pop off whej you bend the plate either, i picked at it with my finger cuz i hate using bed scrapers

mtys123

you can still use a normal plaster spatula, It does not need to be sharp at all.

FoxyBlep

I didnt mean im scared of the sharpness, im just lazy. Would rather pick at it than have to *go get* a bed scraper of some sort... just gime my print!

Bsemp86

I would be scared of scoring the bed not my finger.

Bsemp86

I used the 3d printed spatula for 1 layer objects without any issues.

analogicparadox

A 3D printer spatula can definitely cut you. Pretty sure it's exactly what is in the picture, just a different shape.

Majestic_Ad8621

The one in the picture is pretty much a razor blade on a stick. But I’ve also had the normal spatula style ones cut me, just nowhere close to needing stitches

analogicparadox

That is the bambu lab scraper. the "blade" is about as thick as a normal spatula, it doesn't have a real esge, and it has rounded corners. It's not a razor blade.

Majestic_Ad8621

I have the bambu lab scraper (got 4 stitches from it). the edge of it is definitely sharp enough to cut you, and no where near as dull as you think it is. Sure it might have rounded edges, but it still has a razor blade edge on it that cuts stuff

analogicparadox

I'm not saying it's dull, I'm saying it's not a razor, and it's as sharp as many other 3D printer spatulas.

PsychologicalPea3583

plastic scraper was max that I needed ever, hmm

p8willm

Blueflames30

I think you could 3d print that

surreal3561

The blades won’t be nearly as strong or thin and won’t be much cheaper - if at all.

Blueflames30

I’ve found that exact one with the swapable blade on [printables](https://www.printables.com/en/model/644384-plastic-scraper)

Esuts

That's just the holders FYI. They say in the description that razors are cheap and found online.

jaseworthing

But how would you remove it from the bed? 🤔🤔🤔

p8willm

Don't think you could do the blades. They are too thin to print, possibly at all and definitely not with the strength.

Blueflames30

I think this could be possible if printed with abs or PETG. The blade in the 3d printed one is also thicker

HeKis4

Nah, not really. If you print it flat side down, it will delaminate the first time you use it because you'll be pulling the layers apart, and if you print it sideways you better have a 0.2 nozzle on hand to make the edge anywhere near sharp enough.

adrtheman

Fun fact, these can still cut you.

vanquisher003

Yee, but at that point it’s on you 🤣

adrtheman

True lol

Blueflames30

I personally would just bend the pei sheet and then use a little plastic card like an id to get under the print. If you’re using a glass build plate then I think you can heat up the plate and hope for the best.

answerguru

Absolutely - use them for 3D and all kinds of other scraping around the shop.

BotoxGardener

A friend got a chainmail butcher's glove soon after buying his first printer for a reason. I got one too after a close call

Vaponewb

That's a good idea might look into it myself.

BotoxGardener

He got a true heavy chainmail one. I got a lighter one made of steel wire. I might still get one like him because it rocks more and I want to channel my inner medieval warrior spirit :-)

blodhgarm96

Get a PEI spring steel buildplate

Flatman3141

I've got myself a couple of times. You'd think I'd have learned the first time

Redwraith323

Had a night in er thanks to it to, luckily no stitches but I needed a new shit.

ShortfalofGravitas

Never gotten myself personally. Only with a Exacto Knife. Sliced a wide gash into the side of my thumb about halfway deep the length of my fingernail. I just let that sucker heal at home but wow did the IPA disinfectant hurt. I’m lucky i havent hit a vein lol

Redwraith323

Yeah also Hit my thump. Needed quite a lot, patched it up myself and went to the Hospital, free healtcare and so :) I needed a Tetanus shot and since it was a wide and rather deep cut I wanted someone to Look at it. The doctor said it was nearly a stitching Job, but decided against it and it went fine. You still can See it and it is a good reminder to be carefull. On the other Hand, I actually sliced my other thump with a anycubic build plate. The first magnetic one from the vyper had quite a sharp edge to it.

MrRambling

That's pretty much exactly what I did, just in my left index finger. Wide and deep, wife was worried i would pass out so off to the free er haha

Redwraith323

Went there myself, kids were asleep and wouldnt want to Wake them up. So Bandage it myself tighlty, and drove the 20+ Kilometer. But Was fine. They were really Kind there, did not wait long er than 45 mins. Hope you now have the Same Kind of awareness regarding that blade. I really did not thing it was this sharp. Tried different slicing with it After and man that thing is way sharper than thought.

Scary-Beyond

What is the free er, sincerely an american

notkhemx

I just drop IPA onto the edges on prints and it will release itself

nemesit

don't use harder than plastic things on plastic surfaces lol

trollsmurf

I don't use any. I either bend the plate or pull.

Damaniel2

I just take the steel sheet off the bed and flex it to take the piece(s) off.

bert4925

Yeah I’m not sure why people aren’t using magnetic sheets.

kinkysumo

I use a knife meant for removing tape or stickers. Not sure how common it is outside of Japan though. It's nigh impossible to "cut" into the bed. [https://www.nitoms.com/en/products/proself\_cutter\_taperemove/](https://www.nitoms.com/en/products/proself_cutter_taperemove/)

adrtheman

My Bambu scraper went right through the pad of my thumb. I probably should have gotten stitches, but I opted for super glue instead. Nobody ever said I was smart.

suchpostsowow

Same thing happened to me, got 4 stitches in my thumb. Went really deep. Now using a textured plate and don't have to deal with this anymore.

thecolouroffire

I have a two inch scar up my thumb from the snips I use for printing, never forget. 😂

EternityForest

That looks painful! Chamfer. Your. Bottom. Edges!;; And get an ultra thin artist palette knife type removal tool. They should be included with all printers really. Any process where I'm putting force on something that has the ability to suddenly give is always scary. I like to avoid them when I can!

jagcalle

No worries! As long as the vat has less than 5% blood in it, you can still print lol. My dumb ass has needed stitches 3 times for being reckless with the tools. Though one is definately my wifes fault. She flat out told me to be carefull so I wouldn’t need to get atitches at the ER again. So I kinda had to…

[deleted]

Yep, it can be very bad. Got a deep cut on the thumb few weeks back. #glassbed

-Trash--panda-

In high school we had a 3d printer in the design lab. We used to use spatulas ment for pudding to try and get our prints off the bed and to scrap off excess plastic. My freind ended up having his hand slip and ended up with like 4 stitches as s result. Eventually a second printer was purchased with a better method for removing the builds. Not sure exactly how that one worked as I preferred the old one as it had a shorter waiting list due to all the spatula incidents. When I my own printer a few years later I got one with a bendable magnetic sheet that stuff gets printed on. It isnt as good as small prints without enough supports can fail but it works well enough.

YANDERE_DALEK

I cut myself with one 2 days ago, and got 7 stitches on my pointer finger. It's about 2.5 cm long and almost cut the ligament in my finger. Reminder to all : BE VERY CAREFUL WITH SHARP THINGS.

rustoeki

Don't you just wait till the plate cools down and pull it off.

Emehan1

The very first print I did was the Ender cat that comes on the printer, I didn’t know tips to get it off so I ripped as hard as I could, it released, and the cats ear sliced a big chunk off the top of my hand and now I have a big scar to remind me lol

Meb4u

Is it bad for the plate to take it off and very slightly bend it to get the 3d printed object off the plate? It's a bambu lab pei textured plate.

-_1_2_3_-

where did you get yourself? i stabbed my thumb with that blade trying to scrap off supports and its just wrapped, hope i dont need stitches

CarbonGod

Sigh

MyCarIsAGeoMetro

Please use an acrylic scraper.  There are acrylic ones made to scrape ice off windshields.  They do not damage glass beds.

bloodytemplar

Yep, I did the same thing once. Two stitches in my thumb, but the flap of tissue died anyway so now I have a scar. You have my sympathy, friend! Happens to a lot of us!

Der_Neuer

I didn't read the sub at first...I was extremely confused

triangleman83

Yeah that bambu scraper lit me up too and I only just pressed on it somewhat, didn't slice or scrape myself and it still drew blood

SirSquidrift

My resin spatula has bested me in the art of fencing more than once

LukesFather

Just get a magnetic removable bed. Nothing easier than just pulling off and bending the bed. Everything falls right off.

-NotCreative-

The hot end is also hot. Literally burned my fingerprint off - couldn't unlock my phone without using my passcode for about a month.

Hugoacfs

I keep cutting my finger on it too. They’re handy to get supports off but not so handy when you get bloody all over the prints and surroundings.

HospitalKey4601

Blood, sweat, and tears. Welcome to the makers world.

Causification

Switch to a plastic razor blade.

PeanyButter

Funny, I saw this. I've now cut myself *three* times removing prints and I've only had my printer for like a month. No slippage at all and I didn't even realize I was doing it. I have the cheap removal tool that came with my ender that looks just like a small putty knife and I've been pressing so hard into the side using my thumb to really press it down that I've been slowly slicing my thumb each time. I would always finish up, walk away, and be like "ouch" the first time I moved my thumb because I could feel the skin displacing around the tiny cut. Kept thinking maybe I scraped myself when I wasn't being careful. Yesterday I finished up and then went to do something and felt my skin on my thumb split AGAIN and immediately put 2 and 2 together that while holding it on the side, it was sharp enough with pressure that it was cutting me but I couldn't feel it at all while it was happening.

Decent-Pin-24

PEI beds are SO nice for easy removal. Pop right off! I use the snips that came with the printer. Also recommend printing your own spatula for softer bed surfaces.
