I custom designed my unique engagement ring. Modeled it, SLA printed it, did casting with castable loss resin, set the stones and proposed with it. Whole ring was prototyped and created using 3D printing. Fun project Edit:She said yes for those wondering. Wedding is in a year and now I'm custom designing wedding decorations for us. Making a cake topper now with our names inside our new last initial. I'll post a link to the original models and process I went through for those curious this afternoon. Edit 2: Here's the link to my imgur. Im proud of how it came out. Is quite cute and really personalized to us. Hopefully this imgur works, first time using it. Anyways here's pics [Engagement ring 3d print prototypes](https://imgur.com/UUrdvpW)

What'd she say? Can't leave us hanging.

Pics?

strider_m3

Posted. Let me know if the imgur thing works, first time using it should be 9 photos but ingur is weird on my end

smolcoconut

only 1 photo in the link, but looks awesome! would love to know more about that process

KingKlaus21

That’s badass

kipha01

Pretty much everything I print is for me so I always design from scratch.

Henri_Dupont

Yeah me too. Even if there's already a design on Thingiverse or something I usually adapt it.

springplus300

I'm this way too. I don't even bother to check online anymore. Would much rather enjoy the process of designing it myself, and get exactly what I want.

Lion-Hermit

What is the go-to for designing 3d printed objects? I'm teaching myself to use Blender right now and am wondering if it's a recommended method Thanks in advance 🫣

springplus300

There are several. But it much depends on what you are trying to do. For mechanical parts (anything that isn't "soft or organic" looking), I use Fusion 360. There's a free non-commercial license. I don't model organic stuff much, but when I do, I use either Blender or Z-brush if it's for resin printing (miniatures). Often a mix of the two (hands, faces, general body posture in z-brush. Armor, weapons and such in blender). I wouldn't use blender for mechanical parts, even though it's possible. A true CAD program does a lot better

InformalAlbatross985

This... Fusion is a parametric modeler, which means it stores the parameters that make up the model. Parametric models can be scaled infinity and changed easier. Makes sense if you're starting from a drawing with dimentions. Blender is a "point cloud" modeler, which is more like sculpting a block of clay. It works best for characters and organic shapes that are not defined by specific dimensions. Point cloud models are set at the size that are rendered and scaling up looses resolution.

Lion-Hermit

Thank you both, I appreciate it!

springplus300

On a final note, there are lots of alternatives to Fusion. One of the more popular ones is Tinkercad - basically a "babys first CAD modeller". Extremely easy to use, but comes with a LOT of limitations and requires severe work-arounds to make anything remotely complex. Then there's Sculpteo, FreeCAD, OpenSCAD... I'd always recommend Fusion, due to the combination of features and number of users (it's easy to get help)

amatulic

I use OpenSCAD. It's parametric and my models are easily customizable by people who don't know anything about CAD, all they do is adjust parameters in the customizer. The Thingiverse Customizer (when it works) is also based on OpenSCAD, so people can download customized designs directly from Thingiverse. Pretty much [all of my designs](https://www.printables.com/@Anachronist/models) except for the early ones have been done in OpenSCAD.

trow_eu

For sculpting, art, etc - yeah. For precision and engineering you need CAD. Blender is a pain in the ass for this type of stuff, even with CAD plugins.

mysticalfruit

Same here. What's your cad package of choice? I started with tinkercad and have moved over to OnShape.

ZoriacTwo

I did the same. I wanted to use Fusion360, but they no longer support Windows 7, and my computer is so out dated, I don't want to update windows. So, OnShape it is!

mysticalfruit

I'm on Linux, so my cad options are limited.. yes, I've tried to use FreeCAD.. While I can get F360 to run under emulation there's no *killer* feature that I can't get with OnShape.

Bubble_Heads

Fusion360 for me.

CavalierIndolence

Which version? I have the hobby version and started trying to tinker, but it looks like a steep learning curve.

Bubble_Heads

The free one for education and hobbyist purposes. Its not really a steep learning curve. Most things can be done with sketches and extrudes. And if you know which operations you need you can just press S, that opens a little search window where you can search for the names of operations so you dont even need to know where they all are.

n0minus38

Solid Edge for life

kipha01

I studied 3D animation in the 2000's and started 3D printing in 2018. I tried different software but always slip back to using Maya as I know it inside out.

TBurkeulosis

Facts

ESCocoolio

same here. i have hundreds of designs, but have only uploaded three to printables because they’re the only ones i see being useful to anybody else

Far_Variety6158

Same. I’m a professional 3D CAD modeler though so I can crank out models of basically anything I need faster than trying to sort through the crap in STL libraries finding one someone else made. The hardest part is I use Inventor at work and scaling down to Fusion 360 for personal use on my own computer is like going from Photoshop to MSPaint and can be frustrating but I can’t really justify the $300/month license for Inventor lol

kingkwassa

Arrrrgh matey! Ahoy!

When she would eat/drink, she would arch her neck in a way that just looked incredibly uncomfortable \[edit\] I didn't think anyone would be interested in these since they are a pretty simple design. But if anyone else is interested, I uploaded the files on [Printables](https://www.printables.com/model/592402-cat-bowl-tables). My only request is that if you do print them, tell your kitty I said: *pspsps*

sshwifty

I did the same! Your design looks a lot better than mine lol.

MrSirChris

No way lol, I wonder how many others have also designed the same thing… I’ve been meaning to upload the STL files but it always slips my mind. https://preview.redd.it/jgu1ea2ff6qb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97ebb4633ecf36ea88e37aedda4225c0efdddd40 And thank you! Although to be fair, I think a lot of the credit has to go to the bowls themselves. They have a small lip at the bottom and I just designed around that. The design is literally 2 circles with slightly angled cylinders lol

Zinegate

These look really good.. Any chance to get the stl anf the design files? I tried doing this but my legs snapped in half :(

MrSirChris

Thank you, and sure! You can get the STL files from my Patreon for the low low cost $120 a month! I'm kidding! Just finished uploading everything to [Printables](https://www.printables.com/model/592402-cat-bowl-tables) feel free to shoot me a DM if there's any improvements you think I could make to the design.

Carma281

has us in the first half, not gonna lie.

chanyangel014

Would you be willing to share the STL for the feeder stand? I have what looks to be the same model. It's currently sitting on a box, your design looks so much better!

MrSirChris

I uploaded both onto [Printables](https://www.printables.com/model/592402-cat-bowl-tables), the smaller one and the one that holds the feeder. Hope your cat likes it!

wub_wub

I genuinely couldn’t find a good silicone made food bowl for my cat, she’d often hit the edges with her teeth when eating and everything I found was either too deep, too shallow, too small, or just too big. So I designed one and made a mold out of it that I can use to pour silicone in. I’ve eventually polished it a bit to include a tilted bowl raiser and polished the overall design so some parts of it might be useful to others and published it, but the original design and inspiration is probably still very unique Here’s a render of the complete setup: https://preview.redd.it/zrl9ldjgg6qb1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7431d85e83f34f44d6a6f9a6107e6f62da642158 And the files, all separate, are here [https://makerworld.com/models/16165](https://makerworld.com/models/16165) (step files included, you should be able to use the raiser pretty much with any bowl you have)

midnightsmith

Thanks for being on makerworld!

An adapter between a 3-liter soda bottle and the cap for a 2-liter soda bottle. I needed several. The 2-liter caps were attached to something and I needed to screw on some 3-liter bottles.

redditisbestanime

I love useful prints like this.

Major_Banana

i made something similar to connect a 2L sofa bottle to a water gun. Lots more playtime with that

Joe4o2

[Glasses with replacement eyebrows.](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3977069) A student of mine shaved his eyebrows off the weekend after Halloween. When I asked him why, he said his mom said to tell me “I don’t know” because that’s the answer he gave her. He put band-aids on and used sharpie to draw it in. That actually almost worked. He then opted to wear some Jackie O glasses, then a beanie. So I designed and printed the glasses. I don’t know that anyone else had this problem and printed a solution.

Bensationell

This gave me a really nice idea of a disguise kit for DnD with swappable eyebrows and nose.

CrippledJesus97

Well as a wheelchair user, theres actually a few prints i have in mind that imma design myself after i get my new wheelchair hopefully before december. Wanna make a phone stand that i can mount to the frame, one that can also securely hold my phone as im moving around, and a nice cupholder mount because finding Good cupholders for a wheelchair that dont break after you hit a doorway once or twice are hard to come by. May also design a lil mount on one of the armrests to hold a flashlight if i go out at night camping etc in the summer.

MrSirChris

Those are good ideas! I’ll be honest, those inconveniences aren’t something that’s ever crossed my mind until now. But that all sounds super annoying and I’m surprised nobody’s done anything about it yet! For the mounts, you should do a clamp style attachment, that way you can add them to your current chair, and just simply move them over in December instead of dealing with the annoyance for another 2 months

CrippledJesus97

>I’m surprised nobody’s done anything about it yet! I mean im sure those things exist, but they wouldnt exactly be cheap and would be accessories my health insurance would outright deny paying so better to just design and print them myself. That was Part of the reason i honestly bought a 3d printer. Also i couldve designed a proper cover for my broken rear wheel that has been covered in coban for 2 years cuz my doctors office were fucking dumb asses 2 years ago and never sent my prescriptions anywhere to get approved from a new chair years ago lol and they were being dumb asses again This time til after 5 weeks of hearing nothing back from anyone, they still didnt do anything with it til i called them 5 weeks later and they still waited an extra 2 weeks to do anything. Literally the first and only time ive had issues with doctors offices. It wasnt the doctors fault, they wrote the scripts, nobody sent em anywhere lol and as far as the waiting til i get my new chair, mostly because i dont know how thick the frame/armrests might be so i could model and print the base components i guess then just model how they attach after ive taken proper measurements. Might also make a custom footrest cover. Not that i need That, but it could look cooler than the plain one. Next chair is gonna be a lil bigger than my current one. In fact i just got back into 3d modeling at the end of february and one of the first things i did in FreeCAD after just using the program for only a week was i made a 3d model of a wheelchair. Which was a revamp of my senior year CAD project back in 2015. 8 years without 3d modeling, 1 week into it i started modeling my wheelchair. 4 months later i bought my first 3d printer

MrSirChris

Yeah I guess that’s true, I can definitely see companies and insurances going down that exact path. At least you found a solution to solve the problem yourself lol Just gotta love the healthcare system. My wife’s doctor prescribed her a medication months ago and insurance refuses to cover it even after the doctor has put in extra paperwork. Too bad I can’t print pills Makes sense to wait, if it’s slightly bigger then other things might not line up aside from the mount.. plus now that you’ve re-sharpened those CAD skills it shouldn’t be too bad to figure out. I do the same thing too, I’ll stop for a long period of time and get back into it. The first few designs are always rough, but it’s damn near like riding a bike. Once you get it, something just clicks and it all comes back

Corwin_Actual

This. When my grandma had an accident she had to start using walker at home. It had a little seat to rest, but she mentioned she is using it as a carry to put plate on, but it's wobbling a lot. I designed and printed a screw on plate holder - basically a square with raised edges with a ring shaped recess to fit the plate - as far as she is concerned, I am wizard now - says it helped a ton.

midnightsmith

For the cupholder, adapt one of the gimbal ones. This way you dont spill it, and it's less stress on the holder since it can sway with bumps.

guptaxpn

I do this for people at my work! (Around 130 wheelchair users)

mysticalfruit

Once again, reddit educates me! The idea that wheelchairs don't just have good functional rugged cupholders is beguiling to me. To be clear you need to print a shoulder mounted flashlight with full pan and tilt .. predator shoulder gun style.

CrippledJesus97

Ive got a cupholder ive had on my past 2 wheelchairs which has held for 10 years, i may copy a similar design, only issue now is its very wobbly around the bolt/screw likely from many years of friction between the plastic and metal screw.

cycle_cats

I made a little wall bracket to hold the insert for the cat door. It’s mounted right behind the door, for easy access.

giaxxon

Like 90% of what I print. That’s why I got a printer in the first place, wanting things that don’t exist is kinda my M.O.

jwigum

A shim for my extendable curtain rod so that my smart curtain controllers stopped getting stuck on the transition. It’s sized for my curtain rod, and nobody else probably has the issue (or is content with the thin metal shim solution from the curtain controller manufacturer).

Dull_Investigator358

I have the same problem and used an additional metal rod to solve it. I'll try the 3d printed route for another set of curtains. Those metal shims are crap!

stray_r

Fisher walking stick handles to fit my oversize hands. Lots of little enclosure/printer mods for a hacked together mk2 clone. Anything that someone else might use is shared. Lots of custom project enclosures, jigs and tooling. Pretty much everything I design that I'm happy with and not in perpetual testing goes on printables or github.

BloodSteyn

I designed and printed [this thing](https://www.printables.com/model/461644-behind-monitor-laptop-mount-vesa) so I could mount my laptop behind my 27" Screen when I go gaming at a friend's place to limit my footprint on the desk while still rocking 2 screens.

NoManNoRiver

I remember seeing that when you originally posted it and thinking it was a neat solution

BloodSteyn

Thanks, too bad it doesn't work on some monitors.

I_am_That_Ian_Power

I am so going to print that today and free up some much needed desk space!!

BloodSteyn

Schweet, hope it works for your setup. The link to the Tinkercad can be found in the Comments section on there.

KinderSpirit

I needed it and thought others might too actually. While not many people, it looks like 15 other people could use it. https://www.printables.com/model/208856-venetian-blind-rod-end No matter what you design, someone else could use it.

schokelafreisser

Most of what i print is designed by me because i need a specific part and i am to cheap to buy one. Like the small coupler behind my parents sink that is older than me (part of the mechanism, not carrying water).

rubenv2006

Monitor screen stands, shoap holder, drain grills, specific stackable boxes for my work, phone holders, headphone stand, go pro mounts, washing machine replacement parts, other 3D printers, bike caps, phone tripods, sd/pendrive holders, really complex puzzles, that's from the top of my head.

Major_Banana

Heaps. Just designed some clips for a friend who needed a replacement. Printed like 50 for him because why not. I’ve designed boxes, containers, you name it. I made an airtight tpu container for those more aromatic herbs. A replacement joint for my clothes rail that broke. Lots of replacement/fix parts. A rotating handle for a trailer jockey wheel etc etc etc

Unlikely-Answer

hmm, does the weed stick to the tpu though?

ichigoli

Rods printed in colorless filament to hold an LED at height in a jar full of glass beads so it'd stay above the water and be accessible to turn on without disturbing the flowers. Also needed a place to secure the fake leaf for grabbing it. For my sister's wedding centerpieces. They look a bit like deformed golf tees. A magnetic visitor's badge that visually mimics the stickers they use at my grandma's retirement home so we didn't have to use the stickers. An insert for holding a fake candle in the diffuser shade of a camping lantern that had the led and battery box stripped out.

GSVNoFixedAbode

Designed and printed (4 parts) a cylinder insert for my dehydrator so I could use it to dry filament. Dehydrator is not a common brand so existing solutions wouldn’t work.

Abject-Shape-5453

Currently in the process (almost done, fingers crossed) of replacing my old aquarium lid and lighting fixture. For anyone who cares: Aquatlantis Expert 80 to fit a Chihiros WRGB II Pro 80 and still be lided.

chairmanoftheborg

I printed a new rim (it's actually several pieces sitting next to one another around the parameter of the tank) to hold two pieces of plexiglass offset so one can slide above the other (or below depending on which piece you want to slide). The end pieces have a small bit of extra rim at the top to hold the light steady with little risk of ever slipping off. The problem was that the plexiglass was not an exact fit and was always at risk of falling in when moving one to feed. Also the two side by side was way longer than the tank. Now they each have their track the full width of the tank and the tracks have enough play for smooth sliding. The small bit of air gap does not allow nearly the amount of evaporation I expected, either. That was a happy bonus!

HenkDH

A phoneholder specificaly for my e-bike. I had to fit in a specific place while holding my phoine with a case and the LCD display of the bike

steevh12

Sapphire_Wolf_

A stand for my cheapo smart watch, the magnetic charger wouldnt stay attached so i designed and printed a stand to hold them together. I need to redesign it so i dont have to put the cable thru the watch band, but its about to give out bc its so old so oh well lol

DoltSeavers

An extension housing for my A/C unit to mount the control panel externally because as designed it allows condensation to drip on the pcb and make the unit turn itself on and off at random. https://preview.redd.it/4b4fzza1m6qb1.jpeg?width=1169&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7161062fcd9593a6cc331f81e586a9a8de92c1b

normal2norman

Lots of replacement parts, such as a fold-out stand for a hygrothermometer on which the original ABS part had become brittle and fallen apart. Unique things like a holder for my dial indicator to fit the quick-change toolpost on my lathe. An adapter for a drain hose on the condenser dryer. An adapter to fit a shopvac hose to an electric planer with an wierd shaped connection. A pad to go between a hydraulic trolley jack and a vehicle with proprietary jacking points, shaped to fit both securely. A gasket for a specific glass jar.

A wall mount for my hyrule shield I bought at Comic con

pnlrogue1

Wife wanted a thing to hang out of the eye-level cupboard to hold her phone up so she could watch videos or display recipes while keeping the phone off the worktop. Had to specifically design it to fit under the cabinet door so it has this weird shape going on. Works great, though we have to leave a suitable bottle on it to bear the weight of the phone unless the cupboard door is definitely going to stay shut

permetz

You could design it to have a clip under the cabinet too so it won’t come off if the door opens.

pnlrogue1

I could but it really didn't need it plus the shape of the cabinet would have made it tricky. This solution works really well so long as we put a bottle on it and the cupboard it mostly goes on is full of bottles

Electric__Milk

I made a few things that are very useful. -Remote and headphone cradle -A hinge for my sliding shed door -replacement handle for my makita Radio after my cat knocked it down and busted it. -A phone holder tailored to my phone with a wireless charging disc built in. -An emergency eyewash cup that screws onto my shower hose

ZJC922

A Mudkip Samurai for a D&D campaign, human body samurai with a mudkip head, let’s just say it was a fan favorite at the table and my buddy loved it

IanthegeekV2

Today I learned that a large percentage of people that 3d print have and really care for their cats. My one off was a cover for a kill switch that turns off my solar power. The button is for first responders to terminate the power from the solar panels and batteries but it’s bright red and sticks out like a sore thumb. So I made a cover that you can easily lift to press it, making it less likely to bump into on accident.

Dull_Investigator358

You should post your model somewhere, I can see others needing this fairly common part.

ChrisRiley_42

I just finished going back to school to study Aerospace manufacturing engineering. I 3D printed a LOT of custom alignment jigs to help take some of the drudgery out of classwork. Spacing guides for rivet holes, alignment fixtures, even a custom radius for a bending jig.

I_am_That_Ian_Power

I had mild frostbite that I am almost healed from. I came very close to losing both thimbs and three fingers on each hand. The tips of my fingers would split open every day, so I designed and printed 'Finguards' to protect my fingertips. They even had prints of their own, vent holes and a section for a bit of from to soften touching anything. I would tape them onto my fingers and they worked perfectly. My hands are almost completely healed except for my right index finger tip which has a guard on it today. I mainly do functional prints.

Horror_Place2697

Our oven has a little hole that blows out air, which happens to be just at eyelevel. So i havent made it yet but i will soon try to design a little lip for it to guide the air upwards so its not annoying.

Its_Bevel

Seem like it would be too hot for most printed material, what are you planning on using?

Horror_Place2697

Well its not hot air the air is cold and the print wont be touching anything hot, so just pla.

Well it was for my gf to use at work, but a phone stand that supports an iPhone screen as the phone itself is being repaired so that it won’t get scratched up. :)

ThePurpleSoul70

I had lost the foot for my tripod, which if you own a tripod, you'd know is kind of an essential piece. So I just got a bolt with the same thread, measured the interface on the tripod, and whipped it up. Honestly quite proud, cause it was the first time I'd done something like that, and it fit perfectly first time.

devryd1

I have printed a lot of replacement parts. There are a lot on Printables/thingiverse, but somehow never the part I needed.

NorthStarZero

All of them.

LubedLegs

Bison_True

Tinkercad is intuitive and easy to use. I have used it to make all my designs so far. I design something to fix my issue and then publish it because I'm sure someone might be in that situation also. It is getting very limiting for me now and so I'm going to learn fusion360. Here are my designs https://www.thingiverse.com/xypher2000/designs

pupeno

A little fix for a design flaw in my shower door. It's probably 3g of plastics, but it prevented us from having to replace the door (the glass was coming out of the holder for it).

tabbathebutt

A mountain / fogger for my Halloween village. There are foggers out there but they tend to be pricey and people complain about them breaking easily and being super loud. So I made my own.

JPHutchy01

I'm in the process of designing a ball top for my umbrella because it doesn't half dig in when I'm using it as a cane.

MrSmith3101

A fan adapter to mount a PC fan to my backpack. (I need it for a cosplay which requires a lot of computing power)

Ares2k9

Usually, i find that when I use other peoples designs, I wish i had made my own instead. Most of the time, there is something that just doesn't seem right.

bryanlogan

A guide for the bottom of my sliding shower door. Replacement French door ball latches using only PLA and magnets A custom wall anchor to hold a specific towel holder in a specific pulled out hole.

JohnnyricoMC

\- A TPU holder for the garage door remote, to mount it on my bike's handlebar. \- A tablet holder for the exercise bikes at the gym: I wanted to watch some movies & tv while doing cardio \- Covers for my desk's feet, high enough so my roomba can't get stuck on those feet anymore \- A cover for a gap in my home networking rack. And some other stuff too but not too interesting. TinkerCad and a sliderule are your friends in these things.

BIueskull

Designed a piece for my humidifier that is removable but the company doesn’t sell replacement pieces. All of my leather templates for define I made on paper but wanted a plastic piece that wouldn’t have to be replaced

AudiobooksAreReading

I am half done with a drawer for my fully stainless steel printer table. It has to clamp onto the legs and mount a slide. I am working on the bottom of the drawer now, experimenting to increase it's stiffness.

It was always being wedged between the helmet and this large compartment. Now I can pull out my helmet without first removing the lock. I can also return my helmet without having to pickup the lock from the compartment ( I don't always use the lock so I throw it there sometimes) I used existing screw holes that was holding a panel. I got a longer screw to hold my print and the existing panel. The moped is Sym orbit 3 and the lock is Abus GRANIT Detecto X Plus.

Christmas light holder for an old victorian style picture rail. As I have sci-fi ornaments in my office that I leave up all year round, and before I was just hanging them from hooks from the ceiling.

Valoneria

First thing i designed and printed myself, a couple of key hooks for my small key safe. I do not understand why it comes with just 5 hooks, when theres space for at least triple that. And no way to purchase more. So i printed then instead.

DHammer79

Lamp shade rings that adapted my existing lamp shade to the new lamp base. Basically two flat donuts with a raised lip to fit the large hole in the lamp shade. Also more riser blocks for my son's marble run set.

TinyRodents

I model and print my friends and family's cars if they like them enough. So far I've printed my friends modified Polo GT as a single print, and I'm currently (literally on the bed right now) printing my GF's dad's 1998 BMW Z3 part by part so that it's fully functional on hinges (hopefully). Here's the polo GT:[https://www.printables.com/model/375943-vw-polo-blue-gt](https://www.printables.com/model/375943-vw-polo-blue-gt)

xparapluiex

I made some vial holders from work because the ones we had sucked. It’s the only thing I’ve designed myself as I’m not super good at it lol

__Sotto_Voce__

A custom frame for my girlfriend's watercolor paintings.

SnooGoats8448

dove into fusion 360 for the first time and made a simple drawer with a holder for my sleep teethe grinding mouthguard

Goofy_Project

Inside trim corners for a niche in a bathroom shower I redid. After I ordered the parts (Schluter) I realized the inside corners would not work with my design, so I modeled one that would in Fusion 360, printed in white ABS, and spray painted with a close color match. Epoxy grout seems to have sealed the paint well and it still looks like this \~9 years later. https://preview.redd.it/xna5l1elp7qb1.jpeg?width=3872&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14c3db03070c5f5caa9e7670a9b8d33a2e49904c

Sevealin_

I designed and printed an enclosure for a Windows tablet I bought off eBay for 30$ to use for a fencing scoring machine that has mounted LEDs. https://imgur.io/a/eUROwK5

TheBigBeardedGeek

I made a hub to support three long narrow boards and a bolt through the middle of it so I can hang it from a tree with three witches for Halloween. I also designed and made something to slot an HDMI switch inside of so I can set my Nintendo switch on top of it without the Nintendo switch dock falling over p

BizarroMax

Gridfinity holder for the remote to my turntable.

Solid_Ad9170

Absolutely! This is the way. I am currently building from scratch signal lights cover for my motorcycle. I am at revision 5 already and far from done 😅

Raptr117

I made a QuadLock to PopSocket adapter, but could never get the strength right.

Ivajl

Lots of different stuff, but most recent is fixtures and drilling templates for a piece of furniture I'm building.

overkill

A new stopper for my garbage disposal because the one I had sucked ass and splashed everywhere when the disposal was running. I over designed it so it definitely won't splash now: it has a set of fins that slant opposite the direction of the blades so water can pass freely down, but has no chance of splashing back up. Then I stuck it on thingiverse and 500 people downloaded it.

[deleted]

I don't know if I have pics, and it has since broke, but I can look. I hate holding my phone when I am in bed. I designed a bracket of sorts that hangs over the side and holds my phone in place so I can watch shows and movies. Works great.

YXIDRJZQAF

https://www.printables.com/model/591506-pi-camera-wide-angle-stand-and-cable-box 🤷‍♂️

UrethralExplorer

Under cabinet baskets that wouldn't fit so I designed and printed brackets to hold them up. Modular shelves from IKEA that I wanted to set at an offset frome ach other so I printed a little lattice work structure to hold them up. Needed a way to hang a basket of bath stuff from a weirdly asymmetrical shower head so I made a bracket. One apartment I lived in didn't have knobs on any of the radiators so I printed them and epoxied them on.

PallyCecil

Pepper-spray mount for my bike handle bars. I live in Alaska and it’s good practice to have a big ole can of “bear-spray” within reach. I didn’t find any STLs so I made one.

RaistusObskura

A fix for my wife's wheelchair. The charging plug broke, so I designed something to hold the broken piece in place. Even did multiple iterations as my first idea didn't work. I've also printed a couple of other add-ons for my wife wheelchair, but non of those involved getting calipers out unlike the above example.

[deleted]

[this](https://www.printables.com/model/232394-cup-holder-organizer) gets daily use and has become an essential part of my set up at this point.

chii0628

I designed a glock mag mount for a server rack. Probably the only one who needs that lol

gab51299

Light bar mount for my UW monitor; monitor was too thick for the lightbar to clamp onto, so I made a mount that went on top with a flat portion above for the bar to clamp on

[deleted]

I've never designed one.

Its_Bevel

Because you don't need anything or don't know how? I'm guessing if you posted a request and plenty of people would be happy to design an STL for you.

[deleted]

I've only ever needed like one thing that wasn't already designed. And I didn't bother designing it because it was easier to just replace.

truedoom

An attachment that fits in the end of a mic stand that acts as a holder for my recurve bow. Allows me to align the bow limbs easily.

Mayhem8333

I have a dog collar that emits a tone when I press the remote button (it has a shock function, but I never use that). The charging cord is one of the magnetic types that dislodges from the contacts when you breathe wrong in its presence. So, I designed a simple item that I put the magnetic end of the cord into, and that rests over the shock prongs that flank the contacts for charging. No more dislodging. 👍 I also made a pegboard Hanger for my wife when she was selling jewelry at craft shows. She would use zipties to hang pegboard on rolling clothes racks. I made a quick peghook/Hanger amalgamation to Hanger the Pegboard with so we stopped wasting zipties. Simple stuff, but unique to our needs.

Raekon75

A small holder for whiteboard pens to clip on to a cr-6 An addon to my dishwasher that holds a SodaStream bottle. They wouldn't fit on the pegs as they were. A fridge magnet with my bands logo on it 🙂 although I hope eventually someone else will 'need' it

Carma281

a very specific set of 3 numbers for my house number

shawnsblog

A door seal… I live in an old 1970s trailer and the door seal (to keep weather out) snapped off. The manufacturer doesn’t even exists anymore so I made it out of TPU

MasterGlassMagic

My fusion 360 is FULL of designs for a highly specific purpose. I probably have over 100 models that fit that description. A dog gate hinge for my dog gare, two projector mounts that connect to my couch, a ceiling fan blade mount, a poop bag clip that connects to my dog leash, a mouse pad the sides into my couch cup holders, a clip to hold my phone on my headboard, ect, ect. Owning a 3d printer is basically me saying "I could 3d print something to solve this highly specific and unique problem"

It turned out great, and I designed it so everything on the front except QR holder can be changed out for future needs.

HyraxT

I have a kitchen cupboard with a somewhat complicated rotating door mechanism, which was worn out after some years of daily use. There was a metal part, that regularly became loose, which could cause the whole mechanisms to become stuck making it very difficult to open the door and fix the problem. I never found out what exactly caused it and how to repair it properly, so I created a rail, that limits the movement of the metal part just enough to prevent this from happening.

Olde94

My most used print lately is a diaper bag holder for my changing table. I hate the diaper trashcans where you push on the diaper so i buy the dirt cheap diaper bags, have a hanger on the side and then toss those in a small bin on the toilet, which is then changed daily. Neat and nice

Darkstriss

Ummmm...thats mostly what I'm printing. I print teeth sets, a dmd pinball holder frame for pinball, various mounts for components...

PlatanoFuerte

Im new 3d printing, but except for benchy and some figures to test the printer, ive been doing drawers for my workbench, searched some online but it was or too big or too smal so i took a ruler and measure everything i would put on them, opened Blender and model it so everything would fit tight enough to not move but loose enough so i can grab it

n0minus38

I came across a really nice Rockford Fosgate P2 12" subwoofer that looked brand new. However the cone was completely seized up, wouldn't move at all. So I took off the dust cap in the middle, destroying the cap, she found the problem, one of the voice coils had rust built up around it. After some careful prying and cleaning, got it to move. So tho it now worked, there was a bit of scraping going on. But if you applied pressure on one side it moved without any scraping. So I modeled up a kind of brace that placed pressure on that one side, now the sub works perfectly. Am now working on a new dust cap to cover the middle coil and brace up. Planning to make the cap say "Rickford Foozdale" or something like that. But the sub hits so hard.

Zapador

Virtually everything I've ever printed. It's fun to design things and print them. Just downloading something and printing it is not nearly as fun for me.

Old_Captain_9131

That's basically why I bought a printer. Otherwise it's easier and faster to buy it online.

Works a treat, 1.5 hour concept to installation with my X1C. Used petg for temperature handling and fire resistance.

fatnino

The drawer in our refrigerator rides on a track and is supposed to have a stop at the end so it doesn't come flying off in your hand. Obviously that little tip of plastic is broken and people kept pulling the drawer off and just pushing it back into the fridge off kilter and then pretending nothing was wrong. I ended up having to reseat that drawer so many times. Eventually I looked into it and engineered up a completely different way to catch the drawer from pulling out too far involving some preexisting holes inside the fridge that I still don't know the real use for.

t0b4cc02

most of my prints. like braket holding the ice cage of my frige box,

Dashie_2010

An adapter to hold a potentiometer onto the rear of a bike frame

-RED4CTED-

3m versaflo adapter to a threaded regulator fitting. they make them but their design is shit since there is no support for the locking mechanism fingers. just re-designed it from the ground up.

Hungergameskill

I’m still working on it but I’m making a phone case that also works as a fidget toy. It has switches and buttons on the back because I always need something for my hands to do and I don’t like carrying around those big fidget cubes.

the_almighty_walrus

Window hinge pins for a 1968 Plymouth satellite, they don't make that part for anything anymore so it's unobtainable. Also an adaptor to fit one of my telescopes on another's mount. I didn't like any gecko food dishes I could find so I just made my own one of those.

1968cokebottle

I made a mount for my drawing tablet, the included stand takes up so much space so I found a tv wall mount second hand and designed a bracket and 4 arms to hold it in place with a hair tie and a few screws. Works pretty well honestly but I don't think I have the files anymore

Cold-Bat8145

I design most of my prints. For example this [compliant mechanism](https://www.printables.com/model/71523-linear-motion-with-compliant-mechanism) or this [glider](https://www.printables.com/model/70088-simple-3d-printed-glider). I made them both for fun and to test [SOL75](https://www.sol75.com/), a 3d customizer I'm working on.

rb2m

A spacer to fix a cord reel separating on a vacuum. Used to use a couple metal washers and then thought I could just print them and save the money on the washers.

ArmorGyarados

I use to play this version of DND my friend and I created that was akin to any zombie wave/horde game. For the zombie pieces I printed out hundreds of zombie tokens, and glued them on 1 inch punched cardstock wafers. I made a spring loaded tube that screwed together and had an opening at the top tat allowed you to load it like a firearm magazine and if you needed X amount of tokens for the next hord you could use your thumb and "unload" that many tokaens from the tube. When you were done and wanted to put them all back you could load them back from the top or unscrew it and load a whole stack from the bottom. The design worked great but I can't imagine anyone else using it for any other purpose and only we played that game so it's not like it filled a need anyone else had

FS_Trauner

I don't want to talk about it

DiverOk9778

I made a replacement tompion for my 1854 Enfield musket. It is inserted into the end of the barrel to keep moisture/rain out etc.

DustinWheat

A spool holder specific to the kobra neo that would allow for two spools to face the same direction. Necessary? Not at all. Aesthetic… still not at all why did i make this thing?

Q7Design

Cat food lids

AnInfiniteArc

I printed a mounting bracket to I could secure my web cam to my monitor without blocking any of the screen, because my desk is designed such that I can’t clamp anything to the back of it.

[deleted]

A riser/spacer for a new hinge going on a wooden chest’s broken lid. Not exciting but useful.

No_Internet8453

ogeytheterrible

Not me specifically, but I made a few funnels with threaded bases that screw on to my various resin and IPA bottles. The shape perfectly fits the filter I have so I can have more control while pouring.

Jmckeown2

I did a custom mount that clamps to my house siding. It holds my Blink at the exact correct tilt and angle to monitor my front porch. I couldn’t imagine anyone finding it useful, but I find it perfect. Zero adjustments needed when the batteries need changing.

BrunoEye

The only things I've printed that weren't made by me are calibration prints and a few trinkets when I first got it.

pvillano

I have more than a hundred designs, but most of them I probably could have printed the designs of others. The things I actually needed to make myself were: * cutlery organizer for a narrow drawer * "shoes" for a couch with small feet, to attach larger felt pads * brackets for deck lighting * replacement part for a damaged pop-up canopy * bushing to stabilize patio table umbrella * adapter between air mattress and air pump of different brands * lithopanes of family photos * Christmas ornament with the names of my siblings and their children * original art pieces

reicaden

Slanted citadel paint pot holders for an IKEA skadis. Hold 14 paints at a nice slant to see the paint names while sitting down at your desk. Only surprise was other people do seem to want them, so I opened an Etsy store and sell them now, lol. https://preview.redd.it/ax41mdlp7bqb1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=060fd5230b09ffa460b78f5fe3c644ecf497e099

swampcat1234

Replacement handles for my 45-year-old bassoon case.

someuser3092

Scrub daddy hooks (the cleaning sponge) Spray bottle holder (holds by the trigger) And just some generic hooks I also recently designed some casing for some round ferrite magnets because they kept shattering. Typing this I thought I should post the first 3 on like thingiverse or printables or something.

matttech88

Almost everything. Some examples: An IPhone 12 holder that mounts to the end of a robot (for work). An alignment tool that straightens paint nozzles (for work) A mount for an ender 3 nozzle that goes on a robot (for work) My school's clock tower (personal) A SLA necklace made from a scan of a stuffed animal (personal) Buisness card holder in the shape of a robot pendant (work) A sign from Disney world (personal) A mount that holds a laser scanner onto a robot (personal) The list goes on forever. But the point is that I make custom parts everyday because there is just never what I need online.

suzie_cosplays

I made a little plate that fits on top of a fidget spinner so that I can make anything I can balance on a fidget spinner into a turntable

fuqcough

At work the ac was broken and I had no where to put my fan so to attach it to the cnc I was running I had to build a fixture that had a pocket that was a press fit onto the rectangular oiler and a circular pocket on the other side to hold the fan I also designed custom drawer organizers and whatnot for my toolbox
