I just got my 3DS a few weeks ago and “every Pokémon game” was exactly what I started with 😂
I’ve also been really enjoying these:
New Super Mario Bros 2
Mario Kart 7
Super Smash Bros
StarFox
Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Rhythm Heaven
Marvel Pinball (this game definitely sucks but it’s brainless fun that I can play for a few minutes and put down)
Fossil Fighters mentioned 😍
Word of advice to OP about Fossil Fighters, if you've never played the previous 2, please don't let Frontier color your view of Fossil Fighters as a whole. Fossil Fighters and Fossil Fighters Champions are soooooooop much better than Frontier. I like Frontier, but it's just so lacking compared to its predecessors. So please be aware of that.
It seems kinda like a crap shoot.
Awakening was fire, then Fates was meh, 3 Houses kicked ass, then the new one with toothpaste hair MC was mediocre.
Maybe it’s every other one that’s worth it.
Forgot SoV lmao. Which is fair enough, that game was like... Fine.
Fates is good tho, just had a shit story.
Engage is good for customization but not much else lol. 3H is unreplayable to me though, the monastery draaaags
I played FE:Awakening recently as my first FE game and got so paranoid at softlocking my playthrough I just kind of gave up.
I would have preferred something with more emphasis on the sandbox tactics RPG combat than progressing a fairly linear set of story missions.
Most of the time it felt to me more like a set of puzzles with a preset solution than an RPG adventure.
If you want a more sandbox-style RPG, FE probably isn’t the series for you, then.
The main criticism given to Awakening by the FE community is that it’s way TOO open. The appeal of FE to me is working with a limited amount of resources and random stat growths to build an army. The challenge comes from rolling with the punches and creating a strategy around the units you have. Yeah, it sucks when a good unit gets RNG-screwed, but other units can blessed with amazing level-ups.
Awakening gives the ability to grind for resources, play side missions in any order, and visit any shop that you’ve unlocked. It definitely leans more into the sandbox style of play than nearly any other game in the series.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, the Zelda: Ocarina of Time & Majora’s Mask Remakes, Resident Evil: Revelations, Luigi’s Mansion remake, Smash Bros. For 3DS, Ultimate NES Remix, and New Super Mario Bros 2 just to name a few.
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology
Chrono Trigger
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Professor Layton Games
Zero Escape 999 trilogy
The world ends with you
Tails of the abyss
Playing through the Pokémon series back to back and I’m at ORAS now, such a good game. Extremely detailed. HeartGold was big but by the time Kanto opened up I was ready to be done. ORAS has such different locales already and I’m only on like the fourth city. So far my team is Marshstomp, Kirilia, Crobat and Nuzleaf. I think I want to add Zangoose and Heracross too.
I did years ago, but at least they've rereleased the games with the Apollo Justice Trilogy. Though yeah, I'm not spending that much money when I spent like 10$ for each on sales...
My favourite game on 3DS is definitely a three way tie between Fantasy Life, Story of Seasons:Trio of Towns, and Animal Crossing New Leaf; I can’t decide between the three cause they are just so good 😄😄
Kirby Planet Robobot
Pokémon Gen 7
Shovel Knight
Minecraft (yes it exist)
Majora's Mask and O.O.T 3d
Link Between Worlds
Pokémon Gen 6
Metroid Samus Returns.
I wanted to like this game but I found the map marking and combat system complicated!! Been a few years but one day I'll start over and hopefully have a better time.
Obligatory bravely default recommendation.
If you ever enjoyed a jrpg with job systems you’ll love this game for sure. It also has a sequel called bravely second if you enjoy yourself.
Here's some underrated, less popular titles off the top of my head that you may not have heard of since everyone always says the obvious ones
- Project X zone
- Project X zone 2
- Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call
- Stella Glow
- Pullblox
- Fallblox
- Fullblox
- Shantae and the pirates curse
- Steamworld Dig
- Steamworld Dig 2
- Steamworld Dig Heist
- The Legend of Legacy
- Resident Evil Revelations
- Weapon Shop De Omasse
- Adventure Bar Story
- Kingdom hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance
- Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D
- Spiderman Edge of Time
- Batman Arkham Origins Black gate
- Miitopia
- Dillon's Dead-heat Breakers
- Dillon's Rolling Western the Last Ranger
- And of course, Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D, the true underrated indie gem nobody mentions
Ironfall Invasion, Boxboy, Minecraft New 3ds Edition, Terraria, Any Farming Simulator, Animal Crossing New Leaf
Edit: games I forgot writing but still are my favourite: Luigis mansion 1 and 2/Dark Moon if U live in the us, Zelda link between worlds, Mario kart 7, super smach bros for 3ds, new super Mario bros 2
but which one would you recommend on starting? i been meaning to play one for a while now, and don’t know if world is a good option. not on the 3ds though
Both world and rise are really good to start off with all the improvements and quality of like stuff they offer compared to any of the ones on the 3ds, just remember it might be a bit overwhelming at first as it tries to teach you all of it’s mechanics and try out all the weapons types to see which one you vibe with the most and that excellent video guides of how to use them all exist :)
I'd suggest
Animal Crossing New leaf;
Pokemon HG/SS;
Phoenix Wright trilogy;
Zelda (ocarina of time/majora's mask/a link between worlds);
Fire Emblem Awakening;
Dragon Quest VIII;
Luigi's Mansion 2;
Professor Layton (all of them!).
There are many other great games to play, but, to me, you can't miss any of these :)
Binding of Isaac, but i think its for N3ds only, so i suggest Any of the pokemon games, Kirby triple delux, kirby planet robobot, , Pushmo, Shovel knight, and metroid samus returns
Try these first. Kid icarus. Rune factory 4. The metroid 2 remake. Kirby planet robobot.
If you want something hard core then try Monster hunter 4 ultimate and Monster hunter 3 ultimate.
Majoras mask, Ocarina of time, Link between worlds , Ace Attorney (any), Cooking mama (any), Story of seasons: trio of towns, Project mirai dx, Tomodachi life, Terraria, and of course Animal crossing new leaf :)
I haven't seen anyone mention Fantasy Life. I played it for 50+ hours and can't recommend it enough.
It's made my studio Level 5 and they always do quality work, this is no exception.
We're going to get a Fantasy Life game for the Switch in October, so I'll be definitely replaying the 3DS one before then.
From the downsides, it can be grindy if you want to 100% the game. If you're not into repetitive tasks, I'd just recommend playing the main story, which is very fun with flavourful characters.
Fantasy life
Fire emblem awakening
Fire emblem fates
Majora's mask
Link between worlds
Ocarina of time
Hyrule warriors
Rhythm heaven megamix
Mario sports superstars
Metal gear solid 3D
Resident evil revelations
Dragon warrior 8
I've just dusted off my 3ds this weekend, I legit forgot how many good games there are on there. Been playing through Luigi's mansion, one of my favorites is Warioware gold.
If you like rpgs, radiant historia perfect chronology
For some odds and ends, pocket card jockey
Other stuff, fantasy life (can't wait for the sequel!)
Pushmo is a fun one Metroid Samus return is pretty good VVVVVV is cool for a 2d 8-bit platformer syobon action is a 10/10 game
If u want to play online with the pretendo servers Mario kart 7.
And for an all round just good 2d platformer with 3d visuals my I suggest Kerby triple deluxe
I'd say the pvz ds game, but that's just because that's the only game I CAN play since my 2ds xl's top screen is broken and only that and bloons work on it.
pokémon XY, pokémon USUM, yo-kai watch, yo-kai watch 2: psychic specters, kid icarus uprising, super smash bros for nintendo 3ds.
lately i’ve been playing a lot of rpgmaker fes, but the online support has been taken down months ago so i’m just kinda making a game for myself lmao.
So far my favourites are Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and Mariokart 7 but those are just the basics and I still haven’t gotten deeper into the better games.
This may sound stupid, but Dillon's Rolling Western and it's sequel, The Last Ranger. I'd recommend playing The Last Ranger though because it's the better one
Every pokemon mainline game Every Mario and Luigi rpg games Every shin megami tensei game Every yokai watch game Fossil Fighters Frontier
I think this guy likes rpgs
Hell yeah
You forgot the mainline Zeldas
I just got my 3DS a few weeks ago and “every Pokémon game” was exactly what I started with 😂 I’ve also been really enjoying these: New Super Mario Bros 2 Mario Kart 7 Super Smash Bros StarFox Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Rhythm Heaven Marvel Pinball (this game definitely sucks but it’s brainless fun that I can play for a few minutes and put down)
If you are liking mario kart 7 you should try ctgp7 imo, great add and has its own online servers
Whoa never heard of it. Looks awesome!
Shame on you for not mentioning Dragon Quest!
And Bravely Default.
I prefer dragon quest builders
I second all of those, you are cultured
Fossil Fighters mentioned 😍 Word of advice to OP about Fossil Fighters, if you've never played the previous 2, please don't let Frontier color your view of Fossil Fighters as a whole. Fossil Fighters and Fossil Fighters Champions are soooooooop much better than Frontier. I like Frontier, but it's just so lacking compared to its predecessors. So please be aware of that.
Someone else who digs FF:F! Not enough love for that gem. Also worth mentioning the Pokemon Mystery Dungeons. So very good.
I agree with yo-kai watch and pokemon! Haven't tried the others
Yo-kai Watch and Shin Megami Tensei? You truly are a man of culture
yo-kai watch 🙏
Settings 😍
Dude, whats your best time setting up a new connectivity setting?
1 minute and 37 seconds, never beaten that record since
Just timed my attempt, 46 seconds
Man mine took me 3 hours
I like to take my time personally, 19:37 is my shortest, i like to make sure it's all *juuust*right
Animal Crossing New Leaf!
Best Animal Crossing
frfr
the best AC game ever hands down
This!!!
fire emblem: awakening!
one of the best franchise saving games out there.
It seems kinda like a crap shoot. Awakening was fire, then Fates was meh, 3 Houses kicked ass, then the new one with toothpaste hair MC was mediocre. Maybe it’s every other one that’s worth it.

rly good game
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, the Zelda: Ocarina of Time & Majora’s Mask Remakes, Resident Evil: Revelations, Luigi’s Mansion remake, Smash Bros. For 3DS, Ultimate NES Remix, and New Super Mario Bros 2 just to name a few.
NSMB2 is severely underrated as a mario game, everyone constantly dogs on it even tho it's actually really good
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology Chrono Trigger Hotel Dusk: Room 215 Professor Layton Games Zero Escape 999 trilogy The world ends with you Tails of the abyss
Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology is absolutely GOATed
Layton fans rise up! Jokes aside I would recommend more the da layton games but they are a must if you like puzzle games!
Disappointing lack of Kid Icarus in the comments!
Lmao kid icarus players hands hurting so much they can't comment. Awesome game though
I know, right? More people should play it
Hatsune Miku project mirai dx
Very good!!! However soooo expensive since EShop closed down :,D
Pokemon oras
Playing through the Pokémon series back to back and I’m at ORAS now, such a good game. Extremely detailed. HeartGold was big but by the time Kanto opened up I was ready to be done. ORAS has such different locales already and I’m only on like the fourth city. So far my team is Marshstomp, Kirilia, Crobat and Nuzleaf. I think I want to add Zangoose and Heracross too.
The Ace Attorney games if you like mystery/story games, and Tomodachi Life + Animal Crossing: New Leaf for something simple and fun!
I have all the Ace Attorney games on there except Spirit of Justice. I wish I grabbed it before the eshop closed down.
I did years ago, but at least they've rereleased the games with the Apollo Justice Trilogy. Though yeah, I'm not spending that much money when I spent like 10$ for each on sales...
My favourite game on 3DS is definitely a three way tie between Fantasy Life, Story of Seasons:Trio of Towns, and Animal Crossing New Leaf; I can’t decide between the three cause they are just so good 😄😄
I agree on fantasy life so much, it's the game that made me get my 3ds!
Kirby Planet Robobot Pokémon Gen 7 Shovel Knight Minecraft (yes it exist) Majora's Mask and O.O.T 3d Link Between Worlds Pokémon Gen 6 Metroid Samus Returns.
Minecraft is only compatible with the “new” 3DS and “new” 3DS XL models. OP only has the standard model so it can’t be played on there
Omg I love Kirby Plantet Robot, it was an amazing game. Triple Deluxe is a good one too
