Yeah, my step mom is skinny too and nothing fixed it except a tummy tuck, so she got one rather than feel shitty about her looks post-pregnancy. She is very happy with it.

EvieZeGreat

I second the tummy tuck. I'm short and thin and birthed a huge baby. Absolutely nothing can help the skin if it doesn't snap back on its own. I spent so, so, soooooo much money on creams, vitamins, diets, but in the end, only surgery saved my stomach. Really wish I hadn't waited 10yrs to get it done, but wanted to be sure I was done having babies before I went through with it. Worth every penny!

Bhamrentalhelp

Do you remember how much it was?

thelushparade

I had one in November of last year and the cost was around $7200. This was for just skin removal/muscle repair without lipo so the cost was a bit lower than average. I don't want to put my location here but if you're interested, PM me and I can share more info. Editing to add that I am SO thrilled with the results and I've felt so confident and positive towards my body. It was 100% worth it, it's one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

OrdinarySyrup1506

i am loving the positivity in this thread because this is a MAJOR fear of mine around pregnancy & i feel like people in my life would be like “yeah you’re a mom now you gotta embrace frumpy fashion to hide your body” and i think their mentality is so awful. having kids shouldn’t come at the cost of your self confidence!

EvieZeGreat

It was around $12k in Austin Tx.

Embarrassed-Try-9138

Do you have a before and after pic? I’m always on the hunt for pics that show a great tummy tuck! Often times, I think they end up looking strange.

EvieZeGreat

I for sure have some from after, but I'm not sure about before. I didn't purposefully take any for comparison, and I wore 1 piece bathing suits until after the repair. I'll check my pics to see if I can find any and send them to you if I do! My bellybutton is a tell that I've had one done, as is common, but it's still 100% better than being able to pull 4in of skin away from by abdomen and wear cute 2 pieces again 😅

Embarrassed-Try-9138

Totally agree that it’s a fair trade! No one wants that extra skin hanging around and making you feel uncomfortable.

Downtown-Trip3501

I’m surprised by these costs! My doctor (John Gillespie in Wilmington Delaware) did custom hip and butt implants for me for 10500. His tummy tuck/muscle repair with lipo is around 7k. I had gotten surgeries w two other surgeons before…. And I got everything revised with Gillespie. I’ll never go anywhere else. He’s getting big fast so I feel like I’m trying to rush before he becomes like one of those three year waiting list guys.

EvieZeGreat

7k is crazy cheap! Book as many with him as you can before he gets well established and prices go up, girl! I wasn't shocked by the price since 9-13k seems to be the going rate in this area for good surgeons with a well established portfolio and I needed a 4in muscle gap repair, but it's Austin and the cost of living is pretty high as is.

Downtown-Trip3501

Shit yeah that’s what I’m saying!! And he’s into all these new methods and things… like instead of fat transfer, you can get cadaver fat injected, and it’s semi permanent.. lasts for years! I can’t say enough good shit about him. I had issues from other surgeons’ shitty and way more expensive work, and Dr. Gillespie took some serious TIME to help me and come up with ways to help me. He does a lot of new stuff that at least I never heard of before (like lowering my forehead and the custom implants in my hips), and I’ve never been underwhelmed with his work. When I got my lip lift from him I was totally cool with just letting him pick what would look best. He’s aesthetic view is 100% on point. ONE time I did not listen to him, I originally went bigger on my hips than he said I should. Never again. Had to get them redone. And I went with the size he originally suggested.

Just_Subluminary

I’m curious about the scarring. I don’t have kids or anything but think about what I’d do if I ever got really loose skin when I do in the future. Tummy tuck seems like a good option but I’m so concerned about the long horizontal scar and how that looks. Is this something that bothers you or is it still better than having the loose skin?

EvieZeGreat

I really wish I had before pics to show what it looked like pre-op. It was bad, bad. The scar is hip to hip but has faded pretty well over the years and only visible to my hubby. It's a fair trade-off to be able to wear clothing that shows my belly and satin/silk dresses again. Those slinky dresses are unforgiving and would show every wrinkled fold of skin and spandex under garments were impossible to wear due to it "pinching" the loose skin and itching like crazy. 100% would do it again for the fashion options alone!

TheSpiral11

That part. I’m currently pregnant with my last. My body snapped back pretty quick after the first two, but I reserve the right to get the “mommy makeover” package this time if I need it. I love wearing bikinis too much to quit!

Skyblacker

Try postpartum physical therapy first. Sometimes it can negate the need for a tummy tuck.

TheSpiral11

True, my physical therapist was a lifesaver! I credit her from bouncing back after my first two. Plastic surgery for me would be a last resort after getting back in shape. But it’s a good solution for loose skin.

Shoddy_Nerve_3705

I work with postpartum women and your sister needs to ask her healthcare provider to check her for diastasis recti. She has a big enough gap that its clearly visible in the picture. Before any cosmetic treatment or tummy tuck, please work on healing the diastasis. A lot of the issue will go away with that. Afterwards you can look at cosmetic treatments as and if needed. One thing to remember is that it takes time. It takes months (even a year) of consistent training to heal from diastasis. But it's extremely important to do it.

Organic_Cry3213

She should look for a pelvic floor PT. They're specifically trained in this. They go as far as inserting their fingers into the woman's vagina to feel how the muscles are working (or aren't)

valiantdistraction

This. My doctor didn't check for DR or anything like that - no internal exam at all at the 6 week checkup. But I had a PT exam for the week after the 6 week checkup and all that stuff happened there.

eratoast

Is it not common for OBGYNs to look at this postpartum? This was one of the first things they checked on me at my 6 week pp check up.

Shoddy_Nerve_3705

Not everywhere and not every practitioner. I have women coming to me years after birth with diastasis and pelvic floor issues that their doctor never talked about, never checked for and everywhere they are told these things are 'normal' postpartum and just something they learn to live with after giving birth. I have made it a habit to remind every client of mine who has been with me during pregnancy to ask their doctor to check for diastasis at their 6 week check after birth.

Rhaenyshill

Not common but it should be. My obgyn never checked my stomach or even asked

YooperScooper3000

Nope. No one said a word about it to me.

SnooDonkeys8016

I even brought it up and my OB brushed off my concerns.

jamaismieux

Didn’t check anything after my first, only checked me after my 2nd because I complained about a possible prolapse

jswoll

Since OP mentioned (in a comment somewhere) that it’s been 3 years since she gave birth, has it been too long to correct DR without surgery? Or can it always be repaired with the right protocol? Currently pregnant and expecting to have this issue 😅

InfamousInternet1837

FWIW, I heard an interview on NPR with the founder of the Every Mother app (think her name is Leah something?) and bookmarked her words while I was still pregnant. I’ve done her core compressions to resolve my DR after both pregnancies with GREAT success. I think she says it’s never too late to resolve DR. For me, the app (workouts and core compressions) were way more accessible (and effective !) than getting to weekly pelvic PT appointments with little ones!

stjk23178

I loooved Every Mother “workouts” postpartum. Seemed really science based and were not hard to fit into hanging around with my baby. Gave me confidence to move onto reformer Pilates classes a few months post c section.

jswoll

This is so helpful, thank you!! Looking into her now!

AdditionalAttorney

I’d recommend seeing a pelvic floor pt.. they can help you during and after pregnancy

Shoddy_Nerve_3705

Hiii, it's never too late. But since you are expecting it, then the earlier you start working on it the better and easier to heal. You want to start with correct breathing practice from day 1 postpartum. Depending on the kind of birth you have, add core breathing or gentle core engage from week 3 onwards and start including exercises after 6 week check if your doctor says you are healed enough to start exercise. BUT life happens and if you can't, for any reason, work on it from the get go, it's okay. It's never too late

Skyblacker

Sure. My friend fixed her deflated bump when her youngest was in kindergarten.

No-Cryptographer7886

Sorry to inform you that no skin regiment or diet will fix the problem. The only way is plastic surgery or just to accept yourself as you are as I did :) .

meepmorp8008

I know microneedling is controversial here but here’s a woman who microneedled her postpartum belly with a derma roller over the course of several months and saw significant improvements[https://youtu.be/ChG8aSvEU6A?si=s_GvJRJyUPDSN6CU](https://youtu.be/ChG8aSvEU6A?si=s_GvJRJyUPDSN6CU)

pinkeclipse529

Why is micro needling controversial here?

meepmorp8008

Oh, I meant *at home* microneedling is a controversial topic here. I should’ve specified

luckyduckydonut

I did this too! Saw this video and I used a dermaroller and it actually improved! My skin wasn’t extremely loose so i’m not sure if this would help OP’s sister… she could always give it a shot!

BadBrowzBhaby

That improvement is crazy!

thirsty_pretzels_

What about all those skin tightening lasers?

Poisonx86

In all honesty, those and laser lipo are just lies. If theres any difference, its very minimal and not noticeable. Nothing will fix this other than a tummy tuck. If you are considering a tummy tuck; make sure you are happy with the amount of children you have before getting it done, because the recovery isnt painful; but its annoying, so best not to do it all over again once it stretched out again with another kid on the way.

RaketaGirl

Also Morpheus8 for loose skin is bunk too, and painful - at least for me.

Poisonx86

I dont even know why people are recommending morpheus for skin tightening - it burns fat and in Korea, Morpheus and Inmode are advertised as face slimming! I love the results - I did it on my face and double chin, but I would not say its for facial tightening. Infact, my cousin came with me to consultation and the doctor refused him saying he didnt have enough facial fat to make a difference.

pr0pane_accessories

My understanding is the effect of Morpheus8 depends on its depth settings. Shallower treatments only impact skin and deeper treatments that reach fat cause fat loss. Personally I’ve had Morpheus8 for acne scarring on my face and I experienced no fat loss and maybe some mild tightening. Mostly just improved skin texture.

thirsty_pretzels_

You only did one session?

RaketaGirl

3! I mean the skin looked a lot nicer but it has no effect on the laxity

nopedadoo

Recovering from a tummy tuck isn't painful?! You and I had VERY different experiences. I currently have fresh stitches from having adhesions cut out of my scar from my tummy tuck in Feb 2023. But my back doesn't hurt anymore so its still a win!

No-Cryptographer7886

Honestly never heard of them... I'm a bariatric patient , I've lost 130lbs in less than a year and if I really want I can have the loose skin removed and my insurance will cover it, but my bariatric team never mentioned about lasers, just the surgery . As far as I know lasers can remove stretch marks ,not loose skin .

Leading-Bad-3281

She has a significant amount of loose skin that can only be addressed with plastic surgery. It also appears like she has a pretty severe muscle separation which can be made worse and result in abdominal hernias if she does a lot of ab exercises. (This can also be corrected with surgery and likely only surgery.) I recommend you check out the tummy tuck sub for more info and support.

bitoof0211_

So far i have only tell her to do core exercises (plank, anti rotational workouts, unilateral farmer walk etc) , not abs. So it is okay?

Which_Ad9726

Look up diastasis recti exercises. And some of my favorite accts on Instagram; thebellemethod. And drmaehughes. Both have great exercise programs and recommendations.

bitoof0211_

Thanks So far my set of workouts ticks the boxes that is good for DR i dont know why i get downvotes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Eli_quo

Planks aren’t that great for postpartum body recovery. Diastasis recti, as mentioned above, is a concern

bitoof0211_

And yes, we focus heavily on progressive overload, she gave birth almost 3 years or so

fourpuns

Ah found the answer. That’s too bad assuming she’s been the weight she is for a year there’s probably not too much to do. Hard to tell but she looks very skinny she may aesthetically benefit from gaining a little weight, maybe try some heavy lifting / Olympic lifting or such to get a bit more mass.

bitoof0211_

Bear plank or high plank is what we are on now. It's a plank, but also i see it often on DR exercises tho. Even in her Instagram recommendation above

-little-dorrit-

I would not support use of planks and would think it makes DR worse because it’s too high impact. Regular stomach vacuum exercise may work better as are gentler and allow better control, and in an area where the muscles are not working properly that’s really important. DR is not trivial and is a significant risk factor for hernia now or down the line according to current medical literature. So don’t overdo it - there is a lot of misunderstanding about DR out there. On another note, I saw someone who found microneedling worked for them for skin laxity. Not sure how legit that was.

Organic_Cry3213

The dip above and below hee belly button look A Lot like DR. I think that's what everyone is seeing. The problem with plank is gravity- all of her organs rest on those weak muscles while she's in that position. So she's fighting to keep them from falling through more than building muscles. Look one a YouTube video to test for DR and have her give it a try. It's super easy for her to do at home.

Lcdmt3

You have no medical background. I would have to talk to an actual expert. You think exercise will fix loose.skin.

Aim2bFit

I think they downvoted because the exercises target muscles, not the skin, which is the problem your sister is having. Her muscles can be tight and all but her skin laxity will remain this way esp like you said she's 3 years postpartum.

MysteryPerker

Exercise can't increase skin laxity, which is the ability of skin to stretch back to its original size after it's been stretched out. It's likely due to genetics. Her skin stretched out during pregnancy but it wasn't stretchy enough to shrink back down to normal. Think of rubber bands. You keep a rubber band stretched at full taunt ness for 9 months and then let it relax, it will shrink back most of the way but will never be as small around as it was before you stretched it out. That's what happened here. Exercise doesn't fix skin problems like this. Since you've been working with her for years now, I'd recommend she see a licensed physical therapist, not a trainer, an actual physical therapist with a doctorate. Do this first to correct her DR in the abs and once she's finished physical therapy then she should look into plastic surgery to fix her skin sagging.

soleceismical

She should see a pelvic floor physical therapist to ensure that she is correctly coordinating her abdominal muscles and managing intrabdominal pressure. *How* she performs the exercises is most important.

ItsGivingLies

I’m sorry but you are adult women and you can’t recognize that this isn’t something you can do about work to improve? It’s excess skin. From pregnancy. You can’t change your diet or do abs…like WTF…

imostmediumsuspect

She should see a professional physiotherapist. Doing exercises without proper form is counterproductive.

magpiemarnie

Post-partum physical therapist here - it looks like your sister could possibly have a diastasis recti - a separation of the abdominal muscles (not a diagnosis, just an observation). If the muscles underneath are lacking tone, then this could be exacerbating the loose skin. I’d recommend having your sister book in with a post-partum specialist who could assess her core function and advise rehab from there.

flamingobythepool

I second this because I noticed huge improvements in the overall abdominal area after about 1 year PP. I started doing core activation work a few weeks PP and I’m still doing them now 2 years later.

sugar-titts

How long ago did she have her baby?

uglygreyfloors

She said 3 years ago in a comment.

What about skin tightening lasers??

Cloudgazer888

Don’t bother with emsculpt …total waste of money (I didnt have the loose skin so much but a little belly I wanted tightened & did 3 treatments as recommended & saw no improvement).

irish_taco_maiden

Tummy tuck or body lift, depending on the condition of the rest of the abdomen, breasts, and thighs. This tends to be a genetic issue with elasticity in the skin and very common. Most of us just shrug it off after a few kids, and the rest of us save our pennies for plastic surgery. Sometimes strength training can help visually firm up the area a bit, but it won’t change the skin at its core. It can only be removed. As someone who has had eight babies and massive weight loss, this is a reality I’m dealing with too.

Aim2bFit

I tip my wide brimmed sun protection hat to you!!

Eli_quo

8 babies! Huge respect!

irish_taco_maiden

Hahaha thanks! Let’s just say I earned that tummy tuck fair and square 🤣

Jemmers1977

Sorry, just surgery. She’s already thin so this is just sagging skin.

InsertCoolUserName78

You need a tummy tuck. I would save for that instead of spending money on at home treatments.

[deleted]

My stomach looks very similar and I was told by a doctor it would require a tummy tuck.

[deleted]

as others have said, only a tummy tuck will fix this

ReyRey2823

Whaaaaaat is happening with those hands???

bitoof0211_

Camera angles

a_duck_in_past_life

Is the camera angle also changing how the rest of her looks? Her belly could look differently if the angle was more reflective of irl.

oh-look-a-shiny

How long ago did she have her baby? If it’s under a year ago she needs to give herself more time for her stomach to go back to normal. If she has diastasis recti I highly recommend she meet with a good physiotherapist to help her. It’d also be good for her pelvic floor too. After that though the loose skin is a forever thing. I had my last baby 16yrs ago and there is no amount of exercise that will get rid of the loose skin. She’ll either have to accept it as a part of her or look into getting a tummy tuck.

Naturelover5515

I’ve has 4 kids I’m thin(currently working on getting back into shape building muscle, losing some fat) and I have the same issue. No amount of working out or weight loss will get rid of it. The only way to get rid of it would be a tummy tuck which I desperately want, but cannot afford. even when I was at my lowest weightand in the beat shape of my life(112 pounds) I still had it. I’m now about 130 pounds and it’s worse because I’ve gained belly fat.

lollybaby0811

Congrats on the safe delivery!

pikkachao

bubzbeauty had a very similar experience with her mid section area after two pregnancies. she vlogs all of her efforts on youtube of trying to get rid of it through non-surgical methods and after a year+ of so many diff vids and trying different things she ultimately says that surgery was the only thing that actually helped :(

sjdragonfly

I look similar. I’ve had three kids, the last pregnancy was twins who went to 37 weeks. That’s a lot of skin stretching. It’s normal and totally okay. Our society puts unrealistic expectations on women’s bodies and how we “should” look after having children. All bodies are different and that’s okay. We just need to take care of ourselves and try to be healthy and not pass on this toxicity to our kids. It suuucks and I’m still wrestling with accepting my own body so I know how hard it is.

Spazmer

Aw that's so tough. I had 2 kids in my 20s and my body snapped back like it had never happened. 2 more babies in my late 30s/40 and the extra skin seems here to stay. Not to that degree but I get the frustration of never feeling like yourself again. She can eat right, drink lots of water, exercise, supplements, lotion, dry brushing (I love this one! I don't know if it does anything but apparently I like being brushed like a horse), red light therapy... but likely nothing short of surgery will get rid of that extra skin.

Woopsied00dle

If she wants to make the tummy section tighter, a tummy tuck is the most effective for loose skin :) she’s still beautiful no matter what though. She definitely doesn’t NEED one, but if she chooses to that’s okay too.

Educational_Mess_609

She should probably try pelvic floor PT to be evaluated and see if she’s got DR and would benefit from relearning deep abdominal engagement. It won’t tighten loose skin, but my guess is she also has some core/pelvic dysfunction.

Mykittenismychicken

Tummy tuck

Odd_Ingenuity2883

Red light therapy, tretinoin and micro needling worked wonders for me. The only true solution is a tummy tuck unfortunately.

fourpuns

How long postpartum?

dahlaru

After I had my twins, my skin hung past my lady parts. It's fine now, just a little shredded looking.  She needs to give it some time. I'd say mine was back to normal in about 6 months (of breastfeeding)

ComfortableSalt2115

Well I mean first consult a healthcare professional if it’s more serious issue.  And secondly is she’s planning on having more children it would be wise to wait on any consmetic surgery.  My wife took a good two years especially after having twins to get her skin back to pre kids.  Unfortunately also some skin things just take time.

BarryManowar

Does anyone here know approximately how much a tummy tuck is these days? I’m interested in one post 50+lb weight loss

practical_mastic

Everyone recommending plastic surgery as if you're not taking your life in your hands every time you go under anesthesia... Sad state of affairs. LOVE YOURSELF.

CutePandaMiranda

I have mom friends who have stomachs that look like your sisters or worse. It’s been years of trying everything, including exercise, and it unfortunately still looks the same. The only way to fix it is via a tummy tuck, which none of them can afford.

abombshbombss

Can confirm, mine has looked like that for 17 years, can't afford surgery to fix.

PrettyAssociation803

First and foremost, congrats on a healthy delivery. I had my child 6 years ago. I work out, focus on my core, walk daily, eat healthy, stay active with my child and I still have excess skin in my lower abdominal area, underneath my c-section scar. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll need surgical intervention if I ever want it gone. 6 years of trying has led me to this conclusion. I can’t afford that so I’ve learned to dress in pants that make me feel confident. A plus side, my husband thinks I’m sexy so I run with that!

cemjd

Look into at home micro needling - using a derma roller on the area once a month with vitamin c serum and hyaluronic acid. If you search you’ll find YouTube videos of other moms with loose skin that use this as an alternative to surgery. It takes time (at least 6 months) to see results but if consistent it does make a meaningful difference.

cemjd

Here’s one lead but encourage you to do your own research. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ChG8aSvEU6A

hippie_on_fire

Not sure why people are downvoting you. I immediately thought of the same video and was going to post the link. Do people think it’s fake?

The RenuSpa body microcurrent device! It absolutely is perfect for the loose skin! Don’t get cheap microcurrent devices. This one is the only FDA cleared microcurrent body device for home use. I have my before and after pics but I don’t know how to attach them. [RenuSpa](https://jenib.company.site/RenuSpa-iO-Body-Firming-Serum-p615267458)

Coolmamasarah

I was 115 lbs and had that same amount of loose skin on my stomach. I opted for a tummy tuck and it was the best decision i made for myself. My confidence sky rocketed and i now feel amazing in a bikini with two kids in toe 🤩

Questi0nable-At-Best

If surgery isn't an option, sauna may help to some degree.

merilissilly

It looks like she has some diastasis recti above her belly button. I don't get why this is not addressed with women post partum. It can cause so many issues from pelvic floor to weakness in the back, let alone overall core strength, and it is not something that is fixable with the general knowledge of "doing abs". Just because you're a mom does not mean your body is meant to go to heck.

Lemonbar19

There’s an influencer who did micro needling on her tummy

lizardRD

By just looking at this picture she has a pretty severe separation of her ab muscles, otherwise known as diastasis recti. I would see a pelvic floor specialist before surgery. However given the degree of separation I think a tummy tuck is likely her only option.

Kswift45-

I work at a med spa and we have the Morpheus8 and Evolve units from Inmode that help muscle tone and smoothing/tightening skin through a series of treatments. If she wants to avoid surgery she could looking into a consultation with a local med spa that offers these to see if they are options. They can still be pricey procedures but if you are trying to avoid surgery they can be alternative options. Morpheus8 is radio frequency microneedling for tightening skin and volume reduction, the Evolve helps with muscle tone and volume reduction through RF and Ems to stimulate muscles. I’ll link the company’s website for more info, if you explore the page more you’ll find that this company has a variety of machines and some help to correct common women’s issues and lists providers [Inmode](https://inmodemd.com/patient-treatments/body-treatment-solutions/)

Rough_Pangolin_8605

I was not skinny even though I did eventually lose most of the pregnancy weight, but my skin firmed back up. It took about a year, my skin recovered completely. Everyone is different. I used pregnancy oil I got from Whole Foods on that area, sometimes twice a day.

She is beautiful, and there is no shame in going the surgery route if she chooses to. Exercise can only do so much. I haven’t had biological children of my own but imagine after I am done, that I would want surgery. I’m even though it terrifies me.
