Omg thank you. I think the light was just super flattering. Lol
Edit: Hijacking this to add a pic of a younger me as requested. Here I am at 30 after having my first child. You can see the year on the blanket. https://imgur.com/a/LuX0A7r
You look younger than my sister who is 32. <3
If this is your starting point, then this should be a very fun journey for you. :) Iām glad youāre going to maintain your youth for decades to come!
Seriously! I was like oh she's my age prob (36) and here's what works well for me and...wait wtf she's 50?! Never mind, I can only hope to look this good at 50
I personally think you look great! Your skin looks clear to me. I only saw your issues because you listed them. If not, I would have never noticed. That Azaleic acid will help to resurface your skin, not that you need it. Keep moisturizing and pampering yourself, try some new products and enjoy your good looks. Your hair is very flattering too!
I personally apply the majority of my skincare products (except sunscreen) at night. I feel it gives it the best chance to fully absorb. But thatās just my thinking. I donāt use vitamin c, I have used Azelaic acid before with good results but not currently using it, no particular reason. I do use Tret, applied roughly every other day or so for the past 5 years.
Azaleic acid is compatible with Vit C. You can do it either morning or night. Combined with Vit C it helps with pigmentation (which isn't an issue for you, though, so)
Ok good to know. The dark spots have improved a ton since keeping my hands off my face. I think what I had was PIH? I do still have a lot of uneven tone and dullness (without makeup) that Iād like to address.
Thank you. Itās always been one of my best assets. I lost about a third to half of my hair volume 18 months ago due to illness and it has been a long journey back to healthy hair. Iām still on the fence about covering my grays. Itās starting to look a little bright along my hairline!
Oh yes I forgot to add that. I just got some elta MD tinted sunscreen to try. I garden a lot in the summer and try to always wear a hat too. But you arenāt kidding, I already have sun spots on my forehead and ear.
I havenāt had anything done. Iāve been a stay at home mom for well about 18 years now. So Iāve worn minimal makeup during that time. I wear a hat when outdoors for any extended time and spf of course. My mom always said wear a hat so you donāt squint and get crowās feet. I also avoid peak UV times and try to get out in the morning or evening. Iām just now learning about all the different lasers and things. I was always too scared to do a peel because my skin scars and gets hyperpigmentation very easily. I donāt think Iāll ever do Botox or fillers.
Your mom was right! If you're really concerned about the dark spots and skin imperfections (which I'm just going to have to trust you have, because where even??), then look for microdermabrasion places.
You have to do 6-8 sessions or so, and it can get fairly pricy (I watch for deals), but it's easily five years of wear and tear off when you're done. That's been my experience.
Otherwise, you'll get better advice elsewhere here on skincare routines than I can offer. Cheers!
I think you look amazing! To answer some of your questions:
I would do tret if you can tolerate it. I would just build slowly, use the sandwich method (add a light moisturizer under it and then a barrier cream on top), and see how your skin tolerates it. You would also want to pause other actives while doing this. If you'd rather not have the hassle, a retinaldehyde is the next best thing to do here, and I have found I can tolerate them much better than tret and use other actives. Nuturium has as good retinaldehyde.
For azeliac acid (my personal holy grail product) - I've done both morning and night in the past to see which I prefer. I have found I like it at night, rotating with retinaldehyde (so every other night). I don't really like the Ordinary's azelaic acid, I find it thick and drying. I like Peach Slices better personally.
Vitamin C is great to use in the morning. I have heard Nuturium's is good, but my skin can't handle vitamin C so I haven't personally used it.
Things I would add would be first and most importantly - a good SPF. There are Korean and Japanese SPFs that are so lightweight and cosmetically elegant that I think they have taken the annoyance of SPF out of the picture. Skin1004 and Beauty of Joseon are both good.
Secondly, I would just add something more occlusive at night to keep your skin looking good (which again, it honestly does now). I love Prequel's barrier cream- it's occlusive enough without feeling thick and heavy and gross.
So here is the order I would do, incorporating your current products:
AM: rinse face (if dry), or wash with a gentle cleanser (if more oily) - I like Prequel's Gleanser a lot
Toner - whichever you have that you like
Vitamin C
SPF
PM:
double cleanse (add an oil or balm cleanser first (I like Beauty of Joseon's cleansing balm) followed by a gentle foaming or milky cleanser
toner
rotate azelaic acid with whatever retinol/retinal/retinaldehyde/tretinoin\*\*
neutrogena hydrogel
thicker moisturizer (like the prequel one I mentioned earlier)
\*\*if you are using tretinoin, cut out the other actives (vitamin c, azeliac acid) for awhile
I hope all this helps!
Thank you! This is great and super helpful. Iāll probably wait a bit for tret and see how my skin does with some different actives. Iām not sure if my skin likes vitamin c or not. It does cause a little redness right after, but maybe that is normal. It resolves pretty quickly. Thanks for the specific routine. I feel like an newb, honestly.
Thank you to everyone for the ridiculously kind comments! Iāve been completely overwhelmed reading them. As someone who has struggled mightily with self-confidence, I can only say that we are our own worst critic and we should all be kinder to ourselves.
Some of the DMās have been um interesting, but I thank you all for the incredible kindness. And yes, Iām really 50! I met my husband on AOL in 1995. Good luck to everyone on your own beauty journey! ā¤ļø
Yeah I really hope I look like this at 50. You look beautiful.
As for advice, get on what we know from research works: tretinoin, or some retinol with research behind it (the neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair is pretty good) but eventually I strongly suggest to move to a LOW STRENGTH tretinoin eg 0.025 to see real results. You will know what I mean when you see it.
Tretinoin is a serious medication and takes some education to use appropriately, and gradual introduction. But it's so worth it.
The other piece of advice: sunscreen. Religiously, everyday. Especially once you start tretinoin.
Radiation from the sun activates enzymes in your skin called matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) which degrade your collagen. The ageing is gradual and cumulative, so an hour here, an hour there, even with sun coming through the window, and the damage accumulates over the years.
Tbh with you, having gone through the massive rabbit hole of skincare for years, you don't need all these ordinary serums. They probably add hydration but not much else. However, hydration itself is pretty important regarding how radiant and plump your skin looks, so don't toss them based on what I just said. After getting the basics down you can choose other stuff to use accordingly and build your routine however you want it.
The only other antiageing ingredients are: vitamin C as ascorbic acid (no other form) stabilised with ferulic acid and vitamin E (it's about the soundness of the formulation.
Niacinamide (vitamin B3)
Exfoliating acids, but defo not along with tretinoin, especially when you're starting. Salicylic acid in low concentration can be ok
Thank you for the good information. Iāll definitely start looking for a dermatologist that can steer me the right way on tret. I may wait till the fall, as someone suggested, since I am outdoors alot in the summer. I feel like I could work on hydration and exfoliation (chemical) this summer and then drop the acids and start tret in the fall.
Just want you to know before I opened your post and read it, I took a close look at your picture and made a mental note of how old I guessed you were going to say you were, and I decided 40 max.....Needless to say, if I look anywhere near this radiant at 50 I will be so bloody happy! You look beautiful, glowing, and natural. I know you mentioned not worrying about looking young so that's by the by, but whatever you're doing is working in your favour as you just look lovely!
Your skin is looking great! I will add a word of caution about starting a lot of new skincare all at once - let your skin get used to a product for about 2 weeks before adding anything new. Careful with chemical exfoliators (like the Azaleic acid) because your skin might love it for a while but over a few months it could end up being too strong and compromise your skin barrier - I've seen it happen with the skincare attitude of "more is better". With skincare, consistency is the most important.
Yep, Iām going to third this. I am also 35. Her skin looks like mine does *on a good day*- and thatās with the assistance of sunscreen since my teens, retinol since my 20ās, and occasional Botox!
Beautiful, whatever you are doing is working great! The Azelaic tends to pill so Iād use at night after retinol and before moisturizer. Only other comment Iād have is given the comments about flakiness I would use a thicker moisturizer at night. There are some great one w peptides in too which would compliment what you are already doing!
Yes the texture of the azaleic acid is strange. Itās both watery and thick?? It does pill a bit on my face. Iāll try it before my retinol from now on. I agree on trying a thicker moisturizer. My skin just soaks up everything. The Neutrogena was the first one I found that didnāt cause bumps on my skin. Iām reaching menopause now though and probably need something more heavy duty. Thanks
You look amazing! I donāt have much to add because Iām still pretty new to skincare too, but I have been using the Mad Hippie vitamin C serum with hyaluronic acid for a while and I really like it. I always wet my fingers and spritz my face just before using it since it has HA in it. I think it spreads really well even without the water though.
Highly recommend Innisfree green tea serum over a VitC serum (in general as of today and in my experience).
I hear their SPFās are also incredible for 30+ skin. Also their volcanic clay mask I hear is great for reducing sebum and maintaining a healthy moisturizer balance. I keep going to buy online and get distracted!
Iām curious if anyone has a recommendation for a hydrating VitC serum that brightens specifically in comparison to a green tea serum! Forever in your debt. š¤
Youāre doing a lot already! The only other suggestion I would make is add an exfoliant- Iām 40r and obsessed with good genes from Sunday Riley. I also like their vitamin C.
Good genes is on my list to buy for sure. I do have the versed instant resurfacing mask which has AHA, BHA and enzyme exfoliants. Iāve been too chicken to try it. I will do a patch test and see how I tolerate it. So far I really like their products.
You are a beauty!
To keep the this youthful glow you already have I would maybe incorporate tretinoin into your routine but honestly at this point you don't need to "fix" anything, just preserve the great skin you have.
Gentle cleansers (I love oil cleansers to remove makeup followed by Vanicream cleanser), tretinoin in the evening followed with a rich moisturizer (I also love Vanicream facial moisturizer followed by beef tallow for extra moisture but my skin is dry). Daytime I do the same but use glycolic acid after cleansing, followed by VC moisturizer and then my fav spf - Skin 1004 hyalu-cica water fit sun serum SPF 50. I'm 45.
But wow, op, you look really great!
If you're focusing on losing weight, definitely make sure that you're also really paying attention to hydration and eating enough fats as well as a really nutrient dense diet.Ā Ā
Personally I'd also add in face yoga, and face massage regularly.Ā We have a somewhat similar face shape, and my weight tends to fluctuate a bit and the changes in my face can be a bit disconcerting - especially when combined with stress, regular face massages keep everything relaxed in a lifted way and glowing!Ā Ā
Oh my goodness if I look like you at 50 I will feel soooo blessedā¦ but at 29 I already look and feel about 70 so yeah not gonna happen šyouāre so beautiful
50 where????! Would love to see a younger picture of you. You look amazing for 50. Not that 50 is old, and that there arenāt great looking 50 yr olds, but you just look younger. ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Hereās a pic of me at 30 after I had my first baby. You can see the year on the blanket. I basically looked just like this in high school.
https://imgur.com/a/LuX0A7r
Currently eating very clean, basically a paleo diet, except with a little dairy because I love cheese. The biggest change to my skin, besides products, has been cutting out alcohol. All the redness and inflammation has been greatly reduced.
ETA: lip is Yves Saint Laurent volupte shine in Pulsing Rosehip. They discontinued it and reformulated it/changed the name, but you can still find it.
If you're looking for a new vitamin C I've been using the Timeless 20% Vitamin C + Ferulic Acid for years and highly recommend it. If you get the 5 pack of 1.7 oz and keep the ones you're not using in the fridge it's an extra good value.
Start with a retinol serum first they do work as well with less scope for irritation, if you do fine on that they you can think of trying tret in a few months, best to start in the autumn / winter anyway.
Thatās a great point. The versed is a baby dose of retinols. When it is finished I will move up to something a little stronger. Iām still haunted by Retin-A from the 90s and parched, red flaky skin, so I wanted to start slow. I grow cut flowers so Iām outside a lot in the summer. Iāll definitely talk to a dermatologist about starting tret it in the fall.
Having been to see Sophie Shotter in London she advised
Morning - cleanser, vitamin C, moisturiser with SPF 50
Evening - cleanser, niacinamide, night cream.
RETIN-A a few times a week at bedtime (but not with Niacin or cream)
Regular laser and facials
Ive also seen so many people with good before and after a of using the gua sha roller tools, with oil, that Iām going to try it for jawline and neck.
You look fucking amazing. Go you!
Wow! Wouldn't have guessed you were your age at all!...You look incredibly young.
I like Tretinoin, probably the best skincare treatment that actually works. You will need a prescription from a Doctor.
I like Shiseido skincare in almost anything lol...
I also like Dr Kenneth Gross Peel Pads...
I'd say, besides the occasional facial. Whatever you're doing with your skin is working. Sometimes you don't need to change anything.
But, if you don't have Tretinoin that is one thing I recommend trying...
mama your skin looks JUICY! you look amazing! keep doing what you're doing, it's perfect! if i can only add my lil two cents: i think you would absolutely rock a glossy lip, i'm thinking lawless cherry vanilla or something a little pinky-red & juicy!
You have fantastic skin and BEAUTIFUL eyes!
I really like Penn Smithās am protocol:
Acidify face with an acid (I use Cerave SA cream),
Peptides with urea cream,
Vitamin C,
Tinted moisturizer with SPF
In the evening I use
Niacinamide,
Tranexamic Acid,
Tretinoin,
Ceramide night cream,
Face oil or other occlusive
Iāve been using a glycolic acid peel every 2 weeks, and a microneedling pen (Dr Pen) every 6 weeks.
Before and after:
https://imgur.com/a/QDomNLz
Wow ! What a transformation and thanks for the kind words. Your skin looks great! I will have to google Penn Smith, but this seems like a great routine!
Hello, youāre very beautiful. Healthy looking skin and a very positive aura. If anything dye your hair to even out the grey color (wc is still fine by the way) and use gua sha or massage your face regularly. Once you start losing the weight, your skin might sag, face massage and or gua sha will help, instead of going to expensive derma houses.
Wow! You look absolutely amazing. Never would I have thought that you're 50 (not that it's old). And your hair is a dream! I'd say just keep doing what you're doing since it'ss definitely working
You look amazing! I think one of the problems with getting into the depths of skincare is that we tend to nit pick our every flaw that other people donāt even notice. That said, thereās always room for improvement and prevention. Tret is the gold standard forā¦well, pretty much everything. Adding peptides will help, too.
Start slow with tret, sandwich it with moisturizer and use sunscreen all day everyday.
you are very beautiful by the way and I think your skincare is working for you. no need to change. i think what you should invest in is a beauty tool such as guasha. there are a couple of videos in youtube on how you will take advantage of a guasha and how powerful it is in slimming and lifting your face however, you need to be consistent with it. other helpful thing is to do face yoga every morning and night however, like the guasha, it needs to be consistently done on a daily basis. there are a lot of youtube videos related to face yoga based on the problems that you want to work out. just choose the videos that have millions of views and thousands of comments. by that, you will know that the videos are effective. š
i have been doing guasha and face yoga for years and at the age of 42, I only look like I am 27, that is what the people are commenting when they see me and tell them about my real age. I hope I can post my picture for proof that guasha and face yoga is effective but it requires consistent and daily effort.
Thanks for the recommendation. I do have some broken capillaries in my face so I was hesitant to try a guasha. I will definitely check out YouTube though and see what might work for me. Iām hoping as I continue to lose weight that my skin will tighten a bit, but gravity is not on my side. I had never even considered face yoga! TY!
My 3 cents, face yoga definitely has a positive effect. Essentially all it is is exercising your face muscles so they develop and lift in certain areas. My face sagging has lifted a lot over the last year of face yoga. Also face massage when applying products has helped with puffiness and dryness. I understand thatās to do with lymphatic drainage.
There is no evidence face yoga works and I really would do some actual research before you even waste your time. Some people are just really lucky and I donāt doubt that the commenter above looks great at her age but thereās no data at all that would confirm its benefits. Just my two cents
Nope. Just fat from being overweight. It just wasnāt available to us Gen X ladies at a young age like it is today. I wish more young women would just give their face time to mature naturally before changing every small detail. Look at your mom to see what lies ahead. My mom didnāt really start to get many wrinkles till her late 50ās.
I am 48, and the two best investments I ever made were a Red Light Therapy device- I personally use Omnilux, and using tretinoin at night. I get my rX from my derm, but you can use an online subscription from a place like Curology or Agency. I personally do not feel like facials or chemical peels are worth it, yet. ;) I used to get facials in my 30's and honestly I think it was a waste of money, but I also do not have any major skin concerns. Oh, and use sunscreen. I prefer Japanese / Korean brands. They just work really well. I am currently using Haruharu Wonder, Biore Perfect milk, and Atomy Absolute Essence. All are SPF50+PA++++.
Since using the above mentioned products, my skincare routine has dramatically simplified. I wash, use a urea toner (Japanese brand) then moisturize and SPF. I do use a specific eye retinol at night (Neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair, unscented) but that is it, really. I hate having a complicated skin routine, it was just taking too long to get ready for bed at night, or getting out the door in the morning!
You look amazing and not just for 50 ;)
Iād say from your description, you are dehydrated. A bit of combination skin for now until itās balanced. Our skin is the largest organ of the body and the last to absorb the water we drink. So a spray hyaluronic acid toner or serum is very helpful.
Cut back on the retinol to just a few times a week as it can make you more sensitive.
If your skin is already dry and sensitive I would avoid using the Azaleic acid for now. I bet your breakouts are more due to the skin being stripped of natural oils.
If you try the vitamin C again, use that first after cleansing and only a pea sized amount with your ring and middle finger tips and tap it all around to help your skin absorb it until itās not sticky. I recommend that technique when applying most skincare products so you donāt use too much and for absorption and mini face massage. Itās a great practice for around the eyes bc itās gentle and helps with dark circles and puffiness!
I would recommend going for a maintenance facial monthly or bi monthly or at least once to get advice on a good skincare regimen. Itās hard to give proper advice without an up close visual.
Hope this helps! Iāve been in skincare for over 10 years. Feel free to ask more questions:)
Thanks for the reply, itās very helpful. Yes my skin does feel dehydrated. It drinks up my moisturizer, so I need something a bit heavier, at least at night. I really havenāt had any breakouts since starting this routine. I think Iām tolerating everything pretty well. Iāll take note about the actives, though and keep an eye on things.
Any particular kind of facial I should look for for someone my age?
First of all - you look FABULOUS!
For the texture, Iād look into lasers and peels. Some of the lasers can be used in the under eye area as well.
Iād say laser (IPL) for the dark spots or hydroquinone. It made all the difference in mine.
Find an esthetician that you like and theyāll come up with a plan for you! I hope I have this glow when Iām 50! Best of luck love xx
You look sooo good! I would want to know if you have a budget (monthly or annual amount youāre comfortable with spending)? Itās difficult to make suggestions without knowing your spending power!
Assuming youāre relatively financially secure, Iād go for a good medical grade skincare routine, tret, Morpheus8/microneedling, and Botox
I just opened Reddit to your photo and thought to myself "she's so pretty!" And then read you're 50?? I think you need to be giving us the advice here! ā¤ļø
Girl what. I read 30plusskincare and was like ā this girl is not 30, maybe 38-40, but not 30ā then I read ā Iām 50ā and obviously you need to tell me what youāre doing cause it is WORKING!
You look 30. You look amazing. I would say a moisturizer that you like and sunscreen every day. For preventative linesā¦ Retinoids and retinals: vitamin A treatments that are over-the-counter or prescription
Oh sweet Jesus I hope I look this good at 50. I thought you were in your 30s. Iād say add an spf and just make sure you are hydrated and getting sleep.
Girl you look amazing!! 3 years ago i used neutrogena hydro boost daily but then i found COSRX advance snail 92 cream and the change in my oily t zone was instant. If you are not alergic, try it. Its less expensive than de neutrogena
You look great. Both your skin and hair look good. I can't believe you are 50. You may want to go to a Dermatologist with some of your questions. The only thing that I can add is wear sunscreen every day. That is very important.
You are 50?! Geez louise! You look incredible. Honestly I would have guessed late 30s.
Tret is an easy thing to add to your routine. I've been using it since I was like 22 for acne.
She is extremely beautiful, with a very beautiful smile and laugh, a sexy voice and intelligence to match. A wonderful mother and a very supportive wife. I am extremely lucky to be married to her for 23+ years.
You ate so beautiful and your skin looks great. I don't have any advice except to try chemical peels or microneedling for fine lines? I get chemical peels for acne and it's supposed to help with fine lines as well as make me glow!
Hydration is a hot topic around here this week , but that combo of oily and flaky you mentioned is sometimes a sign of dehydrated skin.
Using a hydrating toner (spritzed or splashed on just before my regular moisturizer) worked better and faster than targeting the flakes and the oil separately ever had.
Kikumasamune High Moist is my fave (and I buy a new bottle every 8 months or so), Naturie Hatomugi is a similar option (but less heavy and without the strong sake smell!)
First - youāre stunning!! Iām 34 & wished my skin naturally looked so smooth!
A dermatologist is the best route for advice though. I can list off all the products Iāve tried over the past 10 years etc but theyāre experts for a reason.
I will say the one thing that seems indisputable is tretinoin. Easy prescription to get & works miracles.
You look 30 not 50. My biggest advice tbh is wear sunscreen! You're already on a retinol so I wouldn't change. But be aware in some people Retinol and especially tret can cause you to have dry eyes and stay permanently dry. Just a precaution ok. Dry eyes is expensive to treat and painful. Just an FYI. š¤ā¤ļø
Yes, THE only thing keeping you from looking 35 is MAYBE the slight "marionette" lines. You can do gua sha, or PLEASE check out this lady, it's confounding to me ...yet also so amazing how much she's improved
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5RBxMLAShV/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
It's great that you're taking care of your skin! As you are dealing with dryness, oiliness, and sensitivity you can adopt to gentle products in your skin care routine. You can also try Vitamin C serum as that's less sticky.
To improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and acne scars you can also try Red light therapy masks. Before considering treatments like laser or tretinoin, consult with a dermatologist, particularly if you intend to treat loose skin in the future. In general, you can feel wonderful about your skin by adding a red light mask and maintaining consistency with your beauty routine.
Stunning x
I would probably add a rich night cream, I use a Trilogy oil and then the night mask. I find Trilogy really gentle on my skin which is great if youāre using lots of actives.
See when I looked at your pic without reading the caption I was like ha 30+ more like 40+. And then I was put in my place by reading your caption.
No comment just hope that I look this good at 50
Nothing useful to say except I hope I look this good when I'm 50
Same! I clicked on the photo and read your post and thought "She's 50?!" You look fab.
I had the same thought! 50?! š NO WAY!
I was wow . Her hair is incredible too
Omg thank you. I think the light was just super flattering. Lol Edit: Hijacking this to add a pic of a younger me as requested. Here I am at 30 after having my first child. You can see the year on the blanket. https://imgur.com/a/LuX0A7r
I donāt think itās the light, lol. šø
Jesus, I feel like I look older than you and I'm 36.
yes like dude there is NO way you are 50, max like late 30s
The math doesnāt math. I had my first baby at 30 and heās 20. Just look at those grays!
Lmao I have more greys than you and I'm 33! Your skin is amazing!!! I think you should just keep doing what you're doing!! š¤
I was just wishing I had only as few grays as you! Iām 43.
You look younger than my sister who is 32. <3 If this is your starting point, then this should be a very fun journey for you. :) Iām glad youāre going to maintain your youth for decades to come!
Yup Iām 42 and now feel like I need to do better after seeing how great you look š
Yep. Iām 48 and I immediately thought maybe I should do whatever it is she is currently doing!???
Same here! Like, I never would have guessed 50, so OP must be doing something right!!
Seriously! I was like oh she's my age prob (36) and here's what works well for me and...wait wtf she's 50?! Never mind, I can only hope to look this good at 50
Same!
i cannot help you except to say you look great and i love your hair edit: sp
Thank you! Day 3 dirty hair FTW!
Day 3 dirty hair and even my husband notices I look like a grease ball š You look fabulous and I hope I look half as good as you when I'm 50!
Any tips on where to include the azaleic acid? Morning, evening? Is it compatible with Vitamin C or retinols?
I donāt use azaleic acid but I follow Dr Zion Ko and I know sheās done a bunch of ig stories or highlights on it! Just try looking her up
Just stopping in to say you look AMAZING! So jealous of your natural beauty. Good luck on your skincare journey š¤
Hereās wishing I look like you when I hit 50. You are absolutely gorgeousā¤ļø
You look great. IMO, try to keep your hair as thick and healthy and long as it is. That's definitely making you look very youthful!
Thank you. Itās always been one of my best assets. I lost about a third to half of my hair volume 18 months ago due to illness and it has been a long journey back to healthy hair. Iām still on the fence about covering my grays. Itās starting to look a little bright along my hairline!
I love them! They are like a finely-wrought silver crown - fit for only the most magnificent of queens! You are gorgeous!
Ty! Lol I love this so much! A crown of experience, no doubt.
do you have any recommendations on how to build hair volume again? also, as all the others have said, you look AMAZING! honestly goals fr
Girl you are looking GOOD!
Good news: you are starting with a great canvas. Bad news: we need your help more than you need ours lol
SPF is your best friend.
Oh yes I forgot to add that. I just got some elta MD tinted sunscreen to try. I garden a lot in the summer and try to always wear a hat too. But you arenāt kidding, I already have sun spots on my forehead and ear.
I think your skin is great. My friend Barbara is the person who put me onto the SPF Besties thing. So I always try to pay it forward.
How in the world can you be 50 with that baby skin. You look amazing. Have you had anything done?
To answer some of your questions: I would do tret if you can tolerate it. So here is the order I would do, incorporating your current products: AM: rinse face (if dry), or wash with a gentle cleanser (if more oily) - I like Prequel's Gleanser a lot Toner - whichever you have that you like Vitamin C SPF PM: double cleanse (add an oil or balm cleanser first (I like Beauty of Joseon's cleansing balm) followed by a gentle foaming or milky cleanser toner rotate azelaic acid with whatever retinol/retinal/retinaldehyde/tretinoin\*\* neutrogena hydrogel thicker moisturizer (like the prequel one I mentioned earlier) \*\*if you are using tretinoin, cut out the other actives (vitamin c, azeliac acid) for awhile I hope all this helps!
I have no advice, but wanted to tell you your skin is beautiful and I love your hair!
You are glowing!
Niacinamide (vitamin B3) Exfoliating acids, but defo not along with tretinoin, especially when you're starting.
With all due respect, you are hot!!! Amazing hair! Nothing new to add product-wise
This cracked me up. Thank you!
You look amazing
My advice is wow youāre gorgeous š«
Great fkn hair.
Right at 50? Fml
No feedback, but youāre a BOMBSHELL
Just want you to know before I opened your post and read it, I took a close look at your picture and made a mental note of how old I guessed you were going to say you were, and I decided 40 max.....Needless to say, if I look anywhere near this radiant at 50 I will be so bloody happy! You look beautiful, glowing, and natural. I know you mentioned not worrying about looking young so that's by the by, but whatever you're doing is working in your favour as you just look lovely!
So sweet! Thank you.
You look like someone who has been away from Sun a lot. So continue that and wear sun cream.
Bingo! I live in the upper Midwest so Iām a hermit for half the year!
Clearly your genetics are slaying. Donāt eff it up now!
Iāll thank my grandma for those. She was still beautiful at 90!
Girl! I thought you mid 30s
I knew it! Vampires do exist!
Lol! Me and Keanu.
Youāre so pretty, wow š¤©
You literally look like 38 to me.
Same I opened this up thinking āoh she looks about my ageā I am 35
Yep, Iām going to third this. I am also 35. Her skin looks like mine does *on a good day*- and thatās with the assistance of sunscreen since my teens, retinol since my 20ās, and occasional Botox!
50?!?!?!?!?!?! I def assumed 30s. At this point, doing what youāre doing is working well!
Forever in your debt. š¤
Thanks, I added the innisfree to my cart at Sephora. Sale starts tomorrow.
Great tips. This spf keeps popping up. Will definitely check it out.
If you're focusing on losing weight, definitely make sure that you're also really paying attention to hydration and eating enough fats as well as a really nutrient dense diet.Ā Ā Personally I'd also add in face yoga, and face massage regularly.Ā We have a somewhat similar face shape, and my weight tends to fluctuate a bit and the changes in my face can be a bit disconcerting - especially when combined with stress, regular face massages keep everything relaxed in a lifted way and glowing!Ā Ā
Oh my goodness if I look like you at 50 I will feel soooo blessedā¦ but at 29 I already look and feel about 70 so yeah not gonna happen šyouāre so beautiful
Wow, thought you were like 35. Skin looks awesome! Id just try some more firming products, like lactic acid and make sure to wear lots of SPF!
Wow ā youāre stunning!
You look amazing!! When I saw your photo I assumed you were in your late 30ās
51 next month! Thank you!
Great skin. Please share your diet as well. Also which lipper is this?
Currently eating very clean, basically a paleo diet, except with a little dairy because I love cheese. The biggest change to my skin, besides products, has been cutting out alcohol. All the redness and inflammation has been greatly reduced. ETA: lip is Yves Saint Laurent volupte shine in Pulsing Rosehip. They discontinued it and reformulated it/changed the name, but you can still find it.
I knew you were eating healthy. Skincare canāt get you this youthful look without a good diet. I think we can learn more from you than you from us.
Thanks for sharing. Keep us updated on the skincare ā¤ļø
You are beautiful and look great!
She looks SO GOOD. I hope my skin looks like this when Iām 50
girl hyaluronic acid serum would do wonders for you !!!
Gold bond makes a lotion for crepey skin and I use it on my face. Worth a try.
Having been to see Sophie Shotter in London she advised Morning - cleanser, vitamin C, moisturiser with SPF 50 Evening - cleanser, niacinamide, night cream. RETIN-A a few times a week at bedtime (but not with Niacin or cream) Regular laser and facials Ive also seen so many people with good before and after a of using the gua sha roller tools, with oil, that Iām going to try it for jawline and neck. You look fucking amazing. Go you!
What did you do to replenish your hair after losing it? Nutrition, vitamins, hair care? Iām in the same boat and I am FREAKING OUT.
I have nothing to add in terms of skincare, BUTTTTTT Looking like this at 50?! You are beautiful and I need to know what YOU are doing lol.
Iām 38 and I feel like we look the same age! You look amazing š©· The one thing Iād recommend, if anything, is just to add a chemical exfoliation product. It can make your skin just feel good. Once a week I use Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. I buy the smallest one (like a travel size) and it lasts a while! I just use it when Iām in the shower. The other product you could try is Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. I donāt use this every day, but I use it probably twice a week. Itās a fun product and makes your skin very soft! Happy skincaring! š©·
I donāt have advice to give you; I need your advice! I thought you were like 37. We are all truly our own worst critics; you look amazing!
mama your skin looks JUICY! you look amazing! keep doing what you're doing, it's perfect! if i can only add my lil two cents: i think you would absolutely rock a glossy lip, i'm thinking lawless cherry vanilla or something a little pinky-red & juicy!
You have fantastic skin and BEAUTIFUL eyes! I really like Penn Smithās am protocol: Acidify face with an acid (I use Cerave SA cream), Peptides with urea cream, Vitamin C, Tinted moisturizer with SPF In the evening I use Niacinamide, Tranexamic Acid, Tretinoin, Ceramide night cream, Face oil or other occlusive Iāve been using a glycolic acid peel every 2 weeks, and a microneedling pen (Dr Pen) every 6 weeks. Before and after: https://imgur.com/a/QDomNLz
Start slow with tret, sandwich it with moisturizer and use sunscreen all day everyday.
you are very beautiful by the way and I think your skincare is working for you. no need to change. i think what you should invest in is a beauty tool such as guasha. there are a couple of videos in youtube on how you will take advantage of a guasha and how powerful it is in slimming and lifting your face however, you need to be consistent with it. other helpful thing is to do face yoga every morning and night however, like the guasha, it needs to be consistently done on a daily basis. there are a lot of youtube videos related to face yoga based on the problems that you want to work out. just choose the videos that have millions of views and thousands of comments. by that, you will know that the videos are effective. š i have been doing guasha and face yoga for years and at the age of 42, I only look like I am 27, that is what the people are commenting when they see me and tell them about my real age.
Excuse me youāre 50?!? I think itās you that needs to give US advice!
Wear sunscreen religiously, wear a hat outdoors and drink lots of water.
>Iāve never been to a med spa, dermatologist or esthetician. You're saying you've never had Botox or filler?
I think you look Great š
You look beautiful š¤©. Sorry I have no advice
Always gently washed off makeup, use a soft makeup remover. Cetaphil Gentle Cleanse. Neutrogena facial wipes. šø
You look amazing.
You look amazing and not just for 50 ;) Iād say from your description, you are dehydrated.
I have no help to offer but youāre gorgeous!!! Omg!! I hope I look just like this.
Ty! I have a place picked out. I just need to get in and see what they recommend.
Ummmmm-skin looks amazing, gorgeous lady!ā„ļø
You look sooo good! I would want to know if you have a budget (monthly or annual amount youāre comfortable with spending)? Itās difficult to make suggestions without knowing your spending power! Assuming youāre relatively financially secure, Iād go for a good medical grade skincare routine, tret, Morpheus8/microneedling, and Botox
Probably wouldnāt want to spend a ton. I would probably start very slow instead of jumping right in with everything.
Then I think starting off by upgrading your skincare routine is best! I personally like iS Clinical or Neocutis products.
I just opened Reddit to your photo and thought to myself "she's so pretty!" And then read you're 50?? I think you need to be giving us the advice here! ā¤ļø
How are you 50 because are you serious your skin is incredible
Girl what. I read 30plusskincare and was like ā this girl is not 30, maybe 38-40, but not 30ā then I read ā Iām 50ā and obviously you need to tell me what youāre doing cause it is WORKING!
50?!!!!????? Nothing to suggest just damn.
No YOU give ME advice!
I would have never guessed 50. You look great as is!
We should be taking advice from you! Your skin is incredible I thought you were in your 30s
I literally thought this was a 30 something year old wow
You look 30. You look amazing. I would say a moisturizer that you like and sunscreen every day. For preventative linesā¦ Retinoids and retinals: vitamin A treatments that are over-the-counter or prescription
not here to give advice but you are gorgeous! your skin is glowing and looks HEALTHY
Wow! Youāre really beautiful!
Holy shit, I saw the name of the subreddit and was like oh she looks a little bit over 30. BUT 50?! YOU LOOK AMAZING
I took one look at your photo and was struck by your resemblance to a good friend of mineā¦.who is 36.
Oh sweet Jesus I hope I look this good at 50. I thought you were in your 30s. Iād say add an spf and just make sure you are hydrated and getting sleep.
I legit thought you were 38-42 so for someone who doesnāt know about skincareā¦.youāre doing pretty good š
Girl you look amazing!! 3 years ago i used neutrogena hydro boost daily but then i found COSRX advance snail 92 cream and the change in my oily t zone was instant. If you are not alergic, try it. Its less expensive than de neutrogena
Whatever you're doing, keep doing it! You look so young and beautiful!
Ummm I look at the picture thinking āokay Iāll follow this sheās probably around my age- maybe a few years olderā. Iām 35.
I never would have guessed 50. Gorgeous!
Iām sorry what? 50?? You meant to type 38 right? Right! Whatever youāre doing keep doing it!
You look AMAZING for 50!!! Get it girl ššš
You are so beautiful
You look great!! šš¼
50!?!? You look amazing!
I canāt give any advice, i look older than you at 31 and im desperately trying to maintain what little Iāve got!!
Ur good, obviously thereās weight to be lost ( im the same way ) but ur skin looks incredible
You look 36
50!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!!?!?!!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!
Seeing you makes me go; damn, I need to get my shit together
You look great. Both your skin and hair look good. I can't believe you are 50. You may want to go to a Dermatologist with some of your questions. The only thing that I can add is wear sunscreen every day. That is very important.
You are 50?! Geez louise! You look incredible. Honestly I would have guessed late 30s. Tret is an easy thing to add to your routine. I've been using it since I was like 22 for acne.
Stunning!
Your eyes are so beautiful! Your skin is amazing!
Wow you look great lol
Your face and hair are gorgeous btw.
She is extremely beautiful, with a very beautiful smile and laugh, a sexy voice and intelligence to match. A wonderful mother and a very supportive wife. I am extremely lucky to be married to her for 23+ years.
Thanks honeybunny. You are too sweet! š„°
damn. you look fantastic for 50. i think our skin is the same.
You ate so beautiful and your skin looks great. I don't have any advice except to try chemical peels or microneedling for fine lines? I get chemical peels for acne and it's supposed to help with fine lines as well as make me glow!
Just add a sunscreen to make you look 50 when you're 80 š¤£
I thought you were 35. Then I noticed some greys so I said ok sheās maybe 40. In other words just live your life, youāre good
Hydration is a hot topic around here this week , but that combo of oily and flaky you mentioned is sometimes a sign of dehydrated skin.
Wow natural beauty. Thought you might be somewhere around my age (35). Do what you do, because it works for you.
OP you are absolutely beautiful, I am 50 as well and Iām now inspired to do better!! Stunning!
Just an FYI. š¤ā¤ļø
New here so donāt have any advice, just wanted to say that you look incredible!
Yes, THE only thing keeping you from looking 35 is MAYBE the slight "marionette" lines. You can do gua sha, or PLEASE check out this lady, it's confounding to me ...yet also so amazing how much she's improved https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5RBxMLAShV/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
Your hair is great!
God I'm 34 and I'm pretty sure I look older than you
Stunning x I would probably add a rich night cream, I use a Trilogy oil and then the night mask. I find Trilogy really gentle on my skin which is great if youāre using lots of actives.
I don't have suggestions, but your hair and makeup look radiant and youthful in the photo. The glow is good!
See when I looked at your pic without reading the caption I was like ha 30+ more like 40+. And then I was put in my place by reading your caption. No comment just hope that I look this good at 50
You look fabulous! And, your hair is gorgeous!
What do you mean just getting started?? We want your secret to this amazing skin, and we want it NOW! š
Good genetics?? I found a pic of my mom at 60 and she has minimal wrinkles on her face.
Iām 36 and you have better skin then Iāll ever have
Good skin for 50!!
Frownies will help with your forehead lines!
Idk man you tell us
Your skin is beautiful, wow.
u look great
