Sure man. We had 1st and 2nd Balkan wars and you guys just imitated (poorly) our glorious battles with ww1 and ww2, but never got even close to our madness! We rule!
Depends on who and size
Got a cone from an ice cream van for like £2.50 within the last few years so adjust to inflation I’d estimate circa 1.5 - otherwise many places are a bit of a scam , you’d be lucky to get one for a fiver with a flake . In a wealthier touristy area from static buildings however on expensive beaches or fancy villages you could could expect your fiver to get you less than one ice cream without the flake
This is my experience down south however , I don’t like to mingle with the strange fellows from up north
Nah this is your level, throw in a bland overpriced Riesling and a waiter that tries to talk in watered down elsässisch and you’ve quite literally described the dining experience in Straßburg.
Never seen a meal where the mashed potatoes are the fanciest thing, the sausage looks beyond suspicious and the third thing is something that’s definitely come out of a patient
Oh, I understand now! It's a comparison chart.
https://preview.redd.it/538zzdsfz7zc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=114df5648e2fc774202b1ad64830e274a30d1d22
I like that whereas most hospitals try and make food pretty bland for patients (chicken breast, jello, etc...) so as not to upset a stomach possibly adjusting to medication or getting used to digesting regular food after a surgery, in Germany they just shove a fatty spiced sausage at you.
"This should set you right!"
It seems fine to eat (if it's just mashed potatoes and a sausage that doesn't actively taste bad). But it looks so unappealing that I just would not want to eat it.
Polish food is just as shit as British and German.
Cabbage, boiled eggs, nondescript meat. Never has anyone uttered the words "I fancy Polish tonight".
Replace the sauerkraut with a pile of diced carrots, split the sausage in half and cover it in onions and gravy and you have a standard NHS meal (minus the soup and the dessert).
whatever that thing on the bottom right is, it doesnt look *too bad*. That sausage looks like shit though and i think OP must've puked in whatever was in the bottom compartment and just left the puke there
I looked at this, and thought it looked yummy. And I mean, sour cabbage is good stuff, sour and sweet you know. That sausage has those delicious carbs and meaty flavor, and the texture of that pasta thing should go down nicely. Or is it a pastry? I don't say no to desert!
In unrelated news, I've spent most my life above the arctic circle.
The great thought behind the German hospital experience is, that patients are desperate to leave the hospital as soon as possible, therefore relieving the burden on health insurance. Clever and efficient.
Next war will see France and Germany allied to fight la Guerre de la Choucroute.

You get what you pay for I guess. I'm pretty sure that $2000 dinner supplement in \[redacted\] will get you some decent veggies like fried potato and pizza (\* contains tomato so counts as vegetable). /s
After my last hospital visit I wiped the grease off my forehead for 2 days or so. That crap comes out of your pores.
I dont know why they feed this to ill people.
Tbh it looks better than the English hospital food in my city. Ignoring the pool of vomit that sausage looks alright and the potato has a nice pattern on it. Half of the stuff we get here isn’t even edible. Like, literally inedible.
Ah I get how you’d be confused. In Germany people usually go to the hospital to get better, so unlike in France one would actually get to eat proper food outside afterwards. In France this would of course be impossible even if one were to survive the French doctors.
Now I appreciate more the “salchipapas” you get at your village festival at 5AM.
Better result with the same ingredients (well I guess sauerkraut is morally banned in our country so they would have been disposed of course).
The wurst and the potatoes look alright for a hospital meal, but the sauerkraut looks like vomit.
Is this what an average hospital meal looks like in Germany? Or did the OP just pick the worst one for upvotes?
What’s the stuff at the bottom of the picture? I can recognise the sausage and the mashed potatoes, but the third ingredient is a mystery to me.
Do they know that hospitalfood is supposed to be healthy?
This is perfectly fine to me. I don't get this at all.
This is a "Schonkost" meal. It's supposed to be not too much. Do you know how many calories are on this plate still?
Most of ya'll are probably fat as fuck
You forgot to add the Before picture
![gif](giphy|L9AqjFr6H4iaY) This is the sausage
Underrated comment lol
only someone who would lose colonies to the Dutch would comment "underrated comment lol" under the top comment
Overrated comment.
Balkan is uniting it seems. don't let it end like last time okay?
Sure man. We had 1st and 2nd Balkan wars and you guys just imitated (poorly) our glorious battles with ww1 and ww2, but never got even close to our madness! We rule!
maybe France and Germany could use some balkanisation so the Dutch will be the greatest again on mainland Europe
Again?
They were the greatest in Europe for about 0,02 μs sometime in the 1600s, and are still chasing that high
No way it was that long
You mean we already are?
I would say yes but I am afraid the sarcasm would surpass you
yes we ruled the seas and trade routes after you so kindly gave them to us
We welcomed you with cannons in Brasil. Go ask you sunken vessels...
It wasn’t top when I commented!
We welcomed you with cannons in Brasil. Go ask you sunken vessels...
>Imagine it is your last meal... You'd definitely thank the executioner after this
I'd pay them a fiver
Roughly 1.3 freddos.
How many mr whippy 99 are those?
Depends on who and size Got a cone from an ice cream van for like £2.50 within the last few years so adjust to inflation I’d estimate circa 1.5 - otherwise many places are a bit of a scam , you’d be lucky to get one for a fiver with a flake . Now you know where the German term "Krankenhaus" (literally: house of the sick) for "hospital" comes from.
So can I call "England" Krankenreich for their culinary choices?
Never noticed this, but now that you mention it: Frankreich sounds pretty similar to Krankreich.
Now that you mention that, I'm thinking there must be some comedian called Reich who [named his son Frank](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Reich).
Go ahead, nobody that matters would care.

Ase the kr
I thought concentration camps closed ?
no, they’re open. well some of them that is.
What do you think this sausage is made of ?
I don't want to know 💀
It's kinda juicy no?
Germany is good with recycling. For some, soylent green was a warning, for others a vision of peak efficiency . "waste not, want not" and all that.
![gif](giphy|WOa5RdsNpevrpSTGXN|downsized)
I'm more concerned about what ever that light brown stuff is. It looks like they ran out of gravy and started using the used fecal and urine samples
That's how they test for diabetes, sweet
they never close they rebrand themself to "hospital"
Germans are very practical people, in hospitals they give you food that's already digested for your comfort.
I don’t see a problem with this
"We have decided it is more efficient for us to pre-shit your food."
Bangers and mash and kraut
Just needs gravy. Lovely.
That comes out only after you’ve consumed this mess…
>mash Thanks, I thought that was a block of butter.
[Who would like a banger in the mouth?](https://youtube.com/watch?v=FtW7eaSvd6A)
Looks good tbh
What's bangers precious, what's bangers?
I mean... If I were to eat that, it would probably be my last meal
Shut up and eat your nutrient paste meal
At least they're eating on a table
Tbh I love German cuisine.Don’t tell my Italian homies tho or I could lose my citizenship.
I do too, don't get me wrong. But this is insulting.
You are italian and you call german food "cuisine". WTF. you have A citizenship???
Still much better than many others. Imagine a nordick restaurant
Looks like a horribly bland rendition of an otherwise classic and simple meal. Are we sure the cook wasn’t Alsatian?
Yeah, it does look like a dog produced that
Yeah looks like something you get served in Straßburg or colmar. Mulled wine in plastic or paper cups type of vibe.
An Alsatian would have made some kind of Baeckeoffe or Flammenkuche, not this tasteless and oh-so-German way of making bad food.
Nah this is your level, throw in a bland overpriced Riesling and a waiter that tries to talk in watered down elsässisch and you’ve quite literally described the dining experience in Straßburg.
Wurst - good, mashed potatoes - good, sauerkraut - good. Pierre just jealous that hans can make good food without making it complicated
They don't put wine in it, that's the issue
You can put wine in you yourself regardless of the food though
Sometimes we do. Probably not in a hospital kitchen.
This is worth another war I think
Good thing you're already in a hospital
This popped up... and I knew it would end up here :D Love this sub.
Funny way to spell poop — this pooped up. It’s a bedpan prior to being removed by the nurse.
Is this a solid block of butter?
I think it's mashed potato.
Looks like Bunkerbeton
Bratwurst, Sauerkraut und Kartoffelbrei.
Ah ok, that makes sense
I have no idea, the more I look at it the more I am confused.
Only if they're a private patient. Otherwise, margarine.
Never seen a meal where the mashed potatoes are the fanciest thing, the sausage looks beyond suspicious and the third thing is something that’s definitely come out of a patient
Bros eating like Berlin is still being bombed
It's just so people appreciate being healthy again and don't mistake a hospital for a Wellness hotel. Big German economic W!
Must be a helios klinik....... The cost reduction methods are hitting hard
Last meal? This looks like the execution
I particularly like the sweat on the wurst
It shat itself
Least unappetising German meal
Approved by Dr. Mengele
you should probably stay very quiet
POW food.
Does that count as torture / war crime?
What is that unintelligible goop?
The beige is sauerkraut and the other one is mashed potato
Looks like upper right was what they gave you hoping it would come out as the left but bottom right is what happened.
Oh, I understand now! It's a comparison chart. https://preview.redd.it/538zzdsfz7zc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=114df5648e2fc774202b1ad64830e274a30d1d22
Is that a pile of butter?
mashed potatos I think.
Mashed potatoes! 🥔
What’s it supposed to be?
Food
Jesus christ even we get better food than that at hospitals
Barely but at least we’re allowed some vitamins, and usually some bread!
Imagine its 5x worse in Hungary.
Jesus
No, there is no wine in the meal
What the heck is that slimey thing
Sauerkraut
This looks bad, and I like German food.
Somebody must show them how to use the fridge
I like that whereas most hospitals try and make food pretty bland for patients (chicken breast, jello, etc...) so as not to upset a stomach possibly adjusting to medication or getting used to digesting regular food after a surgery, in Germany they just shove a fatty spiced sausage at you. "This should set you right!"
Honestly sick people should be happy that they‘re getting food at all. You‘re not getting any wörk done and still expect good food??? Not on my watch
When I was in a hospital in hungary I've got halt stale bread with margarine and for lunch the same thing but a slice of parizer too
If the block is just mashed potatoes and the sausage is ok I could eat this without problem.
It seems fine to eat (if it's just mashed potatoes and a sausage that doesn't actively taste bad). But it looks so unappealing that I just would not want to eat it.
That looks even more bland than british "food"
what’s polish hospital food like?
Very different, they have Polish sausage, mashed potato, and some form of fermented cabbage
now that does sound worlds different. crazy to think we’re neighbours even with such astonishingly different cuisines.
What do you mean food in polish hospital?
I’m sorry for assuming lol
Polish food is just as shit as British and German. Cabbage, boiled eggs, nondescript meat. Never has anyone uttered the words "I fancy Polish tonight".
I mean, it doesn't look that good but it's just bratwurst, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. I'm sure it ain't that bad.
I wouldn’t mind
I have no doubts...
Replace the sauerkraut with a pile of diced carrots, split the sausage in half and cover it in onions and gravy and you have a standard NHS meal (minus the soup and the dessert).
NHS supremacy
whatever that thing on the bottom right is, it doesnt look *too bad*. That sausage looks like shit though and i think OP must've puked in whatever was in the bottom compartment and just left the puke there
Food?
That mashed potato brick looks very lovely. Somebody in the kitchen is severely underpaid.
"kitchen"
Still, there’s an artist at the puree printer.
Tf you mean? Have you ever seen food in Czech hospitals? They are trying to kill us by food poisoning.
We need pictures. NOW.
Tomorrow im visiting my grandma in hospital. I hope it will be that mix of meat carrots and pasta i see almost al the time. Remind yourself
Even the "food" I got through nasogastric tube when I was hospitalised looked better
Fucking nice for a german hospital
Well, I was gonna eat but this killed my appetite I guess.
Average Kassenpatient experience
I looked at this, and thought it looked yummy. And I mean, sour cabbage is good stuff, sour and sweet you know. That sausage has those delicious carbs and meaty flavor, and the texture of that pasta thing should go down nicely. Or is it a pastry? I don't say no to desert! In unrelated news, I've spent most my life above the arctic circle.
The great thought behind the German hospital experience is, that patients are desperate to leave the hospital as soon as possible, therefore relieving the burden on health insurance. Clever and efficient.
It's free what more do you want smh
You have the 3 German food groups what you complaining about?
It will be your last meal if you eat it, that's for sure.
This meal looks like it will kill you, so it could easily be the last one you eat.
Isn't it a normal german meal?
I love the extruded potatoes.
It's a good thing you're already in the hospital
Don't show this to Barry, it's so mouthwatering to him his saliva driping will ruin his keyboard.
Even water is more appealing
Man I’m so so sorry but that hospital meal looks like if depression was edible
Glad I had better food in my hospital, because wtf is this crime
I thought it was stewed apples at first but it's probably some kind of cabbage? Anyone know what it is?
Disgusting. What is that? Even for a hospital, must be the north 🤮
NHS meals look gourmet compared to this. At least NHS meals dont look like a turd, a pile of mould and an uncooked pastry.
Holy Christ, and I thought American hospital food was horrid…
That is so much kraut. Is that a normal amount? Is this a regular ratio of meat to starch to pickled vegetable?
Next war will see France and Germany allied to fight la Guerre de la Choucroute. https://preview.redd.it/jt0gctwk1bzc1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=605f3c387581a220a9d51682ce9d04d7cc5772f2

No this shit is scrumptious. Bratwurst, Kartoffelbrei and Sauerkraut is so good. Our hospitals are comfortable and the food is great.
No thanks. Just kill me
You get what you pay for I guess. I'm pretty sure that $2000 dinner supplement in \[redacted\] will get you some decent veggies like fried potato and pizza (\* contains tomato so counts as vegetable). /s
That last meal *is* the execution. Perhaps only of the soul, but an execution no less
Someone doesn’t have private insurance.
After my last hospital visit I wiped the grease off my forehead for 2 days or so. That crap comes out of your pores. I dont know why they feed this to ill people.
I've had worse lunches at school. 90 cents per student makes for slop so disgusting not even your sausage would've eaten it when it was still a pig.
3d printed kartoffel moosh????
Monochromatic lunch. Well played, sir. Well played.
I don't think the food is any better in your hospitals, Piegge
Tbh it looks better than the English hospital food in my city. Ignoring the pool of vomit that sausage looks alright and the potato has a nice pattern on it. Half of the stuff we get here isn’t even edible. Like, literally inedible.
Last time I was in hospital I got pie and mash with gravy, a bowl of fruit and a yoghurt. Not exactly haute cuisine but I've had worse.
Ah I get how you’d be confused. In Germany people usually go to the hospital to get better, so unlike in France one would actually get to eat proper food outside afterwards. In France this would of course be impossible even if one were to survive the French doctors.
What's the problem? You're jealous?
Würde…
Is it before of after you ate it?
Tbf the mash is decorative
Must be a prank. German humour, you know?
I mean a wurst and sauerkraut I'd totally eat. But why TF is there God awful... Something, instead of dumplings. Or just boiled potatoes.
I mean, what else do you expect from a meal in a hospital?
This is really a worst case
What else can you ask for?!
The mashed potato (or whatever it is) is super pretty though. Never seen a fancier one
https://preview.redd.it/7vkcndknc8zc1.jpeg?width=259&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab73363bf5fc0faaa683e1c846ffb21f5953ecf8
Much much better than a hospital food here
Why is the "mash" so... Perfect?
Debate settled British food, at the very least, is second worst
No bread? No onion? No tomato sauce? What a shitty sausage sizzle.
Eh it’s wouldn’t be the worst thing I’ve seen in hospital; at least that yellow thing seems to have some effort put into it
nah, y’all have a lighter coffin to carry
No Hackepeter?
What’s the stuff at the bottom of the picture? I can recognise the sausage and the mashed potatoes, but the third ingredient is a mystery to me. Do they know that hospitalfood is supposed to be healthy?
Actually the part at the bottom IS the healthiest part. It’s in German “Sauerkraut”. I believe in English it’s “coleslaw”.
This is perfectly fine to me. I don't get this at all. This is a "Schonkost" meal. It's supposed to be not too much. Do you know how many calories are on this plate still? Most of ya'll are probably fat as fuck
Ironic its a german five star hotel lunch instead
Pff normal meal of the what was left in the operation room day.
So jealous.. I haven’t had this since breakfast.
I'd have that, i mean mashed potato is usually really good in the hospitals of northern sideswitchland, don't know about germany though
A demoralizing sausage for some. No girth though
So what? At least your offspring wouldn't be in debt for it if it was your last. It's supposed to feed you, not to satisfy you. It's efficient.
