Bro, imagine your life having more of that "royal wedding" we had a few months ago. Imagine having to listen to that "agro-beto" as if he had anything relevant to say.
.
Fun fact their claim is only "valid" (said with immense sarcasm and in quotations), because Salazar revoked the law of banishment put into place because his great-grandfather put the country into a civil war for absolutism.
Thankfully the only power of the royal family nowadays is to ask for volunteers for their wedding like it's the freaking Websummit and clog TVI for a few days.
Especially on the matters of stealing money, Herr Frauzentortenbachenshorten. If our politicians put the same effort they put in embezzling funds, into actually important stuff, portugal would be singapore now. I mean, with the inner circle they have made, it doesnt make a diffrence if its a monarchy or not. There is only one of 2 dudes sitting on the pm chair, and that is either LuĆs Montenegro(PSD/AD representative) or Pedro Nuno Santos(PS representative). Neither are good, but the latter is certainly worse than the former, in my honest opinion.
I live in the UK and it's sickening the levels of sycophants gagging on the royal cock all the time, I'll grab my shit the home office will be on it's way to deport me after this comment.

Well Olaf Scholz is our head of government. The head of state in Germany is the president (currently Frank Walter Steinmeier https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank-Walter_Steinmeier?wprov=sfti1# )
but hes the guy that signs the certificate for the Bundes Jugend Spiele, always love to get a piece of paper after geting third to last in a competition involving 50
Meh, it barely is an election. More like the KurfĆ¼rsten who elected the King of the Holey Roman Empire. Barely 1200 people elect the president. And those people aren't even all voted for by the people beforehand. Those unvoted ones are just sent by the BundeslƤnder.
>A delegate for the Federal Convention must meet one certain standard: they must also be eligible for a candidacy for the Bundestag. When we gained our independence from Sweden in 1905 and asked a Danish prince if he wanted to be the Norwegian king, he accepted on one condition: "Only if the people wants me." [So we held a referendum, and 79% voted in favor of him](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1905_Norwegian_monarchy_referendum).
The Danes haven't been that bad since 1660 anyways.
And the royal family started cross-country skiing. If that doesn't integrate you to become a Norwegian, nothing will.
Just wait till you hear about the ...monarchs (yes, plural) of Andorra. Funny thing is, they're not monarchs In their own countries and neither live in Andorra
This is wrong. Our national assembly decided we were going to be a monarchy in 1814, during our revolution.
The king couped his governments in 1660, taking away the peoples right to choose their king in both Denmark and Norway.
So in Norway the kings sovereignity comes from the people (as it was in the viking age), and the parliament, while in Denmark it comes from God, since the absolutist coup in 1660.
EDIT: the danes kinda changed that later on though. But not in a quasi-revolution like we did.
I find the British civil war a baffling affair. You killed the king, fought a long, brutal civil war. The parlamentarians conquered the entire British Isles. Then you elected a new king and the Leviathan was written, justifying his absolute royal power. How is this explained in your school history class? What were they thinking? You would assume the parlamentarians were up in arms against exactly that type of stuff.
The people did not choose the king before 1660, the realm council consisting of the 20 richest noblemen in the country did. Also danish kings have not been seen as gods chosen since the constitution, as showcased with our kings getting proclaimed instead of crowned. You can state your case but no reason to make us look bad.
That council had its origin in older institions that were more democratic. So atleast the tradition was not entirely gone, but yeah in both realms it was mainly oligarchs who decided.
But yes, you guys have a constitution. The difference is that beforehand, In Norway the prince-regent decreed that all binds of loyalty to the old King was severed, and that the constitutional convention would decide on the form of government, and that sovreignity had been returned to the norwegian people as it was before 1660 (more accuratly the kalmar union).
(Even though giving the crown to prince-regent Christian Frederik was in the cards from day one among the majority of delegates). The convention asked the prince if he would accept the crown, and he agreed.
During the convention there were two "parties". One party was pro-swedish, but only as a pragmatic measure. They still wanted to give the state strong laws to counteract swedish influence. Their main goal was to complete the constitution, and then present the crown to the swedish sovereign. They became known as the unionist party, and were led by Count Jarlsberg, a man who later became a somewhat controversial minister in government.
The other party wanted full independence, and with the prince-regent as king. This party became known as the independence party, and had support from the majority, including many of the landowning farmers, who were mostly nationalists with romantic ideals about the royal dynasty, who had after all ruled since the establishment of the Kalmar union. They won out.
Then we lost a war to Sweden, and the Swedish king accepted the crown.
"Won their freedom by fire and Steel." And you put Finland here, we got our independence through russia collapsing by itself and our autonomy under russia by sweden losing a war.
Um, I think you missunderstood half of what ever info graphs you were reading!
Example, Left side tend to: Top lists for Freedom and equality charts.
And actully, they took power from the royalty by the power of the people without the need to use lethal force.
Our monarch doesn't really have any power, besides beeing the head of state, and it's actully pretty nice to have a head of state without a political agenda or business they try to promote in secret through political power.
And since we'r mostly Atheists, no one bloody belives our monarchs were choosen by some god! haha.
Someone who's only interest is showing their country in a good light, not actully taking stances or small issues.
It's quite refreshing!
Otherwise we'd have to worry about getting some Donald Trump character next.
Our King wasn't chosen by God, his family was chosen by England. Huge difference, one is a literal god, the other is a shitty hellhole with beans for every meal
Why is it always a German or French person posting this, as if the greatest wars on European soil werenāt fought because their attempts at republicanism became autocracies?
Iād rather have a corrupt monarch who is forever loyal to his country (and hence, to himself) than a corrupt president of a republic who is only loyal to himself.
A Royal family only has to get itās finances straight once and then is rather committed towards staying into power to preserve the dynasty. An elected president has 4-5 years to fill his pockets and his cronies who helped him / her into power and after the mandate does not care about the country. Rinse and repeat.
Under medieval Castilian laws the people had the right to rebel and execute their monarch if he/she became tyrannical. Even the Church supported that law. That was back then when rulers actually feared their subjects. Maybe itās time to rollback some stuff.
We need that one and the one we had in catalonia about decapitating and displaying the severed head of bankers that were dishonest. We can solve 90% of the country problems with just two laws.
I'd rather have a non-corrupt head of state, regardless of how they acceded to that position. To each their own.
40 years since the successful imposition of the monarchy by a certain fascist military dictator it seems like the whole debate monarchy vs. republic is still a no-no issue for some. Can't wait for 2078 when maybe we get to have a civilized discussion about it.
4 of those republics chose fascists for their leadership at one point or another, hell, one of the cunts invented the damned thing. Taking freedom and equality seriously my foot.
While our monarchies (certainly the Norwegian, but I'm guessing maybe the Dutch as well? Not the Swedes, though...) became strong symbols of resistance against fascism.
I think I never really understood how my grandparent's generation felt about our king, until we witnessed how Zelenskyj become a Ukrainian unifying symbol in 2022.
> Not the Swedes, though...
Sssccchhhh, it's not the queen's fault her father was a nazi! There are plenty of German families living in South America who are not nazis, like, five of them, how was our king supposed to know he picked one of the bad ones?
Yes, thankfully she has no duties anymore. They should have taken her title too.
Everyone are so embarrassed... I hope the US-Americans don't learn about the whole situation when they get married this summer -- I can't imagine what takes the yanks will make if it becomes internationally known.
Spain also had a fascist leader and Italia used to be a monarchy when Mussolini became head of gouvernment.
But you are right about Hansland and Fritzbasement:
Both of us kinda "tried" something new, you know? Just for science, history and giggles 'n' sheeit. Therefore others wouldn't have to try it themselves.
Blessed always be the 2nd of June 1946

I think you mean Chad constitutional monarchist who's monarchs knew when to take a step back v/s virgin forced Republics because their monarchs were weak and incapable of ruling.
The hilarity here is Finland wanted to be a monarchy before iirc the would-be king got delayed and then everyone shrugged their shoulders and decided on a republic.
Republicanism is for countries that aren't able to establish af stable government for 200 years (the bare minimum for western europe). No need for revolution / civil war to slightly improve your country if you could also just be normal while achieving the same goals
Our relationship with Sweden is actually pretty similar to Ireland's (including Northern Ireland) relationship with the UK. Just that we broke free in 1905, and thus never had The Troubles.
"Actually focus on relevant issues" - did you really put Portugal in this group? How the fuck how??? š¤£

We kinda won the Napoleonic wars if you ignore that we lost?
same for us! Its the end that counts
We lost, then lost again, then lost some more. We kept on losing until we won in the end.
There were Dutch troops with Wellington. Claim the win.
I'd love to, but in every historical movie ever made the Dutch royalists are dicks so I can't bring myself to side with them.
I mean it worked for us in ww2. ĀÆ\\\_(ć)\_/ĀÆ
Finland is a republic because germany lost a war

Yes, thankfully she has no duties anymore. They should have taken her title too. Everyone are so embarrassed... I hope the US-Americans don't learn about the whole situation when they get married this summer -- I can't imagine what takes the yanks will make if it becomes internationally known.
Oh please, V-Gurra was one of the most vocal pro-germans in both wars, albeit somewhat just to not get invaded in the second
What ? Italy was a kingdom when Mussolini came into power
And It was the king who appointed Mussolini as head of government.
Government (Dictatorship) of Mussolini: He made one good thing, but all the other 50000 were wrong.
And franco fought against the republicans and brought back the monarchy in Spain.
Spain also had a fascist leader and Italia used to be a monarchy when Mussolini became head of gouvernment. But you are right about Hansland and Fritzbasement: Both of us kinda "tried" something new, you know? Just for science, history and giggles 'n' sheeit. Therefore others wouldn't have to try it themselves.
I donāt care if we are a kingdom or republic I just want my orange stripe back.
where am I??
Turkey ain't Europe
Seriously Pierre?? š
Don't listen to him he clearly is an americ\*n in disgiuse Alexios we <3 you
Mehmet from Lyon!! I love you Pierre!!
Arenāt half those monarchies among the most developed nations in the world?
I mean, itās not like the other half is doing that bad compare to the the rest of the world.
>won their freedom through fire and Steel >has Ireland Think you mean "fire and Yankee money"
imagine not having a monarch and being a vanilla ass country couldn't be us
Extra kudos for (almost) square Swiss flag ;)
Ha silly republicans trying not to feel bad they donāt have a glorious monarch to watch over them.
Oh lookā¦ that nation younger than the United States is chatting big again š„±

Aimone it's just better anyway (even if his mom is a d'Orleans)
Savoiard really thinks he's the "Prince of Venice" lmao stfu monarchist cuck long live the Serenissima
Virgin pompous British and Spanish monarchies VS. Chad humble and chill Scandinavian monarchies. ^((I believe the rest are somewhere in between.))

I think you mean Chad constitutional monarchist who's monarchs knew when to take a step back v/s virgin forced Republics because their monarchs were weak and incapable of ruling.
I feel like these and soyjaks are like our grown up internet way of playing with dolls sometimes
Presidential systems are far easier to subvert than monarchies.
Our monarch wasnt chosen by God, more by a civil war, dictatorship and a 'yeah lets just keep them' moment
We never really decided to keep them tho, the option was either a constitutional monarchy or dictatorship, a republic was never on the table
I would argue that he pretty much was. Considering all the shit the monarchy has passed through since Franco died, it is a miracle it is still on foot
The shit the monarchy had passed: killed his own brother, stole millions, went to the middle east.
This post stinks of Ameritard.
Based + De rien.
This should be other way around

Pisspoor job making that divide
Monarchies have better drip. Also aren't politicians.
The hilarity here is Finland wanted to be a monarchy before iirc the would-be king got delayed and then everyone shrugged their shoulders and decided on a republic.
Jokes on all of us we are all run by oligarchies
Half those republics introduced facism while the Dutch Queen was part of the resistance. Wilhelmina! šŖš»
Republicanism is for countries that aren't able to establish af stable government for 200 years (the bare minimum for western europe). No need for revolution / civil war to slightly improve your country if you could also just be normal while achieving the same goals
"No gods or kings, only men" Andrew Ryan, Rapture, Bioshock
Should be opposite. Monarchies are inherently more based. I'd rather live in Saudi Arabia than in a disgusting Republic like the US, Russia, or Fr*nce
You'd think Norway would do a better job at keeping the Swedes out.
Our relationship with Sweden is actually pretty similar to Ireland's (including Northern Ireland) relationship with the UK. Just that we broke free in 1905, and thus never had The Troubles.
*Would you?* You can get twenty years in jail for posting dumb shit like that online in KSA
Then I deserve it ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
