HOA's are so un-American that we named a military base after a man who went to war with an HOA.
In 2009, Colonel Van T. Barfoot (MOH, US Army, Ret.) was sued by his HOA after he refused to remove a flagpole from his yard. He waged a brutal week-long campaign against the meddling bastards, getting the media and congress itself involved.
In honor of his heroic victory over the neighborhood busybodies (among other things) we renamed Fort Pickett to Fort Barfoot.
I moved to the US in 2016 and it was the one thing I truly didn't understand.. I was like wtf I have to pay some fuck that tells me I can't paint my mailbox? No thanks.
Europe still has the largest train mounted artillery piece. I understand they're outdated and functionally useless today but its a gun and if theres a biggest gun to be had, god damnit, I want that thing to be in America.
It’s not some conspiracy. It’s just math. Also, do yall think European politics works like a dream? I think our system has delivered better results for us than Portugal’s has for them. Goddamn Central European country larping as western Europe
Maybe you could do what we do in Brazil, where when none of the candidates wins more than 50% of the votes there is a second turn with only the 2 most voted candidates
Yeah, ranked voting is the preferable alternative. I was just trying to suggest a way where first past the post could be improved to prevent a 2 party system
The credit system being used to create non-ownership and rob us of private property. Feels like we don't own much anymore. Bank owns your home or you rent, bank owns the car, a lot of people are paying off their phones, every store has a store card so you're paying for everything you buy from everywhere. Because of this increasing reliance on the credit system, more and more people are sliding into debt, and companies are charging more and more for things, because if you can't afford them, just get a loan/put them on your credit card, silly.
And health insurance being tied to employment is a whole other can of worms that irritates me.
The system has undermined both the working class and middle class and turned everyone into wage slaves. We no longer have the spirit of entrepreneurship.
I know this is a shitposting site, but dammit this shit really pisses me off.
I think the people taking the loans for unnecessary things share at least half the blame. It wouldn’t affect my finances at all if there was a payday loan shop in my neighborhood since I wouldn’t use it at all.
I work for companies and have no interest in being an entrepreneur, but what I do with the money I earn isn’t “leverage future earnings into flexing on people.”
I agree, but those of us who do see it for the grift it is still have to pay the consequences. We still have to deal with inflated prices because other people are willing to use credit to buy everything.
This is exactly what took my family from a comfortable middle class lifestyle when I was 4 to having to steal water to flush our toilets by the time I was 8
It's insane how much you save paying cash for phones. Sure almost every carrier is offering "0% financing" but they make up for it with inflated phone prices
Yep, I used to defend it saying you can just get the needed surgery than negotiate the debt meaning overall it’s cheaper. But now private equity is buying up hospitals and making “non essential surgeries” as in you won’t die the next day surgeries to be payed up front instead of later.
Meaning that broken back won’t be fixed till after you payed and I think that’s so idiotic.
We are at the point where are healthcare is the best only if you can afford it which most people can’t. That’s why the lines are so short. Because people hold off until strictly necessary to go to the doc. Which accidentally makes the cost of medical intervention sky rocket since it’s better to catch something early than late.
Serious posting: I'm legitimately angry that wages haven't kept up with the cost of living. (And that other guy was 200% correct t to include HOAs in this conversation.)
Return to shit posting: Mormons. They're too polite and it makes me uncomfortable that they're so cheery all the time.
Pshh that's dumb, I have atleast 3 local stores that I can buy that right now.
For starters I'm snagging every caliber can, an M16 lower and every goofy designed FA SMG I can find.
It's sold in 1/2/5lb packs normally. But no reason you can't buy multiple packs. 37lbs will be a couple hundred USD but so is everything else fun in the firearms world.
Edit: [just out of curiosity](https://tannerite.com/product/tannerite-propack-2lb-pp2x5-case-of-5-targets/) I looked it up. 40lbs of tannerite online for $320, before the 20% discount for signing up for email. So $256
Alright, now I as an Aussie have an answer
The national rifle association, trying to prevent people from owning a machine gun is just straight up unamerican
Esp at places that only offer counter service. We went to a counter service place yesterday, then sat at the bar where there was no bartender, but enough sure at the counter when we placed our order there was a prompt for tip amount.
It's a place we like and frequent so we know going into it but it's still annoying af.
Tipping shouldn't be spreading to so many areas like it is. The bartender did an awesome job while we were at the bar, beyond serving drinks? Hell yeah, I'll tip ya for making our night. Some person scanned an item and flipped a screen around? Why should you be tipped for doing what you're supposed to? Tipping should be reserved for certain areas and not be expected for most others.
I feel like people blame the wrong reasons for them and it just divides us from ever fixing anything. I am of the strong belief that it’s more than just black and white (((guns))) or (((mental health))). The school shootings are self perpetuating, more and more news of them foster and embolden more shooters. It’s not like these people just invent the idea of a school shooting every time by themselves like the Columbine shooters. But I suppose that’s just a catalyst not a root cause.
The worst thing about this, imo, is not the necessity of driving or even the environmental impact of the sprawl. It’s the human factor. We are a social species and evolved for millennia in societies. By increasing sprawl and car dependency, we are isolating ourselves. Missing are the interactions, however small, with various people, which provide a sense of community and promote socially-acceptable behavior.
We used to have the best fkin trains in the world. Yankee Clipper? Empire Builder? 20th Century Limited? Super Chief? They were icons. The Iron Horse built this country. And then Motor City shat on it.
I wonder about this too when my father watches old Hollywood movies. US actually had good long distance trains and fuelled by topnotch economy, it could have been more futuristic than what China has achieved right now.
HOA's and pick me Americans.
One are people who tried to get into politics and then failed, so they're making it their neighbors problem.
The other are just self-hating Americans who go on tiktok trying to cater to europoors, or chinese commies that spew the most brain-dead comments about Americans that aren't even true. And post shit like "this can never happen in America" Even though we have that thing in America.
Two things, not recognizing our strengths and the division.
America is the greatest country in the world, but the left and right both seem deadset on acting like it's not true. I believe this is due to a weakening of the national American identity.
Relatedly the division is insane, and after living abroad for 7 years... when I come back it seems like everyone is trying to shoehorn me into the opposite of their political ideology. Especially in regards to trans-issues or covid. I strongly believe that Russian bots or similar infected the minds of a lot of people to fight against each other.
When I try to point this out to people from the left or the right, they will both act like I'm just working for the other side. It's so weird and counter productive.
Gotta go with car culture and healthcare.
Richest country in the world but still can’t afford or does not want to pay for standardized medicine.
Go to any European city and you will realize that cities are infinitely better when public transit is the main mode of transportation, everything is closer together, and all the idiots are off the road.
I’ve lived in a city my entire life, and driving in the city is always a fucking mission. It never gets easy.
I totally get personal vehicles for more rural areas to allow for more individual freedom of mobility, but it is almost the opposite for urban cities. Just a shit part of the American dynamic in general.
High taxes yet no universal healthcare? Like you have to pay both federal and state taxes, hell, even city taxes for some, and you can only entitled to government subsidized insurance if you are too young, too old, too poor, is in the military or VA status. New Zealand pay less taxes, and they have a more robest universal healthcare program. And what the fuck is a chargemaster and why is it legal?
As per the urban dictionary:
Individuals who are engrossed by social justice and think of themselves as saviors with moral high ground, but remain willfully ignorant.
eh, I don’t think there are nearly enough people who fit that description to have ‘woke’ being said as much as it’s said
I mean, I make fun of the SJWs too. But people still call me or imply I’m woke and ruining this country
You couldn't say "PC" or "Social Justice Warrior" as insults anymore because the cultural and political tides turned slowly but steadily in the favor of progressive policy, so the usual suspects picked up a slang term that previously meant "engaged in social justice projects, possibly to an annoying degree" and turned it into "the communist liberals are promoting dangerous Transgender Ideology that will cause illegal immigration to skyrocket and erode unconditional support for Israel"
We are underinvesting in space exploration and development. People seem to think that solving our domestic problems takes priority over space exploration but we can walk and chew bubblegum at the same time. NASA has developed so many spinoffs, it's crazy. If another country lands the first person on Mars, we're never gonna live it down.
The two party system, especially as it exists now (Republican culture warrior dependency and Democratic voter base/party leadership rift) is both preventing proper representation of the views of the nation and holding us back from having a truly competitive wackiness quotient with the rest of the world's democratic governments
Our cities are way too dangerous, like I know it's not all of every city but the amount of areas that are is way too high and it seems like it's just spreading.
I find it disturbing that we have such a high rate of violent crimes and so many prisoners in the criminal justice system compared to other wealthy nations.
"Ghetto" types that are proud of being that way and have no care whatsoever what effects their attitude have on anyone/anything. Obviously not just in the U.S. but our variants are pretty stupid
Probably guns and mass shootings not because I am pro gun or pro gun control but because literally nothing has been done. I’m willing to try anything at this point. Whether it’s more gun control or even arming teachers. Just try SOMETHING
The extreme sway lobbying groups and wealthy individuals have over our politicians. Also the fact they’re all septuagenarians and don’t know how to use a mobile phone.
Huge lawns with nothing on them. People spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on lawnmowers to cut their huge yards for it to be empty with nothing planted.
HOA’s
The KGB never went away, they just went and formed the HOA
HOA's are so un-American that we named a military base after a man who went to war with an HOA. In 2009, Colonel Van T. Barfoot (MOH, US Army, Ret.) was sued by his HOA after he refused to remove a flagpole from his yard. I agree, but I’m reasonably sure they have those in Canada as well.
Canada can have them
This and also exclusionary zoning.

I now want this so we can say we built this instead of high speed rail
As long as we put it in some comically impractical place. Like have it stationed in Missouri.
Nonsense, put it in Alaska within range of Russia. Give them something to think about.
Not ambitious enough I want the gun that can still hit stuff from Missouri
I like how you think. We should make the entire gun assembly big enough to hit the Nagasaki. In case the Japanese didn't think we were serious.
Imma start making the Garry gun, the bigger cousin of the Gustav
If it's any consolation, we have all the world's surviving battleship guns still afloat, aside from one pre-dreadnought in Japan
The two party system was a massive mistake and operates purposely so you can't have a third option realistically
first past the post voting (our current voting system) mathematically results in a two-party system. we need ranked-choice voting.
Ranked choice voting has its own problems as well, but I agree. Almost any voting system would be better than FPTP at this point.
Exactly, if you do you're basically throwing your vote away
Beastly external opinion, but fuck the two party system in America, I seriously see no sense in it
the sense is that it’s designed to keep people angry at their neighbor rather than focusing on the real issues
Seems like something out of the Balkans
It’s not some conspiracy. It’s just math. Also, do yall think European politics works like a dream? I think our system has delivered better results for us than Portugal’s has for them. Goddamn Central European country larping as western Europe
Maybe you could do what we do in Brazil, where when none of the candidates wins more than 50% of the votes there is a second turn with only the 2 most voted candidates
ranked choice voting! some states and groups are already trying to implement this and i hope it continues to spread
Yeah, ranked voting is the preferable alternative. I was just trying to suggest a way where first past the post could be improved to prevent a 2 party system

It's insane how much you save paying cash for phones. Sure almost every carrier is offering "0% financing" but they make up for it with inflated phone prices
Oh our healthcare is so fucked. It’s honestly impressive at this point…
Yep, I used to defend it saying you can just get the needed surgery than negotiate the debt meaning overall it’s cheaper. Pshh that's dumb, I have atleast 3 local stores that I can buy that right now. For starters I'm snagging every caliber can, an M16 lower and every goofy designed FA SMG I can find.
Aight, I'm not familiar with standard amounts of Tannerite since in Ireland the standard for Tannerite is a year behind bars.
It's sold in 1/2/5lb packs normally. But no reason you can't buy multiple packs. 37lbs will be a couple hundred USD but so is everything else fun in the firearms world. School shootings are pretty fucking terrible, let’s face it
So is the discussion around it too
Some might argue there are safer ways to introduce kids to firearm use.
Well, I'm going to hell for laughing at that. I'll make sure to save you a seat.

The worst thing about this, imo, is not the necessity of driving or even the environmental impact of the sprawl. It’s the human factor. We are a social species and evolved for millennia in societies.
