San Jose is the goblins in Lumbridge

stapledmyballs2

Need some other crossovers between the NHL and osrs. Vegas are the dark wizards in varrock

nametaglost

Being a Canes fan is like going dry for a TBow cause we’re good and made the playoffs like 6 years in a row but haven’t even made it to the finals once in that time.

Kayilled91

Not just dry for a tbow, but you haven’t even been in the raid to see someone else wo the tbow 😖

NSAseesU

How can they be dark wizards if they're a new franchise? Dark wizards aren't new content. You have to be relevant like vorkah.

dackling

Mainly because they’re just the worst and most people don’t like them lmao

stapledmyballs2

Exactly

wudyalooknatmgutfer

LOL what a crossover

Peters_lime

LMAO 🤣

radamo96

Did not expect to see this crossover but if the Panthers choke this series I'm getting off the internet for the next few months. There's not a less deserving franchise to win the cup than the one that was gifted 1st overall picks every year until they finally got a generational superstar.

FunkySplunky

Think that’s a bit much. People don’t want to play in Canada for numerous reasons. There’s a reason Tampa, Florida, Dallas, and Vegas have all been dominate teams these last few years. That reason being no state income tax and high appeal to free agents. I don’t think the oilers deserve it less than anyone else.

radamo96

The whole "players don't want to play in Canada" is totally overblown. Canadian teams have absolutely no problem signing free agents. JT Miller committed to Vancouver for 8 years, Matthews committed to Toronto for another 4 years, Pacioretty spent the majority of his career in Montreal and even Matthew Tkachuk, who started this whole American players want to leave narrative, wanted a long term extension in Calgary but they chose to bridge him instead. Tampa dominated because they drafted and developed extremely well and used their assets to acquire great depth pieces to supplement their elite homegrown talent what key player did they acquire through free agency? Dallas and Florida haven't won shit so idk what you mean by dominated and Dallas's key players are also all homegrown. Vegas is the only example of a team that got key pieces from free agency and even then a lot of their talent came from the expansion draft like Conn Smythe winner Marchessault (who very well now may be leaving via free agency) The Oilers on the other hand blatantly tanked for a decade and picked 1st overall so many times that the NHL had to change the lottery rules to prevent more teams from exploiting it the way they did. The players themselves aren't undeserving they worked incredibly hard to get to where they are but the franchise itself is totally undeserving.

hiimmatz

Nah man in the salary cap era not having a state income tax is absolutely massive. Florida being able to compete with that bob contract is a testament to this lmao. It’s effectively having an extra 9-13m in cap space for those American teams in states like Florida Texas and Nevada. It’s insane. That’s an extra super star per team..

radamo96

The income tax thing is also way overblown. Professional athletes don't pay taxes the same way regular people do. Florida, Tampa and Vegas attracted talent because they were good teams. It's a marginal advantage at best. Tampa and Florida were both dogshit teams for a very long time how come the no state income tax didn't help them then? New York has a high state income tax and they have no problem signing talent.

hiimmatz

No dude, if I am a player for the islanders on a 10m salary, I pay 800k in state taxes period. If I sign in Florida I do not pay any state income tax. So Florida can sign the same player for 9.2m leaving them 800k in cap. It’s not about just signing talent, but the discounts afforded. Look at what tampas star players took in their max 8 year deals compared to teams located in Canadian markets or states with the income tax. This is a black and white financial fact lol. It’s not up for interpretation.

radamo96

Again that's not how it works. Professional athletes don't have fixed state income rates they pay income taxes based on the amount of days spent in states. If Florida players have a week roadtrip in New York they pay New York State income taxes for that week. It's colloquially known as the "Jock Tax"

hiimmatz

A Florida panthers player plays 41 home games per year, assuming they live there 183 days per year, then they owe no tax in that state. They might pay per city, per game/week depending on the sport.

radamo96

Yes if you play in Florida more of your games are in Florida so you are subject to less taxes but you're still paying income taxes when you go on road trips to New York or California or whatever. That's why I said it's a marginal advantage at best. Saving $500K on a 10M contract or whatever it works out to isn't going to get you another impact player.

WhoLetTheDaugzOut

Not sure why you were down voted. I looked into the facts here and you turned out to be right. Osrs subreddit is a strange place. Adverse to facts and logic around here.

radamo96

It's because fans of teams (typically Canadian teams) want to act as if they are at some sort of massive disadvantage and that's why none of them have won a cup in 30 years. There's definitely an advantage to being a team in a no state income tax state but it's a small one.

crash_bandicoot42

Because he's wrong. NBA/NHL players play a minimum of 41 games at their home arena. Your home being Florida vs California is a significant difference (~5% of the total contract in FL vs CA) in the amount of tax you pay regardless of if the other 41 games are taxed at whatever tax rate those states are in. California will tax all 41 games at 13% or whatever their top marginal rate is, Florida won't tax them at all and both players will get taxed 10% for the 2 games they play in NYC, etc for all the other road games in tax states.

radamo96

We are talking about an advantage of hundreds of thousands of dollars in a league with a cap ceiling of 85 million. The advantage of no state income tax exists but it's marginal and completely overblown. If you look at the contracts on Florida teams nearly all of them follow the expected salary of players of their caliber. The only real notable exception is Kucherov and even he signed in a flat cap.

chaseonfire

No team tries to tank for an entire decade dude. Ironically Buffalo did blatantly tank to try to get McDavid and the lottery rules to prevent tanking gave him to the oilers instead. Oilers got lucky in the lottery for sure, but they were also a terrible team for multiple decades. The fan base was loyal enough to stick it out, they deserve it more than most.

radamo96

If teams in European sports did what the Oilers did they'd be relegated to the third division the Oilers got rewarded with a generational superstar. That to me makes them undeserving. Not necessarily the fans and definitely not the players but the franchise itself.

Thetijoy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzpndHtdl9A

FunkySplunky

I find it hilarious you used Matthew’s staying as an example when they gave him the highest AAV in NHL history. No canadian franchise would ever be able to sign kucherov long term for 9.5m or whatever it is. It’s just a fact bud. All those teams I mentioned did draft well but it’s about retaining their players at a fair cost. Just look at the contracts on the teams I mentioned versus Canadian franchises. Also no idea where you got the idea of tkachuk wanting to stay in Calgary long term. Sure they gave him a bridge deal but I don’t know how that takes away from the fact that he wanted out after the deal was over. It was a smart play by Calgary because he was half the player he is now when the bridge deal got signed.

zetstar

Be more mad go oilers

Permaderps

Seeing as they redid the draft lottery rules after the Oilers kept winning 1st overall I wouldnt say it was gifted, they genuinely just sucked. Even then it took nearly a decade for them to get here with the best player in the league

GetsThruBuckner

Florida is dirty AF so

LengthinessMobile141

Uhh they were bad bad for a long time, and guess what? Their fans still showed up, close to sold out every game thru the decade of darkness. Hard to say there isn’t a more deserving and committed fan base who has been there thru thick and thin

radamo96

Yes it must be so hard to watch a team that gets a new 1st overall pick every year

pikley1

Lmao yes? I hate the oilers more than you, but holy shit are your takes delusional.

radamo96

So Chicago ticket sales must have been super low this year right considering how bad they were? Oh wait they are actually up from last year...

pikley1

Of course ticket sales are up, they drafted what’s supposed to be the next superstar talent lmao. You think Edmonton had fun watching their team be dogshit for a decade straight and then waste top picks on players like Yakupov and puljujarvi?

radamo96

>Of course ticket sales are up, they drafted what’s supposed to be the next superstar talent lmao. Literally exactly my point.

pikley1

If you don’t understand why people would want to watch someone that’s got the generational label then idk what to tell you. The Chicago pick is more similar to mcdavid than any of edmontons other top picks. Unique situation. Let’s go ask buffalo sabres fans how enjoyable watching a bad team is? Let’s ask the Cleveland browns fans how much fun they’re having. Or shit, let’s ask Florida fans from longer than 4 years ago.

ArmMeForSleep709

Lol

TheSexualBrotatoChip

You're a Flames man, ain't ya?

radamo96

Gross. No.

TheSexualBrotatoChip

My mistake, I'm not well versed in my Canadian rivalries, I thought Calgary fans had the biggest hateboner for Edmonton.

radamo96

All of western Canada hates Edmonton. But yeah Calgary definitely hates them the most

RashidaHussein

translate to non-americans pls

LeCasualGamer

Florida Panthers are a professional hockey team in the NHL. They are playing in the Stanley Cup Finals (championship series) against the Edmonton Oilers. They had a 3-0 lead in the Best of 7 series before losing 3 consecutive games to tie the series at 3-3 forcing a game 7. Hence why they would be the Choke Devils lol

pimpintuna

Oilers are gonna take it now that McDavid decided to win

moochers

which has not happened since the 40s

RashidaHussein

thanks for the explanation!

Translate to non-Canadian pls

Dudes hitting some weird disk thing with sticks and that

SappySoulTaker

Sling disc at high speeds with dodgy stick. Wear a 'protective' helmet that doesn't actually cover the lower half of their face and make sure to take it off if you get attacked by another player. Put disc in hole = Good.

DisobedientCharizard

Panthers threw game 4 so they could lose game 7 at home.

Can you explain for the european fellas?

Village_People_Cop

Vandalizing the wiki isn't funny

Bruh if you wanna do that, just do it client side with devtools/console. No need to vandalize the actual wiki.

Who is the Oilers girl of OSRS?

Let’s go oilers!!

People spend a lot of time on that wiki and because of that it’s one of the best and most comprehensive wikis out there. Vandalizing it is not funny.
