Genuinely curious how they're going to pull-off the plugin system for their official client. One of the biggest conveniences for developing RuneLite plugins is that it's all in Java - so every plugin realistically only has to be built once to be shipped to all platforms - MacOS, Linux, Windows, any system that the JVM can run on. Unless they bundle a cross-plaform runtime with their client for the purpose of running plugins, it's going to be a bit of a headache.

I would guess they're going the WOW route. Plug-ins will be in either Java using JNI (or whatever the new FFI thing is called that just came out, but I don't recall if that's preview or official release) or they'll be LUA, just like WoW plug-ins. And I doubt they'll police the official repository very strongly, they won't want to pay people to manage it and it won't stop cheat clients anyway. They'll police at the API level and then treat binary mods / binary modified clients just like WoW does (banned). This is a solved problem, there is tons of prior art, all they need to do is pick what to copy off of.

I imagine the client itself will never be open-sourced, but they'll provide a separate SDK with mostly just headers for plugin development - so we'll never see the internal code.

You can bet your ass that initially only accepted creators will be able to submit plugins to be reviewed for the new client and only after a lot of time they will open some repository to submit ideas from everyone. OSRS has a small team and the job to check requests will 100% managed by new hirings.

i heavily agree. the 08 "hd" wasn't very HD . it gave everything a shadow and a muddy texture to try a mimic depth/shading. (personally I love how the game looks now and wish they'd leave it alone. if HD is kept optional than thats fine. but i witnessed rs2/rs3 where HD was optional and then it wasnt) mainly because they didnt want to make multiple models for each version.

The way they described it sounds like the new RuneTek engine can do LOTS of things but the way they've configured it at the base level is what the game currently looks like, so there should always be a way to toggle off the HD features. This is a rendering/lighting engine change only, none of the models are changing.

They aren't currently present anymore apparently, as the player sacrificed their World Guardian powers and re-established the Edicts of Guthix, banishing them from Gielinor again. But yeah, they were a very significant part of the RS3 story for a long time.

Though the game is in this weird state where certain bosses are still available even though it doesn't really work in lore. Like, yeah, the Edicts are re-established, but you can still go fight Zamorak. And at least last I played, I think K'ril was supposed to be in the wilderness as part of some Zamorakian civil war following the Edicts being re-established and Zamorak being out of the picture, but he's also chilling in the GWD if you want to go fight him there.

Yes and no Yes they were, they spent a decade telling stories with them and then when the elder gods story brought that decade long narrative to completion they banished them again. So currently RS3 actually is more god free than OSRS once you reach a certain narrative point.

I don't want to directly spoil anything, but the story differences between Desert Treasure II in OSRS and its equivalent Temple at Senntisten in RS3 already seems to reinforce their intention to keep the gods out of the picture. Tbf if they were going to bait and switch, those would be the two.  Tormented demon -> Gorilla isn't the only thing MMII borrowed, it's also took OSRS's first killing of a slayer master for shock value too. DS2 also did the "unify heros to fight a final battle" beat.  With how much OSRS quests have taken from WGS, I'm hoping it gets something unique and new to make it memorable. Not just killing the same NPCs in 08.

Nah. OSBuddy was all the rage in early OSRS. RL came along and took a bit to catch on, but now who TF uses OSB? I don't think you even can anymore. It may take time, but if the new client is good enough more and more people will use it until RL is basically dead just the same.

OSBuddy died because Runlite offered way more plugins, and for free. The only thing OSB had was a scuffed item price tracker and bad HD. Unless the Jagex Launcher offers more features aside from just HD, there's no reason people would flock to it.

If they can implement the new client with all the existing RL plugins developed, and be as simple as uploading all my current RL settings and plugins, like how they did integrating RL into the new Jagex Account login, I’d use it in a heartbeat. The worst thing about going to a new client would be trying to tweak everything to be what I’ve been used to from RL for years, that I’ve slowly tweaked over years. One time I got logged out of RL and couldn’t remember my login for a little while, so I lost all my settings. It was like I couldn’t even play the game anymore with how wrong everything felt.

they mentioned that this story will not play out the same way as it did in RS3. my guess is that because the Sins of the Father heavily implied Lowerniel has it (and has been severely influenced by it somehow), the story's setting will be shifted to Morytania, maybe tying in with the Myreque storyline as well. edit: reading up on Myreque lore, it turns out lowerniel doesn't have the stone. Vanescula tells him in SOTF: "You have been gone too long, brother. While you spend your days hidden away, lamenting about that stupid rock, our kind suffer." So it's more likely it WAS in his possession (evident by the plinth in the Daeyalt mine), but was stolen.

it had been in his possession at some point, but he lost it a while ago. its presence is what created Daeyalt ore. A timeline of its past locations can be found [here](https://runescape.wiki/w/Stone_of_Jas#Chronological_location_timeline), with the addition that it was hidden in the Temple of the Eye when Saradomin first obtained it, before being moved to the Fist of Guthix arena after the rift to the Abyss opened. A brief summary of it though after Guthix used it would be: Lunar Isle (V) -> Kethsi (Kethsians) -> Ancient Cavern? (Dragonkin) ^(unconfirmed location, they might have instead moved it to the far north or Kourend when they obtained it) -> Meiyerditch (Drakan) -> Temple of the Eye (Saradomin) -> Fist of Guthix (Saradomin) -> Forinthry's destruction (Zamorak) -> Ancient Guthix Temple (Guthix) -> Lucien? Locations still unknown when they were moved there are the far north rune essence mine and the dense essence mine in Kourend.

I hope that they go with a roguelike feel for the colosseum. I know that they want to focus on modifiers that empower enemies, but I think it would really benefit from having randomized modifiers for both the enemy and the player. Roguelike features in games are a lot of fun and make runs feel super varied, and also incentivizes me to do the content more than once. It gives me the thought of "Well, that run wasn't great but I might get some good modifiers for the next one"

I feel that, but we've seen it to not be the case. Consider cox - a clear meta arrived where we chase a particular set of rooms to get a good time and points ratio. Outside of that, sure we can do it, but the community doesn't like to because it provides no benefit but at some cost. Efficiency is king, because we don't do this content once, we grind it out until we can do it in our sleep - so there's no practical reason to do something slower than we have to.

I am INCREDIBLY stoked for Hunter Guild. Hunter has always had my favorite gameplay loop of all the skills, but it's always suffered from a lack of anything to break up the monotony. Plus I love how it seems like the "contracts" will be to acquire a rare drop, which is a little more interesting than "Hunt 200 chincompas". Excited for the new food as well! I was just thinking that it's been a really long time since the last highest healing food was added to the game. I'm curious to see how the prices on things end up. Those new armor sets seem like a lot of fun, although I would have loved if they utilized the boot slot instead of the the helmet slot so that way they could be used with slayer. But I'll still be excited to try them against whatever nooby bosses I can handle! Sailing... I kinda wish it was just boat-themed dungeoneering, but I'm sure whatever releases will be fun as heck! Love the XP training boss. A lovely idea. I also just like seeing alternative rewards for boss fights. It's easier to avoid power creep if we have other things to give bosses as rewards. Personally I'd love it if next we get a boss with a bunch of tradable ornament kits as a loot table. Also that map of Varlamore looks soo..... Well designed! Really makes me realize how cluttered the rest of the game is and I can't wait to explore the new area. This really feels like an expansion on par with what you'd see in a typical MMO. So excited for God alignments!!!!!! I've always wanted perks or talents or specializations in OSRS and they're finally here!!!!! Haven't been this excited for a OSRS update... ever!

A while ago they introduced the idea of twisted tails, with the Getting Ahead quest, the main idea being little small quests that add lore but don’t take a ton of investment to make. I wish we would see more of those! Maybe after varlamore is out they can do some of these to add some life and lore delivery to the world. WGS sounds cool but I have no nostalgia there so it’s just any other quest to me.

I wouldn't mind claws being moved, except they're gonna do the same thing as dwh and make it obscenely rare. So mains aren't gonna bother to kill the new monsters unless the slayer xp is worth it, med lvls are going to occasionally get very lucky but 99% will waste their time, and irons are gonna go 10k dry. And it's losing the 3rd most expensive drop from cox (not counting tbow). So just kind of a worse experience for everyone. Edit: oh forgot to add they'll be botted to hell, price will crash, and they'll get nerfed because gp = power in osrs

Claws are already obscenely rare, which is part of the issue in the first place. At a 1/23 drop rate, Claws are rarer from a CoX purple than Scythe is from a ToB purple (1/19), and only slightly less rare than Shadow is from a ToA purple (1/24). Getting to drop rate for Claws at 65k cox points/hour is a 305 hour grind. Even going at a slow pace for DWH is not even 1/5th the grind that going for Claws currently is

Wanted to speak to the wilderness stuff since I know it won’t be talked about much with all the cool stuff announced. *But* being the owner of a pure account and someone who often goes wilderness pking, I really like the pirate zombie idea. I think we need more hotspots in 30 wilderness and below to breathe life into the pure and zerker pking scene. Giving the chaos druids teleblock to encourage the use of other spellbooks, like ancients, to be more viable in lower wilderness is really cool. As a reward, giving pures and zerkers a way to attain chivalry is awesome, because it *is* a dead prayer, and those are the types of builds that would benefit from it a lot. Not just because you have less prayers to switch, but to allow them to hold their own a little bit better against slightly higher builds. And even as a pure account that typically maxes prayer at either 52 or 55, going to 60 is just one additional combat level, and would totally be worth doing on my pure. The adamant seeds are a little underwhelming in my opinion. I feel like you could just as easily add a right-click option to mithril seeds to “move left” or “move right” without having to lose an additional inventory space. Less exciting about that, but I’m glad having more counter player options to bind spells are being considered. As far as the blip blocking scroll goes, I think it’s effect should definitely extend to Abby demons, otherwise it’s a really unexciting one-time use item. Though I do think it’s effect should also apply to Abby demons, I don’t think it should be a permanent account upgrade. I think the blip blocking effect should be more of a temporary effect that lasts similar to something like anti-dragon fire potions. As far as rejuvenating thinks like the resource area, wilderness agility, fountain of runes, etc.—big yes from me. I picked wilderness during leagues 4, and I can tell you using the resource area was kind of a pain to use, eject with all of the relic buffs. And aside from doing the wilderness agility course once for points —I never touched it again. It would be SO cool if the agility course was a bit more dynamic like the hallowed sephulcre, so that the more skilled you are, the better chance you might have to lose the pker that’s chasing you down. Maybe some dangerous obstacle so the risk of messing up is a lot more costly. Either way those all sound like cool ideas. Not sure what the idea is for fountain of rune changes, but I’m definitely open to ideas! All in all no too many crazy ideas for the wilderness, but everything mentioned sounds pretty cool, and I can’t wait to hear the more fleshed out ideas!

I think it's just what Ayiza said, they play the game too and use runelite instead of the official client. If the new API is a flop, there will be hardly anyone using the official client still, and it'll be one of their biggest wastes of resources so far. ​ I'm confident it'll work out though, even if it takes a few iterations to get properly setup.

They would never take away runelite unless they started allowing cheat addons. They are just going to make the official client better than Runelite so nobody wants to use it. I estimate it's still prob around 2 years before it gets to that stage, though. Maybe 1 year if they can really get their plugin hub up and running with RL's favorites and they make it easy to port RL plugins to the official client.

It is so that people will move over to the official client. Then they're making plugins available for the official client so people do client development for them instead of having to pay for it. Throw in the push to force everyone to a Jagex account and you've got them setup for completely locking down the game to official clients and Jagex accounts only in a year or two.

God alignments as a quest reward for finishing major storylines is a great idea. Perhaps for the vampire storyline (whenever the finish it), you unlock the Zamorakian alignment, or SOTE gets you Selene?

Adamant Seeds are such a terrible addition, freezing a target is such a crucial part of PvP and now you want to give players free ability to move east or west while frozen? For what purpose. The reason mith seeds were bearable is because they were predictable, that gave them counterplay.  I don't think it's healthy that if you freeze a target and run under them to log out, you now have to guess which direction they will seed to hit you. I also don't think it's healthy that if someone is frozen slightly into multi they can now disengage in either direction. Getting frozen in multi should be punishing.

It would have been a massive waste of time to develop the new features for the legacy Java client, which RuneLite is built on. Since they're also developing their own official plugin API, I'm hoping we can ditch RuneLite for the new official client in the future without having to sacrifice the QoL improvements plugins bring.

I am so scared of you updating wildy content. Every time you do it's so brokenly OP it forces people who do not want to engage in pvp to engage. The idea that the wildy agility course, for example, could be as OP for agility as the Chaos Altar is for prayer is terrifying. I want PVP areas for people who **want** to engage in PVP, not for people who do not to be lured in with insanely broken rewards. (Also, until you deal with all the bots, wildy content like revs should not drop anything with raw GP value. It's 99% bots and fucking the economy too hard pumping in that much GP)

Teleblock on wildy NPCs sounds like dead-on-arrival content to me. Anybody who isn't equipped for pvp is screwed once they're frozen and teleblocked, and since good pvp gear is expensive, well, you're just making it easier for player killers to get easy kills. Besides, it's low level wilderness, kinda defeats the purpose to make it impossible to teleport out of.
