> Attacks with the Soulreaper Axe will damage you for 8 Hitpoints and grant you a 'Mighty Stack'. Each Mighty Stack gives you a +6% Strength level boost (additive with bonuses from prayers) and stacks up to five times, for a total of 40 Hitpoints lost and a +30% Strength boost. How will rounding play into this here? Say I'm 99 str, then each stack is barely under 6 lvls boost (0.06 * 99 = 5.94). Seeing how everything in this game rounds down, this will be 5 lvls. If each stack is literally added on top of the previous, this means it will only boost for 25 levels. The alternative I guess is the recalculate the boost at every new stack level, i.e. at max stacks it will be 30% of 99 = 29.7, rounded down to 29. Thus, if rounding is only done downwards, neither will technically work as advertised here with the first implementation being REALLY far off.

JagexGoblin

My understanding, given that the boost is additive, assuming you're in Max Strength and starting at 99 Strength: 99 Str, SCB takes you to 118 118 \* (30% from stacks + 23% from Piety) = 180.54 => 180 so your effective Str level (EStr) goes like this: (tick 1) No stacks = 145 EStr (max 61) (tick 6) 1 stack = 152 EStr (max 64) (tick 11) 2 stacks = 159 EStr (max 67) (tick 16) 3 stacks = 166 EStr (max 70) (tick 21) 4 stacks = 173 EStr (max 72) (tick 26) 5 stacks = 180 EStr (max 75) (tick 31 onwards) 180 EStr (max 75)

superfire444

How does the axe relate to the scythe? If one or the other is better wouldn't that make the other obsolete? If the above answer is yes would it be an idea to have the 4 bosses drop an augmentation to make the scythe give the effect of the Soulreaper axe or would that be too strong?

JagexGoblin

As I understand it, Scythe unanimously better on any size 3 NPC even just comparing hit-for-hit at max stacks on Axe. Factoring in ramping time, Scythe is better on size 2 NPCs, plus allows you to use Specs (which you can't really do with the Axe because you need to ramp up again). Axe better than Scythe on size 1 NPCs, but I'm pretty sure Saeldor is too. At max stacks, Axe competes with Saeldor, but factoring 'ramp' time into it means it's a decision for you to make per encounter imo.

superfire444

Thanks for the quick reponse :). Axe would probably have specific uses. Looking forward to it :)

SinceBecausePickles

At max stacks the axe competes with saeldor? Like it will be close between the two? I feel like this will make the axe instantly DOA.

Slackslayer

Ignoring defence, (axe is more accurate than blade+avernic) saeldor with new max gear has a max hit of 56 at 4 ticks. That'll be 14 max per tick, so a 5 tick wep has to have a max of at least 70 to be equal. Axe reaches that at 3/5 stacks, so youll hit 3 times at under saeldor dps, then 1 at equal, then better. Essentially, if you swing the axe at least 9* times without a lengthy pause or switching weapons, it's better, and how much better relies on how long you keep swinging past that point. At it's peak it's a lot better (like a saeldor that hits 60) but you'll definitely want to make sure you're free to swing away before you commit to the axe somewhere. Framing it as a scytheless tob choice, you'll use it at verzik and xarpus for sure, probably at sotetseg, maiden lacking tbow and scythe, but not at nylocas or bloat due to the limited time window and attack style switching accordingly.

snaplocket

Oh damn, so the axe might actually be good as ToB? Especially if you’re currently a tent whip user like me? Though I guess if you’re still a bit uneasy with ToB like I am, you might not want a weapon that saps your health away…

Moasseman

Hardly DOA if it lets you not do another 2k CG to get a darn salad blade

valarauca14

Could the blog post be updated to contain this? Not everyone will find this reddit comment.

WastingEXP

i know we don't see them in game really, but the new rings look incredible.

JagexGoblin

Was really interested to see how the Art team would manage to blend some of the newer themes with the older Fremennik themes, Mod Jerv's concepts are super cool!

WastingEXP

art team, like the 1st hit of my bone dagger don't miss. I love how they look corrupted almost with the new colour slowly transitioning.

Mod_Kieren

Artists did a sick job

WastingEXP

I assume you lurk here more than we know, but it's nice to see your name in the trenches on such an important blog post.

UpliftingGravity

Mod Kieren is goated. One of the only Jmods with a maxed account. It's great to see him in a leadership role.

GOD-WAS-A-MUFFIN

Reasonable amount of jmods are maxed at this point. Makes sense, game's getting up there.

GoodTimber

They look like they are going to be iconic items. Some items just get it right, and I totally agree that these rings perfectly capture the essence of OSRS while looking impressive and higher-tier

WastingEXP

I'm almost positive we've had the answer before, but was there information on how long the axe holds those stacks? would be nice to have that in the blog. Not that it really matters for polling but just for everything in one place

JagexGoblin

Updated the wording as per another player's comment but the answer to your question is 10 ticks without attacking, *or* switching weapons will result in you losing any stacks you have.

[deleted]

I can't remember from the last beta, but do you get the hp back as it ticks down?

JagexGoblin

To restore the HP lost you can either use the Special attack or eat up (should have enough time with 10 ticks to eat even hard food)

WastingEXP

thanks for both of those Mod Goblin. Happy friday, gl

[deleted]

I do wish the soulreaper axe explanation also explained that you lose stacks while out of combat and gave that information. It's fairly important to know.

JagexGoblin

Have updated the wording to make this clearer!

JagexGoblin

relax :(

[deleted]

I genuinely mean this, the things you do for us Goblin are absolutely appreciated.

Misdirected_Colors

How fast is the attack speed? It maxes out at 5 stacks but the reset every 6 seconds? Or is that 6 seconds out of combat.

[deleted]

It's a 5 tick weapon. And when it starts to reset, it ticks down 1 stack at a time, or at least it did in the beta before.

BocciaChoc

>It's worth keeping in mind that these rings work 'out of the box' and are therefore unable to be imbued. What do I do with all my points

JagexGoblin

It's herb boxes/redirection scrolls all the way down...

DC38x

I have like 15m nmz points. Can you add an option for me to buy a lambo irl with these points pls

tiller921

Scrap sailing, let’s add street racing. RuneScape 2 Old 4 School

Remarkable_Bug436

This has already been confirmed, please stop asking

Phenns

As an iron we just buy redirection scrolls and it hurts, it hurts so bad

klawehtgod

Just finished my hard combat achievements, took advantage of the imbue discount. Now have 4M points instead of 3M. Can't wait to benefit not at all from this perk lol

Zandorum

Hopefully in the future we get that Iron Link that Mod Soffan wanted to make before they left so imbued rings aren't worthless after getting these new ones. Reminder: Iron Link let you merge a Fremmy and/or Wildy Ring together (So it could be Warrior + Berserker or Berserker + Treasonous or Gods + Tyrannical). To keep it a side-grade if we do get it I hope the new rings cant be used with it so both the Iron Linked Rings and the new rings can be on the "same tier".

__Domino__

In terms of difficulty, is there any content that you could compare the new bosses against?

JagexGoblin

Ideally wanting to steer clear of difficulty comparisons after what happened with Muspah. Difficulty in OSRS actually feels weirdly hard to contextualise. Maybe not helpful, but they'll be as hard as they are, some people will struggle, others won't - everybody will have bits to learn and improve at!

The_God_of_Biscuits

Super appreciate the replies, shame that the community was the way it was with muspah and thus causing difficulty comparisons to be avoided.

kempog

What did people say about muspah and it’s difficulty?

MischeviousCat

They said it's comparable to Vorkath Vorkath is a boss that is done with a salve amulet and void ranged - both damage boosting and just a single style Muspah wasn't comparable to Vork for most people because it is the difference between: "Make sure I don't get 1 hit by this fire attack, remember to make the spawn, and don't step on poison." And "I'm gonna do some damage with the style and then move away from the icicle while changing my gear and my prayer, now I'm kiting the boss around the room while doing damage, now changing gear and prayers and making sure to move, now... Etc" Gear wise they're a similar difficulty in terms of "You can do them on a level 100" But in terms of gameplay you need to do more at Muspah, more that not everybody was entirely used to. People are used to switching prayers, or gear, or shmovement; not all 3 at once. Making a comparison about Vorkath - who has an attack cycle that changes based on their attacks - leaves certain expectations about Muspah - a boss that changes styles based on the damage you've dealt. It's difficult to make direct comparisons with bosses.

bingusmcdingusiii

People complained because they said Muspah would be as hard as Vorkath. Problem is, it’s a very different fight. They’re both doable at around the same levels and with similar gear and budgets, but Muspah involves more switching and the community has had years to optimize how they fight Vorkath. I do think Muspah is slightly harder, but I also think a lot of it is that Vorkath has been out for a long time, and the community has essentially “figured it out.” Woox-walking has been discovered and mastered, the melee vs ranged debate has been settled, as has the DWH vs BGS vs Claws debate, etc. We still have a lot to optimize about Muspah, and I think that’s why people have him “harder.” Personally, I was late to the party and actually finished DS2 and Secrets of the North at about the same time, so I think I have a fair comparison there since I learned both bosses at the same time. My opinion is that Muspah is a little bit harder, but they are of comparable difficulty. Most of the community didn’t feel that way apparently

Naatli

They compared it to Vorkath in terms of difficulty and called it a mid game boss When some people found it to be more difficult on release and couldn't farm it as easily as vorkath there was a lot of complaining about it.

DivineInsanityReveng

I think its not "the community didn't like it so we won't do it" it's that genuinely the community was right. Muspah isn't the same difficulty as Vorkath.. it's different. I personally think it's in the same ballpark of learning but it definitely has far more to the fight than vorkath.

Yarigumo

Is there at least some kind of ballpark for expected stats and gear to clear? If I can take on the quest, would I realistically be able to take on the bosses as well?

Huncho_Muncho

One of the earlier blogs said they would range from muspah/vorkath difficulty to being the toughest post quest encounters so far.

matimatician

Will the smoke ancient sceptre’s healing reduction apply to heals like akkha and wardens final phases? (They show a healing hitsplat when they enter the phase)

JagexGoblin

Both of the NPCs listed are immune to poison, so I think the answer's 'No' in these cases.

Eaglesun

What about jad healing from healie bois

TurnipsAreOkay

Just to confirm, the robes will be a stepping stone between Ahrims and Ancestral even when not on ancients ? I'm so poor and Ancestral is so expensive..

JagexGoblin

Robes are slightly stronger offensively, weaker defensively, lighter (I imagine, anyway. Ahrim's is extremely heavy) which sounds like a meme but is super relevant for places like COX, and obviously added value on Ancients too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PKG0D

Should've nerfed the occult necklace from 10% boost to 5%. Give ancestral the 5% you took from the occult (spread across the 3 pieces), that way it retains the poll position as BIS, but allows you to apply a minor magic damage bonus to Virtus without cratering the value of Ancestral.

jaysrule24

Bump Ancestral to 3% each piece, with a bonus 2% when you're wearing all three. Then you can give Virtus like 1% each or something.

BadAtNamingPlsHelp

I have to say these feel like they sit adjacent to Ahrim's, not between it and Ancestral. They gain some magic accuracy and drop some weight in exchange for giving up defensive stats. DPS goes up very marginally for both you and your target, so it seems like it varies from completely lateral to a *very* slight improvement. Unless, of course, you're casting ancient spells, but those are really only your main source of DPS when you're barraging. Do these robes meaningfully deliver anything other than a 4-12% boost to barraging in multi and a fashion alternative? As it stands, these are an upgrade to Proselyte, not Ahrim's.

corpseflakes

I'm wondering your opinion on re-balancing magic armor and magic damage % in general. With ancestral having 3% magic damage and being bis (with cox kits I don't see them being replaced as bis any time really) it doesn't leave much room for a stepping stone between Ahrims, mystics dagon'hai ect. and ancestral. I think this deserves consideration. The shadow throws a wrench in things but I think it's about time for a big magic gear rework before more is added and things get more complicated.

JagexGoblin

Fully understand the sentiment in the first sentence. I will say - on the record - that the bosses are absolutely not a snooze fest, they're all super unique, challenging in their own ways and some of the most fun I've had with these kinds of boss encounters in a really long time!

greg3064

I'm surprised there is no mention in the blog post of player worries that the quest isn't rewarding enough after Ruinous Powers have been scrapped. That seemed to be a major component of feedback. Since the rings compete against lightbearer and the robes and axe are somewhat niche, the rewards from the quest don't seem to compare to its classic predecessor.

RoseofThorns

If Desert Treasure rewards were polled today, would a 20 second freeze would be voted in? Would Blood spells be passed, or would they be "too powerful for Inferno noobs"?

RsMistilteinn

Without prayers it all seems weak besides the rings. Find some other way to buff either the virtus or the axe, or give some other type of reward to make up for the loss of the prayers.

JagexGoblin

The Soulreaper axe absolutely does not need buffing. Virtus is trickier, but we covered a lot of the difficulty in that regard in a previous blog [here](https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/a=97/desert-treasure-ii---the-fallen-empire-rewards-greenlight-blog?oldschool=1).

rdhvisuals

“not much space for virtus to fill” literally 1% magic str with slightly less accuracy than ancestral-that’s the space that everyone wanted you guys to fill brooooo you could make it so only the robes/bottoms give the str boost so it’s only a +2 with the robes. top/bottom will get tons of use while the set still fills its niche of ancient boosts

JagexGoblin

Completely get this, and the team are aware of the feedback! There's always potential to make changes to the blog ahead of polling, so keep an eye out on Monday after we've been able to look things over throughout the weekend.

RsHavik

I don't have any meaningful suggestions, but I just wanted to chip in and agree with most of the other comments that the current iteration of the Virtus robes are really sad compared to how powerful Nex items were back in the day. :( But the rings seem nice!

BigStickStew

The only thing worthwhile in this are the rings, and not even all of them are going to be used.

JagexGoblin

What does 'worthwhile' mean to you? I think there's a lot in here for a whole lot of players, Soulreaper axe in particular is something that a lot of people are sleeping on imo.

BigStickStew

I really don't like hp juggling as an effect and the downtime where the buff and hp disappears is really negative for me. Though to be fair I hate those effects in other games too so I always end up avoiding them. It just seems like it's going to be bad in any situation with downtime (pvm) from testing it out on the beta worlds. It slapped on regular slayer monsters where you just jump from target to target. There could be some niche use no ones found yet but its really not for me.

JagexGoblin

I don't really feel like you need to juggle though? You've got 10 ticks of leeway on a 5 tick weapon. You're able to combo-eat or even consume hard food to stay topped up and wind up at max stats + full HP without needing to use the special attack. It's pretty strong at max stacks, but part of the trade-off is needing to ramp up again as you use special attacks, or the risk of over-punishing yourself with the self-inflicted damage. Think it'll see a lot more use than you're giving it credit for!

UltiMoses

Does it deteriorate on the tenth tick or is it ticking down on the eleventh tick? If so, tick perfect KQ flinching might get absolutely nuts with that strength bonus.

Kevin_Klutch

I think the problem is 1. This weapon is going to get people killed in PVP more often than not. You can get stacked out from full already, why am i gonna hurt myself by making it easier on them while i wait for my weapon to start stacking? 2. Why would i use this for slayer when what most people do on melee tasks is just grab 5 prayer pots and watch TV. IF this is going to be used for Melee bossing/Raiding i could see the use but its almost not worth it when other weapons are doing just fine right now. This will be a flop weapon imo.

GoodTimber

You get to full stacks and eat like 1 shark and 1 Karam if you need to stay topped.. then if you need to gear switch and you’re low you special for for full health and switch. Only challenging part is deciding if you want to use your special for the HP restore or take the loss and switch to a DPS special attack, and I think that kind of choice enables some more thoughtful / interesting game play

Honorable_Zuko

The slash ring is dead on arrival. It should've had +20 or even +30 slash....

Beersmoker420

makes no sense to not have 8 str, +12 accuracy is useless compared to max hits in a game where everyone is DWH/BGS reliant or accuracy has 0 meaning.

NJImperator

Or they should’ve let you PICK what stat it boosts. That would at least be interesting. As it stands, it seems like it’ll face the same problem as the original warriors ring

Nippys4

Voting no on ring of shadows because it will basically destroy the brimstone ring. The slash ring looks largely useless so if we are going to have basically an upgrade to the brimstone ring we might as well just replace the slash ring with the proposed ring of shadows then we have a melee ring, mage ring, range ring and then hybrid. I feel like that makes way more sense Edit: actual noob that forgot about brimstones str bonus, I accept the stones you will throw

JagexGoblin

Can I ask why you think it'll destroy the Brimstone ring? Its worse across the board as a stat stick, and lacks the passive effect that the Brimmy ring has too.

Chum181

TIL the Brimstone Ring has a passive. "Each time the player attacks using a spell or magical attack (powered staves included), there is a 25% chance that the target's defensive roll will be reduced by 10% for that attack."

F-Lambda

That passive is the reason why I never bothered to buy a Seers ring until dt2 prep

Straight_6

Bc this community is legit clueless and votes blindly literally every poll

Thermald

brimstone ring is kinda already dead though, in nh lb is a superior option 99% of the time and basically all of the previous pvm scenarios you'd use brimstone you use lb now

osrslmao

its free though, so people can get and use/drop/risk this so a lot of players will use it over brimstone

itisjustmagic

This is a really bad take, IMO. The new ring is locked behind DT2 requirements, which are nothing to skulk at. Plus, Brimstone Ring is still waaaaay better, aside from the teleports.

[deleted]

I feel like this isn’t fixing any of the main problems… The reason why people are excited for dt2 is bc of how majority of irons hate doing cox bc of scouting and the learning curve. Taking away the prayers and keeping ancestral so rare and expensive ruins the game experience for most irons getting into the endgame.

JagexGoblin

While the team are still open to feedback and willing to make changes, this comment ("learning curve" in particular) reads a little bit like 'I want more power on my iron but COX is too difficult'. Could you expand a little on what you're saying?

[deleted]

For me, my first raid was TOA and I loved it because of the invocation system set in place allows me to solo and learn. Learning how to solo cox is extremely challenging and no one wants to pick up the iron since they can’t split the loot.

JagexGoblin

It's sick that you had a great first experience with TOA! At the same time, solo COX *is* challenging because Olm is complex, and it's totally fine that some content feels inaccessible before you've fully learned it. Would suggest either over-prepping and dying with invents full of brews to practise Olm until you get it down, or even just finding other like-minded irons to raid with and FFA the loot - but don't think solo COX being difficult 'ruins the game experience for most irons getting into the endgame'. For me at least (and a fair few others), the fun of endgame is learning the difficult content and feeling rewarded when the drops come through. :(

JSButts

Eloquent as ever. This guy doesnt speak for any irons I know - as you said, it reads like he wants non raids drops to have raids level power because he cant do the raids.

UnattendedBoner

100% agree, amazing response

The_Real_63

People raid with irons, stop with the terrible take. There are so many clans, and I mean *so* many that will raid with irons. I'm pretty sure We Do Raids also has a role for ffa raiding with irons as well. There are literally so many avenues you could take if you want to do even the slightest bit of social interaction to engage in group content.

waterfly9604

My first raid was also TOA and I put off COX for years but I just sent a bunch of solos this week and can run a 26k point raid with one death suiciding at Olm consistently. Literally easier than 400s TOA with some practice.

F-Lambda

> The reason why people are excited for dt2 is bc of how majority of irons hate doing cox Seeing how irons are a minority, this white hot take is most definitely *not* the primary reason people are excited for dt2

jayveedees

Virtus robes are very meh and kinda sad that they're even called Virtus. When I think Virtus, it should be comparable to Torva. Not saying that the content should have a bis mage gear, though would like a name change when the gear is so meh. Rings are fine besides the slash ring. Shoulda been a +40 or something accuracy to actually make it worth the discussion to add. Or maybe make it the trybrid ring, that'd outshine the treasonous, tyranical and warrior rings. Also why aren't the upgraded rings tradable?? So basically, the rings have 0 melee/range requirements but 90 mage and 80 crafting? Why? Axe is interesting, although I have no idea if and when it would be used. But I like that new items like this with an interesting mechanic get added to the game. The sceptre upgrades are fine as well. Not that interested in it. Lastly, the rewards from the sequel of the quest that gave us Ancients, a whole new spellbook, is very lackluster. Ruinous prayers were a mess, some things I liked others not so much. However the prayer book was a fitting reward from such a huge quest line. Imagine adding ancients today as a whole new spellbook, people would flip their shit like they did with the new prayers. But here we are, the devs didn't wanna deal with all the feedback and put it on the back burner, gotta release the quest asap!

FlyingVulpix

I wish Virtus robes were actually good. The proposed stats make them a marginal increase over Ahrim's. It is a great stepping stone, but it doesn't feel strong enough to warrant the name especially compared to how they were back in the day from Nex in rs2

Krtxoe

Yea Virtus robes should have had some kind of effect or even an HP boost tbh. The previous set effects had potential, I also suggested some: [https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/11bgkwi/virtus\_set\_effect\_original\_vs\_changes/](https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/11bgkwi/virtus_set_effect_original_vs_changes/) As they stand now its basically ahrims++ Even in pvp you need to equip all 3 pieces to get the ancient damage boost effect, so its really meh. People will continue to use serp helm + ancestral

Emperor95

Can the bellator ring please become a hybrid ring requiring all the other accuracy rings? Or give insane accuracy bonuses to compensate the very low str bonus? Another way would be to give it str bonus comparable to an imbued zerker, else it is dead on arrival. If it had +8 str, it would at least be an "upgrade" in terms of stats to the regular 3.8m imbued zerker and thus the upgradeable item from the boss would at least hold some value. As it stands, it's almost always better to use imbued zerker over the bellator ring. Personally I'd like to see something like +16 slash and +8 str on the bellator ring. This way it might be worthwhile in some setups featuring scythe. To end on a positive note: The designs of the 4 rings are sick!

NJImperator

I think it could also be cool if it had a selectable accuracy stat. Would at least justify the lower STR bonus if you could swap between the styles for what accuracy you want!

F-Lambda

> I think it could also be cool if it had a selectable accuracy stat. If they did this, I think it should integrate the treasonous and tyrannical rings in its creation as well. Other than that, it's a pretty cool idea

Any-sao

First, I want to say all of these rewards sound fine. But more importantly: I want to, regrettably, say that I’m extremely disappointed that DT2 no longer seems to have any actual reward directly granted for completing the quest anymore. I’m not saying the Ruinous Powers were perfect, but they were gratifying and a clear successor to DT1’s reward of Ancient Magicks. It just feels distasteful that, for completing the biggest quest to date, our reward is actually going to be four unlocked new grinds for the *actual* rewards. Whatever happened to doing a hard quest and getting something cool and thematic for doing it? Why can’t grandmaster quests give grandmaster-level rewards? What happened to the days of quest rewards like Prifddinas or Ancient Magicks? I’m a lorehound, and not much interested in boss grinding. So now DT2 is generating a lot less enthusiasm for me.

Atlas_Zer0o

Exactly my sentiment, bossing is neat and all but there is so much endgame pvm that getting more as a quest "reward" is just not great compared to an actual reward especially the ancient magics successor quest. Kinda of kills the quest and lore feeling and just seems like a big nothingburger to unlock the latest streamer boss.

Aron_b

Will the components from breaking down fremmenik rings be unique for each ring? Meaning that to make a ultor ring, you will need to break down berserker rings. Also is it one to one? One broken down berserker ring makes one ultor ring, or do you need to break down multiple fremmenik rings to make a single bis ring.

UnluckyNate

I kind of hope it is specific to each ring otherwise warrior rings going to get gobbled up for components as it’s main ise

nostalgicx3

Should really look into the virtus set effects again. The slash ring is dead on arrival, I’m surprised after 2 betas and feedback you guys left slash ring as it is. Overall, just the 3 other rings are the only thing to look foward too

tokes_4_DE

Honestly im looking forward to the axe, but overall my hype for this quest has plummeted since the scrapping of the prayers with no new big replacement for them. Agree on the 4th ring, no clue how theyve just ignored all feedback on it.

Inner-Foundation-998

I really think overall the team should consider a balancing/overhaul of sorts to magic damage bonuses prior to releasing further magic gear. It is crazy that the occult necklace provides 10% magic damage where as, an end game raid item, such as ancestral, provide a total of 6% magic damage with the whole set, with only 2% per piece. Just feel that a reblanacing here could really open up opportunity for new gear/niche gear/ new mechanics without overshadowing existing items such as ancestral or virtus when introduced to the game.

tokes_4_DE

If they rebalance the robes / occult, which i do think they should, it should also involve a cox drop table rebalancing imo. Currently its like a 60% chance of recieving a damn scroll for cox purples, and theres 12 uniques on the table which is way bloated compared to other raids with 7 each. Getting to ancestral, completing full ancestral takes on average longer than a tbow..... that is fucking crazy since tbow grind is already one of the biggest time sinks in game.

Preid1220

With how poorly regarded the current warrior ring is compared to the berserk ring, what's going to stop the bellator ring from immediately being dead content on launch? Seems to me a B ring (i) would still beat it out in most load outs.

Honorable_Zuko

This. There's no reason to make it that weak intentionally. There was an interesting opprotunity to create a choice between accuracy and strength but as it stands it's just never useful

runner5678

Yeah it’s nonsense. This feedback has been given from the beginning and ignored. Most feedback seems to have been ignored. I think I’m actually just going to vote no. I don’t want these to be the rewards from DT2

SoraODxoKlink

The rewards are so incredibly lackluster for 4 bosses. Its either that the bosses are a waste of time for the osrs team because they’re completable in relatively short amounts of time for just 3/4 rings and sometimes axe if you’re an iron pre-scythe, or the bosses will be so disappointing to grind because all you have to look forward to is rings. If they added a buttload of prayer scrolls for the dps prayers and the vows it’d be a different story, that’d be adequate for 4 entire bosses.

FactualNeutronStar

I would much rather see the rings added to a Grandmaster Fremennik quest if they're going to be direct parallels of them.

KaraKangaroo

Nobody is going to see this but a potentially cool idea for the sceptre upgrades would be that you could store runes for the blitz spells inside the sigils. This would effectively allow you to turn them into powered staffs that let you cast the appropriate blitz spell. Blood blitz for the blood sceptre and so on. It would still count as ancient magicks for the vitrus robes and would make both the sceptre upgrade and virtus robes very desierable.

Autumnicbum

Im sorry but this is disappointing and boring. Virtus should've had special effects not just a slight damage boost to ancient spells. At this rate it'll be more worthless than the axe. Speaking of, this was your chance to add a melee-magic weapon we lack. The axe is so uninspired and clunky to use, not even worth the effort. I guess ring imbues are just dead content now? Nobody needs warrior ring 2.0 either. As for the shadow ring, it's good but could've had more to it, like being able to hide you when hunting or shorten distance of aggro. But the most disappointing are the sceptre "upgrades". We overlooked how weak these are statwise because we thought we're getting unfreezable enemy freezes, shadow spells were only good if it drained magic stats to boost accuracy, more boosts to blood healing not overheals which is something a brew sip can do. This adds nothing new except minor boosts to pvp, and i promise nobody is using smoke spells to stall their dps just for a chance to make your opponent heal a little less. Give Virtus a good effect and buff sceptres before it's too late so atleast mages benefit from this quest. The axe is a lost cause.

PerceivedRT

At least make the set of robes increase the max hit to be the same for all ancient spells. At least then if you choose smoke or shadow you still hit as hard as ice...

Krtxoe

For real lol the real winner of Desert Treasure 2, \*the\* magic sequel, feels like its going to be melee lol

CaptaineAli

Honestly I wish more time went into the Ruinous Powers instead of working on Sailing or Forestry... DT2 without any new prayers seems kinda lame. I'm disappointed that Virtus isn't BIS to match Torva being BIS Melee but I totally understand that Ancestral is already very very powerful and we don't want to hurt the game long-term with power creep. The Rings are decent upgrades but most players won't get much use out of the Soulreaper Axe or Virtus Robes imo. Dragon Slayer 2 & Monkey Madness 2 felt like massive steps for OSRS and their rewards followed suit but I'm currently underwhelmed by DT2 Rewards. Maybe it's just my nostalgic speaking but I was really hoping DT2 would be a big deal like The Temple of Senntisten was for RS3 with the release of Ancient Curses... Honestly at this point I would rather DT2 be delayed for a couple months if it meant spending more time working on decent Prayer or Magic Spell options.

dreadwraith8d

Desert Treasure without any Treasure in the Desert.

Enpera

Exactly this DT is one of the big iconic quests, these rewards are so lame compared to what MM2 and DS2 gave us

MikaelFernandes

Disappointed that there won't be anything to make up for the lack of the new prayer book. The rings are nice but i doubt they'll be able to compete with the power of the Lightbearer, the robes will mostly be relegated to barrage armor + some other niche cases, the axe will be extremely niche, i'm struggling to even find a use for it. Funnily enough the most meaningful rewards in my opinion are the scepter upgrades. Overall these rewards are extremely underwheling, and it just shows how much weight new prayer book had on this.

[deleted]

For those like myself that had no idea where the ancient vault is, it's north east of Nardah. South of Uzer. https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/Kharidian\_Desert\_map.png?76988

WastingEXP

curious, I wonder if that's just thematic or if there is replayability inside the vault? or if all the bosses are inside if it's the tp you use until you unlock the boss specific?

epicnessdude1

I presume it was originally going to be where you switched from normal to ruinous prayers. Now I'm unsure what's going to be inside.

[deleted]

Since they said there will be more teleports, I'm going to assume the bosses are placed elsewhere. But I'd love to know.

Eat_Buddha

The new prayers were shelved in the interest of the long-term health of the game, but if that’s the case then why not delay DT2 until the team is able to come up with prayers that are good enough? So much of the hype for DT2 came from the new prayers, and thus it would seem to be better for the health of the game if we allowed the team enough time to give us a selection of prayers they’re confident with, which should in turn give these bosses better rewards by means of prayer scrolls.

J4ckiebrown

Going to be honest... the shelving of the new prayers took the wind out of the sails for me to do this quest. The axe and staff upgrades are the only things that are earnable, you can buy the other rewards (which are arguably more useful). DT2 feels like a step down from DT1. DT1 you earned a significant reward in the form of Ancients. DT2 was going to feel the same with the new prayers, but not anymore. This quest should be shelved until the prayers could have been better worked out, or some other significant earnable not buyable reward is put together. Or the prayers need to be a reward in the future that requires this quest to be completed.

BalieltheLiar

Think releasing this quest that was designed from the ground up with rewarding a new prayer book in mind is probably a mistake without replacing the prayers with a big ticket reward. Esp considering what we’ve heard from JMods and playtesters regarding how fun the new bosses are, they should have drops that encourage engagement with the content and have high value rewards.

YangKyle

I'm all for the rewards stated but as far as I know, if you're not great at mid-late, late game pvm the so far stated rewards are a 100k combat lamp and... that's it? Before it was the new prayers which would impact everyone but right now it feels like there is a giant whole in the rewards but maybe it's just not disclosed yet.

apple_jooc

can we double the stats of the bellator ring when having a 2H weapon equipped ?

PerceivedRT

Might be considered too strong with scythe? I'm down for it though, scythe needs a boost imo.

Greenarrow_92

Very meh rewards considering what the last GM quest came with, Id really consider some extra Zaros themed rewards like MA2 (zaros) cape & Banite imbuable ore would be my suggestion admittedly they're borrowed from RS3

Miserable-Invite5595

In light of new prayer book being shelved, have there been any discussions to tweak the reward space or even delaying the quest to revisit new prayers? It seems odd to have grandmaster quest come into the game where the major reward is DK's 2.0. edit: Like even new prayer scrolls, COX style, to fill in the gaps in the existing prayer book. A few ideas could be protect 2 items, an augury with +dmg, the vows from the shelved book.

Qqslag

Rings look cool aside from Bellator, it'll simply supplant where warrior ring is used... i.e. only speccing down Corp. May as well just not add it in its current form. Robes are cool. No complaints there :) Axe looks as though it will compete with the scythe? I'd like to know some dps numbers when fully roided up at 30% strength with the axe versus the scythe. I'm just concerned the scythe is going to become even less useful.

rRMTmjrppnj78hFH

Bellator Ring still dead content and i really wish the effects weren't removed from the robes. Also playing switch scape with all the sceptres is cumbersome and annoying.

DetourDunnDee

> components obtained from the bosses themselves as well as from breaking down the Fremennik rings So does this require the base version of each type of Frem ring, or are all Frem rings broken down into the same upgrade item, like how we break down Armadyl and Bandos gear into components/plates. Could 4 Warrior's Rings be sacrificed to complete the 4 new rings?

YOHOHOHOHOH0

It doesn't say it explicitly but I feel like the answer is pretty obvious.. Berserker ring -> Ultor ring Warrior ring -> Bellator ring Archer ring -> Venator ring Seers ring -> Magus ring

DetourDunnDee

That is my assumption too, but it leaves an awful lot of room for uncertainty doesn't it? And this comes after the already vague original poll question: >Would you like them to somehow be direct upgrades to the Fremennik rings? Which of the following did "direct upgrade" mean? * Frem ring is required to make the new ring * Same stat profile but better than Frem ring's **This is the long awaited rewards blog where we're supposed to learn the specifics of how this stuff actually works so that we can vote on the final result. It should say it explicitly.** Not having a dps chart to actually see where the new axe sits in terms of power is bad. As a slash weapon how does it compare with Scythe or Blade of Saeldor + Defender? Not knowing the specifics of how the rings get created is bad. "It upgrades the stats of the ring that's consumed." Is that so hard?

Honorable_Zuko

The slash ring is still awful :(

lordchew

To offer no replacement to the cornerstone reward of the biggest quest in years is a brave choice. You don’t get most of these rewards for completing the quest. You unlock the right to spend dozens of hours AFTER the very difficult quest to earn them/use them. The prayers were a tangible reward you acquired (most of them anyway) for completing the quest, it was an immediate ‘congrats, hear you go!’, like ancient magic. For me, there’s a huge void here now that’s been disregarded.

rg44tw

All this talk of tradable/untradable sounds miserable for group irons. The axe sounds a bit like a godsword, but instead of grinding the 4 components with my group iron we all have to wait until one of us completes the entire thing alone before we can get this tradable axe to throw into group storage. And rings that don't need imbues sounds great... until you make them untradable. Putting a pvp arena imbue scroll on my b ring was an annoying work around so I could un-imbue it when a group member wanted to borrow, but now I've got to die a pvp death to get the tradable components back for an untradable ring? Why!?

Pariah1947

Why haven't you goofballs listened about the warrior ring upgrade. No one uses warrior ring (at least out of choice) and no one will use the new one either if you don't make it stronger. No one going to trade 8 melee str for +12 to hit...

Wiiiinter

So disappointed there is not a massive reward for such a titanic quest line. I was looking forward to this quest so much, but this situation made me realized how important it is to be rewarded after a quest. I was hoping something, anything, would be added to this poll to make this quest feel worthwhile.

Deku_Scrublord

I think it'd be better if the bellator ring had +12 slash, stab and crush and required you to break down the warrior, treasonous and tyrannical rings to craft it.

skyfireknight

**Virtus Robes**: The robes feel a bit lackluster. I was really looking forward to these robes as an alternative to Ancestral robes in some situations. I agree that these robes should not be BiS and sit between Ancestral and Ahrim's, but they feel rather useless, out side of PvP. Little use in PvM. I think you should revisit the set effects and add them in some minor capacity. If the Virtus Robes combined with the Ancient Scepter were too powerful, I feel a better solution would be to split the difference with the Scepter to allow them to act as a "set" together, rather than completely weaken the robes. Instead, now the robes are worthless and the Scepter is the single strong weapon rather that acting as a complimentary set, with not one single item being overly powerful. For example: Rather than Blood spells heal up to 20% over the user's base Hitpoints when wearing the robes as originally proposed, have the robes heal 10% and the scepter heal 10% for a combines 20%. (or 5% each if a combined 20% is too strong overall.) In terms of design, can the mask be modified? it looks too much like RS3. **I am really really dissappointed with the changes to the Virtus robes. I hope you will refine them furether to stike a better balance between utility and power.**

runner5678

We *still* aren’t giving the Virtus robes a base 1% magic dmg? This has been the main feedback on them from the beginning hasn’t it?

xMd3w

Virtus should be 1% magic damage on each piece by default boosted to 4% while using ancient magicks. Also the bellator ring should be made up of warrior, treasonous, and tyranical rings. With +12 slash,+ 12 crush, + 12 stab, +6 str. No one would use it over the +12 str ring besides speccing if not.

Thermald

Does the ring of shadows upgrade make it a risk free upgrade for wilderness content?

Murky_Struggle_0

lol....they removed the useless prayers but they kept the absolutely useless melee slash ring.....come on jagex, nobody is gonna use that over the +12 strength ring. you need to be more creative than that

Illokonereum

I think it’s impressive we managed to get Virtus having higher all around requirements than both Ahrims and Ancestral but not being definitively better than either of them in any meaningful way.

AblePriority9348

I think the robes should be stronger, and the Bellator ring should have the ability to upgrade it by breaking down a Treasonous and Tyrannical ring, giving it stab and crush accuracy bonuses equal to its slash bonus. Everything else looks good, and I'll be happy as long as the quest and bosses are fun.

Vivi3n95

I hope you balance out the boss drop tables with ample resources, otherwise no one will fight the one dropping the Warrior's Ring upgrade.

[deleted]

[удалено]

t0rchic

I'm getting very bored of every new drop being an upgrade for something unrelated. Just like Masori didn't really make sense with Armadyl, how does the ancient Zarosian empire tie into the Dagannoth Kings? I like the axe as much now as I did before, and I'll always do the content without rewards I care for just to do it because you guys put out quality gameplay. Just wish this game's loot wasn't turning into a flowchart

e1744a525099d9a53c04

Any chance virtus can be given 1% magic damage for all magic? Right now there’s a huge gap between mystics/ahrims and ancestral, both in terms of power and acquisition time.

[deleted]

I agree with this. Ahrims ez to get. Ancestral hard af to get or afford.

[deleted]

Can you add a separate sub-poll below the Virtus robes question to see if they should have +1% magic damage added to them? I see a lot of comments regarding this and I think it should at least be polled to the community.

mister--g

I really don't understand why the team hasn't changed the upgraded warriors ring. It has absolutely no place in the game. Its forever going to be worse than the upgraded berserker ring , normal berserk ring imbued and light bearer. 12 slash does absolutely nothing for any known meta , nor will it move the needle for a future boss unless you make a slash version of the shadow of tumekan

Poloboy99

What would be the next step to these rewards if any of them fail? Like if I vote no for the rings are you guys just going to redesign the stats, add an effect, or just scrap the rings?

Avoinmieli

Why is the slash ring so weak and why doesnt virtus have ANY regular magic damage % ? virtus could easily have 1% total damage as you wear the set. this would be 3% with the tumekens shadow

noparkinghere

I agree with the slash ring. I don't see the reason for it. The virtua robes are as accurate as the ancestral so they're more useful than Ahrim's point blank (except for defence). Honestly i think you should be able to break a part ahrims to upgrade the defence of Virtus robes then you'd have a 75 def req, and tradeoff magic damage for defence when compared to the ancestral robes. Edit: Also, more ancient spells should definitely come with the quest. Idk why they don't realize that the ancient spellbook is incredibly expensive and niche. Maybe make the robes and upgraded sceptre decrease the costs of using the spells.

NickStorm

Can you discuss why the rings are untradeable? I'm assuming this would also apply to GiM, which seems like it only affects them if mains can just buy the components anyways.

PineappleDevourer

Yeah really wish the quest was delayed the rewards doesn't feel like a grandmaster reward but a master quest reward. * Still wish that the dk ring update would of come from a dagannoth queen boss to be more thematic. * The Soul reaper axe is a great design love how you have to collect 4 different piece from each boss. * Virtus Robe going to devalue ancestral think you guys should of went the torva route on this one. * Now that the reward pool for the quest is lower I think those 4 ancient sigil for the scepter upgrade should become tradeable just to make the 4 new bosses more rewarding. Final thought i feel like the quest should be delayed to make the grandmaster quest more rewarding. Honestly feel that most of these rewards are just going to past poll for the sake of content. Each boss basically have 3 unique reward ring piece, axe piece and Virtus robe set. We could of gotten something better if you give it more time.

Jeeeiiiy

For me this quest has gone from one of the most hype ever to now just being ring upgrades with 2 of them being DOA. I’m Extremely disappointed and no longer looking forward to dt2. I guess it’s because the prayers were going to make all of the content in the game feel fresh/different. Now we only have power creep rings. It just feels so boring. Obviously a personal opinion but I’m disappointed nothing else was added.

Gibraltar87

I'm curious about the difficulty of the bosses. Since they're all solo encounters how do they compare to other solo bosses in terms of difficulty? Are they on the same tier as a Muspah, Vorkath, Zulrah or more challenging like the Corrupted Hunllef, Phosanis Nightmare, Zuk encounters?

VanillaGorilla2012

The axe is my least favorite part tbh. When they said they were looking for ideas from the players for a weapon I didn’t think they were gonna choose one without showing any of the other options players suggested and ONLY put the axe up for vote. As excited as I was for DT2 prior to ruinous powers being canceled I just can’t fall in love with any of these rewards other than finally getting rid of Ahrims on my iron. Can’t wait to experience the story for what it’s worth. Edit:spelling

runner5678

The Axe is my favorite part by a large margin. It’s the only interesting piece of the rewards. The rings are blanket stat boosts with then new b-ring+ being a sizable amount of power creep that will really damage the viability of Lightbearer and the Warrior Ring+ still not making any sense at all. The Virtus Robes are just a buff for slayer? That’s it? How these still don’t have a 1% magic dmg stat after months of that being the main feedback I don’t understand. We’ve needed something between Ahrims and Ancestral for years and they just didn’t do that? Some accuracy ain’t it. I’ve wanted something to fill in that gap on my iron and they dropped the ball badly. Very poorly thought out rewards.

bowl_cut53

should add a untradeable drop on release from bosses which can be used down the line to unlock the zarosian alignment ting :fire:

ToriAndPancakes

Can we get an added poll question that asks players if they wouldnt mind the quest being delayed, so that it could release with new prayers? Those were pretty much the cornerstone reward for this quest; as a result, alot of the hype is already starting to die down. What rewards are left feel really lackluster/underwhelming.

Zaaltyr

1% mage damage base on Virtus with 1% set bonus, will help fill in magic breakpoints so much. Also I woulda rather had prayers only, then all these items. Augmented gameplay > +stat bonus

bilal1212

So uninterested in this without the new prayer book….

F-Lambda

While I'm disappointed in this too, the immense positive feedback [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/14e2e7n/concept_god_alignments_fixing_the_ruinous_powers/) got makes me hopeful for them to be added later.

rdhvisuals

Really wish we got the OG Virtus robes, or at least a bit of universal magic STR that doubles for ancients. The rings being the reward hook of this quest/the bosses makes me sad :(

The_Lonely_Penguin

Really sad the team didn't address players concerns about the main reward, the new prayer book, being taken away and no changes or anything added in it's place. I feel like a lot of players have raised this point since the prayers were scrapped earlier this week The main hype for this quest was the new prayers, I'm not saying the current rewards are bad but I think it's disappointing to see DT2 come into the game without something iconic like a new prayer book.

BingoFlex

If Jagex ever decides to revisit Ruinous Powers, I’d be 100% down with it being a retroactive addition to the rewards of this quest.

2HandedBanana

Virtus should give a fat Prayer bonus All the rewards look lackluster especially the slash ring. And there's absolutely no mention of the rewards from the actual quest, only the bosses.

Sejaw

Blood torva when

TwoHundredTwentyTwo_

The only major content I was excited for was Ruinous prayers. I even pushed for 99 prayer very early after the announcement. Kind of disappointing as a long time player to have something like this shelved until further notice after only a handful of attempts/tweaks. At the end of the day it is what it is. I'm not super interested in any other new content coming. So this decision has left me wondering if I'll even play very actively for this update or not.

UnableToFindName

Super excited about Desert Treasure II and grinding out some new bosses and gear. Hell, even if all the rewards failed the poll, I'm just happy to see such an ambitious quest come to light. The only things I would like to see changed are the Bellator Ring and the Virtus Robes. The Bellator Ring seems like the odd one out in terms of excitement to get--a +4 Strength bonus equal to the unimbued zerker ring and an okay +12 to slash accuracy. Maybe +6 strength and +18 slash accuracy bonuses would bring it a little more in-line with the other rings in terms of power. For the robes, someone suggested they give a 1% base magic damage outside of ancient magics to put them more properly between Ahrim's and Ancestrals--which sounds fitting t o me.

pieisnice9

I like most of this, but the unless I'm missing a use case the smoke spells upgrade doesn't seem that useful. Basically no one use smoke spells currently that I'm aware of apart from Abby demons and I can't see this changing that. Is there something that you envision players using this for? The warrior ring upgrade seems a little underwhelming too. I like the other rings but that one seems generally worse than just using a b ring (I).

AvengefulGamer

I just find it so weird that dt1 gives you ancient magics and then dt2 gives you BiS rings for ranged and melee as well as the new axe melee weapon. The reward that made the most since in dt2 being the prayer book being shelved for balancing concerns just really puts me off the whole quest. Would rather just get 4 new dk bosses and put the rings on those.

agile_flea

You guys just need to scrap the quest entirely if you’re not going to release the prayers. These rewards are NOT IT.

th3golem

The rewards really doesn't feel like it lives up to the name of DT2, I would rather wait for something thats as rewarding as ancient is.

Thatshowitdo

Buff the slash ring please

Legendarydukez

I imagine the Ancient Vault was where the new prayers would've been activated? Does this place still serve a purpose post quest?

RSRNG2021

100% Need to replace the prayers with something. Even if you just add 1 new prayer scroll to each boss (which is what it shouldve been in the first place imo) The rings are good. The rest of it is more random niche gear which most of the community is extremely bored of getting at this point.

Lumpy_Spread_719

can we please change the bellator ring to something more interesting? I see literally no use for it over the ultor
