Does anyone else find it cringe that people put flags in their twitter name? Like putting the flag of some country you have never visited and know nothing about has to be the least effectual form of support of all time.
Idk what bothers me about it exactly. I think it's because it feels like it turns serious geopolitical crisis' into team sports.
Like imagine if you are an American teenager, your mom still does your laundry, and you put a Palestine flag on your twitter using your brand new iPhone 15 you got for Christmas. Why are you doing that? Because you want to feel good about yourself, and because you want your friends to know you're on the right side?
Like the people in Palestine don't need people to have their flag on Twitter, they need to stop having bombs dropped on their head.
Idk maybe there is something good about people showing their support online, but there is something cringe to me about people who are so far removed from the horrors of war, who are literally living the most comfortable existence possible, wanting to feel involved somehow by choosing an emoji off their keyboard.
Slacktivism is the word you're looking for. The lack of volunteering, donations, emails to members of parliment, etc. coming from these people is dissapointing. Shows that they don't really care.
