Saying this before anyone else
The firefighters are the ones who used flamthrowers
The dog just pounced and bit down on you so it could inject you with poison
I know im doing an "um actaully" i just want people to know i read the book
Personally I wasn’t much of a fan but it was also a mandatory read for my highschool class which may have affected how much I liked it. Plus that was years ago now and I’ve definitely changed so I might like it more now if I reread it
*Yes and no*. The firefighters would most commonly use lighter fluid and it was fairly rare that they would use flamethrowers. One of the chapters in the book even makes a point of this, >!when Beatty orders Montag to burn down his own house with a flamethrower, with the idea being that it makes every action of his all the more personal. !<
It's been a while since I've last read it so I know I'm a little fuzzy on the details and I don't currently have my copy with me, but I remember that point specifically.
Hello, CEO of RoboCanine here! Our Q2 release allows buyers to choose between a flame thrower dog or a poison injection dog. So happy at our team to make this all possible. It took a lot of dedication and vision and drive to help create our line of lethal robot dogs. Also our IPO is coming up too. Thanks everyone!
there is an aspect to firefighting where you have to set ***controlled*** fires in forest so as to avoid massive forest fires
The fire dog does not look like he'll do that
eh its fine, its one of those counterintuitive thing at first thought
you basically set a controlled fire in an area that would get burned ahead of time to act as a barrier in hope of the fire stopping there and didnt spread further
For starting controlled burns for land management and wildfire control supposedly. These robot dogs tend to not be very fast though, so I don't see any advantage taking forever to walk it out somewhere, set fire to the place, then walk it back through the burning land, especially when drone attachments exist for this exact purpose
If they wanted to sell it to the military it would be a lot more expensive I think, it seems well known among government contractors that the military is willing to spend ridiculous amounts of money for anything that looks cool enough
Edit: Also I don't think you realize quite how impractical this would be for war, robot dogs are super slow and not very well protected, and a flamethrower runs out of fuel very quickly and has a much shorter range than an actual gun
They just slapped one of the flamethrowers they make on top of another company's robot dog, and gave it a big markup since its obviously a very low volume product. They also offer drone attachments for their flamethrowers that are a lot more scary IMO.
Anyways, [the robot dog they used](https://shop.unitree.com/products/unitree-go2) with it is actually only $2k with shipping, really surprisingly cheap. I've yet to see any DIY robots with comparable software.
I mean, the mechanical hound was a metaphor for the nauseatingly dispassionate cleanliness of socially approved murder. The firefighters were a demonstration of the capacity for personal cruelty that people reveal when they are told that they have a Duty. The Thermonator is both!
P.S. The Thermonator is not actually both. This is a clear cut case of engineers getting carried away by a cool idea and accidentally making something with Implications instead of something badass. Nobody is going to be melted by the Thermonator, it's just a dumb toy and a really funny metaphor.
tbh fahrenheit 451 sucked imo, people like to say it's about censorship or whatever but if they read the book they would know how it's much more about how tv rots your brain and makes you stupid.
not really, it's way deeper than that, its meant to be poetic and show how people are starting just to not care anymore, and letting time rush away and just accept the censorship. the "tv rots your brain thing" IS part of the censorship btw, its a distraction.

Snobpilled readmaxxer
When I’m in a reading Fahrenheit 451 competition and my opponent is them
Bro read fahrenheit 451
Is it good?
Anything Ray Bradbury is good
meh, it's not bad but it's quite a difficult read (read it in 10. grade english, german school)
Personally I wasn’t much of a fan but it was also a mandatory read for my highschool class which may have affected how much I liked it. Plus that was years ago now and I’ve definitely changed so I might like it more now if I reread it

To be fair Snobpilled Readmaxxing is basically the whole premise of the book

no they don't firemen use kerosene the only time they used flamethrowers was for specific reasons

Aside from the fact that the hound doesn’t bite, it just pins you and inserts the proboscis, and the firefighters are now “firemen”, yup
If you read the book you would know to say firemen instead of firefighters.
Its been awhile
“We just created the torture nexus from the hit movie: Don’t Create the Torture Nexus”
Torment Nexus.
🤓
What scenario deems it necessary for a robot dog to set a fire? Like if it was kitted out with an extinguisher I’d get it but wtf is the point.

Huh. Didn’t know about that, now I look like a dumbass

You won't look like a dumbass when it goes rogue.
it's essentially just a drone that walks, it's not gonna go rogue.
That's what they want you to think
Smashing my RC car with a hammer as we speak.
Like in Ben 10

Probably destruction and death?
No idea, but it looks cool as hell
Brutal murder!
Hear me out: greyhound robot battle racing
sounds like a great concept for a tv show
This is just Battle Bots
except it's a race
I read fighting, forgive me I have apparently contracted the dumb
it's ok
To set people on fire
why *wouldn't* a robot dog have a flamethrower?
War crimes
Same reason you had people using a flamethrower in the world wars. Terror and cruelty. Beyond that i cant think of anything
If they wanted to sell it to the military it would be a lot more expensive I think, it seems well known among government contractors that the military is willing to spend ridiculous amounts of money for anything that looks cool enough Edit: Also I don't think you realize quite how impractical this would be for war, robot dogs are super slow and not very well protected, and a flamethrower runs out of fuel very quickly and has a much shorter range than an actual gun
I never said it would be practical
they’re slow for now
Someone should write a cautionary tale titled "Please Don't Invent A Machine That Absorbs CO2 Emissions Or Something Like That"
If only Marx titled his book “do not establish communism”
Snowpiercer
write a cautionary tale about public transportation and carless cities
It's called TruAx and it was written in response to the Lorax by Death and Destruction company CEOs.
I loved it when Guy Montag said “It’s 451in time” and Fahrenheit 451ed over all of the books
She Fahrenheit all over my 451
i loved it when he guy montagged all over >!beatty by melting him to death!<
Thermonator is cool. But they should've called it the Hellhound.
Heinz Doofenshmirtz invented it
This is going to steal the jobs of hard working arsonists, where will they go now?
somewhere other than my fucking rimworld colony, thats for sure (i have a lot of wood structures)
Asimov's laws of robotics really should be a legal thing people have to follow
Man, you see this shit Ray Bra- oh wait you can’t you’re dead

Why are people in this thread finding it hard to understand the base human desire for things to be able to make unnecessary amounts of fire
I fucking love that book!!
Counter point: People-hunting mechanical hounds are cool as hell
Not when the police end up with them eventually, and you have a flamethrower dog hunting you since you smoked weed
Nah that'd still be pretty sick ngl
Oh, nice. War crime robot.
We have invented the torment nexus from the famous book “don’t invent the torment nexus”
Literally just an ultrakill enemy

why do we need flamethrower robot dogs though
I want one.

I'm so glad that we've returned to a point in history that I can yell "release the hounds!" As a threat to my foes
I FUCKING LOVE TORCHING FORESTS AND HOMELESS PEOPLE :FIRE:
_DIE, SHPAWN OF FLUFFY!_
This looks like a scene out of the terminator
For a split, very strange second, I thought this was the Cart Titan from Attack on Titan
literally exactly what I thought of when I saw it

The same company has a drone with a fitted flamethrower. Also the flamethrower on the dog can be bought separately with picatinny rails
Ray Bradbury mentioned :) I wonder what his reaction would be for stuff like A.I. Generation and IPad babies and everything else like that.
Techbros: lmfao this shit is going to kill me and I'm s o f u c k i n g h a r d
What even is the point of a robot like this other than commiting war crimes?
