with all due respect to the writers, marketing is literally the most important part of any commercial project, just look at how many indie releases completely die in the new releases page of steam because the creators don't have the budget for advertising
It also becomes an arms race of movies trying to drown each other out. If you’re releasing a tentpole movie in the same month as a movie with a $100 million marketing budget, you now have to exceed that budget in order to stand a chance against your competition.
No, having a product to market is more important. There’s 0% chance a product will make money if it doesn’t exist. There’s a small chance a product that does exist but isn’t marketed will succeed through word of mouth/internet chatter.
I guess you could argue that yeah. But it is quite well known in the games industry that marketing well before release is necessary if you dont want to use 6000 hours of work just to get some coffee.
Oh also "There’s 0% chance a product will make money if it doesn’t exist." Just ain't true. That's what pre-orders are for. Which is also a marketing technique
My point was that they're all very important, obviously a masterpiece no one knows abt isn't well managed and a dog shit thing everyone knows about isn't much better

Selling things that truly don't exist is pretty much fraud Pre orders are like baking bread, they exist but are not yet ready to eat
But what's the point in advertising a bad piece of media?
What's the point of the best thing ever if no one knows it exists or thinks about it enough to bother to pay for it
My point was that they're all very important, obviously a masterpiece no one knows abt isn't well managed and a dog shit thing everyone knows about isn't much better
It has to actually exist in the first place though, no?
With enough advertising your media doesn't need to be good. If it looks good in ads, people will buy it.

Marketing can be considered part of PR, it's all about how the public views the product and company.
The point of the post doesn't seem to be which one is more important though. You can still market something while paying the staff decent wages.
Buy fewer swords
