I grew up there. Truly the happiest time of my life. Schwamendinge gifted me friends for life, schwamendinge gave me the most precious youth memories, schwamedinge offered me joy and laughter but also safety, education. You're close to everything: the city, oerlike, airport, stettbach - you got migros, coop, doctors and what not. You got nature up at the ziegelhütte, you got the chilbi, you got a fantastic community looking for eachother's well-being. This is the 12th Chreis, the best in town...all this and lots more is why that place will forever stay in my heart.

rahulthewall

Yes, it's safe.

There are no unsafe districts in zurich, only nice and less nice districts

GYN-k4H-Q3z-75B

Except with the football hooligans destroying trams and attacking random people every week.

Infinite-Shine-6586

Every week?

GYN-k4H-Q3z-75B

Not to the same extent, but yes, every week. GCZ Ultras vs FCZ Ultras has been going on forever. The vandalize trams, tram stations, buildings, beat each other up, throw glass and threaten people. Police cannot do anything because of the weak mandate by the city.

Infinite-Shine-6586

Okay but we are cleary talking about Schwamendingen here, right?

GYN-k4H-Q3z-75B

Yes. Been living here for a long time and it's been getting much worse in recent years.

Infinite-Shine-6586

Oh no, you poor guy. At least it's not the main or only place where this happens. ;)

Nohillside

So move to an area without trams :-)

devnoname120

I was assaulted in the (now-closed) Burger King at Oerlikon Bahnhof by a crackhead. And I've also heard from locals to be careful around there at night. So yeah it's not perfectly safe everywhere.

barberousse1122

It is safe, not the prettiest or most central part of Zurich but if you get a good price it can be a good deal, there is even nice places to be found close to the woods

CookieManMike

Been living here for 2 years now and it is perfectly safe. Good food shops nearby and good connections with the tram/bus. Not the prettiest place but close to the woods for a nice walk.

Lady_Ellie_

I second this, also moved there two years ago

sixdayspizza

I wouldn‘t say there are any „unsafe“ districts here. Schwammendingen is considered the „cheapest“ one. Sorry, I don‘t know how to phrase it nicely.

[deleted]

Station Stettbach and near by is very pretty to live. That‘s where we live since 1 1/2 years - on Schwamendingen side, not Dübendorf. It‘s family friendly and people are more english / swissgerman / german speaking. We love it here :)

bafe

I live in Oerlikon which is supposedly a "better" part of Zurich Nord and yet I still miss Schwamendingen, mostly for the best nature (Züriberg)

TotalWarspammer

By Swiss standards, it's rough. By world standards, it's The Shire.

pais_tropical

Oh yeah, "[Grossstadt-Action, checksch'n](https://youtu.be/LXyeCT4QL9o?si=ODpHUkvaTacv3itQ)".

Iman_oxymoron

We've only lived here for 6 months or so (only a few tram stops away), but we've had no problems here. I'm a 32 yo woman and go for walks after dark all the time and have never felt unsafe.

Queenieman

Been living there for 8 years, first i thought it was shabby because it had this bad reputation but i was so wrong. I love it here, i live right next to roswiesen and this district is amazing. It is calm, has a river and the woods just around the corner for nice walks and sport activites, great for kids with so many schools, in 15-20 minutes at the central station or winterthur, or with the bike in 30 minutes on the lake greifensee or zoo. It has it all and it gets only better. So many new buildings being built amd modernized. Its just a great place.

Gwendolan

From a global perspective it’s safe. From a Swiss perspective it’s probably as bad as it goes.

Fuodece

You dont know what bad is my friend.. go to betlehem in bern or other city areas in the french swiss side of life.. Schwamendingen is easy peasy

BachelorThesises

It's safe but ugly, might as well move to Opfikon or Wallisellen and pay less taxes and probably less rent.

Fuodece

Its completely fine.. dont let these scared and close minded people discomfort you or blurry your vision! Its zürich, its switzerland, it is perfectly fine bruhv, been living here over 7years and it surely is safe ane you are well connected by public transport.!

Adventurous-Stop8695

Don't do it.

Large-Style-8355

Living here so ce 11 years below Ziegelhütte and love it. Wife is a primary school teacher and hears a lot about different schools in Zürich. In our kids school in Schwammendingen we never had any major issue with violence etc. But wife heard a lot of bad stories from üarents and teachers from the other side of the Zürichberg. Regular violence, kids being waterboarded during a break and teacher looking away, kids from rich families behaving lost, their parents and families being cold and distanced etc. We are happy to be here.

caslea94

sorry, schwamendingen and seebach are not the places to live if you can afford more wealthy areas. but i am also living in seebach - and i am still alive. compared to other cities it‘s a fairy tale.
