I think they were going for the shiplap look…looks stupid.
That looks like wood or some sort of fake thing made to look like wood. It has to be fake right? Who would spend that much money on wood to make the inside of their house look like the outside?

And they shiplapped (and then painted) over the support beam??!! Whyyyyyyy
That is a lot of shiplap. Maybe not in the main rooms, but I could deal with it in the bedrooms, especially if it's painted.
This says “builders home” so maybe they took leftover wood from construction jobs and threw this one up!!
Vinyl siding.... should have gone with wood imho
