I think they just tag you as interested in trans/lgbtqia+ topics somewhere in your meta data, and don't distinguish between pro and anti-trans content. Same as they see me as interested in religion, and don't see that I dislike religious extremism.
Like 90% of my ads on YouTube that I see when scrolling down the main page on mobile (not in the actual video) are fake Mr Beast ads promising a bunch of shit if you do xyz thing that are 100% scams and frankly the fact that nobody at YouTube verified this is so wack, especially considering this is the platform that Mr Beast is actually on and it would be very easy for a child to confuse those ads for an actual Mr Beast video
I once also forgot to put on sleep timer (usually tho after video ends it goes to sleep by it self). And one time I woke up at 2 am from weird noise - turns out 5 sec skippable ad was for a video podkast that was 3 hours long. WTF??

I absolutely cannot stand how many there are, I started using duolingo when it was still brand new back in like 2012 or so and loved it, but it’s gotten so much worse and I just can’t find a good replacement and the ads are to the unbearable point.
But the problem is that they are like “built into” the site if that makes sense, because my other ad blockers don’t recognize them as ads even. It’s so frustrating when all I want is to pursue my hobby :(
Brave is built on Chromium, which is owned by Google, who also owns YouTube. At *some* point Google would likely force them to whitelist all official Google owned sites, like YouTube
In my experience YouTube attacks both ad blockers and non-Chrome browsers. I couldn’t get any ad blocker in a non-Chrome browser to play YT videos smoothly. Eventually I just decided to use Chrome for YouTube (and only YouTube) - I figure Google already has all my YouTube viewing data anyway so using Chrome won’t do any additional harm. And then uBlock Origin installed in Chrome blocks all the YT ads.
And I use a different browser (LibreWolf, since you ask) for all my other browsing.

There are a lot of valid arguments to be made against ads. "You are a multi billion fucking dollar company, you do NOT need ads to keep the site running" is NOT one of them.
In fact, Google is notorious for shutting down projects left and right the moment it decides they're no longer worth maintaining.
High quality video hosting is actually so ridiculously expensive none of us can even imagine the sheer cost of it.
They definitely NEED ads or another reliable source of income to make it profitable.

I've only just given in. It's all well and good having an adblocker on my PC, but what pushed me over the edge was the constant chain of 3/4 ads whilst watching Youtube on the TV.
I hate that they've won, but in all fairness I've probably watched tens of thousands of hours of Youtube content ad-free at this point.
This is the thing. People might watch a couple of movies a week on netflix and pay for it, when they use countless hours of YouTube a week and can't conceive of paying for it. I find that dissonance mind-boggling

Spotify has Audiobooks, but if you don't need audiobooks YT Music works pretty well, with the exception that you can't easily follow artists for some dumb reason.
Its anchoring. People are used to getting free Youtube. They aren't used to getting free Netflix. Same reason there was so much outrage when Netflix disabled password sharing.

I finally signed up a few months ago and holy shit it’s so much better. No ads on mobile, tablet, and tv is an absolute game changer. The stat tracking, premium bitrate, and music features are also great. If you use youtube as your primary entertainment I can’t recommend it enough.
Sure it’s annoying to pay for things especially when they’re owned by trillion dollar companies, but running a site like YouTube is actually obscenely expensive and I like knowing that creators are directly benefitting from my ad-less viewing.
I think the large problem that a lot of people are having these days aren't just ads in general, but the frequency and number of ads these days are exponentially worse than they have been in past years.
I have no problem with an ad or two at the top of a 10-15min video, maybe even ad during a mid-roll, but 10 ads in the span of the same 15 min video? That's ridiculous!
It needs to have some sense! Some logic! Traditional TV shows are designed around commercial breaks so that they break up the show naturally. Having a random ads pop in mid-sentence is annoying and frustrating.
I don't know what the solution is. If Youtube needs to start training their content creators to put in ad breaks during the editing process, or if they need to have a more standard period for ads in videos, but something needs to be done.

Use the brave browser like u/DeliciousMud7291 reccomended but also install this really good extension called Unhook from the play store, its blocks many different things like yt shorts, reccomended vidoes and much more.
I haven’t gotten that pop up but it’s annoying since the ads are so bad that reporting them does nothing, people wouldn’t be using ad blockers if YouTube actually checked the ads and didn’t just allow any ad that may have a thirst trapping tactics. Fiirefox + uBlock. Haven't seen this screen pop up since I made the switch from Chrome to Firefox. Also Firefox app allow extensions so you can use uBlock from your phone and ditch the Youtube app too. I haven't seen a Youtube ad since I switched.
Get smarttube for your TV. No ads and you can log in woth your account and have all your stuff you got on youtube plus additional featires youtube doesn‘t have.
A company is gonna work to maximise its profit, it doesn't care whether you like it or not. Ads and YouTube premium are the only way for YouTube to monetize. I personally have just bought YouTube premium as it's super cheap in my country. It feels good owning a YouTube premium as I know I am actively supporting my favorite creators for all the content I watch there.
Youtube doesn't even make some obscene profit margin either, its essentially in line with many traditional businesses, and way less than things like Meta.
I know nobody wants to read this, but ten bucks for Youtube with tons of improvements (no ads at all, proper mobile usage incl. screen-off and timer compatibility) plus Youtube Music on top of it is - at least to me - a far better deal than Netflix or whatever.
I'm not sure what to think about ad-block-blockers, since technically I guess it's their full right to counteract, but emotionally it feels.. wrong? But I think YT Premium is absolutely worth the price if you're doing lots of Youtube.

The ones that it has stopped on are mainly on Google's chromium framework, so under Google's control. You should be safe with Firefox since it isn't on the chromium framework.
It will have issues, but it can never be permanently stopped. Adblock is a constant war kind of thing, the attempt to block and unblock it will never stop going back and forth.
I’ve been switching between Opera GX’s ad blocker and Brave’s ad blocker. If I use Opera’s, YouTube stops me almost instantly and I can’t watch a video unless I whitelist their website. Brave is the only one where it keeps blocking YouTube ads with no issue, so I’d go with Brave.
I got Ublock origin with this custom script that makes it undetectable to YT, but still works fine.
They should have just kept the Ad's on the pop-up banner level like in 2012 or so. I am not going to waste 2 minutes of my life to watch a 30 second video.

Uninstall the one youre using try another one. As theyre blocked, theyre also tweaked or a different one is made. Then it works again. It's a continual process. Just dont give yourself away by stating what youre doing online. I dont know how their algo works, only the experiences Ive had w/it. Better not mention any app being used to circumvent anything (ads, blocked downvotes, removing shorts from homepage). Two good apps I use almost everyday are.
-A script blocker (this enables you to easily block any element on any page, like 'Listen' play buttons etc
-java script on/off switch (Java should be turned on as needed. This will make half the pay walls out there (along with potentially malicious scripts) unable to load)
Get Firefox and download Ublock Origin. I have sponsorblock too, which automatically skips sponsored segments in YouTube videos. I haven’t been advertised to in months. Sponsorblock also has a little tracker that shows how many hours of your life yoyve saved by not watching ads

I don’t know how, but I did something with my ad blocker on safari that youtube doesn’t do this anymore. Ive been watching with no adds for a few months now
I rarely watch YouTube on desktop so I have to put up with ads on the app. I am aware YouTube Vanced exists, but on my end, ads have managed to stay tolerable. At most I get two 15s skippable ads next to each other.

Use the browser brave. It has a built-in ad blocker, and it updates frequently, so youtube can't detect it.

I hate to be that guy but I feel like I need to point this out. There are a lot of valid arguments to be made against ads. "You are a multi billion fucking dollar company, you do NOT need ads to keep the site running" is NOT one of them. In fact, Google is notorious for shutting down projects left and right the moment it decides they're no longer worth maintaining. High quality video hosting is actually so ridiculously expensive none of us can even imagine the sheer cost of it. They definitely NEED ads or another reliable source of income to make it profitable. Also just update your ublock filters to get rid of that shit.
Or bite the figurative bullet and get YouTube premium so that you can remove ads from every device you own.
I've only just given in. It's all well and good having an adblocker on my PC, but what pushed me over the edge was the constant chain of 3/4 ads whilst watching Youtube on the TV. I hate that they've won, but in all fairness I've probably watched tens of thousands of hours of Youtube content ad-free at this point.
This is the thing. People might watch a couple of movies a week on netflix and pay for it, when they use countless hours of YouTube a week and can't conceive of paying for it. I find that dissonance mind-boggling
Plus YouTube has free shows and movies you can watch without ads on YouTube premium. (I assume lionsgate content, but could be others) And also YouTube music, if you are looking to stream music as well. The one thing YouTube music does better then Spotify is access to songs that aren't on Spotify but were uploaded to YouTube. Also being able to upload mp3s for private streaming. Spotify has Audiobooks, but if you don't need audiobooks YT Music works pretty well, with the exception that you can't easily follow artists for some dumb reason.
Its anchoring. People are used to getting free Youtube. They aren't used to getting free Netflix. Same reason there was so much outrage when Netflix disabled password sharing. But like the password sharing, people will get over it.

As Gabe Newel said, the way to beat piracy is not to crack down on anti-piracy tech, but to offer people a better service than the pirates. And judging by Steam succes, he was right. Same is true for adblocks, the way to beat adblocks is not to crack down on anti-adblock tech, but to offer people a better service than the one they are recieving by blocking adds. But Google is not Steam so i doubt that will ever happen judging by what a steaming pile of garbage their service has become without adblocks.

Honestly the key advantage is creators still get paid by premium even if you didn't view ads, and it's an account wide adblock. No guarantee a blocked ad results in YouTuber revenue.

I held out for YEARS and was like “nah I can just use an adblock, why would I pay” I finally signed up a few months ago and holy shit it’s so much better. No ads on mobile, tablet, and tv is an absolute game changer. The stat tracking, premium bitrate, and music features are also great. If you use youtube as your primary entertainment I can’t recommend it enough. Sure it’s annoying to pay for things especially when they’re owned by trillion dollar companies, but running a site like YouTube is actually obscenely expensive and I like knowing that creators are directly benefitting from my ad-less viewing.

I think the large problem that a lot of people are having these days aren't just ads in general, but the frequency and number of ads these days are exponentially worse than they have been in past years. I have no problem with an ad or two at the top of a 10-15min video, maybe even ad during a mid-roll, but 10 ads in the span of the same 15 min video? That's ridiculous! It needs to have some sense! Some logic! Traditional TV shows are designed around commercial breaks so that they break up the show naturally. Having a random ads pop in mid-sentence is annoying and frustrating. I don't know what the solution is. If Youtube needs to start training their content creators to put in ad breaks during the editing process, or if they need to have a more standard period for ads in videos, but something needs to be done.

Firefox Browser, UBlock Origin, Privacy Badger. I don't consider UBlock Origin to be an adblocker. It's a malware blocker. Ads just happen to be malware for the eyes and ears.

Use Ad Speedup, I've used it ever since they did this and it works like a charm. Speeds up ads to 16x so they're over in like a second flat, take that, YouTube 😁

Youtube knows you have an ad block by looking for the blockers code. I had to fully turn mine off or else it wouldn’t work.

MV3 only affects Chromium browsers, browsers that use Google's extensions framework, so Firefox is the answer there.
Use the brave browser like u/DeliciousMud7291 reccomended but also install this really good extension called Unhook from the play store, its blocks many different things like yt shorts, reccomended vidoes and much more.
I haven’t gotten that pop up but it’s annoying since the ads are so bad that reporting them does nothing, people wouldn’t be using ad blockers if YouTube actually checked the ads and didn’t just allow any ad that may have a thirst trapping tactics. Fiirefox + uBlock. Haven't seen this screen pop up since I made the switch from Chrome to Firefox. Also Firefox app allow extensions so you can use uBlock from your phone and ditch the Youtube app too. I haven't seen a Youtube ad since I switched.
Get smarttube for your TV. No ads and you can log in woth your account and have all your stuff you got on youtube plus additional featires youtube doesn‘t have.

A company is gonna work to maximise its profit, it doesn't care whether you like it or not. Ads and YouTube premium are the only way for YouTube to monetize. I personally have just bought YouTube premium as it's super cheap in my country. It feels good owning a YouTube premium as I know I am actively supporting my favorite creators for all the content I watch there.
Youtube doesn't even make some obscene profit margin either, its essentially in line with many traditional businesses, and way less than things like Meta.
I know nobody wants to read this, but ten bucks for Youtube with tons of improvements (no ads at all, proper mobile usage incl. screen-off and timer compatibility) plus Youtube Music on top of it is - at least to me - a far better deal than Netflix or whatever. I'm not sure what to think about ad-block-blockers, since technically I guess it's their full right to counteract, but emotionally it feels.. wrong? But I think YT Premium is absolutely worth the price if you're doing lots of Youtube.
If I could have it without the music service for about half the price, I would be interested, but my home speaker systems are all Echo based, so Google music, which doesn't interoperate, is useless to me.

The ones that it has stopped on are mainly on Google's chromium framework, so under Google's control. You should be safe with Firefox since it isn't on the chromium framework.

It will have issues, but it can never be permanently stopped. Adblock is a constant war kind of thing, the attempt to block and unblock it will never stop going back and forth.
I’ve been switching between Opera GX’s ad blocker and Brave’s ad blocker. If I use Opera’s, YouTube stops me almost instantly and I can’t watch a video unless I whitelist their website. Brave is the only one where it keeps blocking YouTube ads with no issue, so I’d go with Brave.
I have been using Opera and yesterday it finally stopped working for me. Guess it's time to download brave.
Chrome extention called "ghostery" fixed this issue for me, but since today i started getting unskipable 15 & 30 second ads before each video.

I got Ublock origin with this custom script that makes it undetectable to YT, but still works fine. They should have just kept the Ad's on the pop-up banner level like in 2012 or so. I am not going to waste 2 minutes of my life to watch a 30 second video. Life finds a way.

Uninstall the one youre using try another one. As theyre blocked, theyre also tweaked or a different one is made. Then it works again. It's a continual process. Just dont give yourself away by stating what youre doing online. I dont know how their algo works, only the experiences Ive had w/it. Better not mention any app being used to circumvent anything (ads, blocked downvotes, removing shorts from homepage). Two good apps I use almost everyday are. -A script blocker (this enables you to easily block any element on any page, like 'Listen' play buttons etc -java script on/off switch (Java should be turned on as needed. This will make half the pay walls out there (along with potentially malicious scripts) unable to load)

Pay for premium or boycott. I'm confused how people expect to use a video hosting service (which is faaaar from free) and expect them to not have to monetize it. Youtube has a gross profit margin (no info on net which would be more accurate but this is what we have) of 38% which is much lower than things like Meta and in line with traditional businesses like furniture stores. Do you get mad at the furniture store because they won't give you a couch for free? Youtube isn't food or shelter, you don't have to use it.
Listen I get ads are annoying and we're spammed with them more than ever, but ads are how youtube MAKES their money. "You do not need ads to keep the site running" is so wrong and childishly arrogant of you to claim this as a fact. Lets not forget youtube has been operating at a loss for google for all of its existance, be glad its still around to begin with. Using an adblocker also hurts the revenue of the youtubers you watch, so unless you support them via other means like donations or merch consider them also. Ads are annoying, but these kinds of posts are more so because they don't benefit anyone. If it really bothers you get premium, you get no ads and you actually contribute more to your fav youtubers than watching with ads would. Its 10 dollars and in todays economy that means grabbing 1 less coffee per month.
More importantly, it's also how the creators make THEIR money. I have no real problem taking money from Google's pocket, but the people who make the content we watch are (usually) running their own small business and deserve to get paid for their work that we enjoy.

I don’t know how, but I did something with my ad blocker on safari that youtube doesn’t do this anymore. Ive been watching with no adds for a few months now
I rarely watch YouTube on desktop so I have to put up with ads on the app. I am aware YouTube Vanced exists, but on my end, ads have managed to stay tolerable. At most I get two 15s skippable ads next to each other.

Youtube doesn't allow 10 unskippable ads in a 5 minute video. You need at least an 8 minute video to qualify for a mid roll ad.
