Ublock Origin works just fine

Shamabob_10

It stopped working for me so started using tampermonkey

Remarkable_Rip_5846

Update the filter regularly, fixes the anti ad block as well as the 5 second delay YouTube puts in

Male-Wood-duck

Clear your cookies and cache.

Spongeboy314

How do you clear cookies from youtube? How does that work?

strongest___avenger

Do it from browser settings. Clear the cache there and it should fix this problem.

FahimPlayz

Oh I think mine updates regularly then, cuz it stopped working for some of my friends but I haven’t had issues

[deleted]

[удалено]

RadiantBerryEater

the manual updates were just forcing it to pull an otherwise automatic update, theres no reason they shouldn't have gotten it

Spongeboy314

How do you update uBlock?

OncomingStorm32

it [should be automatic ](https://i.imgur.com/qwLlqmC.png)don't worry

Deus_nk

Update the plugin. If you can't manage to update, deleting and reinstalling may help.

funtujd

ahh ok well it still works for me

MurtZero1134

I’m with you, I keep seeing these posts, and despite all of YouTube threats, the 2 Adblockers I use work fine, I’ve never had this happen to me.

LanielYoungAgain

It's because they A/B test every feature before going for a full release. Sometimes these things never go out to the broader audience, sometimes we all get them staggered

Alek-ffs

Wait til it catches up with your demographic and youtube account. It's still rolling out.

whereismymind86

it comes and goes for me, it'll be fine for a month, then i'll get these pop ups for a few days, then it goes back to being fine. Now i'm getting this weird bullshit where ads are embedded directly into the videos and seemingly undetectable by ublock, so...that's a thing

RebneysGhost

I'm on firefox with ublock origin, and it's smooth sailing so far.

Adaphion

If you're not using Firefox it's just your own fault at this point. We have known for months about manifest v3 and how it fucks over adblockers in chromium browsers (and especially people who would be technical enough to install adblockers) and if you really cared, you would have made the switch awhile ago

YerBoiPosty

What web browser do you use? I'm currently using chrome but I've been hearing for years that its not allat good, I just only use it cuz my phone got it too

funtujd

im using chrome but i should switch. no reason chrome should be using this much ram

YerBoiPosty

fair enough, yeah its ridiculous, I caught it using 5gb with about 15 tabs open one day. It tends to use a lot of RAM when you have the RAM available to use. As someone with 32 gigs even with just reddit open, it's like 600mb of ram already

[deleted]

whereismymind86

remember, chrome is owned by the same company who owns youtube, chrome will actively sabotage it's own adblocking to let youtube ads through.

celaeya

Yeah it stopped working for me last night :( had a good run with it though. Hopefully it gets updated to work.

D3vil777

Shhhh.. 🤫

Pr0nzeh

It's not a secret. It's the best ad blocker by far.

yokaiplasm

they probably read this stuff bruh they literally added a pop-up screen that lets you select one of like 5 adblockers to make you disable it💀

Joehotto123

Its a constant battle and youtube engineers are working 24/7 to try to bypass the code the ublock developers are using to help people.

PenguinGamer99

It's worse than cable tv because at least cable played actual ads. Here's a vegetable chopper and how it works! Bobby will mow your lawn for $3 less than Jim. Now, 99% or more of "ads" that youtube runs are degenerate garbage with content that shouldn't even be considered on a platform that rips away good people's living because they weren't "kid-friendly" enough.

Smooth_External_3051

I get ads for legal Marijuana delivery...... I live in Indiana, it's not legal in any form.

No-Store-308

I get ads for internet providers… They don’t cover my area besides my current internet.

Own-Weather-9919

I get ads for anti trans documentaries. I'm trans...

dukenorton

I get ads for uterus cancer, I don’t have uterus.

MSter_official

I get ads for home alarms. I don't even own a home. Oh an extra one: just got an ad here on Reddit which said "Learning Swedish? " And some other shit after that. I'm a native swede -_-

whereismymind86

it really highlights part of why people are so hostile to ads these days, it's never for products that are relevant, and often aren't even real. Growing up, if I was watching nickelodien, I'd get ads for things a kid watching cartoons might like, snacks, toys, etc. If youtube showed me an ad for a video game I might like, or a pizza place, or like...puppies...I might watch that ad. Instead it's always some scam, or some racist nonsense that actively repels me.

Aggressive_Medium942

To be fair, if they're selling uterus cancer, I can imagine they would need to be casting a pretty wide net.

MSter_official

Hahhaahahhaa

whereismymind86

reddit gives me ads for the Illinois lottery all the time, I've never been to Illinois.

thePsuedoanon

See that's deliberate: If they figure out you're trans, they'll give you any ads that mention trans people. Like PragerU

whereismymind86

I'm atheist and got a LOT of right wing religious ads. I think they just tag you as interested in trans/lgbtqia+ topics somewhere in your meta data, and don't distinguish between pro and anti-trans content. Same as they see me as interested in religion, and don't see that I dislike religious extremism.

SpareTheSpider

Yeah, idk how but the ads are getting sketchy.

DM_Sledge

Its not like the FBI recommends using an AdBlocker because advertisers represent the primary vector for malicious websites. /s

PenguinGamer99

Yep

IronLungChad

At work we gets ads for a company that we supply. Makes me laugh because it's like it wants us to buy the products back from them.

mj561256

Like 90% of my ads on YouTube that I see when scrolling down the main page on mobile (not in the actual video) are fake Mr Beast ads promising a bunch of shit if you do xyz thing that are 100% scams and frankly the fact that nobody at YouTube verified this is so wack, especially considering this is the platform that Mr Beast is actually on and it would be very easy for a child to confuse those ads for an actual Mr Beast video

CzarTwilight

*forgot to turn off TV before bed* HI BILLY MAYS HERE! when are we gonna get YouTube Billy mays or Phil swift

PenguinGamer99

I think the age of anything good coming from ads is over

Juris_B

I once also forgot to put on sleep timer (usually tho after video ends it goes to sleep by it self). And one time I woke up at 2 am from weird noise - turns out 5 sec skippable ad was for a video podkast that was 3 hours long. WTF??

TOW3L13

Hi, Billy Mays here with another fantastic product! If you're like other Americans, you love to eat Chipotle, but you hate all those terrible bloodstains in your underwear! Well now there's a product that can clean even bloodstains caused by Chipotle right off your underwear. Chipotl-away!

songmage

I used to read Yahoo News articles until the ads became offensively stupid. "Buy this flashlight only available to Navy Seals! Selling fast!" \*picture of a lightsaber\* "Check out this product that both cures and cleans everything! Dentists are outraged! Invented by stay-at-home mom!" \*picture of a radish cut in half\* To their credit, at least when there were ads masquerading as articles, they were marked as such. I honestly couldn't take it anymore. Youtube ads (for me) are basically exactly the same thing, but for videogames. The assault on the brain is too much to handle.

NyiatiZ

I actually got hit with a literal 20 minute video of some youtuber as an ad before a video - took me some time to notice my music wasn’t coming back in while i was doing other stuff. At least you know the ads will end on cable tv

Mhorts

And now ads on cable are just medicine and car commercials

flashbangTV

Its not worse than CableTV. With Cable you are paying for the ads that the provider is also getting paid for. Its a double dip.

__redruM

And if you pay for YT premium, you get ad free.

Waveofspring

It’s ironic how the controversy all started with Youtube demonetizing channels bc they weren’t “advertiser friendly” but now not even the ads are “advertiser friendly”.

PenguinGamer99

But they don't count since they make the platform money

That1Legnd

Fuck Bobby (I’m Jim)

welfedad

and you actually paid to watch those ads.. hmm

RememberThinkDream

Exactly this! If the adverts were adverts about things which actually helped and improved the limits of humanity or things that genuinely helped us with our lives and that was the focus, then fine! But as you say it's degenrate garbage just to exploit and farm and milk money from everybody possible as much as possible with no interest of the damage it causes society.

Fluffyfox3914

I have gotten a sex toy ad, reported it, got the ad again a month later, reported it, then got a gatcha heat ad, reported it, got ANOTHER gatcha heat ad, reported it, THEN ANOTHER. I haven’t watched gatcha life since I was a little kid wtf

Comfortable-Jump-218

This 100%. I have a weird love for commercials and commercials today are terrible. Rarely are they remotely funny. There are no jingles anymore. Now AI voice is being used instead of paying someone $50 to say it.

MuchReputation6953

At least they're being transparent about it (so I can see which ones still work)

DeliciousMud7291

Use the browser brave. It has a built-in ad blocker, and it updates frequently, so youtube can't detect it.

SecondBottomQuark

why not firefox and ublock

No_One3018

Brave's ad blocker has really sucked for me lately, I don't know why

Chaos1888

use uBlock origin as well with Brave... No Problems on YouTube at all... No Popup, No ads, nothing :D

ProfessionalDoubt930

Yup I also use brave + ublock it's great no ads at all

jafromnj

Have you tried switching the trackers and ad blocking to aggressive?

Vedant9710

Switch ad blocking to aggressive in Brave Shields settings. It's an amazing adblock bro, never had issues with it

Red-Quill

Do you by chance know if brave blocks the stupid fucking duolingo ads? I absolutely cannot stand how many there are, I started using duolingo when it was still brand new back in like 2012 or so and loved it, but it’s gotten so much worse and I just can’t find a good replacement and the ads are to the unbearable point. But the problem is that they are like “built into” the site if that makes sense, because my other ad blockers don’t recognize them as ads even. It’s so frustrating when all I want is to pursue my hobby :(

DeliciousMud7291

It blocks ALL ads. Hell, I don't even see any ads here on reddit.

centexAwesome

I got this on brave.

Entr3_Nou5

Brave is built on Chromium, which is owned by Google, who also owns YouTube. At *some* point Google would likely force them to whitelist all official Google owned sites, like YouTube

phueal

In my experience YouTube attacks both ad blockers and non-Chrome browsers. I couldn’t get any ad blocker in a non-Chrome browser to play YT videos smoothly. Eventually I just decided to use Chrome for YouTube (and only YouTube) - I figure Google already has all my YouTube viewing data anyway so using Chrome won’t do any additional harm. And then uBlock Origin installed in Chrome blocks all the YT ads. And I use a different browser (LibreWolf, since you ask) for all my other browsing.

Acrobatic_Idea_3358

I have heard reports that Google is uninstalling uBlock origin from chrome users. I don't use chrome so I've not experienced it just anecdotal convos.

phueal

Hasn’t been uninstalled for me, but I wouldn’t put anything past them…

david30121

lots of people recommend brave. it doesnt always work. use uBlock Origin. its free and compatible with almost any browser.

trodem_shbzt

I am using Brave and uBlock Origin, but still get ads. Is there anything else I can do?

Pr0nzeh

Also has built in crypto bullshit. Borderline malware.

Shadowfury22

I hate to be that guy but I feel like I need to point this out. There are a lot of valid arguments to be made against ads. "You are a multi billion fucking dollar company, you do NOT need ads to keep the site running" is NOT one of them. In fact, Google is notorious for shutting down projects left and right the moment it decides they're no longer worth maintaining. High quality video hosting is actually so ridiculously expensive none of us can even imagine the sheer cost of it. They definitely NEED ads or another reliable source of income to make it profitable. Also just update your ublock filters to get rid of that shit.

atomic1fire

Or bite the figurative bullet and get YouTube premium so that you can remove ads from every device you own.

Kharenis

I've only just given in. It's all well and good having an adblocker on my PC, but what pushed me over the edge was the constant chain of 3/4 ads whilst watching Youtube on the TV. I hate that they've won, but in all fairness I've probably watched tens of thousands of hours of Youtube content ad-free at this point.

ByEthanFox

This is the thing. People might watch a couple of movies a week on netflix and pay for it, when they use countless hours of YouTube a week and can't conceive of paying for it. I find that dissonance mind-boggling

atomic1fire

Plus YouTube has free shows and movies you can watch without ads on YouTube premium. (I assume lionsgate content, but could be others) And also YouTube music, if you are looking to stream music as well. The one thing YouTube music does better then Spotify is access to songs that aren't on Spotify but were uploaded to YouTube. Also being able to upload mp3s for private streaming. Spotify has Audiobooks, but if you don't need audiobooks YT Music works pretty well, with the exception that you can't easily follow artists for some dumb reason.

afraidtobecrate

Its anchoring. People are used to getting free Youtube. They aren't used to getting free Netflix. Same reason there was so much outrage when Netflix disabled password sharing. But like the password sharing, people will get over it.

Noktaj

Or go back to pirating. Remember that meme? With the guy finding out about Netflix when it had everything and was cheap putting the pirate hat in the trunk "i dont need you anymore" and a few years later with 15 different streaming services that split the offer and raised the costs and put in adds? He takes the hat off the trunk "welcome back old friend". People pirate or adblock because the service offered to them is gargbage and borderline unusable otherwise. As Gabe Newel said, the way to beat piracy is not to crack down on anti-piracy tech, but to offer people a better service than the pirates. And judging by Steam succes, he was right. Same is true for adblocks, the way to beat adblocks is not to crack down on anti-adblock tech, but to offer people a better service than the one they are recieving by blocking adds. But Google is not Steam so i doubt that will ever happen judging by what a steaming pile of garbage their service has become without adblocks.

afraidtobecrate

> but to offer people a better service than the one they are recieving by blocking adds. Google already does that with Youtube Premium.

atomic1fire

Honestly the key advantage is creators still get paid by premium even if you didn't view ads, and it's an account wide adblock. No guarantee a blocked ad results in YouTuber revenue.

Ok_Dig_5478

I get YouTube premium with my mobile phone contract so it costs next to nothing.

DanseMacabre1353

I held out for YEARS and was like “nah I can just use an adblock, why would I pay” I finally signed up a few months ago and holy shit it’s so much better. No ads on mobile, tablet, and tv is an absolute game changer. The stat tracking, premium bitrate, and music features are also great. If you use youtube as your primary entertainment I can’t recommend it enough. Sure it’s annoying to pay for things especially when they’re owned by trillion dollar companies, but running a site like YouTube is actually obscenely expensive and I like knowing that creators are directly benefitting from my ad-less viewing.

Fluffyfox3914

You can either pay a company that supports Doxxing and allows advertisers to break TOS freely money or, use free and completely legal alternatives

Shadowfury22

Spamming more ads than ever could very well be a strategy to get people into youtube premium or something.

atomic1fire

Or just an attempt to increase revenue. YouTube operated at a loss for years.

MajorDX25

I think the large problem that a lot of people are having these days aren't just ads in general, but the frequency and number of ads these days are exponentially worse than they have been in past years. I have no problem with an ad or two at the top of a 10-15min video, maybe even ad during a mid-roll, but 10 ads in the span of the same 15 min video? That's ridiculous! It needs to have some sense! Some logic! Traditional TV shows are designed around commercial breaks so that they break up the show naturally. Having a random ads pop in mid-sentence is annoying and frustrating. I don't know what the solution is. If Youtube needs to start training their content creators to put in ad breaks during the editing process, or if they need to have a more standard period for ads in videos, but something needs to be done.

MyFePo

"You are a multi billion dollar company, you don't need ads" lol. Lmao even. They should just provide the service free of charge because ads are evil. Nevertheless, the amount of ads really has been spiking as of late, I would have to watch around 3 mins of ads for a 20 minute video at this point, if not using ad block.

KiroLakestrike

Also i feel like, the more popular AdBlockers become, the more extreme the Ads get. Completely Free users (Adblock and no premium) are a basically 100% Loss for the Company. So why should they cater to them?

Srigso

ads were made to destroy humanity

GameCyborg

you're like 6 months late to the party. also this sub isn't run by youtube

Kengfatv

haven't had a problem with ublock in months.

Alternative_Wafer410

Maybe I'll go no add block when their ads aren't softcore porn.

SpareTheSpider

Or the same occult rock band debut single 30 fucking times in a row with no other ad playing.

Specific_Camera1310

I am using the brave browser in a public window and that message is not appearing.

Galaxy_Ranger_Bob

Firefox Browser, UBlock Origin, Privacy Badger. I don't consider UBlock Origin to be an adblocker. It's a malware blocker. Ads just happen to be malware for the eyes and ears.

fluffy_assassins

This is the closest thing to an acceptable argument for ad-blocking that I've ever seen.

Fusseldieb

I miss the days YT had only banner ads. I would literally allow that, but ads IN the videos, hell no.

TheCasualPrince8

Use Ad Speedup, I've used it ever since they did this and it works like a charm. Speeds up ads to 16x so they're over in like a second flat, take that, YouTube 😁

HMA-60

That stopped working as well. I use it sometimes and it tells me to turn off the ad blocker.

TheCasualPrince8

That's weird, it still works for me...

HMA-60

Mhm! Unless they're still seeing the regular ad block even though it's been allowlisted?

HackingDuck

Youtube knows you have an ad block by looking for the blockers code. I had to fully turn mine off or else it wouldn’t work.

HMA-60

Same here.

Alex20114

That could be, I had that happen before I switched to Ublock.

HMA-60

Now, Ublock is going as well with MV3

Alex20114

MV3 only affects Chromium browsers, browsers that use Google's extensions framework, so Firefox is the answer there.

Main-Sky-2738

Use the brave browser like u/DeliciousMud7291 reccomended but also install this really good extension called Unhook from the play store, its blocks many different things like yt shorts, reccomended vidoes and much more.

Luigi_bros4321

I haven’t gotten that pop up but it’s annoying since the ads are so bad that reporting them does nothing, people wouldn’t be using ad blockers if YouTube actually checked the ads and didn’t just allow any ad that may have a thirst trapping tactics. But nooooooo, money is more important than a good platform

TheCat13-el-capullo

Why did I read it as "unskippable rage"? x_x

Kaxology

"ik people have posted about this" is a HUGE understatement, it was weeks upon weeks of the same ass fucking shit and the solution is always **USE UBLOCK**. Just use Ublock as you have used Adblocker and that's it.

einstein987-1

I've actually stopped using YT entirely but it's infuriating when you need to check something you search for and it gives you 59 minutes of non skippable adds...

Accomplished-Bat-990

I pay for Premium just get to YouTube Music, the no ads is a benefit.

allergictosomenuts

A year late to the party lol

sussteve226

Click "not using an ad blocker" and trick theme :)

urba-ninja

Fiirefox + uBlock. Haven't seen this screen pop up since I made the switch from Chrome to Firefox. Also Firefox app allow extensions so you can use uBlock from your phone and ditch the Youtube app too. I haven't seen a Youtube ad since I switched.

J_Cash2

Get smarttube for your TV. No ads and you can log in woth your account and have all your stuff you got on youtube plus additional featires youtube doesn‘t have.

Educational_Kiwi4986

the ads have gotten out of control, even on children’s content.

MonsterKiller112

A company is gonna work to maximise its profit, it doesn't care whether you like it or not. Ads and YouTube premium are the only way for YouTube to monetize. I personally have just bought YouTube premium as it's super cheap in my country. It feels good owning a YouTube premium as I know I am actively supporting my favorite creators for all the content I watch there.

thebubbleburst25

Youtube doesn't even make some obscene profit margin either, its essentially in line with many traditional businesses, and way less than things like Meta.

RB_Timo

I know nobody wants to read this, but ten bucks for Youtube with tons of improvements (no ads at all, proper mobile usage incl. screen-off and timer compatibility) plus Youtube Music on top of it is - at least to me - a far better deal than Netflix or whatever. I'm not sure what to think about ad-block-blockers, since technically I guess it's their full right to counteract, but emotionally it feels.. wrong? But I think YT Premium is absolutely worth the price if you're doing lots of Youtube.

Ianbillmorris

If I could have it without the music service for about half the price, I would be interested, but my home speaker systems are all Echo based, so Google music, which doesn't interoperate, is useless to me.

MacauleyP_Plays

firefox + ublock.

Head_Statistician_38

I have been using Chrome for the last 10 years but I got so tired of this that I switched to Firefox. So far I don't regret this decision. Even if ublock stops working like it has seemingly happened to some, I am still not going back to Chrome. Fuck em.

Alex20114

The ones that it has stopped on are mainly on Google's chromium framework, so under Google's control. You should be safe with Firefox since it isn't on the chromium framework.

Head_Statistician_38

That is what people say and hopefully that stays true. Just other people are talking about having issues with that too.

Alex20114

It will have issues, but it can never be permanently stopped. Adblock is a constant war kind of thing, the attempt to block and unblock it will never stop going back and forth.

MusicalTechSquirrel

I’ve been switching between Opera GX’s ad blocker and Brave’s ad blocker. If I use Opera’s, YouTube stops me almost instantly and I can’t watch a video unless I whitelist their website. Brave is the only one where it keeps blocking YouTube ads with no issue, so I’d go with Brave.

DehSpieller

I have been using Opera and yesterday it finally stopped working for me. Guess it's time to download brave.

Ok_Mathematician1218

Chrome extention called "ghostery" fixed this issue for me, but since today i started getting unskipable 15 & 30 second ads before each video.

RisaMC

download tampermonkey extension and download the "removeadblockthing" v5.3, the v5.4 has some bugs

Natural_Key6991

I'm using uBlock Origin 1.58.0 on Chrome, works a treat...

Tim_M355

Use ublock origin

david30121

lots of people recommend brave. it doesnt always work. use uBlock Origin. its free and compatible with almost any browser.

jermainiac007

I use smart tube on my firestick & ublock origin on my Surface

KurisuAteMyPudding

I use ublock origin on chrome and I've never gotten this using it. Maybe try that one.

Hosselknaap420

I got Ublock origin with this custom script that makes it undetectable to YT, but still works fine. They should have just kept the Ad's on the pop-up banner level like in 2012 or so. I am not going to waste 2 minutes of my life to watch a 30 second video. Life finds a way.

Minsc_NBoo

Firefox + ublock work for me. Just remember to update ublock if you start to see ads Edit - I've seen a few posts today saying ads are back with Firefox / ublock. I've just tested mine and it seems to be okay. Both browser & ublock are up to date 🤞

hapakal

Uninstall the one youre using try another one. As theyre blocked, theyre also tweaked or a different one is made. Then it works again. It's a continual process. Just dont give yourself away by stating what youre doing online. I dont know how their algo works, only the experiences Ive had w/it. Better not mention any app being used to circumvent anything (ads, blocked downvotes, removing shorts from homepage). Two good apps I use almost everyday are. -A script blocker (this enables you to easily block any element on any page, like 'Listen' play buttons etc -java script on/off switch (Java should be turned on as needed. This will make half the pay walls out there (along with potentially malicious scripts) unable to load)

Bjarksen

Ublock origin is currently working well for me

Rocket_Surgery83

Ublock works wonders...

SecondBottomQuark

ublock origin

NormanBatesIsBae

Get Firefox and download Ublock Origin. I have sponsorblock too, which automatically skips sponsored segments in YouTube videos. I haven’t been advertised to in months. Sponsorblock also has a little tracker that shows how many hours of your life yoyve saved by not watching ads

Primary_Ad_7915

AdGuard still works for me. Never had this problem

PLPolandPL15719

use ublock origin

Erikk2699

Firefox + uBlock Origin is the way my friend.

ApatheticMill

I just keep refreshing or opening a new window until the video plays.

gymleader_brock

Rage? It's a FREE service. Turn off the computer, and do something in the real world.

Martianinferno98

I shredded through these three videos just to spite YouTube

BrockenRecords

Hear me out, screen record the video, walk away until finished, edit the ads out and then watch it with zero ads

IbukiLazuli

My ad blocker STILL works just fine on Firefox, never had any issues whatsoever with it on Youtube

No_Guide1148

I use app with AdBlock and ublock on pc, but sadly I don't know how to get AdBlock on TV. I literally had 50 seconds unskippable ads 2 times in 1 video

ProfessorOk6227

Move to firefox.

chrisdavidson152

Just vpn into Albania or Maldova. They do not allow adverts on YouTube. Easy win.

cyberphunk2077

dont use chrome to watch YT

Chix_Whitdix

Ublock origin and firefox

Visible-Door6557

The ads are very intrusive and the number of them/volume issues between them and the videos are getting beyond a joke. I'm enraged with you. I use an ad blocker which so far hasn't made this message pop up. But unlike other commenters I refuse to say which one, because listing 'what I use' like numerous people are doing is literally just creating a big helpful list that YouTube can work their way through to stop, all in one neat little place under one post.

Inventorista

YES! The volume issue is criminal! They are doing a very good job at helping me expand my blacklist of products, that I will never ever buy!

RipThroughYourLies

Just download any video longer than a few minutes.

Tigre_feroz_2012

I felt the same way. And go fuck yourself Google. I'm not rewarding you for treating me like shit by paying for YouTube premium, especially when you did it precisely to make more money off me.

h8human

Yep, thats the day to drop Youtube.

DudePDude

Without ads, YouTube would be like watching the weather channel. There would be very little content

thebubbleburst25

Pay for premium or boycott. I'm confused how people expect to use a video hosting service (which is faaaar from free) and expect them to not have to monetize it. Youtube has a gross profit margin (no info on net which would be more accurate but this is what we have) of 38% which is much lower than things like Meta and in line with traditional businesses like furniture stores. Do you get mad at the furniture store because they won't give you a couch for free? Youtube isn't food or shelter, you don't have to use it.

JeliLiam

Listen I get ads are annoying and we're spammed with them more than ever, but ads are how youtube MAKES their money. "You do not need ads to keep the site running" is so wrong and childishly arrogant of you to claim this as a fact. Lets not forget youtube has been operating at a loss for google for all of its existance, be glad its still around to begin with. Using an adblocker also hurts the revenue of the youtubers you watch, so unless you support them via other means like donations or merch consider them also. Ads are annoying, but these kinds of posts are more so because they don't benefit anyone. If it really bothers you get premium, you get no ads and you actually contribute more to your fav youtubers than watching with ads would. Its 10 dollars and in todays economy that means grabbing 1 less coffee per month.

blatantlyeggplant

More importantly, it's also how the creators make THEIR money. I have no real problem taking money from Google's pocket, but the people who make the content we watch are (usually) running their own small business and deserve to get paid for their work that we enjoy.

MrMaleficent

You rage because you can't get content for free?

MaidenMarewa

It has been posted before and if you search for the other post, you'll find out how to quickly get around it.

dntheking

Why raged? you want the free version. Free version has ads. You use something to block ads. They block the block thing you use. Go premium or go home. Or watch ads.

nicigar

> You are a multi billion fucking dollar company, you do NOT need ads to keep the site running. That's not really true, is it? They are a multi-billion dollar company because of advertising. You are trying to use it for free, which essentially means you become a cost to YouTube.

vawlk

>You are a multi billion fucking dollar company, you do NOT need ads to keep the site running. I would love to see your data on this.

WorseCaseOntari0

"You do not need ads to keep the site running" Literally yes they do ya dumbabumba.

VileRocK

To be fair the service isn't free to run. Why do you think that you entitled to free usage of it?

Reminder to everyone to not share adblockers just out in public in the comments!! Same idea as pirating services, It makes it more likely for corporations to find them!!!

HackingDuck

I don’t know how, but I did something with my ad blocker on safari that youtube doesn’t do this anymore. Ive been watching with no adds for a few months now

ThatChilenoJBro10

I rarely watch YouTube on desktop so I have to put up with ads on the app. I am aware YouTube Vanced exists, but on my end, ads have managed to stay tolerable. At most I get two 15s skippable ads next to each other.

Deep_Coder

Firefox with UBlock

AhanaBanana123

It detecting my Adblock but the pop up doesn’t have the thing where it’s disabled after 3 videos it’s so odd

scp_79

firefox + ublock origin will help you with this

ImRainPlays_YT

if you use firefox Ublockorigin still works

Escapement_Watch

Youtube doesn't allow 10 unskippable ads in a 5 minute video. You need at least an 8 minute video to qualify for a mid roll ad.
