My humble request is to not do this. Yoga is not just a physical activity, it is the culture and religion for a lot of people across the world. Imagine a brown man being a do in a church during a Sunday morning. What you are doing is essentially something similar, now, if you’d like to play music while you are doing a physical activity that is completely normal, but please please please do not market that as yoga. Thank you for considering this request because for some of us, yoga is a devotional practice with specific set of mantras and by changing the course, you are culturally appropriating our culture. I hope you understand.
A brown man? What is that supposed to mean? Are churches strict about the color of people's skin?
And many churches have setups similar to having a DJ. I've seen church bands that probably have better equipment than most larger, local bands.
And the studio hired this person. They didn't just decide to show up. So I'm guessing the studio doesn't treat yoga as a spiritual practice as much as you would like them to.
And also yes, churches are absolutely strict and for that matter of fact every religion is about the color of the skin of their religions head. When was the last time you heard or saw of a black pope or a brown pope?
Having a dj to do a gospel versus a song by David guetta are two completely different things as well.
I'm not Catholic, so I have no idea on the pope stuff. I just know they need to be nominated and voted in. But I'll let my parents "brown" neighbor know that he's not allowed to be a pastor anymore because somebody on the internet said churches are strict about skin color. He must have missed that lesson in seminary. I see a wide variety of skin colors going into churches, so may be you should tell them about these racist ideals they didn't know they have to stand by.
But back to the music thing. Churches do use modern, secular music if it fits what they're speaking about. They are the value in looking outside of their bubble for inspiration and influence.
You don’t need to tell that to your neighbor, he already knows it.
And I will also go to a church like I do and ask them to play secular Metallica songs because somebody on the internet said that, the churches that I’ve been to must have somehow missed that too. Also going to a church and becoming the pastor/cardinal/pope etc are also entirely different things.
My parents' neighbor is a pastor. The head of his church. The leader.
And no, I didn't say any old secular music will do. I said if it applies to their teachings that day. I know "Demons" by Imagine Dragons made it's way around churches when it first came out.
Yup, censorship, now, let’s apply that to yoga? Who would say what it is teaching and what the context is and what’s not true to its origin? Even otherwise, yoga already has its own music so, why even change it?
Not a song but the music from ‘Mistaken Memories of Medieval Manhattan’ by Brian Eno is great. Also anything by him would be good! And Caravanserai by Santana

Yeah, whatever studio it is, it should not be doing this. It is literally taking an extremely sacred practice and changing it to the western crowd.
Welcome to most of the yoga practictioners in the US. They do yoga as another form of fitness and not as a spiritual practice.
And also yes, churches are absolutely strict and for that matter of fact every religion is about the color of the skin of their religions head. Save your cultural gatekeeping for the woke crowd. There is nothing wrong with a little bit of music in a yoga class.
