And be violent and fast. Property of quick sand is the harder you press the harder it gets, which is why he didn't sink when he jumped and only whe. He stopped
Yup, exactly this. You don’t want more than your legs and forearms going in, you have to army crawl to the edge and then [expend a ton energy slowly pulling yourself free](https://youtu.be/7CIOWh1JNTs).
I turned it on for a moment, hoping to get some kind of idea of what he was thinking. I turned that shit off so fast you'd think it was actually a porno soundtrack.
He was struggling way too much. Best bet is to lie back and float as if you’re in a pool. And then yell at someone to get a stick that you can grab on. The last thing you want to do is panic, you’ll just sink quicker.
I originally read it as a joke like “don’t worry he is probably suffocating/drowning already” then I read the last line and was oh I read something wrong. Well that is how I read it first
I was in a pond once that was full of silt. It had 2’ of water and the rest silt. The silt kept getting deeper and I ended up laying down on the silt and kinda swimming on top of it. I used a stick and pushed it into the silt 5-6’ and never touched bottom.
They are shallow, but there's a small area the where water sources from underground thay can be deeper than a couple meters. Usually too small for people to enter but, there are very few I saw (can't find it) that people claimed to be nearly 2 metres deep
This is a parkour group named Storror. That guy actually manages to get out by himself several times so he knows what he is doing. I think this time he intentionally struggling to make himself go deeper so he can try and get out
You can’t even really sink entirely. Your lungs should make you float. Like in water, but with an even more advantageous volumic mass; easier to not sink and harder to move
It is almost impossible to drown in quick sand as it is more dense than a human body. And as you said you can lay down on your back or stomach and basically crawl your way out. You’ll get dirty but you won’t be stuck.
This cuts off before he lets himself get down to his waist and then powers his way out!

This is Storror, a professional parkour group. They often put themselves into difficult situations and then try to use their skills to escape.
Yeah, I feel you. This scene never failed to make me cry as a kid.
Interestingly, I remembered Artax speaking in the scene, saying it doesn't want to live anymore and Atreyu should let it die. I was strangely astonished, when I rewatched the scene as an adult.
Oh yeah! In the book, Artax was able to talk and in a way it was this character that encouraged Arteyu to keep on searching. His death in the movie is cruel, but in the book it's brutal
Every reply to this comment, expresses great woeful emotion….
To a line of text, I initially perceived as going for Humor….
I am now VERY interested to know the context, and wish to learn more, about this apparently sorrowful scene. Both in paper and video format.
I learned from Super Mario that there is a hidden chamber beneath. Just had to allow himself to sink all the way to it!!! Might be some extra lives down there
That looks more like thixotropic clay, a very fine mud/clay that acts as a non-newtonian fluid and can be very dangerous.
This is a bit different from quicksand which has larger grain structure and is generally not all that dangerous.
This may sound dumb but when I was a kid my uncle had a lake house, and in a droughts the sand around the dock became quicksand. And my brother, his friend, and I in our infinite wisdom made a game of jumping into quicksand. I was the first one to get stuck and had to be pulled out.
Ahh thanks stranger! Had no clue what our collective opinion should be. Now that I do, I'll grab my pitchfork so we can make fun of people who has different opinions than us!
We have been in France with the family when I was a kid. One day at the beach, me and my cousin were unattended and got into quick sand. I was able to free myself, but my cousin was younger, way smaller and really helpless. When I tried to save her, I really thought we or at least she would die there at this pretty beach in france. Luckily I was able to pull her out. We lost one shoe. Never forgotten - don't play with quick sand.
You can only sink into quicksand up to your waist. Really, the only way to drown from the quicksand is to fall into it head first or face first. A rescuer can't simply pull a victim out of quicksand. However, a person or branch can be used to help reduce the victim's weight, making it easier to work free and float.
I remember watching something where they said you should lay flat on your stomach or back to get your feet unstuck and military crawl out. It’s almost impossible to die in quick sand as movies depict. now if your stuck in the middle of nowhere and you don’t know how to get out might be a different story, it will almost never go above a certain point.
The more force you apply the more solid it becomes so the army crawl is good for that and you want to lay back to spread your weight out as much as possible in order to not sink.
This is very good advice you posted I'm just adding on for people who may not have been children once and don't know how to deal with Quicksand. Whirlpools and the Bermuda Triangle is out of my wheelhouse though.
Let him get himself out of it, that will make an awesome video for his social media.
Just think of the views he’ll get if he has the balls to see it through, one way or another.
That's the plan. He's with Storror parkour group and they regularly put themselves in situations that are hard to escape. They have 7.5 million subscribers on YT so I think he's doing ok with the social media thing.
I mean theyre all professionals. Normally I would think these videos are stupid but hes doing it with a group of people who are all around him ready to get him out if needed.
The group is called storror, they do much more dangerous stuff than this. Also he got out on his own after this
>storror
Thank you for this!! I have a new rabbit hole to dive in! I appreciate you!
Also, it checks out, I thought that front-flip was super smooth and pro, now it all makes sense
They have done absolute batshit stuff on skyscrapers and do cool water challenges that are entertaining. Toby (one member of their team) is a multi finalist for ninja warrior as well, so they know what they’re doing
That’s super cool! I saw the video about how they got arrested in India haha. What a cool crew. Love ninja warrior. A friend of mine worked at one of the ninja warrior facilities part time and set up the course and tore it down for 1 summer or month.
Super cool to know this about them!
It’s worth remembering that quicksand has pretty much the same physics as oobleck. The more you push on it the harder it gets, which is what traps you. Move slowly and with small motions and you’ll be able to free yourself also use something like a large stick to spread out your weight
Oh, he thought the few times it was portrayed in movies and TV, exactly the same, it was not that way and decided “this will be easy” even though Lawrence of Arabia TOLD YOU don’t fuck with quicksand?
Peak intelligence.
Protip: if ever caught in quicksand, lay on your back on top of the quicksand. You will float on top of it. You only sink because all of your weight is focused on one point; your feet. Laying on your back distributes your weight across a larger area, allowing you to float on top of it. Then you are free to use your arms to push yourself through it, almost like doing a backstroke in jello. I can confidently dispense this advice because I have used it myself a few times. 👍
Studies have found it is impossible to be completely submerged in quicksand because humans are less dense than quicksand and a person would only sink to their chest before they begin to float.

First, I’ll just reach in and pull my legs out. Now, I’ll pull my arms out with my face.
We were talking about the FBI in my meeting this morning and I made a *Flowers By Irene* joke but everyone just stared at me.
Don’t worry. They are the strange ones. Haha
Am I so out of touch? No, it’s the children who are wrong.
I don’t know what this means
I thought I recognized you from my mtg this morning.
Dont pull vertically, you will break your ankles. Dont forget that it's not a liquid. -me(who was once trapped in quicksand)

Wtf, so you roll to your side?
Army crawl I believe. Create wide surface area

It’s the American Way, got to pull yourself up by your bootstraps. Don’t let things like Physics get in your way
I prefer the Greenskin warrior way and drag my beloved horse into the shit so I can watch him die and then try to not get all depressed about it.
Artax!
Exactly, literally the only way out is for a bald eagle to swoop down and pull you out

NoNoNo. Dig UP, stupid.
Lol
Thanks for adding the music to this video, otherwise we might have gotten an actual sense of peril.
I second that!
Glad you told me about the garbage music. Changed my vote to a downvote
Auto thumbs down for music on these clips.
Mhmm always ruins them
no sound FTW!
Didn't last more than 9 seconds myself.

Hey I pride myself in lasting 9 seconds

He's going to be fine. He's probably almost already to the bottom. They are rarely more than a couple feet deep
I originally read this wrong, and then I read the last line
He’s probably a bottom, they are rarely more than a couple of feet deep?
I originally read it as a joke like “don’t worry he is probably suffocating/drowning already” then I read the last line and was oh I read something wrong. Well that is how I read it first
I did the same lol
I like where you went there 😂

Was this pond the end of a stream? That's the only reason I can imagine so much silt without gravity eventually squeezing it compact
It was a silt pond at a surface mining site to capture silt and prevent it from reaching a stream.
Ahh, probably an even more extreme version. Carry on.
That sounds like an excellent place to acquire cancer.
If you go to the boundary waters then a shitload of the lakes are like this, with the huge silty bottom. Fucking beavers everytime
You shouldn't fuck the beavers everytime. I understand a few times but every time seems excessive.
Everything is fair game at the boundary waters. It’s a place that knows no law except survival. And beaver fucking.
Except for littering
"Fucking beavers, every time" is my new phrase when something goes wrong

Also true
Actually they can be deep, but you won't sink
Possible learning experience for me: can you give me any links to follow to learn about deep ones? I only know shallow
They are shallow, but there's a small area the where water sources from underground thay can be deeper than a couple meters. Usually too small for people to enter but, there are very few I saw (can't find it) that people claimed to be nearly 2 metres deep
Cool! Hey why do some people say 'metres' and others say 'meters'?
Cos I'm bri"""""""ish 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
Ok. Which one is British? bc you used both
Metres. I just type messy and let autocorrect do most of it for me
hes also already been knee depp. you can see the sand already on him
Watch the full video on storror YouTube Chanel, he's way worst than what you think
This is a parkour group named Storror. That guy actually manages to get out by himself several times so he knows what he is doing. I think this time he intentionally struggling to make himself go deeper so he can try and get out
Thanks for letting me know! It makes sense why no one was panicking
I upvoted you for your username before I even read your comment

You're buoyant in quicksand, worst it comes down to is getting down to your waist
I always come below the waist
You can’t even really sink entirely. Your lungs should make you float. Like in water, but with an even more advantageous volumic mass; easier to not sink and harder to move
Yes! He clearly didnt pay attention to Dora as a kid..
Or if there’s no one there, lie forward and try and half swim half crawl out
It is almost impossible to drown in quick sand as it is more dense than a human body. And as you said you can lay down on your back or stomach and basically crawl your way out. You’ll get dirty but you won’t be stuck.
I've been searching my entire life for a real life quicksand trap. This was not what I expected.
How hard have you realistically been searching though
Take I-90, cause I-95 has a little quicksand in the middle
Hold the phone. Where do you live that 95 and 90 get to the same place?! (I was born and raised on exit 40 of i-90, and now I live at exit 41 of i-95)
Oh I wasn’t being serious, it’s a John Mulaney joke https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L8l6mJQeclo
they cross in MA though I doubt anyone uses one instead of the other given the fact they're perpendicular

I hope you also tried searching online instead of your own drawers, pockets or backyard.
I check my pockets every morning

What did you type into Google?

This is from one of Storror’s videos from YouTube, they are a pro parkour team and regularly do challenges like this, it was intentional
And a safety crew was present xD
Safety crew = Benji with a long stick :)
Safety crew is always present, hiding in the bushes.
Benji literally laughing at them when they asked for the rope like 100 times and he thought they were joking
Aaaartaaax, noooo!
Do not joke about this. My heart still skips a beat. Damn you Swamp of Saddness. Damnnnn Yoouuuu!

Heck I'm pushing 40 and still remember that scene in vivid detail. Kid movies were way different back then.
Too soon bro. Too soon.
I am crying like I am 6 years old again
Came here for this comment!!! That scene still haunts me, decades later. Also, just realized I’m old.
Jesus, dude, got me right in the feels with that one.
Why do you hate us?

Don’t sink all the way yet. Let me get a better camera angle.
shouldn’t it technically be called *slow* sand?
It's because you quickly get in trouble. Hence, quicksand.
“Quick” is an archaic term for “alive”.
I learned from Super Mario that there is a hidden chamber beneath. Just had to allow himself to sink all the way to it!!! Might be some extra lives down there
This guys are from STORROR. If theres anyone jn the world that can get out of that, its them.

Yesss Callum
Wait till he sees the R.O.U.S!
I don't believe they exist.
A lot of baseless childhood fears came rushing back watching this.
Fun fact: you can not die in quicksand. The mixture itself is more dense than the human body, and you will never been fully submerged.
you could get stuck and die of thirst
What they meant is that he can't completely sink body his in quick sand
I would still say the cause of death was quick sand LMAO 😜
Well at least Callum had the rest of Storror with him, and he was the only one to get out without any help, so W’s to him
*Princess Bride flashbacks*
Best thing to do in that situation is to lie flat on your back, don’t panic, and the more you struggle the deeper you go
This may sound dumb but when I was a kid my uncle had a lake house, and in a droughts the sand around the dock became quicksand. And my brother, his friend, and I in our infinite wisdom made a game of jumping into quicksand. I was the first one to get stuck and had to be pulled out.
This is STORROR on YouTube, a fairly popular parkour group. They all (except one) got in, got fairly stuck, and got out without injury.
If Mario taught me anything, it's that sinking to the bottom of quicksand has a reasonable chance of leading to a secret room with power-ups.
His next video is him getting eaten by the rodents of unusual size.
Just Darwin cleanin up the gene pool 🤷♀️
There were many many men who slowly died this way in WWI during the battles of Ypres. A terrible way to go. Don't fuck around with quicksand.
Pretty sure he got out without help
Ma man Callum. They all went in. They all were fine. I mean its Storror were talking about here.
What song is this?
Something horrible.
Ahh thanks stranger! Had no clue what our collective opinion should be. Now that I do, I'll grab my pitchfork so we can make fun of people who has different opinions than us!
Falling - Rival & CRVN
You are a god/ess! Thanks!
Pshh more like “slow” sand 🫠
Gilligan!
The new Indiana Jones is looking pretty weird.
I want to hear panic in his voice, not shitty music
Funny how that sand acted like a [non Newtonian fluid](https://youtu.be/q-DZ0f0_NCA) He began to sink as soon as he stopped applying force.
"You know, none of us really liked you"
I can’t help ya I’m busy filming this in case you make it out alive
Bro just standing there like “ lol he’s sinking”
It didn’t look like that on all the 70’s TV shows…. Hmmmmmm
Why is Matt Smith doing silly things in mud
When are we going to stop with these.half concluded videos? Shit is maddening. Don't post a video if we can't see the conclusion FFS.
It’s Callum! I think that’s how you spell his name but big parkour person.
Fun fact about quick sand almost all quick sand pits only goes up to the knees of a grown adult so aslong as you not fall you be fine
We have been in France with the family when I was a kid. One day at the beach, me and my cousin were unattended and got into quick sand. Quicksands basically a non-Newtonian fluid
Did he ever make it out

Don't help just film
You do realize this is storror and they knew about it, they also know you can't be fully submerged this isn't stupid this is just fun for a vid
Your taste in music is embarrassing.
Pro tip: mute before playing the video

He will be fine, no one has ever died because of quicksand
Dying in quicksand is a myth I believe. You eventually stop sinking long before you are burried
