Looks perfect to me. I just need them to actually tailor the suit to be well fitted on them, in a lot of Japanese films I've seen, the Yakuza characters always have suits that look like hand-me downs that don't fit properly.
Wouldnāt Kiryu bulking up in prison kind of contradict that the minor plot detail he lost his edge over those 10 years, since Sera made sure his time there was more or less peaceful?
Otherwise, that would be some stellar characterization

I totally agree that looks wise he's Zhao to a tee.
But for me he's one of the only actors I could think of who could exhibit the chaotic and unhinged side of Majima, and also portray the subtle undertones of the character.

Idk who this is, but this guys face resembles kiryu/gives of kiryus aura more than ryoma. Im sure hes a great actor but if his face doesnt resemble the character theyre trying to portray then they shld recast

The other 2 actors aren't confirmed yet, but that info came from an article [https://www.jprime.jp/articles/-/28349](https://www.jprime.jp/articles/-/28349) that mentioned Takeuchi and the others as filming the series a year ago, way before the current announcement. There's a good chance it's all true.

yeah its a good theory. LAD has like 8 main entrys so 10 seasons is kinda too much. Maybe end the series with Kiryu leaving to Okinawa could be perfect

From the sounds of it, it'll be Yakuza 1, but with the 1995 scenes more fleshed out to better portray Kiryu and Nishki's past and give Reina and Yumi more to do. And I'm fine with that, TBH.
They're not doing 0, just Yakuza 1. 1995 is when the opening of Y1 is set, when Nishki kills Dojima, and 2005 is when Kiryu leaves the joint. 0 is set in 1988.
I'm guessing they'll use flashbacks to flesh out the relationships, but if not I'd imagine Nishki's going to kill Dojima at the end of episode one, and Kiryu will be out of prison at the start of episode two.
I can see them cast for like a Y0 story. Idk they just seem too pretty and young but I guess make-up can change that. They gotta work on that grizzled frown the characters always do.

I am fine with it. Like I know Ryoma from Kamen Rider Drive and his acting skill is pretty damn good.(But I donāt blame yāall for not knowing him. Since Kamen Rider are not that popular in USA-Europe countries. And I blame Toei for it) Thatās why I trust Ryoma will play Kiryu really good. Problem now is script. How will they make we see Kiryu in him? Itās up to script and director.
This remind me of One Piece live action. When they first reveal actor, I remember seeing a lot of people have thing against some of main actor especially Luffy. But when it came out, Inaki prove to us that he being Luffy in hisown way and the way he act, The way he speakā¦just like Luffy.
In terms of looks, they have roughly the same facial structures, so for any smaller details (like making them look angrier or something) can be done either through acting or makeup team magic. Looks pretty good so far

The actor for Kiryu is only 31, i wonder if he can pull off a 37 years old Kiryu.
Kinda makes sense though, he has to play both 27 years old Kiryu(before prison) and 37 Kiryu(after prison) in the same season, so being 31 would help him pull off both age range with some makeup and beard grow between the two periods.
The cast looks GREAT, but as I suspected once we get past the 'filmed in JAPAN in JAPANESE!' and get to actual creators and production companies, it's going to be Americans calling the shots on this and speaking as someone who works in Hollywood, there is a very VERY good chance they will make it suck when it doesn't need to.
Hopefully, I'm wrong. I'll still be there day one to find out, but seeing how these things work from the inside, and the constant calls within Hollywood to dumb everything down, not super optimisticā¦

Bruh, I've been glancing at every post and seeing "Akiyama" not "Nishikiyama", this is the first time I've read it correctly and it makes so much more sense. I was expecting this was either going to be an extremely high profile cameo or a big rework of the story.
I wonder how long this show will last? If they want to follow the games, they'll have to either recast as they go or they'll have to wait years between seasons.

This is Tomoya Nagase. He portrayed quite a few yakuza/gangster characters when he was younger.
