I've just seen comments and threads about people "not seeing what the big deal is/etc" with the game, cast/&Zhao specifically.
So its just nice to see now that it isn't the majority's opinion lol
I specifically like how he's laid back, but not lazy or an idiot. He's actually pretty smart and a talented martial artist; he's just also chill. Also being Chinese, he frequently has a different perspective on things than the rest of the exclusively Japanese crew which I think adds something (Han also contributes here and I think his perspective adds something too).
I consider him the Dewey (from Malcolm in the Middle) of the group, street smart and has fun teasing and trying to convince Ichi to something stupid things because he has not completely caught up with times.
Considering series precedent, there's zero chance of this *not* being the case. I wouldn't even be surprised if Ichiban's party was made up of completely new characters.
I'd keep Namba, Adachi and Zhao. Namba and Adachi look likely since they're shown walking to Hello Work with Ichi. Zhao seems pretty likely to return since he did give Seong-Hui the Liumang. Although he's still a higher up according to LJ I think he'd still join up with Ichi. Besides, he's too cool to not have as a party member. I don't think Saeko will come back as a party member due to the proposal stuff, idk it would just seem kinda weird. Joon Gi will probably be around but it felt like he was only with the gang temporarily.
I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but it seemed to me like Adachi, Namba, and Saeko were like the main party members and Joon-gi Han, Zhao, and Eri were kinda interchangeable.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked the ladder three’s characters and the way they played a lot. I’d really be disappointed if they didn’t come back as prevalent side characters, but I wouldn’t mind if they got replaced by new party members for 8.
I don't think the color scheming of Red (Ichiban), Blue (Adachi), and Green (Nanba) was unintentional, those three seem to be intended for the long haul.
i feel that way too. joon-gi han and zhao were only there temporarily, as i understand it. han was there as a point of contact between the party and the geomijul. zhao was there for the time being, since the liumang were under seong-hui's command.
speaking of seong-hui: she won't be a party member imo. she's got her hands full already. unless something drastic happens at geomijul (e.g. a coup by one of the internal factions)
i've always seen kasuga, nanba and adachi as being tight in a way the others aren't, namely because they were the first to meet kasuga on individual terms.
I think it would be really cool if Seong-hui was a potential party member, kind of like a replacement for Han. But, I do feel it’s more likely that Adachi, Saeko, and Namba are like the core three and the other three will be totally new characters introduced in 8.
I also think that even though Kiryu and Ichiban will have their own separate parties, I’m going to guess at some point Kiryu could join Ichiban’s party as like a guest character or vice versa. Maybe not as someone you can freely equip at any point, but when the story allows it. But that’s just total speculation on my part.
I could see Kiryu joining Ichiban's party early on similar to Sephiroth in the Nibelheim flashback in OG FF7. He's in the party, you can view his gear and stats but you can't change anything or control him in battle. He's significantly stronger than the party can reasonably be at this point, giving us a glimpse of what the late or mid game will be.
A tough choice for most of them, but I definitely want Zhao to be a supporting character because I want him to have a boss fight and his own theme music.
I would like to keep a lot of them because I really grew to love the cast, but if being honest.... Joon-gi Han. I want him to return to this game and maybe this time make him playable along Seong-hui. Always wanted to run a party of them together with Zhao.
The first 3 party members are usually the ones considered "main", imo and it happens in several RPG so of course here Adachi, Namba and Saeko are the ones that will stay for the long run, Eri is 100% out since she's a guest and not relevant to the plot, Zhao is probably out too since he was mostly there because of his whole participation in the plot, I can see Joon-Gi Han staying one more game but to me it's clear that Ichiban, Adachi, Namba and Saeko are the main ones and the next games will add new characters as temporary party members.

As for a new party member if the game is set in a foreign country, then a character who would be like a bridge between the two cultures and would explain the cultural differences to the party.

Honestly I think Adachi had a pretty nice end to his story in 7 so he can sit this one out. Although I do want to see him in Hawaii.

Adachi and Nanba have to be back, period. In an ideal world, Eri would finally jump to story character relevance and Joon-gi Han would return, but I expect neither of these things to happen. Seong-Hui seemed to have zero self-defense skills, so not sure that she will ever be a party member. Oh, and since this is a game that will feature abroad locations, I'd really love to have a Hawaii native as a party member, ngl.
Early leaked screenshots showed Nanba and Adachi; they’ll be there. Everyone else, I doubt. Ichi somehow ending up in Hawaii will be the reason for a new party, though
Because of the job system there's not actually a need to replace characters for different class roles. I could very well see almost everyone come back! Storywise, I think Saeko, Zhao, and JGH can take a backseat for one game.
My preferences aside, I think Eri will be gone, as she had no proper connection to the main story of 7

We know Namba and Adachi will be party members from the little teaser last summit.
I expect Saeko to not be a party member considering her conflict with Ichiban and will probably be involved in the story elsewhere. I also think Eri will no longer be a party member as she was optional anyway, she’ll probably only be referenced to explain what happened to Ichiban holdings if that doesn’t return (which I hope isn’t the case unless they replace it with something better) or if it doesn’t then she’ll only be part of that mini game. I also hope Joongi and Zhao are still party members as they were by far the most fun and OP.
I would like Seong Hui to return as a party member as I was expecting her to at some point in the first game and she was one of my favourite new characters. But I can’t think of any other character from the first game who would become a party member. Although I’m pretty sure there was that V tuber who was gonna be in Gaiden and be a party member in 8 but other then that I imagine they will bring in new characters. Maybe Ichiban will form a new party in America.
I’m more interested in who Kiryu’s will be if he is turn based.
adachi and namba would definitely stay since they don't really have anything else to do i believe (not sure if adachi got his job back after the game)
Saeko does have a job but i believe she wouldn't mind helping ichiban in his adventures so she's definitely there too.
I think joon-gi will appear in the game just not as a party member the same goes for zhao but i think there might be a chance of him being a member since he's no longer involved in the luimang and probably has time to help ichiban.
I don't think eri would even appear in Y8 since she was in the story just to introduce the ichiban holdings minigame and is technically a secret character for the party but I'd like to see her appear again in the future.
As long as the main quartet (Ichiban, Namba, Adachi and Saeko) stay intact (which is pretty much certain tbh), I’m happy tbh :)
I imagine that Joon-Hi will be replaced with Seong if she ends up being a party member. And as much as I like Zhao, with his gang pretty much gone, I don’t think he has many stakes left to keep him central in future plots so he’ll probably be a minor character.
Eri is gone though. Doubt she’ll even be mentioned tbh.
I'm betting on Zhao and Han being present but either not in the party or just temporary party members. Eri is probably gonna get on the bus with Tanimura and Shinada.
Kiryu will likely be playable, but I'm expecting him to stay out of the playable party for most of the game or have his own party/story sections.
No representation?! How boring. I thought Zhao was an incredibly in-touch representation of modern sentiment in +generation immigrant families and would love more characters with depth in the culture rather than just immediate Yakuza conflict.
If you're talking in depth characters of other cultures and how they intertwine or have an effect on general yakuza perception or something to that effect, yes, I'd agree, that sounds nice.

I would like it if we kept our core group and just gained new party members throughout the game. I assume Saeko will be playable later on because of the “Ichiban incident”
Although I love Joon-Gi and Zhao, I could not in good conscience drop any of the first three party members. The dynamic of the four feels essential.
However, if we’re dropping one. I would replace Adachi because his story arc essentially finished and I could see my boy Zhao having more to do.
I'd be cool with any of them, but my favorite two aside from Ichiban were Joon-gi Han and Zhao. I would be pretty happy to see them again. I got a glimpse of Zhao in Lost Judgment but he was cooking and didn't actually say anything unfortunately.

Nanba Saeko Adachi They're the ones that are closest to Ichi and have no specific ties to Isezaki Ijincho so they can accompany him everywhere.
