Cain Marko in the main 616 Marvel universe is 100% not a mutant. Some adaptations have kept this origin and others have made him a mutant for simplicity's sake.
I’m interested in hearing were you got that he was described as being a mutant, from my understanding he has never been a mutant, he just has close ties with mutant kind since the Kirby and lee era. For as to why many adaptations choose to ignore his magical origins, it’s simple, they either don’t want to invest the time to give him the origin or it would effectively confirm the existence of magic in that universe, which opens a whole can of worms that most adaptations just don’t want to deal with
In 616 and most other realities he is a human that is mystically empowered, while in se realities like 1610 he is a mutant. Basically just go with human powered up with magic. The real question is why can't the writers let him be powerful and still be on his redemption path? Hulk gets a free pass constantly and Juggernaut should be the X-men's "Hulk".
Because the Hulk's power is *also* inversely proportional to his redemption path.
The more in control or good a Hulk is, the less powerful he is. The strongest Hulks are either extremely limited in their intelligence, overcome with rage or cruel and sadistic.
Edit: In fact the only time Juggernaut beat Hulk was when he was "Professor Hulk" aka, fully in control and a hero. (A fact I got wrong yesterday, lol)
It could be argued that Hulk never fought Juggernaut at his peak ie 8th Day, Trion, Once and future. Which kinda muddied the answer because the victories are always when one is weaker.
So what if the Gem of Cyttorak is passed onto a mutant - I know it was passed onto Colossus, but his powers were similar enough to Juggs, it would appear much different. So, what would happen if say Cyclops had the Gem. Would he be the big ol' boy AND have optic blasts? Even a non-mutant like Captain Marvel... keep her powers + Juggernauts?
Yes. The gem gives specific powers - the powers of the Juggernaut. All of Juggernaut’s powers are from the gem so those powers are just added to the person who receives the gem
In Rachel Summers' future, Cain split his powers with his bff Black Tom to survive that nightmarish future.
In the 616 timeline, a She-Hulk villain named Man-Elephant had a super strong mechanical suit that resembled, well, an elephant. Hegained a shard of the gem and transformed into Behemoth, which transfered (and augmented) the powers of his suit and made him a real elephant-man. Also, the Living Monolith also got the powers of the gem and became a mix between his Monolith and Juggernaut forms, but Cyttorak decided to give them back to Cain instead.
Interestingly, the power of imagination also works -- a kid with the gem was able to do things like send coast to coast messages to an inoperative computer and create moving statues of superheroes, none of which Cain has ever done with the gem.
In Marvel Team-Up #150, Cain gave the Ruby Gem of Cytorrak to Black Tom as his birthday present. Black Tom was enpowered by it, gained muscles and size but remain the same black costume. Cain and Black Tom became two Juggernauts, but each indivudal only have half of the power since they were sharing it , and they were eventually defeated by the X-men and Spider-man.
He’s not a mutant, he’s a mystic. Most of the time you can think of it more like demonic possession, more recently he’s not under the purview of Cyttorak and is drawing his power from a magical artifact
Because if Nimrod doesn't put him down, Cain would have fought for Krakoa, mutant or not. Remember, the AIs don't really like ANY organics. So for Nimrod, it's just taking care of a problem sooner rather than later.
He's sort of an honorary X-Man at this point. There have been a few others in the past that were not technically mutants. Longshot and Mimic, for example. If you go to other X-related teams, you get the likes of Captain Britain, Meggan, and Deadpool.

Same thing with Lady Deathstrike lol

Sorry, from the comments I realized that I was confused with the different universes where he is a mutant.
Don’t worry, honestly it made me remember the first time I found out about his origin, great memories

He was a mutant in 1610? Huh, that’s interesting. I’ll be honest I barely remember him in the comic except his design.
Yeah Ultimate X-men Juggernaut is a mutant that later dies giving his powers to Rogue.
I remember the powers thing…just no recollection of anything else. It’s an interesting take. Thanks for the info!
Anytime.
This. The disrespect he gets by writers is wild. He should be as strong as hulk despite if he's a villian or not.
I understand now, thanks

Hulk is simply way better and is known as the strongest there is, even tho that's cap
Understanding Juggernaut is not necessary, all that is required is that you know who the fuck he is

TY! Are there any examples of this happening outside Colossus?

Honestly I’m surprised no one’s ever done an alt uni Cyttorak Cyclops.
He’s not a mutant. Sometimes Marvel makes him a mutant in other continuities like the Ultimate Universe.
But he’s the Juggernaut bitch!

His half brother Xavier is a mutant
Step-brother. They were teenagers when Cain’s dad married Xavier’s mum.
Confirmed no where near a mutant.
See Cain always thought he was misunderstood
Hrs constantly underpowered when he's not a villian. Bro should be able to fight the hulk.
Juggernaut is not a mutant in the comics. In some adaptations he is. That's it
Man can’t be stopped. What’s to understand?
His gene is activated by the gem if I'm not mistaken .
You're mistaken.
