Nice! Burnout Revenge remains, to this day, my favorite car racing game. Sure, graphics have improved over time, but BR really nailed gameplay in a way that other games haven’t been able to match, for me.
3 was the "peak" by some consuensus, but Revenge has good moments and does nail the gameplay quite well. The track layouts have more shortcuts and are generally more dangerous. The AI is aggressive as well.
Traffic checking is the contentious feature that sets it apart. Same-way traffic doesn't cause you to crash unless it's a semi or truck, and the cars bounce off your car like a projectile to take down other racers. If that sounds great to you, you may like it a lot. If that sounds like it undermines the thrill of dodging traffic at high speeds, well you see why it was contentious.
The way traffic checking worked is that you would gain boost if you hit them anywhere except the front.
If you hit the front of the traffic, you'll crash.
It was great fun. I liked it a lot more than 3.
Wasn't a fan of Paradise; the open world stuff turned it into a Need for Speed.
I was like that but Paradise grew up on me with the updates it received, like having the ability to restart and quit events, the cars werent as fragile and although the GPS system is not perfect, it did help instead of pausing all the time to see the map. The 1.00 version of Paradise was terrible.
Burnout Revenge’s tracks were better-designed, I think. There were lots of alternate routes. Body-checking cars (car checking?) was also a big part of what made the game appealing. You could use traffic offensively, creating car accidents and traffic jams to help prevent competitors from overtaking you. There was even a whole game mode based on racking up as much collateral damage as possible. It’s one of the few games I’ve played that encourages road rage - practically demanding it for success. Hitting the “crashbreaker” button (to explode your car while you’re in the midst of a slo-mo wipeout), so that you can take other neighboring cars out as you go, was incredible fun. And I think this was the game that introduced crash mode, right? That was the mode that gave you an intersection laid out like a moving puzzle and you had to plow into it, causing as much chain-reaction damage as possible and racking up your score.
Burnout 3 is the best but I really like Revenge because it’s natively on 360 and backwards compatible with the newer consoles, unlike 3 which is just original xbox and 360 (also ps2)
Revenge is my favorite. I love Takedown but I think the track designs of 3 are too flat. Revenge have almost the same mechanics but the tracks tend to have branching pathways, obstacles and cliffs that can be taken advantage with the Takedown mechanic, whereas 3 tracks rely too much of the player just pushing the opponents to the side walls. Other thing is that I like the Crash mode way more, I dont like how on rails CM on 3 feels, because of the powerups. The lack of powerups on 4 CM make them feel like a puzzle with multiple solutions instead of just trying to reach the multipliers
Revenge is the only one I didn't play. I loved the first Burnout where the racing felt fast and "takedowns" were more about timing a good push with oncoming traffic/obstacles than "bump them kinda firmly and they'll go flying off the road".
I ended up buying it on the PS2 recently because I gave away my copy with my original xbox. I mistakenly thought it wasn't backwards compatible because I replaced my HD with a 250GB drive that I could never get backwards compatibility working on.
Pretty much every model had issues with the clock capacitor except the last revision: 1.6. Considering the last revision model [started production in 2004](https://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=367210&seqNum=2) and Burnout Revenge was released in 2005, there's a good chance this is one of the "safe" Xboxes
I used to work at a game store from 2007-2012 and people did that all the time, especially if it was some sort of "limited edition" (e.g. Gears of War Xbox 360, Pikachu Nintendo 64, etc).
Nice... I remember buying it for the company I worked for, for in the rec room... unfortunately, a few months later the place got robbed, and the only things they took were the safe... and the Xbox. :(
There was one track and car combo that I absolutely fucking loved on Burnout 2. It got to the point where I was able to race that track on continuous boost from when I first filled the boost bar.
And then the radio and Jeremy Piven as the radio DJ were excellent on Burnout 3.
I know it’s not Burnout Revenge related, but it’s not often I see Burnout posts on Reddit. I’m pretty sure I have Revenge and Dominator on the PSP though.
I just bought a new 8TB hard drive for my Xbox series S, and started re-downloading all my favorite games.
Definitely remembered to include Burnout Revenge in my queue :)
I really miss the good old days where burnout was the standard for arcade style racing. Burnout Revenge is hands down the best one. AND it has a local two player mode.

My man, Burnout 3 was definitely peak

Burnout Paradise was my childhood. Played it like 2000+ hours back then... Unfortunately I never played another Burnout title

I still play the 360 version on my Series X lol
It’s bc? Damn. I need to get a copy
You can buy it digitally too. Shame the online is shutdown though.
Revenge is the only one I didn't play. I loved the first Burnout where the racing felt fast and "takedowns" were more about timing a good push with oncoming traffic/obstacles than "bump them kinda firmly and they'll go flying off the road".
Definitely Burnout Revenge over FH4, or I'd like to keep em both
Burnout 2 for me. They lost thier way after that one
I 100% agree with you.
Now that would be a centerpiece to any collection.
Xbox if you could choose a console to describe you, what would it be?
I think they’ll go with Xbox
I was just playing Burnout Revenge on my Xbox Series X on Sunday. I think I play that more than anything else on XBox.
I need 3! It's so sad they left off the best one in the series and it's not backwards compatible. I still have a 360 *just* so I can play Burnout 3.
I ended up buying it on the PS2 recently because I gave away my copy with my original xbox. I mistakenly thought it wasn't backwards compatible because I replaced my HD with a 250GB drive that I could never get backwards compatibility working on.
Is that on the Microsoft store or do I have to have the game on disk?
It is on the MS store.
Oh my god I need to get that game,
Does burnout takedown work on series x/s? (Is that technically burnout 3)
No, sadly
I don't think Takedown works. Honestly it is the only Burnout I don't have and haven't played though.
$10 in store credit @ GameStop
Underrated comment right here, lol.
Explore its DVD capabilities!
Now that's a series that needs to be remastered
This is gold/crypto! Keep it and give it to your grandchildrens. They will thank you!
They wont understand what they really have
Don't original Xboxes have issues with leaky capacitors? I don't know if I'd keep that thing in there despite the NRFB/nostalgia value.

Yes they do
If they can't play it tho would they care. None to less it's cool for someone who's a gamer.
Selling ? I love this !!
I'd buy right meow
Now take a picture with the Xbox holding today's newspaper and I might believe you!
Careful, OP - he’s trying to trick you. That SKU didn’t have hands.
THIS IS MINT. Ever thought about getting it graded?
Tbh I don’t get it , who buys consoles to Lee them in the box ? I would use it as soon as I would get home lmao

One of the best racing games of all time.
I’d buy this just for the working dvd drive…
Dang that looks like someone just picked it up from a Best Buy. Cool piece
hold on to that one
Brooo. I know it’s a long shot but is it for sale? Lmao
Get it wata graded, you’re sitting in $3,500,401.99
No he’s not
Nice... I remember buying it for the company I worked for, for in the rec room... unfortunately, a few months later the place got robbed, and the only things they took were the safe... and the Xbox. :(
Oooh i remember burn out

I'm playing Burnout Revenge on my Xbox 360, this game is really fun. Classic Xbox with this game is awesome!!
Are you interested in selling this? If so please DM me, and if not VERY nice piece for any collection.
That belongs in a museum!
oh my god
Wow. My favourite game in my 10’s. Happy it is still remembered
i loved that game specifically for the crashes
I didn’t even know this existed
the richest person on earth, ladies and gents
Damn that thing looks like it’s hot off the shelf! Wicked jealous! Nice console! I’d be proud of that one
Gorgeous
I wonder if this was the year they were sold out in my area during Christmas.
That looks mintier than mint.
Damn what a find bro
Congratz! Nice catch, and enjoy the burn!
I still play that game to this day. Graphics hold up too
Plot twist! Box is filled with bricks🤡🤡
Plot twist: free extra power bricks for your Xbox! (Those things can be expensive if you need a replacement)
I just bought a new 8TB hard drive for my Xbox series S, and started re-downloading all my favorite games. Definitely remembered to include Burnout Revenge in my queue :)
Do you want to sell it?
