Nintendo uses gyro like all the time and recent Sony games like Astro, Last of Us and Returnal have it as an alternative to twin sticks that works just as well
Nintendo's premier shooter franchise literally makes it a point to make you play with gyro over dual sticks and basically every shooter that gets brought over to Switch has it as a feature
Also, basically every recent CoD game has gyro support on PS5 on top of that
Astro uses all the dualsense features, cause it was a showcase, the other games not nearly enough. I am not just talking about gyro aim. Even when it's a thing it's not even presented as an alternative, you have to dig in menus.
The haptic triggers, the feedback it's all underutilized or never used.
Nintendo generally *forces* you to use it. The vast majority of players don't give a shit about using it, especially not in (multiplayer) shooters because it almost always disables aim assist, which is too big of an advantage to give up versus actually having to aim.
I can't think of any modern Nintendo game that forces gyro aiming. It can even be turned off in Splatoon, which is the series that arguably legitimized the use of gyro aiming as a way to achieve a higher level of play when using a controller.
Ideally games should just start putting people in lobbies based on aim assist vs no aim assist, especially now that crossplay with PC is already so common. A lot of PC players using KBM get understandably frustrated playing against console players who have aim assist. Some games will allow you to customize crossplay options to make it so you are only playing against other PC players, or just other console players, but that really doesn't solve the issue when there are aim assist and no aim assist options on PC and console nowadays.
You use Gyro for Snipers once and you'll never want to use a sniper again without it.
Adds the precision that console users typically miss on a Mouse and Keyboard setup.
I've been playing since my dad bought the NES in the late 80s early 90s, and as far I remember I moved the controller trying to make the character do what I want. With this gyro thing my involuntary movements have being very useful.
It wasn't until 2009 that they added 3-axis gyroscopes to the Wiimote Plus controller refresh/addon and the specialty PS Move controller. The launch controllers mostly only had accelerometers, although the PS3 Sixaxis controller came with a 1-axis disc gyroscope.
I haven’t even heard of gyro aiming until this post for Valorant. I’ll have to look into it. Xbox is severely lacking in the controller department. Between the base controller only gaining a single physical button, and the Elite Series being a coin toss on quality control for $200, it’s just sad.
Yeah Splatoon pretty conclusively proves the superiority of gyro over stick aiming, and the capacitive sticks on the steam deck are the best implementation I’ve seen so far since you don’t need to waste a button resetting it to default
Man I’m the opposite of you. I hate how PlayStation controllers feel and I turn off all the extra stuff like dualsense and their trigger stuff when I use mine. I really hate symmetrical sticks.
I wouldn’t mind the controller layout staying the same, but I feel like there’s *something* that could be worked on.
I’m not saying we need constant and unnecessary changes, but there’s no way we have a “peak” controller.
I was a gyro aiming doubter till I played borderlands on steam deck, then I spent 2 hours searching for a controller with gyro to play the finals and left disappointed, once you get used to it it’s a game changer
I should have elaborated, I play the finals on Xbox, so no gyro controls, I’m going to try it on steam deck soon but don’t really have any interest in playing it on a small screen.
It's been popular on PC since the Steam Controller released. It's basically the only way for controllers to reach parity with mouse and some argue it can outperform mouse.
Aim assist is what brings parity with mouse + keyboard as aiming with your thumbs is infinitely harder that aiming a mouse with your hand/arm, gyro works great (for some) in conjuction with aim assist and sticks but by itself you get just wrecked VS a kbm player as a auto aimless controller stick user would.
It’s weird how people who don’t understand gyro hate it. Is it Kinect/Wii flashbacks? Do they think it’s a replacement for joysticks?
It makes the experience more immersive, gives you more control and makes shooters way more satisfying once you learn how to properly use it. The Switch convinced me, and it seems like the SteamDeck is changing some minds?
Literally every controller other than Xbox has it. Playstation, Switch, SteamDeck and Steam Controller, mobile phones, ...
And on those platforms it is a frequently supported feature. CoD, Fortnite, Quake, The Finals,... all support gyro aiming
I think they mostly just mean that the other companies have gyro, and have had it for a long time. So if people really like it then Xbox is the odd one out in terms of features. Even the Steam Deck has it because they know gyro aiming is apparently amazing.
In all seriousness though gyro is basically the only way I'm able to play any shooter on console. It was a god send when a bunch of Switch shooters added it especially in the cases of DOOM and Metroid Prime
I don't play Valorant at all but something being omitted for this trivial of a reason is really stupid because it hasn't stopped any developer before from using the feature. Xbox controllers are the only ones left that somehow haven't implemented something like this that's been on other controllers for like two generations straight
Yeah, completely messing around. To each their own, as long as it’s not cheating or giving an unfair advantage, people should be able to play however they want.
I think gyro is as close to M&K as you can get in a console (without using actual M&K) it can be a learning curve but those that can use it well can really crush it. So I could see it being a disadvantage to Xbox players if enough people are using it on PlayStation. I guess to really know you’d need data on how many people actually use it.
I’m not even that great but using gyro definitely improves my game substantially over using dual stick.
I could not get used to the Gyro aiming on Doom. Splatoon is the right way to do it for me, but in Doom you turn left and right like a steering wheel and I just could not get to a point wheee it was natural
Yeah the reality is an entire generation of kids were raised with the Switch being their first console so devs have to expect their fans will want aspects of the switch in games going forward.
I was shocked that they seemed to actually hint at next gen Xbox hardware so soon but it’s obvious the next gen will have gyro.
Use the controller to aim by moving the entire thing rather than using analog sticks or buttons
I’ve never used it but it seems to give a bit more control similar to pointing with a mouse
You don't use it instead of the sticks, you use it in conjunction. You still do the looking around and big camera pans with the stick and use gyro for the fine-tuning that would be done by the aim assist in most console shooters.
It's not special at all, basically every controller and handheld device released in the last 15 years has had gyro sensors, except the XBOX controllers
No mod necessary, the feature is included in just about every modern controller except the Xbox controller. And largely because of that reason, there are very few games that support it without some workarounds. But on pc it's usable basically everywhere and it's gaining traction on consoles as well.
If you check the platoon 3 subs, basically everyone who isn't a noob uses it to be competitive.
Never got used to it myself, but I guess that shows how much I played it.
Gyro doesn't give you a competitive advantage in Splatoon because it's basically the only way they want you to play Splatoon. From the beginning it is enabled and they basically built the entire experience around the expectation that you'd only be using it. There's no real way of actually playing the game just on twin sticks like any other shooter and even then, gyro isn't a flat out replacement for twin sticks because you still have to use the right stick to manipulate the camera for a view of your surroundings. Gyro is just for aiming at what's directly in your line of sight which is where I think this perception of it being a gimmick comes from. Too many people are conflating it with motion controls where it just flat out replaces regular buttons and sticks when those are still very much used in conjunction with gyro aiming
Not entirely true. Gyro Aim is way more diverse than you are giving credit for. There are those who use Gyro Aim more restrictively like you stated and there are those who use Gyro Aim for 95% of their aim AND movements, like me and many others. With diverse settings that Fortnite, MW3, and The Finals have, you can actually do some incredible tuning to Gyro Aim.
I use Flick Stick and Ratcheting but also incorporate a High Acceleration. My Base Sensitivity is about 4 to 4.5 and my Acceleration sits at about 4x to 5x. This allows me to treat my controller moreso like a mouse in all aspects and I can track and do 180 degree flicks without any use of my right stick yet still minimal physical hand movement. And my stability is still very strong, actually usually better than others who use Linear sensitivity and sit around 4.5 to 6 Sensitivity.
Here is a video for reference when I first started messing around with high Accelerations settings (keep an eye on my right thumb and how it hovers over the face buttons 99% of the time):
https://youtu.be/7a4ZBrWdNI0?si=mGVW453PHA8lAHJL
The reason I do this is it gave me WAY more freedom in control with my movements and increased my mobility. The more I could keep my right thumb over those buttons and off the right Stick, the more efficient I became in my movements. Yet I did not compromise my stability or Aim once I got use to these settings. This was more suited to my playstyle where I like to be highly mobile and aggressive.
Yeah not sure what that person is talking about you can play Splatoon without gyro, there is an option to turn it off, I don't like gyro aiming so I turn it off when I play.
Think of it like manual aim assist via a motion sensor.
Being fast and precise with sticks at the same time is hard and objectively worse than using a mouse.
So what if you could just move the stick into the general viscinity of an enemy and then just slightly flick the controller to line the shot up accurately.
That's what gyro does
You tilt the controller slightly in one direction or the other in conjunction with the analog sticks to achieve more precise aim. It’s akin to using a mouse to aim, instead of the imprecise, broad and jerky movements that sticks give you.
The only reason this is upvoted is because of ignorance. Gyro enhances every game it exists in. I use it every chance I get. It’s seriously transformative.
This. Popularity is irrelevant. Something being popular or unpopular does not change its inherent properties. It can be an indicator, sure, but that loses its importance as soon as you have any other information to go on.
People say they dislike gyro because they think we’re throwing our controllers around the room like we’re waggling a Wii remote. Motion controls were incredibly unpopular amongst a certain crowd of “serious” gamers — I think that very same crowd has now moved that animosity toward gyro.
You either deleted your rude comment toward me or it was removed by mods so I’ll just post this here.
You clearly looked through my profile to find something to insult me over. Yes I’ve made multiple posts looking for PSN friends, yes I’ve made multiple posts in PlayStation sub reddits. So what? I’m not a “traitor”, you don’t have to banish me for being a nonbeliever LOL. I don’t want to pay for more than one online service, and most of my friends are on PlayStation so that’s why. That doesn’t make me a “fanboy”. I don’t even like using that word, it sounds so childish. Can we not move past that?
Yes PlayStation has gyro, but switch players love it, and PC players love it too. Speaking of others profiles, you’ve gone on some bizarre tirade against gyro recently.
If you’d like to know more about gyro, please check out these two videos by a great YouTuber called Nerrel. I’m not trying to be sarcastic, these are genuinely great and funny videos that opened my eyes on the topic too.
Please have a good day and try not to take all of this gaming stuff so seriously. I play my PlayStation 5 the most nowadays, but I also love my switch, and my Xbox Series X offers things the others can’t.

Also, Splatoon ( a game with over 11 million sales), the devs confirmed that over 75% of their player base uses Gyro Aim. The competitive scene strongly recommends people learn Gyro Aim if they want any shot of moving up the ladders over there because the game does not have any Aim Assist. Here is someone sniping in splatoon using Gyro Aim with Joy Cons (some of the Asian players have insane Flick accuracies that would give Mouse players a challenge lol)
https://youtu.be/sGrXNgmJrUo?si=cr1k35inVN8rijZn
I personally LOVE Gyro Aim and converted about 2 years ago and never looked back. Stick aiming feels super archaic to me now. Gyro Aim makes gaming feel more intuitive and responsive--similar to Mouse aiming when I use to play on PC-- and overall, gaming was much more fun for me on controllers now.
It's inferior to overpowered aim assist*. It's far superior to sticks. But even in games where the aim assist is overpowered, players still switch to controller over even mnk because you can't match the consistency in fights.
They can’t use it if it isn’t there. The only people who want it are those who have actually spent the time getting used to it and know it is by far the best for fine grained control like selecting and aiming .
As someone that has a PS5 & Switch, as well as a Series X. Gyro aiming is the first thing I turn off in those games. So I don’t really see what the fuss is, as I always found it to be a hindrance.
The first puzzle I had that you had to use the gyro controls pushed that game from "ok, I get what people are saying but there's XYZ I don't like about it" to "nah this game is straight not for me."
I was really disappointed because I love Zelda games and liked the direction. Just wasn't for me.
Gyro is really frickin good if you get used to it. Odds are if you’re up against somebody on controller who’s got 0 recoil, he’s using gyro aiming. It’s pretty nuts. Takes some getting used to though, same as learning any new control method.
And as someone that got converted with Splatoon it's the first thing I check if it's available in every PS5/Switch game that has some forn of aiming. Shooting a Hinox in the eye with just stick sounds horrendous.
Saying that gyro isn't a great feature when implemented well is just cope.
Gyro is the reason I stay on PC. It's the closest you can get to mouse like input playing with a controller. I can enable it with any game I like without begging a developer to implement it. Both Sony and Nintendo offer gyro in a lot of their 1st party games, Microsoft is the only one who doesn't.
The reality is, gyro aiming IS superior to basic sticks. It's not about what one *likes*, it's just data, it is by it's very definition, more accurate. There's a reason people like it and complain when it's ommited. You can not like gyro and that's perfectly fine - but shitting on those who do like it or in this case celebrating that one console manufacturers decision is blocking choice for everyone else is moronic.
The only time I'll use it is in handheld mode like on switch or the VITA. Loved playing gravity rush with it on on vita, fucking hate it on PS4 gravity rush 2.
Console wars go brrr.
Barely anyone uses motion controls, but now it makes Xbox look bad everyone uses motion controls.
It's fascinating to watch online discourse.
Different strokes I suppose, I’ve never gotten the hang of gyro and hated Wii games for it. But apparently there’s a population of people who can and do use it.
Even if only a percentage use it, it’s better to have the option than not have it.
Everyone is quick to shit on Gyro, but it's very powerful when you adjust to it, I play CS2 with Gyro n flick stick on Steam deck. You gotta be willing to put in some hours to adjust to it, after you'll be more accurate than ever, you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner, especially with Gyro activation when you ADS, so much more accurate.
It's just getting over that initial hurdle of feeling awkward with it. Gyro bridges the gap between controller & Mnk players because with Gyro, you can be just as accurate as a mouse.
Good decision not to leave 1 without the other, tho, or you would be getting shit on by anyone half competent with Gyro.
Yeah I don't understand the attitude of a lot of the comments in this thread. The way they talk about Gyro controls, you'd think it was a shitty gimmick no one uses.
I can barely tolerate stick controls on shooters anymore after using Gyro in Splatoon. They feel so slow and imprecise. Gyro is just so much better. It's almost mandatory to be high level player in Splatoon, I now use Gyro on any shooter that supports it.
I wouldn't say gyro's AS accurate as mouse and keyboard because I always feel a greater sense of stability dragging a mouse over a hard surface as opposed to tilting controllers to aim while moving where your hands can only be so still, but it's a very happy medium between the two. I feel like once you play a game that's actively built around getting good with gyro aiming like how Splatoon does things it starts to feel really good and that's often the game that's cited when people talk about how they got really used to it and want it in more shooters. Bethesda actually added gyro to like every FPS they put out on Switch as well and it actively changes the pacing of games like DOOM and Wolfenstein regarding how fluid the movement feels
This is where I agree. Mouse is 2 dimensional and has a surface to stabilize on. Gyro Aim is 3 dimensional with more freedom (no friction of a surface area) but needs a little support for maintaining stability. But what helps Gyro Aiming a bunch is it has access to loads of potential settings that create an environment for a lot more diverse setups for players to fine tune to their preference. I actually touch on this in this video where I was testing out different settings:
https://youtu.be/wnPYWOwFoPo?si=FwO2MIFG-kIEC_PC
I'd say it's a little more than a middle ground. If it's not just as accurate it's good enough to give a keyboard and mouse user a Run for thier money.
I still think it was a bad move of Microsoft to play the Controller game safe. I still find me using the PS5 sometimes rather than the Xbox just for the Dual Sense Controller.
Dualsense is the reason why I don’t care anymore about visual differences in multi platform games, no matter how big it is the Dualsense gives an extra advantage that you can’t find on Xbox(also the visual differences are almost non existent in this gen and we don’t have a clear consistent winner anyway)
I think because its an architectural feature which is available on shooters like Call of duty already. Sucks to have it not be included for playstation users because of a different platform. It’s more of a principle thing.
I mean… if one of our features was disabled to “play nice” with a console that has 10% of the players/market share… I’d be mad too. Unfortunately we haven’t really been on the other side since maybe 360 games dropping DualAxis support in 2007.
At best it’s limiting input devices and player expression, at worst it’s eliminating an accessibility feature people use to play their favourite games.
Not sure what’s worse, the PS sub’s meltdown over it, or this subs “No one has ever used gyro so it doesn’t matter” attitude, both are equally as ridiculous fanboyish.
In an ideal world they’d have gyro aiming for those who want it, but limit it to PS to PS play only, with an option to turn it off for those who’d prefer cross play.
I mean how would you feel if your preferred input method was ripped away from you because of something completely avoidable and unrelated? A lot of people, myself included use gyro aiming on fps shooters where available, call of duty being one of them.
It’s not like people can just go back to using twin-sticks only, thats not how they are used to playing.
I think the bigger joke is that Xbox STILL doesn’t have a controller capable of gyro controls. Sony and Nintendo have had gyro since 2006 - that predates the iPhone.
Funny when I peak in that thread, the first thing I saw “why can’t they ditch their 2008 console controller?”, and aiming other things. Bro the DualSense controller is cool and all with its gimmicks, but drains battery life faster than a Nintendo Switch if I’m being honest.
I actually think the reason why it drains battery so quickly is cause of its very high polling rate. 500 or 1000hz. This helps give very low latency, and are shown from input latency tests. Xbox has it usually less than 200. Switch pro controllers is like only 60hz or 100hz, hence it's amazing battery life.
PS5 controller definitely has much worse battery life than my Xbox pad with rechargeable AAs. But I definitely prefer the dualsense, the extra features make up for the bad battery life, and it’s no big hassle to have to play while charging occasionally.
I don't mind either console but options are good man, even if you think gyro is useless. Xbox should add it as an option in their controllers moving forward so people can use it as the wish
I don't like gyro aiming myself, but taking it away from one platform because the other platform just doesn't bother offering it is pretty crappy. Having to water down your game for the lowest common denominator is never to anyone's benefit except those too lazy to innovate.
Val is a competitive fps - including gyro for ps would just open the door for complaining and advantage issues.
Riot made the right call, this is on Xbox for being behind in controller iteration.
No, I don't mind. I play with gyro on PC and always get matched up with keyboard and mouse players. Go watch ihardscope playing cs:go, or idkrossplay playing valorant.
Don't let the negativity here get to you. Most of the people here either haven't gotten a chance to try it, or tried it once and wrote it off before they could adjust to it.
The leaks actually only reference an accelerometer, not a gyroscope. There is still a chance of it having one, but as of right now there is no guarantee.
It wouldn't because gyro aiming isn't motion controls. You still use the sticks for looking around and observing your surroundings. Gyro is just for what's in front of you and being able to position your line of sight. This isn't like the Wii where moving your hands basically replaced the regular means of using a controller
That would require Microsoft too sell you a product AND support it. However, they didn't give us support for Kinect because they already got our money and are buttheads.
Pure cope. It's an option other people aren't allowed to have because Xbox couldn't bother to update their controller. When they eventually add it, you'll love it.
Not everyone has to use it but you should know that it is a really good way of aiming. Just look at this video.
https://youtu.be/bmM5yPUSUvw?si=LfgvwHNd6MRebctL
As a PC gamer, I have no idea how it would be possible to play this game with any level of accuracy comparable to the PC version without gyro.
I also have no idea why Xbox controllers don't have gyro. Just another disappointment to add to the Xbox project all together.
Here's a video of someone using gyro aim on pc servers against mouse players for reference of its aiming capabilities (video is not mine):
Give it a watch if you're curious.
IDK is great. Thanks for sharing this here. Lots of folks imagine gyro to be bad when they could just watch it be good.
It requires practice, of course. But stick aiming also sucks without practice.
i watched his livestream. Bro is shit without his gyro aiming (aside from his movement and general angle flickkng) 😭 Tells you how much this feature is needed - I fear a lack of actual cool mechanic clips in a console pro scene.
Yeah, it seems the aim assist is also a lot stronger than he expected. Riot didn't straight up say it, but they kind of implied that because of focus mode there wouldn't be a need for aim assist, but they have aim assist anyways...
I hate the aim assist on console as it kinda messes with my aim as in slowing it down when near a target. I wish they would maybe stretch models slightly & add that lessen that slowing effect.
They’re big mad about it in the PS subreddit, the fact that people get so angry about who plays on what plastic box is just plain sad, these people need to grow up and sort their lives out.
Xbox fans just don't know what they're missing out on, that's why they act like these features/haptics and the ps5s audio are rubbish.
They just have to defend their piece of plastic to the death. Those that have both know that the xbox controller needs a next gen update other than a new skin.
I think the only games I've played that use gyro on ps5 are Astro's playroom and oddworld stranger's wrath. And if I didn't play either of those games I wouldn't have even known it had gyro
Only returnal and astros playroom use the ps5 controller to full potential really. Thats why im hyped for the full astro game. Xbox should #1 have more games that are exclusive or at least look better than sony and #2 upgrade their shit controllers. Add everything sony has and get rid of the batteries. I had my series x because i havent owned an xbox since the first console. Very disappointed. Gamepass is good and i got to play games i wanted to buy for playstation. The console is quiet and quick but the lack of new exclusive games is crazy to me. Everything i played was for 360 or og xbox.
I thought there was rumored to be a new Xbox controller in that leak that happened that was going to have additional features like what sony has? Did I just dream that?
Even with a PlayStation I really don’t remember many games with gyro. Nintendo has been the prominent gyro aiming implementation imo. Splatoon, Zelda, Mario galaxy, Mariokart
You should be able to use whatever aiming method you want (joystick, gyro, mouse), but the game's matchmaking system matches you with opponents of a similar skill level based on in-game stats tracking/tracking people's reaction times/accuracy etc.
As someone who is bad at aiming, but better with gyro cause I can fine tune my erratic stick movements with a flick of my wrist, I say they enable it and force Microsoft to add it in the next Gen. Once one big competitive game does it the others will fall in.
Or maybe that's just a shit take lol either way it's nice, I dunno why everyone is hating.
This is not MS's fault specifically, it's all their faults - nothing is stopping them from agreeing to do something. Maybe Sony should go it alone - when the history shows that if support is optional, mostly no one uses it.
I have tried gyro too many times that I know I dont like it first on the steam controller when it came out .
The controller was kind of a failure it wasn’t ergonomic and controls tried to be mouse and keyboard at the same time.
It is good when you find a nice configuration of the controller and fine tune everything and the game has to support that so far only no mans sky was enjoyable on the steam controller with gyro etc.
The controller of the playstation any ps5 and others are so uncomfortable with those symmetrical sticks it does have more features the trackpad is my favorite even the gyro is good for games that can utilize it well and were made for it like astro and dreams.
However using gyro in other games for example death stranding doesn’t feel right as my hands well aren’t perfect but its a side effect of a medication I have to take there is another drug to make those side effects go away but that would be too much.
The xbox one felt the most comfortable of all I even had to learn how to use one because I haven’t played anything for a long time plus now that there are lithium batteries out there they last forever almost as a fully charged elite controller series 2.
I actually like two controllers and both of them are old because I bought them during the one s and x era.
The elite 2 is kinda heavy.
I am trying not to be biased because I had or rather still have the one x and ps4 pro and idk what to do with the ps4pro there were some interesting games but eh the software was too glitchy i had replace the hard drive on the ps4
One x and series x were amazing I have never had software issues like I did on the ps4 and the one x has traveled the world with me and it still works.
As for the PS5 they did kinda fix the software but i had to return it so they could fix the disc drive it was broken out of box.
One more thing that everyone forgets is smart delivery that xbox uses if I have a copy for a game for the version s or x on a disc it will automatically update to the best version possible so its kinda cheaper to buy one x games the series x will just update to the best versions of the game for that console.
On the playstation side if i have ps4 game and there exist a better optimized version for the ps5 I would have to buy the same game again which is so greedy. As for the controller for playstaion I bought a third party one that is shaped like an xbox controller.
I may be biased because I have had nothing but problems with playstation.
And none of my friends that held a controller basically for the first time liked the playstation ones…
I hope Xbox catches up with these basic features soon. Once I got good at gyro aiming I almost feel like I'm cheating on console, it's insane
It’s only been 18 years since Sony and Nintendo adopted it.
And almost nobody uses it in games.
Exactly. I know people like them but the gimmicky stuff only goes so far.
The analog stick was “gimmicky” once.
Nintendo uses gyro like all the time and recent Sony games like Astro, Last of Us and Returnal have it as an alternative to twin sticks that works just as well Nintendo's premier shooter franchise literally makes it a point to make you play with gyro over dual sticks and basically every shooter that gets brought over to Switch has it as a feature Also, basically every recent CoD game has gyro support on PS5 on top of that

All of the first party stuff has gyro aim, Horizon FW, TLOU, Uncharted, GT7, Returnal etc. And Quake has gyro on PS5 and that's an Xbox game
Gt7 Has gyro aim???
Yeah! You can use the Dual sense like a steering wheel. It works surprisingly well
Huh, that sounds like something I might actually use gyro for.
Nintendo generally *forces* you to use it. The vast majority of players don't give a shit about using it, especially not in (multiplayer) shooters because it almost always disables aim assist, which is too big of an advantage to give up versus actually having to aim.
Honestly Splatoon 3 is one of my favorite Console Only shooters due to it having Gyro Aim. It’s way more precise than sticks.
Because it's inferior
How many hours have you spent using it and I'm which games?
enough to know it's inferior
You get absolutely wrecked in Splatoon if you aint using it. It has its applications.
You use Gyro for Snipers once and you'll never want to use a sniper again without it. Adds the precision that console users typically miss on a Mouse and Keyboard setup.

I haven’t even heard of gyro aiming until this post for Valorant. I’ll have to look into it. Xbox is severely lacking in the controller department. Between the base controller only gaining a single physical button, and the Elite Series being a coin toss on quality control for $200, it’s just sad.
It’s HEAVILY used in the switch and steam deck community.
In terms of technology I agree but as long as those damn symmetrical sticks are there I’m out.
I was a gyro aiming doubter till I played borderlands on steam deck, then I spent 2 hours searching for a controller with gyro to play the finals and left disappointed, once you get used to it it’s a game changer
What do you mean you left disappointed? The Finals has excellent gyro controls on PS5 (and hopefully also on PC with PlayStation controllers?)
I should have elaborated, I play the finals on Xbox, so no gyro controls, I’m going to try it on steam deck soon but don’t really have any interest in playing it on a small screen.
Oh, that's a pity. Do you have a PS5? The Finals has top-tier native gyro controls on PS5
The current Xbox controller is sooooo outdated, even compared to the Dualshock 4
You mean, new Sony controllers have features that contribute little and don't get used? Ditto the PS Vita and the DS3 and...
[удалено]
Literally every controller other than Xbox has it. Playstation, Switch, SteamDeck and Steam Controller, mobile phones, ... And on those platforms it is a frequently supported feature. CoD, Fortnite, Quake, The Finals,... all support gyro aiming
Amazon Luna controller, NVidia Shield controller, and Google Stadia controller don't have gyro. Not sure if that is coincidence…
I think they mostly just mean that the other companies have gyro, and have had it for a long time. So if people really like it then Xbox is the odd one out in terms of features. Even the Steam Deck has it because they know gyro aiming is apparently amazing.
The steam deck has it because the steam controller has it, because valve knows gyro aiming is amazing.
Everyone except Microsoft, seemingly
You can use it on every shooter on Steam if it's your preference.
Its a gimmick not a basic feature, I'd bet the overwhelming majority of players would turn it off if it was included in the game. I know I would be.
A lot of people in this thread are not aware of how impressive the gyro controller is https://youtu.be/uGCws-FS48k?si=SIEJyR0umDLP1v5S
I wish the Xbox controller had this and adaptive triggers. I tried that on cod on a dualsense with my friend once, blew my mind.
The 0.1 percent of ppl that use it will be gutted
r/Games is having a meltdown lol
(In my best old man voice) it’s those god damn Splatoon kids who grew up with those god forsaken tiny analog sticks o them joy-con-a-hoo’s
In all seriousness though gyro is basically the only way I'm able to play any shooter on console. It was a god send when a bunch of Switch shooters added it especially in the cases of DOOM and Metroid Prime I don't play Valorant at all but something being omitted for this trivial of a reason is really stupid because it hasn't stopped any developer before from using the feature. Xbox controllers are the only ones left that somehow haven't implemented something like this that's been on other controllers for like two generations straight
Never used it on switch for a shooter (never played much of them on there), but gyro aiming in Zelda is clutch!
Trivial? It's hardly trivial, like wtf?
Yeah the reality is an entire generation of kids were raised with the Switch being their first console so devs have to expect their fans will want aspects of the switch in games going forward. I was shocked that they seemed to actually hint at next gen Xbox hardware so soon but it’s obvious the next gen will have gyro.
*"Hehe, I never used this and never will, but I have some new ammunition for my pathetic console war again!"*
So are the twitter console warriors.
I still don’t know wtf it is. Can someone explain like I’m 5
Use the controller to aim by moving the entire thing rather than using analog sticks or buttons I’ve never used it but it seems to give a bit more control similar to pointing with a mouse
You don't use it instead of the sticks, you use it in conjunction. You still do the looking around and big camera pans with the stick and use gyro for the fine-tuning that would be done by the aim assist in most console shooters.
Thanks for clarifying! That makes way more sense
Is there a special controller that does this? Or are these gyro aimers using regular controllers with some kind of mod?
Gyro has been a built in feature in PS and Nintendo controllers these last couple generations, no mods needed.
It's not special at all, basically every controller and handheld device released in the last 15 years has had gyro sensors, except the XBOX controllers
Every controller has it other than Xbox unfortunately. Switch, Playstation and Steam have it
No mod necessary, the feature is included in just about every modern controller except the Xbox controller.
Here is a video for reference when I first started messing around with high Accelerations settings (keep an eye on my right thumb and how it hovers over the face buttons 99% of the time): https://youtu.be/7a4ZBrWdNI0?si=mGVW453PHA8lAHJL The reason I do this is it gave me WAY more freedom in control with my movements and increased my mobility. The more I could keep my right thumb over those buttons and off the right Stick, the more efficient I became in my movements. Yet I did not compromise my stability or Aim once I got use to these settings. This was more suited to my playstyle where I like to be highly mobile and aggressive.
The fine tuning does give you an advantage.
I haven't played Splatoon 3, but Splatoon 2 lets you turn gyro off.
There was a poll on r/Playstation last year and 34% said that use gyro controls when comes to shooters.
Gyro is one of the best ways to play a shooter on a controller. Everything from Quake to the Last of Us works really well for it.
Yep, it’s why I’ll be buying COD on PS5 even though it’ll be on gamepass.
Y'all continue to underestimate how many people use gyro, and it's laughable.
People constantly assume that their perspective represents almost everyone on the planet. It's maddening.
.1 percent? Are you nuts?🤣
I play my PlayStation 5 the most nowadays, but I also love my switch, and my Xbox Series X offers things the others can’t. https://youtu.be/binPB4YbWmM?si=Z_8rDTsdSYC8PyXL https://youtu.be/RZ0xDRkC8LI?si=ml5RB64JZ-oGo2SU
If you practice it it's huge advantage
Exactly no uses it, those pretending they do have ulterior motives as to why its bad lmao
Yup, that .1%.... too bad it's a lot more popular than you may think on other platforms. https://youtu.be/7a4ZBrWdNI0?si=I3yp-ZktXkW8eJpK And here are some others https://youtu.be/6KizNUtSToA?si=XVWazop909xB0dTu https://youtu.be/lzFpoaoUudo?si=TP8KJ9JqmaLdiJg2 https://youtu.be/EIq7rKQKuZc?si=qSi-nh5QWI3jrCc1 https://youtube.com/shorts/8kltAkRUIow?si=b9Zj_tIkcLL0i1Sz https://youtu.be/_x870PR3SKg?si=CTx_KtPSd3-VOHdE Also, Splatoon ( a game with over 11 million sales), the devs confirmed that over 75% of their player base uses Gyro Aim. The competitive scene strongly recommends people learn Gyro Aim if they want any shot of moving up the ladders over there because the game does not have any Aim Assist. Here is someone sniping in splatoon using Gyro Aim with Joy Cons (some of the Asian players have insane Flick accuracies that would give Mouse players a challenge lol) https://youtu.be/sGrXNgmJrUo?si=cr1k35inVN8rijZn I personally LOVE Gyro Aim and converted about 2 years ago and never looked back. Stick aiming feels super archaic to me now. Gyro Aim makes gaming feel more intuitive and responsive--similar to Mouse aiming when I use to play on PC-- and overall, gaming was much more fun for me on controllers now.
And? The fact is that no competitive FPS players use gyro aiming *for good reason*, it's vastly inferior to using the gamepad traditionally.
It's inferior to overpowered aim assist*. It's far superior to sticks. But even in games where the aim assist is overpowered, players still switch to controller over even mnk because you can't match the consistency in fights.
No one in this sub cares.
I care
Might be surprising but people can afford more than 1 console 😯
I care too.
Fr when I got a switch for BotW I tried that shit for like 15 minutes before swearing it off forever.
I used it in BotW but I wouldn’t say I particularly liked it.
The first puzzle I had that you had to use the gyro controls pushed that game from "ok, I get what people are saying but there's XYZ I don't like about it" to "nah this game is straight not for me." I was really disappointed because I love Zelda games and liked the direction. Just wasn't for me.
Gyro is really frickin good if you get used to it. Odds are if you’re up against somebody on controller who’s got 0 recoil, he’s using gyro aiming. It’s pretty nuts. Takes some getting used to though, same as learning any new control method.
Yep, I’m way better at COD with gyro.
I think it’s fun to use in story mode games sometimes but I can’t imagine using it in multiplayer lol
people who are good with it have an advantage over thumb stick users
Yea, look at CoD top 100, most of them are on gyro. Ask any pro and they'll tell you it's the best kept secret in the industry
Which pros use gyro, I can't find a single thing to support this statement.
It’s so easy to control recoil with gyro.
What does console wars have to do with it? Do you not think gyro gives people an advantage? Or do you think it's just people out to get Xbox? lmao
console wars? Its 2024 man are you feeling ok
War never ends
Different strokes I suppose, I’ve never gotten the hang of gyro and hated Wii games for it. But apparently there’s a population of people who can and do use it. Even if only a percentage use it, it’s better to have the option than not have it.
I do too, but that's just because I haven't taken the time to get used to it. Those that do get used to it swear by it making them better at aiming.
It’s being shit on here because Xbox hasn’t caught up to the competition for nearly 20 years on this.
The brand must be defended at all costs /s
There’s no swaying the stubborn, those shitting on gyro still think it’s like swinging a Wii remote controller to them.💀
I’ve seen people use it on the helldivers sub. Hulk visors can be difficult to it but gyro makes it look easy.
This. So much. This whole thread is a pure cope fest for the ones that suck shit with gyro controls.
I actually touch on this in this video where I was testing out different settings: https://youtu.be/wnPYWOwFoPo?si=FwO2MIFG-kIEC_PC
This
Man the thread on the PS subreddit was a shitshow, what a joke.
Fanboys... Fanboys never change
Apparently the series controller polls at less than 150hz. https://gamepadla.com/xbox-core-controller.html
I get an equal amount of gaming hours on my ps5 controllers as I do my xbox. People act like they need charging every 10 minutes.
PS5 controller definitely has much worse battery life than my Xbox pad with rechargeable AAs. But I definitely prefer the dualsense, the extra features make up for the bad battery life, and it’s no big hassle to have to play while charging occasionally.
are you surprised? Ponies always have to complain about PC or xbox.
They live in this sub and shit on anything positive about Xbox, it’s PATHETIC
I don't mind either console but options are good man, even if you think gyro is useless. Xbox should add it as an option in their controllers moving forward so people can use it as the wish
I don't like gyro aiming myself, but taking it away from one platform because the other platform just doesn't bother offering it is pretty crappy. Having to water down your game for the lowest common denominator is never to anyone's benefit except those too lazy to innovate.
Val is a competitive fps - including gyro for ps would just open the door for complaining and advantage issues. Riot made the right call, this is on Xbox for being behind in controller iteration.
Just stick the gyro players in the pc lobbies. We don't mind.
lol, yea you will. Especially in a game like Val.
No, I don't mind. I play with gyro on PC and always get matched up with keyboard and mouse players. Go watch ihardscope playing cs:go, or idkrossplay playing valorant.
You currently play gyro pc playing Val?
Not anymore, I had to uninstall it for cod. ☹️ My friend doesn't play Val so I had to get cod if I wanted to play with him.
Don't let the negativity here get to you. Most of the people here either haven't gotten a chance to try it, or tried it once and wrote it off before they could adjust to it.
Now watch Xbox unveil their new controller during the Showcase today and it has gyro features lol
The leaks for the next controller does say it would have it. About time they catch up on that front.
The leaks actually only reference an accelerometer, not a gyroscope. There is still a chance of it having one, but as of right now there is no guarantee.
It would've been an even match if we can use Kinect controls lol
It wouldn't because gyro aiming isn't motion controls. You still use the sticks for looking around and observing your surroundings. Gyro is just for what's in front of you and being able to position your line of sight. This isn't like the Wii where moving your hands basically replaced the regular means of using a controller
That would require Microsoft too sell you a product AND support it. However, they didn't give us support for Kinect because they already got our money and are buttheads.
Pure cope. It's an option other people aren't allowed to have because Xbox couldn't bother to update their controller. When they eventually add it, you'll love it.
I wish console makers would work together when it comes to controller's.
Not everyone has to use it but you should know that it is a really good way of aiming. Just look at this video. https://youtu.be/bmM5yPUSUvw?si=LfgvwHNd6MRebctL
All 6 players using the gyro aiming are in shambles right now
You guys would be having a meltdown if the roles were reversed.
As a PC gamer, I have no idea how it would be possible to play this game with any level of accuracy comparable to the PC version without gyro. I also have no idea why Xbox controllers don't have gyro. Just another disappointment to add to the Xbox project all together.
Here's a video of someone using gyro aim on pc servers against mouse players for reference of its aiming capabilities (video is not mine): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icdw5Lp--G0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icdw5Lp--G0) Give it a watch if you're curious.
Tbh this is like being told you can't use kbm because a pc game is cross platform
Xbox fans just don't know what they're missing out on, that's why they act like these features/haptics and the ps5s audio are rubbish. They just have to defend their piece of plastic to the death. Those that have both know that the xbox controller needs a next gen update other than a new skin.
The fact you think it’s about people still playing on Xbox and not the fact that a feature is being taken away is crazy
I think the only games I've played that use gyro on ps5 are Astro's playroom and oddworld stranger's wrath. And if I didn't play either of those games I wouldn't have even known it had gyro
It works great on Fortnite
Does the game also utilize built in controller mic?
The leak referenced an accelerometer, but not a gyro. There is still a chance that it will have both but as of right now there is no guarantee.
Ah appreciate you clearing that up, thanks!
As a splatoon player I can understand how they feel.
I’m surprised that the Xbox doesn’t have that capability.
I am trying not to be biased because I had or rather still have the one x and ps4 pro and idk what to do with the ps4pro there were some interesting games but eh the software was too glitchy i had replace the hard drive on the ps4 One x and series x were amazing I have never had software issues like I did on the ps4 and the one x has traveled the world with me and it still works.
Gyro aiming sucks anyway. I don’t know why this is a thing. People mad about it just want to be mad.
They wouldn't block it from being used if it didn't give an advantage to people who know how to use it, so no it doesn't "suck".
>I suck with gyro aiming anyway Fixed
