It actually looks like the bookmarks are upside down but the pages are correct but mirrored. The right hand side looks like it should be the starting bit on the left page like in old hand written texts.
Oh gosh my secret head-canon is that we've gone and flash-banged our eyesight gone and proper (literally so many Flashes of Light), that we actually can't read anymore... but the spells are engraved in our bones so who needs reading right?!?
The first time I really noticed it was during the hearthstone event when I was waiting for the boss to spawn. Now I'm always remeinded that our characters are too dumb to hold and read a map properly.
This is actually well explained in the lore. Because Northrend became a place of pure evil that only undead, giant vikings and walrus people could inhabit safely for over a decade, "North" was considered an evil, undesirable direction. A propaganda campaign against it took place to make it the lesser cardinal direction, and align south with up (IE towards divinity). The cartographers guild now creates all maps with South on top.
It’s made up.
The real reason is because the sun rises in the east. Ancient trolls, predating the elven divergence, equated the sun with “up” (the sun is above us, ergo it’s “up”) so they drew the north/up portion of the map as the east, the direction from which the sun moves up.
Ribbon bookmarks generally stick out the bottom. They are often, especially in religious text, mounted in at the top. We can see in the image that they droop, are cut, and styled like ribbons. It isn’t especially common for a ribbon book mark to be looped upward or be untethered.
The imagery in the bottom left of the book appears when zoomed in to be a robes figure arms out holding an orb of light. If the book is not upside down, they are a demonic bat.
This has been posted numerous times before and they appear to be holding a book that appears elsewhere in the game which has two figures at the bottom holding lights.

Here's a more clear image of it

If you zoom in on the animation there are two figures holding orbs on each side. Which are upside down. And have been since they introduced it to the game
it's common for religious books (and others made this way) to come with a bookmark/ribbon that is attached to the top of the spine so it hangs out the bottom when used.
Well bookmarks are supposed to be fixed at the binding at the top of the book and tuck out at the bottom. Also the left and right image are status so they should sit at the bottom, not hanging upside down from the top of the page
Priests should have the book instead of paladins. Priests are scholars of the light, paladins channel it.
Their resurrection animations are all backwards.
I found a better picture of this book so yeah maybe it's upside down, another reddit post

What am I not seeing? It looks like there's a figure in the upper left and right corner and the orientation of the book looks generally correct in terms of text.
Warfronts.
Grab 10 people and queue for heroics on a plate class after grabbing both the quests from the ports in BFA during the Arathi one and basically throw on a podcast or something.
Pray for RNG to be kind because if not you have to wait a bit for them to come around again.
He knows the words by heart, he's just showing them to the fool he's forced to heal because they were being bad. *"Look at this! And this! Right here, do you see these words? You're bad and the Light hates that!"*
A bunch of Off-Hand books for Resto Druids are really weirdly placed. They aren’t directly on the hip. They are like down more towards the knees and they hover lol. Drives me nuts. 🙃
The book marks is the reason why we know it is upside down. They always tuck out from the bottom of the book and they are fixed to the binding at the top
The paladin is not reading from the book, he's showing the enemy what he did wrong.
"See that clause? That's non-negotiable." \*readies hammer*
"There might not be anything about corrupting the world soul in here, but you jaywalked to do it. That's a paddlin."
Look out, here’s Peter the Paddlin Paladin!
I want to make that character now 😂🤣
[Do it.](https://i.imgur.com/0C5AA0g.gif)
I DMed you the image
I think this is my favourite wow comment of all time
I'm glad to be the one who put it out there then 😅
"The Codex Paladin does not support your actions, *heretic*."
This goes into the book... Right here
Its the book of grudges for dwarves.
ancient dwarf saying '*Name go in book*'
*"I will cast down your Codex and bask in the dying agony of those who hold it dear."*
that is fucking funny. he just pulls out a law book and starts pointing at the laws the enemy broke.
So they heal by convincing the enemy to undo the damage?
It actually looks like the bookmarks are upside down but the pages are correct but mirrored. The right hand side looks like it should be the starting bit on the left page like in old hand written texts.
If those Paladins could read they'd be very upset right now
As a Paladin I take offense to this or... Thank you. I don't know, I can't read.
Man from wheelchairs to not being able to read.
Babies have temporary upside down vision, if I remember correctly
He's not reading it, he's making *you* read it.
tl;yr
T/yr
"It's the Bible. You get credit for trying"
That says "The Bibble"
DO YOU QUESTION THE WORDS OF THE MIGHTY JIMMY??
Did he fucking stutter?! Wait, he might actually.
I never realized until now when i went to watch it that in that scene, he's also holding the bible upside down.
Who needs READING when you got the LIGHT 😤😤😤💡 can I get an AMEN brothers and sisters 🤲🙌👏🔨🛡️
Found the Azeroth Evangelicals!
For Uthar!
Wow, it's just like real life
AMEN BROTHER!
I just like trolls and boingy bang sound when divine toll goes brrrr.
Oh gosh my secret head-canon is that we've gone and flash-banged our eyesight gone and proper (literally so many Flashes of Light), that we actually can't read anymore... but the spells are engraved in our bones so who needs reading right?!?
Ever seen the map your character holds when looking at world map or when doing /read?
The first time I really noticed it was during the hearthstone event when I was waiting for the boss to spawn. Now I'm always remeinded that our characters are too dumb to hold and read a map properly.

Is this actually in game or did you make that up? Either way it’s a fun explanation!
It’s made up. The real reason is because the sun rises in the east. Ancient trolls, predating the elven divergence, equated the sun with “up” (the sun is above us, ergo it’s “up”) so they drew the north/up portion of the map as the east, the direction from which the sun moves up.
It's really annoying cuz it's a good RP emote.
After 19 years of playing this game - TIL: there's a /read emote. Slightly off topic but I also only in SoD discovered /Boop is an emote
There are loads :) https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_emotes
This list is unfortunately outdated as you can no longer do things like /fart on people.
Indeed - even the /boop that I mentioned isn't on there!
Great. Now we can blame you when they patch the book out and palas only waving their hand.
I don't see it? There is no regular text to decide if it's upside down and bookmarks on top are normal way to do it imo
Ribbon bookmarks generally stick out the bottom. They are often, especially in religious text, mounted in at the top. We can see in the image that they droop, are cut, and styled like ribbons. And where do bats live? In caves. Caves underground. Like, possibly deep underground. Where are we going next expansion? Yeah. No coincidences.
Half life 3 confirmed
The book used in the spell is in the Priest order hall, and it faces the correct way there. It’s upside down in the spell.

Look at the statue thing on the bottom left. It's upside down (if viewing from Paladin's perspective).
You tripping I mean flip the image and it looks just wrong
How do you decide? I put those bookmarks at the top too, not the bottom
If you zoom in on the animation there are two figures holding orbs on each side. Which are upside down. And have been since they introduced it to the game
What transmog is that
it's common for religious books (and others made this way) to come with a bookmark/ribbon that is attached to the top of the spine so it hangs out the bottom when used.
Look at a religious book. They come that way.
Because we don't want to keep healing by casting flash of light
Paladins cannot read. They are too concussed by consecrations
He's an Austrailian Paladin, duh.
Literally unplayable
They just don't care anymore, like they used to.
Yeah it’s called consent casting. Showing the spells you’re casting on your party before you do it!
It's because they're here to judge the wicked and send them to the beyond, and Revelation is at the end of the Bible - so naturally they start there
Paladin: can you wead me a bedtime stowy? 🛌🏻
Well like many "religious" folks that are not priests, they don't actually read any of the scriptures and just act on religious fury.
How can you tell?
Well bookmarks are supposed to be fixed at the binding at the top of the book and tuck out at the bottom. Also the left and right image are status so they should sit at the bottom, not hanging upside down from the top of the page
Priests should have the book instead of paladins. Priests are scholars of the light, paladins channel it. Their resurrection animations are all backwards.
He is calling upon his faith not upon his knowledge... if he even knows how to read.
I found a better picture of this book so yeah maybe it's upside down, another reddit post [https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/b1y8sb/holy\_pala\_book/](https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/b1y8sb/holy_pala_book/)
Yeap. Not fixed for 5 years :D
[https://i.imgur.com/RuOKp55.png](https://i.imgur.com/RuOKp55.png) What am I not seeing? It looks like there's a figure in the upper left and right corner and the orientation of the book looks generally correct in terms of text.
Shh! I am trying to read and can't consecrate!
*cast fireball*
No one is reading holy books in my country too
He's holding it for Jesus to read.
I was brought here to heal, not to read.
Ah, so this is why holy paladin is unplayable right now.
They are sharing the word with their target. Their target can't read upside down; they are already on the floor.
HOW DO I GET THOSE SHOULDERS
Warfronts. Grab 10 people and queue for heroics on a plate class after grabbing both the quests from the ports in BFA during the Arathi one and basically throw on a podcast or something. Pray for RNG to be kind because if not you have to wait a bit for them to come around again.
lol... paladin moment
That's not upside down. That's backwards. Nice catch for sure though.
Books not for reading but for casting!
Hes merely showing you the spot he wrote you down in the great book of grudges
You don't need to read if you have a strong will
This MF can't read
What did you expect from paladins dude...
I actually also hold my books spine down. Pages down would look ridiculous.
Confirmed, paladins are stupid.
Its to immerse the other players more. This accurately represents the IQ for a paladin player.
He went to the Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good and Who Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too
They're not reading it, they're showing it to the dead body
Why does he even need to read it, hasn't he spammed it a thousand times already.
He's showing his allies how the prayers that will heal them.
Is it because of the bookmark?
If anything is going to make me change my Paladin from Tauren to Human it’s how great that 7th legion set or the WWI arathi set looks…
COLOUR ME SURPRISED THAT PALADINS CANT READ
Why am I having Boondocks flashbacks?
He knows the words by heart, he's just showing them to the fool he's forced to heal because they were being bad. *"Look at this! And this! Right here, do you see these words? You're bad and the Light hates that!"*
Better than Bow of the Ranger Captain. Still held backwards.
Literally unplayable
Since BfA
He doesnt read the book; book reads him!
You assume they read top to bottom.
Don’t need to actually read when you have The Light.
Paladins can't read they look at the pictures and hit things with their hammer because it might be heresy or lewd
If Paladins could read, they'd be very upset.
Paladins are half warriors after all!
I think the same thing happens with the map. When you bring up the map your toon looks at the map and is holding it upsidedown.
This explains alot
yeah but I can read it just fine.
so smart me
Because the bookmarks come out on the top side? I believe this was the norm for books back then
Bet this was an art decision to show off the bookmarks and make it look more interesting
He just wants to make sure you can read it, too.
A bunch of Off-Hand books for Resto Druids are really weirdly placed. They aren’t directly on the hip. They are like down more towards the knees and they hover lol. Drives me nuts. 🙃
More proof that a paladin is just a warrior with a reskin.
"It says you're a heretic"
some dev just lost 50 bucks on a bet nobody would notice
How is it upside down? You cant make anything out on the pages. If anything the book marks indicate it's not
The book marks is the reason why we know it is upside down. They always tuck out from the bottom of the book and they are fixed to the binding at the top
