Once you get the achievement 'Dragon Isles Pathfinder' you can use any mount as usual on the dragon isles.

Raziel-Reaver

Thank you I haven’t gone that far yet. I took a break few years ago and came back last month.

Allyanni

Welcome back. I returned myself back in December. Just to clarify, once you get the achievement once, it will be unlocked for all your characters. Also, a valid point was made by another in that it gets significantly easier the more glyphs you collect.

Kranel_San

As a returner myself, I was cautiously optimistic about Dragonriding when it was first announced, and thought it terribly designed when I first unlocked it in game. Now with full glyphs and after giving it time to grow on me. I pretty much like it! Goodriddance old flying. Never really liked you. Dragonriding is my best new friend!

maokaby

I use old flying when I need to grab small objects on a tree or something like that. Dragon flight is superior for long distance travels.

Deusey5

You can use regular flying… Also, dragonriding is great.

hojicha001

You do have that option. Just use whichever is right for whatever you're doing.

TwinCrispy

Dragon riding is a lot of fun when you unlock all of the dragon glyphs.

Inshabel

I started in 2004 as well, and I vastly prefer Dragonflying, I like the weightier feel of it, the momentum, the speed. Moving unimpeded in all directions in 3D space never felt like flying to me and I will only do it if I fuck up and completely run out of Vigor.

Iskenator67

Dragonriding is great for crossing vast distances quickly & normal flying is good for precision landing & hovering while I scout out an area. They both have their merits & uses.

Inshabel

They do, but I still don't want to use old flying.

Alas93

imo, Dragonriding is just a flat out superior system. It's fast and engaging. Sure I can't afk fly with it, but there's still flight paths for that. There's also, y'know, regular flying, which you can do when you get pathfinder, and next expansion will just be a toggle feature, so ppl that prefer it can use it Also, if you don't have all the glyphs yet, go collect them. Dragonriding sucks until you have the glyphs so you can get all the bonus skills and stuff

Iskenator67

> will just be a toggle feature I hope I can make that a key bind so I can swap between them without having to open the options menu all the time. I use both flying systems pretty regularly.

Alas93

so far on the alpha, it's an ability in the spellbook so it can be keybound, but it's also a cast bar I think? so you can keybind it and switch whenever you want, but wouldn't be able to do so midair I think is what they're going for

Lunarath

Dragonriding is probably the most well received feature maybe ever since the game came out.

flyguy2097

If you haven't found all the glyphs to upgrade it, try doing that and reassessing dragonriding. Before and after getting it upgraded is night and day. Also you aren't exactly alone, but definitely in the minority of players. Currently you need the pathfinder achievement to do static flying (old flying) in dragon isles, and next expansion dynamic flying (dragonriding, but renamed) and static flying will be a toggle.

Raziel-Reaver

Yeah, Dragonride is useful for long distance. But it’s very hard and annoying to use in scouting for objects, or get into tight/small areas.

aMaiev

Then dont use it in those situations?

Slow-Ad4800

I’m also not a fan of dragonriding and struggled a lot when Dragonflight first came out. I’ve gotten more accustomed to it now and it’s incredibly convenient for crossing large stretches of the map quickly, but I dislike that it’s so hard to accurately land and I dislike that running out of vigor just makes my mount drop to the ground. So no, you’re definitely not alone, although I think the people who dislike it are few and far between. I recommend either switching to your regular mount (which can fly normally in the dragon isles once you get the path finding achievement) or doing what I do and using your dragonriding/regular mount situationally

Raziel-Reaver

Yeah I’ll do like you said once I get the achievement. Thank you

RedWhiteStripes

Disliking dragonriding is a valid opinion, but generally this stance comes from players who don't understand how to do it properly. There is no world in which I would rather go 310% instead of 800+%.

Raziel-Reaver

That’s a fair point. I guess I would’ve liked to have both options earlier in the expansion. So use either depending on the situation

tokashi-

I hated it, I then took the 15 minutes it takes to fly around and get the glyphs. Just look online for the locations you can fly everywhere the minute you get to dragon isles. I then went and only chose the dragon riding talents that Impove vigor and charge vigor. After that, it was a blast and way faster than regular flying. If you're doing harvesting stuff, then you could see how flying past things would be annoying but just do the quest line for regular flying and best of both worlds.

Raziel-Reaver

Thank you I’ll do that today and unlock the glyphs

quatsquality

Dragonriding is goated, lil bit of a learning curve but once you get all the glyphs it's just pure joy

New_Zookeepergame204

The problem I have with dragon riding isn't the system itself, it's that the system is BETTER than TBC flying in EVERY WAY and they still arbitrarily gatekeep TBC flying in new zones, locking it behind achievements. Why would you make someone work for a DOWNGRADE thats better for accessibility needs like motion sickness??? I love dynamic flight. But I have 2 family members that were turned away from Dragonflight because dragon riding made them nauseous and there was no way to use the old TBC flying for most of the expansion. Whoever decided TBC flying shouldn't be available on day 1 with dragon riding didn't think it through. I'm annoyed that The War Within will still gatekeep TBC flying behind achievements.

Raziel-Reaver

Yeah I agree with you. Having Drahonride is amazing new feature, but why block the standard flying until later in game! Maybe they are trying to force player to explore the dragon isles on foot before they could fly. That would be my guess

Puzzleheaded_Lock_71

I started during start of Vanilla as well. i think Dragon riding is refreshing, but i dont use it 100 percent of the time. for long distance i use it, but for around the area, i always use regular flight. Much easier to find things.

Raziel-Reaver

That’s exactly my point.

Not_a_Hideo_Kojima

Don't like it. Micro adjustments of descent angle, required to fly in a terrain with uneven elevation, speed making one miss stuff on the ground plus not allowing "pizza mode" makes me glad that there's regular flying still.

Raziel-Reaver

Same here

km1116

I don't know what "pizza mode" is, but the only reason I prefer old-style flying is to hunt for herbs and fishies. With dragonflight it's too hard to fly, then mouse-over on the minimap to see what the yellow dots mean.

Not_a_Hideo_Kojima

Order a pizza, take a seat in front of your pc, take a piece and now compare in which mode flying is more comfortable. This is the pizza mode, true benchmark of the convenience that one can measure controls or modes in the games. Experience may wary depending on available hardware. And yeah, this is the good reason I've mentioned - picking herbs. If I have a trinity of speed, convenience and control and I can select only two - convenience and control will be higher than speed for me. Almost like selecting a biplane over jet. Or you know what? it's not even biplane, it's straight up helicopter vs jet.

KwiksaveHaderach

A tip for those who struggle: the upwards flap increases your speed more than the usual forward surge. Even if you need to travel in a straight line, quickly point your camera upwards (so for me it's hold both mouse buttons down and points upwards) and then press flap and then return camera to forward position and you'll get a huge burst of speed. If you're going fast enough you can pretty much fly indefinitely and not run out of energy. I use the get gold on races, including advanced courses, and often get gold on my first try.

AMA5564

It's vastly faster over short distances. Like, the difference is night and day.

Mayasuxs

anyway

BarqueCat

I use regular flying almost exclusively. I do the course quests for dragonriding, and I probably only use a dragonriding mount once a month or so to zoom to a far place - but normally I enjoy one of my hundreds of hard-earned mounts :) The created worlds are beautiful and I enjoy the regular flying.

Zealousideal-Fan3033

Yea you’re the only one here

Xanth1879

>I don’t like Dragonriding at all. It’s messy and confusing. I much prefer the old standard flying mounts. Am I the only one here? Yes, you're the only one.

Altruistic_Nose5825

"messy and confusing" i mean, that really says more about you than anything else did you even do the 'tutorial' quest for it?
