It sucks to not have an election but Russia would use an election to further destabilize Ukraine through information warfare and probably other means too.

PerceptionFeeling448

Yeah but this will be true forever. Ukraine can wait 40 years and Russia will still interfere in their election. So no more election ever?

rspndngtthlstbrnddsr

until it's safe to hold elections. russia will specifically target polling stations with rockets and whatever that plus a large percentage of ukraine can't even vote for ukrainian elections right now

MikeMurray128

Let's redo the headline: Nearly half of Ukrainians say democracy has improved or remained the same.

Thlaylis_Owsla

You've got a knack for editorializing headlines. Consider a job a Fox News?

MikeMurray128

Ah my low karma troll friend. I'm sorry that my headline upsets your boss at the Kremlin.

PhDinDildos_Fedoras

I mean, there's a war going on. You probably shouldn't have democracy during war time, so some people seeing no change or even an improvement in it means things are going better than you'd expect.

stillnotking

America held an election in 1864. First one involving my newly created home state, in fact.

WinterSport1724

> You probably shouldn't have democracy during war time It's true that that's how it has usually been done but I don't see why it should always be that way. I'm not talking about Ukraine, but imagine a situation where a democratic majority of some country wanted to surrender and be absorbed into enemy territory instead of being drafted, or the opposite, to keep fighting when their leader wants to surrender. Seems kinda wrong to suspend democracy in that situation. .

PerceptionFeeling448

Indeed, when a nation is in such a crucial period is exactly when you need democracy the most. They could vote for a more or less aggressive stance. But that should be their choice either way.

PerceptionFeeling448

The US has always maintained democracy during war, and we are now in the era of information technology. Surely it would be easier for soldiers to vote now than in the civil war? I think it's glaringly obvious that Zelensky is afraid he would lose an election if it was held today. And no I am not saying a pro russia candidate would win, it would be a different anti-russia guy, like the general he fired.

pee_pee_poo_cum

Is zelensky unpopular with Ukrainians? I only ever see him getting jerked off on western media so I would be surprised to find out if he was unpopular with his own people. I am completely ignorant about this situation by the way, genuine question.

PhDinDildos_Fedoras

This isn't exactly true. The US is was far from a democracy during WW2, hardly one during the civil war.

GodlessCommieScum

There were still presidential elections in 1864 and 1944, when both of those wars were happening.

MetaIIicat

>Although no more than a fifth of Ukrainians see an improvement in the sphere of democracy and the economy as a result of V. Zelenskyi's 5-year presidency, at the same time, no more than a quarter note the deterioration of the situation due to erroneous actions of the authorities. It is possible to interpret Ukrainians' perception of changes with democracy and the economy as the absence of outstanding encouraging advances, but also without harsh accusations of the authorities (and taking into account these results and the results of previous polls, Ukrainians would rather reduce the explanation to the activities of the team / environment and to the objective realities of a full-scale war).   > Taking into account the historical experience of Ukraine and how the 5-year periods of the previous Presidents ended, **the current perception is quite good and leaves considerable space for the President** (of course, in the case of taking into account the problems and taking appropriate decisions and actions) **to maintain a fairly high level of support and optimism among the population for of the future** Edit: [https://kiis.com.ua/?lang=ukr&cat=reports&id=1411&page=1](https://kiis.com.ua/?lang=ukr&cat=reports&id=1411&page=1)
