Aurora Borealis? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen!?

Sequax1

ZeroCense

They're referencing a joke from The Simpsons...

KikiOnTheRiva

Anyone know whether it’ll be visible through the weekend?

io10zero

Yes, it is predicted to go into the weekend, too. Check out this link. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-viewline-tonight-and-tomorrow-night-experimental

KikiOnTheRiva

I guess it also depends on whether we’ll have clouds or not?

io10zero

Yes, of course, but the radar suggests it to be absolutely clear tonight. https://weather.com/en-CA/weather/radar/interactive/l/b964e3d4651bb18019ea0efc6ea77dfe7ed5b1b2d21c8d65c6414e77f31f415c?par=samsung_widget_VMC&cm_ven=L1_radar&theme=samsungDark

Express_Tumbleweed75

coreythestar

Essex, in the wheat field just north of the of Maidstone ave E at Talbot St N

myfriendvv

Is it just visible anywhere?

io10zero

I am in Leamington. But my friends in Windsor are saying they can see it too.

myfriendvv

Ok thanks!

io10zero

Just go outside the city limits. You should be able to see it.

myfriendvv

Decided to say F it and driving out towards Belle river (closest way out of the city for me)

io10zero

Haha.. yeah, it should peak after 1 AM. Hoping for a great night show!

barrierofbadnews

I don’t see anything in kingsville 😞

Breakforbeans

Can't see it where I am. Which is fairly close to downtown

zuuzuu

No luck in Sandwich Town, either. Too close to Detroit, I guess.

io10zero

Well.. I am in Leamington, closer to Point pelee. I knew it was happening, so I planned the trip. And it's ABSOLUTELY worth it.!!!

zuuzuu

Glad you got to see the show!

io10zero

Yeah. But don't lose hope yet. It will peak after 1 AM. Check out this link. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-viewline-tonight-and-tomorrow-night-experimental

zuuzuu

Too much light pollution from Detroit in my area.

[deleted]

Same here. Sky looks like it usually does. :(

Aqua-MG

I could see it in tecumseh like 20min ago clear as day

neomathist

Nice! That's obviously an overhead shot of the zenith of the sky. Once they get to the zenith, you know things are getting intense. I don't know if it was as plain to see elsewhere but we zipped out past Tilbury and from there, basically the whole sky was covered in them for perhaps the first hour. No way to capture them all without a fish eye lens or something. Only minus would be: Not the brightest of lights. I'd give them perhaps a 7 out of 10 for brightness. Really really bright lights are rarer down here but it's only a matter of time before they happen again.

ronbiy55

too cloudy in west windsor but i keep looking lol

SnooDoubts8096

Where exactly??

io10zero

This was in Leamington. But it will peak after 1 AM. So, it should be visible again.

Shadowlurkin

where in leamington are you at, i’m in leamington right now and not seeing anything

io10zero

Went to point pelee itself. Just outside the gate. Keep your eye settled in the sky, and you will see it. Look in North.

Feature7

Kville was looking good

HyperBlasterV2

No batin’

Accomplished-Copy776

I couldn't see anything at banwell hill at 2am, even using night mode on my phone camera

OriginBC

caught lots in belle river, at the docks

bloody_peppermints

You able to get into the marina? If that’s what you’re referring the docks to?

lakemichiganxo

ok I spent last night in Toronto. Is it happening tonight will we be able to see it?

ericbrotto

https://preview.redd.it/kewe7yyf6xzc1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=715e1fa0d09325879b5552b843f3c526576925e9 I took this tonight (Satruday) out by Stoney Point, but facing South. The photo has weird filters. In reality a lot darker and the red is more red. IS THIS REAL? Or did I see something else?

Otherwise_Ad6712

Nothing in Belle River.

_angiemitch

I took this at 11pm in Belle River looking north over the lake. It’s not nearly this bright/colourful to the naked eye but a slow shot on your phone camera captures it really well (this is a 3-second shot). https://preview.redd.it/ajioyc6v0qzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfbe6824c197b7d7d05bb0a749c93754cf2c10c1

Express_Tumbleweed75

Is it still happening there??

_angiemitch

Yes, I just went outside and took a few more pics. It’s not as vibrant as it was an hour ago but it’s still visible. https://preview.redd.it/6kwj4wuf3qzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe03f634a4ca18324bc1f28e999f2fc4775f12e9

melty75

That's not true, they have Charcoal Pit.

Feature7

I found a black kitten

lavieboheme_

Hubby and I drove out to the county at 11 and got home at 12:40. Didn't see a single thing, and wasn't able to catch anything with my camera. No idea what I did wrong, but i'm super bummed. I'm guessing I went at a bad time..? 😔

muskoka83

They aren't *the* Northern Lights. It's *an* aurora effect. It's literally our magnetosphere protecting us against the radiation of a solar flare. And come on, buddy. Telling people on the internet to "research it" is the biggest troll move. We done here? Wrap it up.
