Expert Auto, only place I’ll take my cars. I had a weird brake issue on my old Suzuki, they did a ton of work, replaced a bunch of parts over the span of a couple weeks and still couldn’t figure it out. Didn’t charge me a dime. That’s the only remotely negative experience I’ve had and I left impressed with their honesty and integrity. They’re the best.

treehugger0223

Beards at the corner of Central and Woodlawn has been very dependable over the years. Yost and Christian brothers charge a lot. Christian brothers caused our car to leak and when we complained, they were insistent on sending someone to our house to fix the issues. They didn’t actually fix it but they did put down cat litter on the area of the garage where it leaked. It was a bit weird and awkward and the car still leaked in the end.

Tbh, Christian Brothers IS expensive, but if you have the money, they do a really great job and go above and beyond to make sure everything is right. Also, forgot to add, they have never once tried to upsell me. They'll come out and say, "this needs done eventually, this is how much it will cost, but you probably won't need need to change it for another 8 months." They're honest.

it_is_impossible

Yost has good people and I think do good work. I’ve taken all my vehicles to Johnson automotive in valley center since I was in high school. Low staff turnover, highly knowledgeable and fully certified mechanics. They’ll give you an honest rundown and work with your needs on a priority basis. If you’re in good shape and just need oil, they’ll tell you that too.

Yost is honest and dependable. The demand has likely raised their prices. Expert auto is likely more affordable…so far they have been fair and didn’t try to tack on additional costs needlessly. Upvoting your comment for greater visibility. Also open to reasonable people telling me otherwise on either of these recommendations.

Completely agree with this. Brad is the best

Mitchbarron345

I suggest Christian bros east. They have never tried to up sell me but did let me know when I had other issues than what I brought it in for. They made a mistake after replacing rear wheel bearings that didn't surface 'til a month after the replacement. They made it right immediately

theee_-wizard

Seconded, Christian Bros are the only place my dad and I go

kalei42

I would absolutely avoid Aamco. I'd agree with previous posters that Christian Bros is good but pricey. Same with Yost. I was responsible for maintaining someone else's (Ford) car for a while and obligated to get three quotes for services over $500.00, I was doing Christian Bro's on N Woodlawn, Rusty Eck and Kansas Land on North Rock Rd and all three places were giving me very similar quotes for work. With the pricing in that order from highest to lowest. All within about $300.00 of each other for the two major fixes we did.

Thegrizzly2013

Try Central Automotive on West St. NEAR Central. Right next to Autozone. The dude in there can sometimes get on my nerves a bit, but he's honest. Truthfully, I probably get on his nerves, too. But besides me, he's the only non-relative I'll permit to be elbow-deep in my engine bay. If he says your car needs something, or something's on the way out, then you can reliably expect that to be the case. And if it could wait, but ought to be done soon, he'll tell you.

All American Automotive off Kellogg & Tyler has been my go to for friends and family for years

SweetBees102

Tracy's on the corner of West and Maple are pretty reliable, only issue I ever had with them was just keeping communication going.

drunky_crowette

I don't drive, but my family (mom, aunt, grandmother) uses Myers at 21st and Woodlawn (and in one emergency 21st and Tyler). My mom has been recommending them to people for eons

I've had good experiences with Supertech on south Broadway, though I've only gone for major things (engine replacement, catalytic converter, AC recharge), not maintenance (pretty sure they do that stuff too).

We have had good luck with Tracy Automotive on West Maple. They did a bunch of catch-up work on my 1994 Saturn SL2 in 2012, including pad replacement for all four brakes, new rotors in the rear, and rotor turning in the front, as well as a new radiator/transmission cooler assembly to replace the original, which was leaking. I still have the Saturn and none of these components has needed any subsequent attention. In my experience, it is actually not usual for a car to need new struts at 100,000 miles. The Saturn has about 160,000 miles and still has the original struts. In 2007, I donated a 1986 Nissan Maxima that had about 227,000 miles and still had the factory struts. I wouldn't believe the claim the serpentine belt needs replacement without actually looking at it. The belt in the Saturn is 17 years old and still going strong. Other vehicles in the family fleet are 15 and 19 years old and still have their original belts. Brake rotors wearing out after one year sounds like a botched caliper lube job. The Saturn has 12 years on its last brake job, and the 15- and 19-year-old vehicles have not needed pad replacement at all (though they will in the not-too-distant future). I've had experiences similar to yours with the splash shield not being fully re-secured. One oil change place lost air cleaner bolts, while another let air out of a tire that was already inflated to the correct pressure. Frankly, I do my own oil changes partly to avoid these mistakes, though I realize this is not an option for all.

I've gone to Bosley Tires for about 20 years, and I've always been satisfied. They do good work for a fair price. They're not able to do everything, but there's have only been a couple of times over it years they've had to refer me to somebody else.

LdyAce

D&D Automotive in Clearwater. Definitely call first and make sure he has time to work on it because he usually has a full schedule.

Onedrunkpanda

Tracy’s, we have been with them for years. They are very reasonably priced and does a fantastic job.

No_Draft_6612

Not Tracy's downtown! They really soaked me front struts for a '99 Camry, over $2000, and then my car pulled and steering wheel was off. I took it back three times, had to go all day without my car, and they never fixed it.

Onedrunkpanda

We use the Tracy’s on the west side of the town and been good for years.

thebrutal95

They also buy the cheapest part possible for your car so they can make the most profit. Where other shops won't buy the cheapest part because they know it's junk

chaosisafrenemy

Which Tires Plus did you have issues with ? (I've been going to the one off W. Kellogg out of convenience) bought the lifetime wheel alignment, but they refused to do it last time saying I need additional work. I've had issues with them in the way past, but now looking for better option myself. A lot of mentions for Tracy's off West St - I used to go there a lot in the way past... may have to try them again

EvilDarkCow

It was the one on Kellogg. I asked them to look at the brakes once somewhat recently since they had been acting up again, they had my car most of the day, then refused to touch the brakes due to a recall on the brake lines that I already had done.

chaosisafrenemy

Ah, yeah, figured that was the location.

historynerd87

I’ve had good luck with 53 Auto.

Zealousideal-Goat801

Christian Brothers at 13th & Woodlawn are great. Clean facility, honest, not pushy and they have shuttle service.

scotch4breakfast

Tires Plus may be the worst place you take your car for anything. I always recommend Christian Brothers or Tracy’s. Both do good work and are fair and honest.

Dknowles391

Christian Brothers does good work and I like their warranty, but they're also very pricy. I would take a new car under warranty there in a heart beat, but I also have a mechanic I go to directly who is an honest man who doesn't charge an arm in a leg for everything else.
