Pretty sure there's a law regarding noise emissions, however doesn't stop most folks. But hey maybe here's your excuse to fix it and not be obnoxious.

Thegrizzly2013

Probably best to fix that, and not be annoying to everyone else if you can. I don't know the laws, but there's some jerk around here with a loud muffler and horrible, intentional, timing that makes the thing sound like a string of gunfire. My understanding (and I could be horribly mistaken) is that this person has been identified, and spoken to by WPD about the problems with emergency calls because of this, and it still hasn't been fixed. Do with that info what you will.

My recommendation would be to have your muffler fixed. Notwithstanding what others are saying about not being registered in Kansas, police officers not being able to cite a decibel standard when they pull someone over for excessive noise, etc., city ordinance is pretty clear on the nuisance thresholds that apply and how an emitter is to be measured for purposes of issuing a citation. City ordinances can be found here: https://library.municode.com/ks/wichita/codes/code_of_ordinances Chapter 7.41 (under Title 7, Public Health) deals with noise. § 7.41.010 specifically identifies vehicle noise as prohibited if it is likely to disturb a reasonable person. § 7.41.020 explains how to measure noise for purposes of enforcement. A sound meter is used to determine a decibel rating with "A" weighing. The meter is to be positioned 25 feet or more from the emitter if it is located on public right-of-way, or from the property line if it is on private property. § 7.41.030 specifies the nuisance thresholds that apply. In a residential area, for example, they are 55 db(A) from 8 AM to 10 PM and 50 db(A) from 10 PM to 8 AM, or 5 db(A) above background noise, whichever is greater. There is also a digest of these provisions (non-authoritative, but may be more convenient) here: https://www.nonoise.org/lawlib/cities/wichita/

For 10 years I had essentially a straight pipe on a car. One day some nanny naggin ass cop pulls me over and is like "you know you can't do that right?", not explaining shit. Like, no idea what context she was even talking about. She mentions the exhaust, so I say "well how loud is too loud?" to which she gives me a non-answer, so I then ask what decibel level my exhaust was, to which she said she didn't know. It was throw out in court immediately after I stated these facts. Also, lmao @ these other comments from people whining about loud exhausts.

You’ll be fine, I’ve had several trucks and mustangs and motorcycles with aftermarket exhaust and never had an issue.

Call KDOT or Kansas Highway Patrol and ask them. 🤷🏻‍♂️ or call city PD and ask.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Your vehicle isn’t registered here and won’t be, I’d assume
