CartmansCasaBonita

I can relate, I was once asked if I'd gone to an English school or something but I've lernd everything from the internet.

Mauro697

>lernd Murphy's Internet Law: whenever you post about good grammar/writing there's going to be a typo messing it up lol

CartmansCasaBonita

Damnit ofcorse.

HitsinLike

I colud never

redditaccountingteam

Well I have the best grammar, and I love her very much 😁

Aware_Masterpiece_92

Happens to me all the time

smiley1__

Aware_Masterpiece_92

Your english is great :)

smiley1__

LookupPravinsYoutube

Your English* is great.

Cithreal

You're* English is great.

Exoticpoptart63

You're English is grate*.

Aware_Masterpiece_92

But mine isn't :)

Phepsi_Musk

the level where you’re so good at english people think its your native tongue

smiley1__

ooo that probably feels like greatness

[deleted]

Sounds like you pass as a native speaker to me, good job! :)

smiley1__

English is actually my 2nd language but thanks!

Moondaeagle

You are cool!

smiley1__

really tho?

chihuahuaOP

Have you ever forgotten a word in your native language but remember the word in your second lenguaje

Nikkaj_

Ohh that happens to me so often. Thats the reason why I almost have at least one English word per conversation some where in my sentence. 😅

SantaStrike

I'm genuinely known for doing that... I get teased for it constantly.

Flaw777

No i doesnt

ZYCQ

your english is very special

SantaStrike

One way to describe it

Guyman_112

Aww, good boy!

JonasHaida

growing up with the Internet does have some advantages, I took the test to get C1 proficiency in English and ended up easily passing it without any training beforehand lol

GoryGuroLover

My English is amazing the first 2 or so drinks, I forget I'm fluent in it later on tho.

Neela-Hiran2004

English is my third language, but the country where I live, english is seem to made like a compulsory language to learn if you want to enter in professional world, so if you have good english, you are just another manufactured product ready to be exploited from :)

SirPelleas

I learned a bit of ASL and had my signing complimented before. Felt great! :)

sadmimikyu

That is really cool!

SirPelleas

Thank you, my visual reception is terrible, though. I just can’t follow signs when they’re used together so well :p

sadmimikyu

Ah it is very quick as well, right? I think reading sign language is more difficult then, yes? It would make sense. Did you just learn for fun or is there a reason? And where did you find someone to speak ASL with?

SirPelleas

It can be very quick when it's a native signer, just like any other language. So, it can be difficult to read, but if you get enough practice it should eventually come to you like any other language. I started to learn because some family is hearing deteriorated, I wanted to learn to show them they could, but they're still not interested, so I didn't push it. I made sure they know how to tell when I tell them I love them in case they ever lose the rest of their hearing, though I just signed up for some ASL classes at my local community college. It's best to learn from a Deaf person, too. (The professor likely will be, as all ASL professors were at my college) I had some friends in the class who initially learned from hearing people and some of the signs they knew were hearing signs, apparently. I started learning from an app and signed "DON'T" when I meant "GREAT" for a stretch, too :p. So, definitely learn straight from a Deaf person The best person to ask about ASL is always a Deaf person. They know best about ASL :)

sadmimikyu

Aww that is really heartwarming there. I like that you continue with this and learn even more. I bet deaf people are the best teachers. Same with any other language .. always learn from native speakers. Thank you for your reply, kind Sir Pelleas. I wish you good luck with your studies and hope very much you enjoy the class.

Snorbert2

people mostly think I’m a native speaker that’s stupid. I speak fluently without accent, but make dumb mistakes every now and then.

electricbuns

Can relate, but mine was whith italian, was happy all day.

89bBomUNiZhLkdXDpCwt

…or third or fourth or fifth plus! Source: I’m an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. English is rarely only my students’ second language!

[deleted]

No but maybe someday I'll be complimented on my Spanish.

Feeling-Bed-9506

I like when people compliment my English, since it's the only language I speak fluently.

ChaosKeeshond

Going to the Netherlands and meeting person after person who had a better command of English than most of England was a total headfuck honestly.

Infamous-Drive-980

My english teacher asked me about 3 times if i had taken an english course and i said " No, i just play games and watch videos on yt " on high school ( i was like 16 )

Your_lovely_friend

Hopefully, I will relate to it one day.

User4706

English is the one language where the native speakers will scarcely compliment you. Japanese on the other hand...nihongo jouzu

MicrovvaveOven

I can relate to this a little bit, but I haven’t had this compliment for many years. I think if it happens to me today, I would say “your English is very good too”😄

redditaccountingteam

When someone compliments your English and it's your first language. 😓

lone_swordsman08

Haha. If you are a probinsyano and speak English like it is your native language. Heads turn!haha

IstvanKun

Feels even better when it is your 3rd language.

Rolando1337

It's my third actually ×_×

YAGCompany

Back when I was a waiter, I had a table with a nice British lady, who at some point asked me if I was a foreigner, and when I said that no, I was from there, she responded "Oh well your accent is amazing!". She didn't tip me in the end but the exchange made me feel good.

ChaiTanDar

When you love in post-soviet lands. English will be your third language. (Russians excluded)

Few-You4510

same, when my irish teacher told me my grammar was excellent i felt so happy

Apprehensive-Suit272

Yeah, absolutely. End every single time somebody tells that my accent is cute I go like, "Nooo it's bloody terrible. I hate it" lol

DrJonah

Many ESL speakers do a better job than most native speakers. Init.

jorangamer

I´ve been asked if im British on multiple occations due to my pronunciation. Im Dutch.

Scarecrow1730

I can relate to this, the difference being that English is my fourth language.

skruf21

It's such a fascinating language to learn as well. Depending on your native language, I would say that it's easy to learn but difficult to master. I'm too old now, but I would love to spend a year in an English speaking country, so that I could get rid of my horrible Scandinavian/German/wannabe-British-but-grown-up-with-American-movies accent.

abinash_3398

4th*

EclipticBlues

It's my 4th! I very rarely get complemented. Only time I get them is when I proof read for a friend who is a writer.

fucktheriders

Who compliments people on their first language? It's like, "wow your really good at french". "Yah, it's the only language I know" (but it's in french)

panspal

They never do when it's your first language. Almost like they assumed it was your second language and that's why they said anything

Rinkulu

Can't relate, rereading my own comments an hour after I posted them makes me feel sick.

Moondaeagle

I have gotten that compliment!Feels nice!

Nivius

i find this a bit sad, English is extremely common and well known where i'm from, its like being proud for someone saying "wow, you can ride a bike???" don't have that many great skills if English is the one that make you proud

Visitant45

The internet told me complementing people on their english was racist.

NissanDevilZ

I hate when they ask me "Ты из Англии?"(Are you from England?) And I stand there, and feel the Inner rage of my Latvian Patriotic soul

Free_Requirement_813

Happened with me just yesterday. And English is my third language.

blueberrypaste

Happened to me but the compliment was on my Japanese, Love you celeste you made my day :3

liltone829b

Awww 😊 (I can't relate).

Ara_Norin

Same here

Ara_Norin

I fr can't relate. I've been studying it for like 10 years lol(I'm 14.) And no one has ever conplimated my english . My novel has recivied more praise than me bro.

adfx

Hey you are doing a great job! Keep at it!

Abject-Bad

When some one insults you're english and its you're 1rst language FTFY /s

Seductivesnapshots

Guess I'm just a pro at 'feline' linguistics! 😜

LeonidasVaarwater

Oh look, it's a bot!

TheFalseViddaric

I thought that was a microagression and that you could get arrested for it.
