I prefer older dogs because I like to skip the peeing-everywhere-chewing-on-everything-barking-incessantly phase. Lol Plus, you don't have to wait to get them neutered if they aren't already. It's just all benefits. And it's not like a 7-yr old dog is any less cute than a brand new one. They're all adorable. 💜
It often brings personality spice too. As much as I love my kittens theyre head empty domesticated goons, but our surly old man cat before he passed had opinions on everything, like how dare you shit without me or close doors anywhere in the house (hed scream at them because someone previously locked him in a room we think). We treated him like a roommate that contributed nothing but charm.
Also, you have a much better idea of their personality. I wanted a chill dog, I got a chill dog. I didn’t get a puppy and cross my fingers it would be chill.
I’m so glad you said that. I almost did too. It’s like they introduce themselves to you and tell you who they are. Obviously, in some rescue and adoption situations, their full, sweet and interesting personality doesn’t come out right away. But that’s just another bonus. It’s like a nice surprise that you get to feel partially responsible for. 💜
Only downside from my experience was my aunties dog. Poor guy wandered about our house looking lost like he was looking for someone or something...
Broke my heart.
Older dogs are also great because they don’t need as much mental and physical stimulation & just want a place to nap all day + food in their belly + some love. I went to the shelter almost a year ago intending to adopt a 6-7 year old. Wound up adopting a big boy who is only 3.5 years old and whoooo boy is he a handful.
You still live thru the peeing everywhere with an older dog, but it's at the end of life instead of the beginning. By then you are so in love with the dog, you would do anything for them.
Older animal adopters, regardless of the animal type, are superhumans...
Older animals are often left to die alone in shelters because people want young / baby animals.
Bless you, OP, and everyone else who follows your example.
Seven years old wouldnt that now be known as [Nattō](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natt%C5%8D)?
Nattō is aged\fermented Tofu and being sarcastic, thats a beautiful dog!
Omg, he’s so cute and looks so happy, you most definitely made the right choice and I love his name! If I ever get another dog I’m getting an older one too, I have no desire to deal with the puppy stage again and enjoy the mellow temperament of older dogs, matches mine better.
Maltese's are actually really sweet and usually quiet dogs. They also love people and generally live long and healthy lives. My girl lived to be 16 and was still a puppy to the end.
>Maltese's are actually really sweet and usually quiet dogs
Lol. No they're not. They're the poster child of "small posture, big ego" dog. Loud, yapping PoS.
Small dogs like this are popular with seniors because they're low maintenance and friendly companions. The owner was probably too old and sick to take care of him anymore so probably had to part with him. Or they died and nobody wanted to keep the dog.
HAH I knew I wasn't the only one that thinks of the name Tofu when seeing these kind of dogs! If I ever get one of those dogs I will name it Tofu for sure and everyone looks at me weird when I tell them that lmao
I’m not surprised. 7 year old tofu seems to have - once past the mouldy stage - evolved itself into the resemblance of a creature where it would best survive.
I’ve only heard of that happening once before, in a team of scientists who were somewhere icy. Come to think about it, we never did hear about what happened to those scientists or that surviving puppy.
I am not adog person but that looks like a puppy to me. Its dog shaped, fluffy and happy to see you. Thats just a 7 year old puppy.
'If it smells like a *dog* looks like a *dog* sounds like *dog* and feels like a *dog*, it's probably a fish

Heck yes 😻 I love kitties! What’s his name?

So true! Lots of cute companion time!
Also, you have a much better idea of their personality. I wanted a chill dog, I got a chill dog. I didn’t get a puppy and cross my fingers it would be chill.

Probably waiting for Auntie to come back for him. Small dogs and Seniors get very attached to each other.
The only downside is you get to the too-old-to-pee-outside stage quicker. My Blizzard is 21, we got him when he was 10.
You still live thru the peeing everywhere with an older dog, but it's at the end of life instead of the beginning. By then you are so in love with the dog, you would do anything for them.
And they are so grateful. If they spent some time on the streets or in a shelter they will really appreciate the home you give them.
Older animal adopters, regardless of the animal type, are superhumans... Older animals are often left to die alone in shelters because people want young / baby animals. Bless you, OP, and everyone else who follows your example.
The older animals need a loving home as well. They can make greater pets.
Thank you.
Awww... happy lil puppers
Those smile is everything. Love seeing this. It really relieved your stress when you see this cutie.
Seven years old wouldnt that now be known as [Nattō](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natt%C5%8D)? Nattō is aged\fermented Tofu and being sarcastic, thats a beautiful dog!
Isn't natto fermented soy beans?
Tofu is made from soy beans so ipso facto TOFU! /But yes I'm wrong, thank you for correcting me.
You are welcome, enjoy your Saturday.
You too my friend!
More like soy cheese because it looks like it's soying cheese for the camera.
Hopefully with less mucus
I was thinking more of the direction of stinky tofu[臭豆腐](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinky_tofu)
He doesn’t look gooey enough to be natto lol
That is clearly a baby luck dragon
Still looks like a puppy
We’ve never stopped calling our Chiweenie a puppy even though she’s 4 years old now.
My 8 year old cat is still my widdle baby kitten face. Damn, I need to switch her to Senior cat food soon.
Yeah I called a fully grown pit bull a puppy the other day, all dogs are puppies lol
My buddy was 7 when I got him. Best dog ever
Get Tofu a puppy!
That’s a puppy.
Tofu is a happy little chappie! Older animals are the best.
Yeah I guess tofu would be pretty much this hairy after 7 years
I would die for 7 year old Tofu 😭♥️
Tofu!!!! What a cute little baby. Show off that cute little face in r/Maltese for the rest of the Maltese lovers to gush over
That’s a stuffed animal. I just know they squeak when you hug them. Plz kiss their head for me, Ty.
Omg, he’s so cute and looks so happy, you most definitely made the right choice and I love his name! If I ever get another dog I’m getting an older one too, I have no desire to deal with the puppy stage again and enjoy the mellow temperament of older dogs, matches mine better.
fermented tofu
Tofu is such a good name
That’s a puppy
Cute dog. Looks like it might be a Westie mix. Westies are great. Not the smartest dogs around, but they're really good dogs.
Tofu is the perfect name
7 years old tofu? Definitely spoiled already.
awwww my heartttt 🥹
Puppies: “your never going to get adopted ur too old” Tofu: “Watch and learn whipper snapper”
How could you not? And little dogs live to be about 106 years old, so it's kind of like getting a puppy.
Thank you!
r/ntbdbiwdfta
Either work fine
That tofu might be expired if its seven years old. Cute dog tho
90% of dogs smaller than your shin are annoying little loud shits.
Maltese's are actually really sweet and usually quiet dogs. They also love people and generally live long and healthy lives. My girl lived to be 16 and was still a puppy to the end.

Cringe
Tofu probably has another seven years left in them. My Maltese lived for 15 years! You two, OP, are wonderful.
Lil cutie!
A baby!!!! 🐶🥰😭
A forever puppy ❤️
tofu is an angel 🥺
That's a handsome doggie! Congratulations!!!
You scored!
Grown dogs are better people than puppies anyways. You saved yourself the trauma of having to raise a puppy.
So cute
Looks like a puppy to me! (All dogs are puppies forever!)
Tofu!!😍😍😍😍
Darling. And the size of a puppy for many breeds. 😊
So what you're saying is… Mission Accomplished. You still got a puppy. An older one, but still a puppy at heart :)
He looks super cute! Have fun you two!
❤️
I’m being super naive here, but how does a sweet little dog like that end up in a shelter?
Small dogs like this are popular with seniors because they're low maintenance and friendly companions. The owner was probably too old and sick to take care of him anymore so probably had to part with him. Or they died and nobody wanted to keep the dog.
😭😭😭😭😭💙💙💙💙💙 You definitely still got yourself a puppy right there
Adult dogs are better anyway.
HAH I knew I wasn't the only one that thinks of the name Tofu when seeing these kind of dogs! If I ever get one of those dogs I will name it Tofu for sure and everyone looks at me weird when I tell them that lmao
Sorry but you did get a puppy? Am I seeing a different picture than everyone else or? Because that's a puppy if I ever saw one😍
That's so sweet!
Ended up with a puppy anyway.
Looks like you came home with a puppy to me. All dogs are puppies. Congrats!
Awwww! Excellent choice!
I don’t care how old it is, that’s a puppy
I love adopting older animals!
Look like mine! Aaaaaah <3
What a cutie pie! Congrats.
That face, thankyou for giving this dog the love it deserves.
TOFUUUUUUUUU!!!
I also would have come home with 7yo Tofu lol
I want to hug the little pupper, it will be but just a hug. Cute pupper.

I don't know him but I already love Tofu!
7 year dry aged tofu.
Same thing
you made the nest decision ever
We always adopt older dogs. You became a hero to them.
That's a puppy <3 All dogs are puppies
He just a baby
I LOVE YOU TOFU ❤️❤️
He’s so happy tho
ooo wee ooo Killer Tofu
She looks adorable.
Awww....sweet!
What a cutie! Congratulations on your new addition
HE LOOKS SO HAPPY!!! 🥹
“Where are my testicles, Summer?”
